I bought my O2-XDA in the netherlands about 18 months ago. It's quite an early version and was looking into upgrading the ROM's.
However, I hear that one has to be extra careful in selecting the correct ROM pak for the phone and identifying "my phone" seems to be a problem.
Indeed, when registering for this forum, I was asked for my ROM versions, but neither of mine are in the list
My Versions are as follows:
ROM 3.02.00 ENG
date 05/27/02
Radio 4.01
Prot 324e2
I've experienced the usual crashes and leaking resources, but I suppose it's not been a bad phone, but I'm tempted to have a go at upgrading.
What are your thoughts on my ROM types ??
Thanks
Marcus
For the Radio part, as long as it's working do NOT touch it!!
For the ROM, you can upgrade to any WM2003 ROM, but read through this forum to get some learned lessons before trying.
Good luck
Sounds good. I remain nervous about upgrading though and will initially endeavour to backup my current ROM to SD.
As mine is a fairly early incarnation i guess the number of improvements is going to be vast, but what are the more significant points that have been successfully developed over the evolution ?
check this http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/products/pocketpcphone/about/2003/default.mspx
Nothing wierd!
There's nothing wrong with that ROM - it's the original version from Xda launch!

Thanks for your help.
As I said, I know it's an early one but it wasn't in the list and I didn't want to risk an update until I was sure it was ok to do so.
I whacked on the XDA Developers ROM and it took it alright. I guess that a move forward but I've yet to really see anything which is different.
Hi proz, i'm a total nub with upgrading and stuff, so I'd like to ask you for some help choosing the right ROM.
I've got a ARTEMENIS with ROM 1.14.404.1 NLD. Which ROM would be good for me to update to WM6? How's the vanilla ROM like, the TOUCH ROM like and what others can I choose from? Are they all WM6 or do I have to update to WM6 first and how do I do that? I've installed USPL on it already, at least I think have. What are the pro's and con's for every ROM? What data will I lose and most important, what should I do if I want to flash the ROM?
Thanks in advance!!

I recommend you to read this forum on how to upgrade ROM on Artemis before trying it yourself.
Cause if you are not prof on this you might end up with your mobile damaged.
I know, I tried, but I dun understand

Try getting hold of the WM6 ROM from whoever your phone is branded as, eg if it's a Dopod, get the Dopod ROM, if it's O2 get the O2 rom, if it's T-Mobile, get a T-Mobile ROM - that way, you don't have to worry about the USPL first time round, or at least if you make a mess, you have something to revert back to easily.
All the USPL does is 'temporarily' unlock your device, so download the uspl and run that - if it works without problems, the ROM update works exactly the same way, just takes about 10 mins longer. If you run a ROM update, you lose ALL settings - it's like reinstalling windows on a PC - so if you haven't got your contacts synced up you'll lose them, and all applications yuo have insatlled, and any files stred in the ROM. Everything on your SD card will be OK, but you'll have to reinstall the applications.
Go to the WM6 forum and read the stickies at the top.

In my experience Tomal ROM´s are the best I´ve tried on wm6, but let´s wait the masters Beasty & Laurentius, they are just about to launch one!
it is true, Tomal's ROMs are very good. I used Ranju 7.7 (this was also Tomal's?) and was very fast and stable. Now I use Tomal's 8.2 Regular and is also very fast. I have about 25-26 free RAM after boot, but my display is full of gadgets
You can try it, but WM 5.0 - I think - is (almost) the best.
best! 12nala34
Guys i been facing this constant WAKE UP Problem....My device wont wake up once i receive an sms in Standy mode...the only way i can restore the device is my SOFT RESET.
I am soft reset my phone twice or thrice daily...im getting Sick of this problem.
I also tried installing WM6.1 and same problem appears again, so i switched back to WM5 the original ROM.
What exactly is causing the problem ? i am starting to dislike my phone now.
Please suggest me whats wrong here ? is it my battery or my ROM or Myself ?
The best ROM is subjective..
The only way to find out is to flash several ROMs to your device untill you are satisfied (or adicted to flashing your device ).
Hi there!
I'm thinking about upgrading my Touch Cruise to WM6.1 and if someone has some time to help me out I'll be pleased.
- Where can I find the ROM to do so?
- Can be it downgraded to WM6.0 back?
- Have anyone experienced problems with Cruise and WM6.1?
Thank you very very much!!
Hi charlietron,
Upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1? - Oh YES !
Where? - HERE, Where Else ?Any problem? - No Problems ...
Only problem is You have to help yourself and SEARCH for a start. Happy Hunting.
hehe
No problems, then? Does the HTC Today screen exist in WM6.1? And what about downgrading to WM6 again?
Well, Start Here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381600
OK, I'll try... Do you know if it is possible make a backup of the current ROM? Just for security...
you shouldn t try it as a newbie..
if you want your original rom 6.0 back, you should search for a rom for your device (provider, version etc.).
if you want to backup your pim-data you can use pim-backup 2.8.
if you want to upgrade to an official rom you dont get any problems. otherwise read next
if you re not sure what to do, don t do it. read the links above and the polaris-wiki. stay here a while and listen to the actual roms to know bit more about bugs and speed etc.
when you have bit experiences here, you could upgrade (but think about the explained steps).
greets
voxid
Thanks for the advise, voxid
I think I'm gonna stay with WM6 until I see more clear my way...
OK, thanks to everyone here I finally flashed my HD2 and I liked it a lot. I tried the Energy Rom and Core Cell Rom and they both worked great and have there advantages. But I have a new question now. I want to change my phone back to stock, which stock rom should I download? And is the installlation process the same as flashing the phone with a custom rom?
hmmm...
im assumin you have a tmous HD2. if so you can find the original tmobile rom on their website. just search for hd2 software update on the search portion. same as here, you can find it. just gotta look and not ask a question when you can find it yourself. also i think this question doesnt belong under this thread mayb under HD2 general..
http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm54430.xml thats helpful... use it to flash back..
ok, thanks for the help. but i have a question and something else as well. I clicked on the link and read over everything it says:
NOTE: The software update is only designed to update the ROM version from 2.10.531.1 and 2.13.531.1 to 3.14.531.1. If at any point the software was changed from 2.10.531.1 or 2.13.531.1 by flashing to unsupported software, sometimes called rooting or hacking, then we strongly recommend you do not perform this update, as it was not designed to update unsupported software.
It seems like their saying don't use this update if I flashed another rom besides the stock rom which it came with. So exactly what do I do from here? Not trying to sound slow or anything, but I want to becareful with these things. And besides I don't have a spare phone to use and would hate to brick this one up. Any help is appreciated.
I got my TMOUS HD2 yesterday and to go around customs, I asked if the seller could flash there nonbootable ROM, which I made (HTC Oboe XIP and no IMGFS to be sure it wouldn't boot ). When it arrived, I just flashed the 3.14 ROM without single errors and keeping HSPL2.
Do it, there won't be problems .
this thread came in time. today i got a message from tmobile indicating that there is a new update available. i wanna give it a shot and if i don't like it then I'm going to upgrade to the cell core v3 since i've been using v2 for a while
