Does anyone know if there's a way to change the "Power" options on the Cingular 8525? Out of the box it only gives you the ability to choose between 1-5 minutes before the gizmo will automatically turn off (the only other option is to no have it turn off at all). Are there any ways to change that to like 10 or 15 minutes?

I remember that there was a registry entry holding that value so you would have to search forum to find it. Once you edit, do not enter power options because this will overwrite your changes.

these are just a few hints and tips please feel free to add more
xda2 gprs switch off
this is a little known feature, but one which is very very useful. if your xda2 for some reason connects to a gprs connection you can easily turn it off again by pressing the red button (phone down key) for 2~3 seconds. avoiding the problem of having to switch off and switch on the wireless connection.
###############################################
xda2 speaker phone
when in a call, you can activate the xda2 speaker phone by pressing the green button (pick up phone) for 2~3 seconds.
###############################################
xda2 camera
when using the camera you can press the top left button on the handset (contacts button) to change the orientation of the icons on the screen.
###############################################
screen brightness
the screen is a very bright one, squeeze more life out of the battery by turning it down. go to start - settings - system - power : click on the word back light at the bottom and adjust to about half way for when running off the battery. half way is a very usable brightness, you can go lower if you don't mind it being slightly dim.
###############################################
accidental pressing of buttons
by default pressing any button on the xda2 will switch the machine on. you can stop all buttons activating the xda2 (bar the power switch) by going to start - settings - button lock : select lock all buttons except power button.
###############################################
sending a video clip via mms
to send a video clip via mms you have to change the format to which it is saved. go to start - programs - camera (or just start the camera). click on the screwdriver and wrench icon. click tools - options : click the video tab. in the capture format drop down box highlight H.263 - this is the standard 3gp mobile video phone format.
###############################################
adding your own sound to a xda2 action
you can add your own sounds to xda2 notifications, like receiving an sms, by simply creating the sound you want as a wav file. you can do this on your main computer (sound recorder in "start - programs - accessories - entertainment - sound recorder" is a simple piece of software to do this). then pass the file onto the xda2 using activesync / email / etc... you must copy the file into the "my device - windows" folder using file explorer. next go to settings, choose "sounds & notifications". click on the notifications tab, choose the event you want to assign the sound to e.g. "inbox: new sms message". make sure play sound is selected with a tick - now choose the sound that you have just copied into the "my device - windows" folder from the drop down box.
Nice one..
One or two i didnt know...
Thanx...
ignoring incoming calls
A helpful one:
When u receive a call that u don't wanna answer, instead of rejecting it by pressing "ignore or the red phone button, u can push the volume button up or down putting the ringer off. The caller won't get the busy signal and won't know u deliberately rejected his call.
When Phone application is active, pressing the 5-way navigation key
Up: goto call history
Down: goto speed dials
When sound is turned off (ie X) then pushing volume slider up once will take it to vibrate mode, and pushing again takes u back to normal sound levels.
Doesn't seem to be a way of doing the reverse though?
battery saving
install software that you use often on your XDA storage and NOT on an extra SD storage card. This saves much battery (less card-IO).
Abroad meeting/appointment alerts
If you travel a lot for meetings in different time zones, don't creat the calendar entry in your current time zone, instead, change the time zone to the destination, creat the calendar item then get back to your time zone. Otherwise the reminder will not set off properly.
1. pressing and holding the power button for 2-3 sec toggles the backlight on/off
2. Hold the Action Button and tap on the clock at the right hand corner of the screen; It will pop up a menu with the Run Option. Then you can use the run as your command prompt.
3. how to:

Hi, I could not find how to decrease or stop the volume of reminders' notification. I find it so irritating when it rings increasingly, and so difficult to stop as I must first open the screen before being able to press the screen and stop it.
Cool... Nice one dude!
say like after 5 minutes of inactivity?
Just dont want my new phone to start dialling people when the phone is in my pocket, like my old e200 did all the time.
TIA

Start - Settings - On the Personal tab click "Today" - Go to the "Items" tab and put a check mark on "Device Lock" I don't know if it auto-locks at a certain amount of time, as I rather use the "Lock all buttons except Power Button" setting in "Buttons" . If you wanted to lock automatically your gonna have to punch in your password from the "Lock" setting everytime you bring it out of stand by..... annoying.
For the life of me I can't find the device lock in settings, you know the one that gives you the option to lock all buttons except power button on device lock.
I would like to be able to turn the machine on by pressing something other than the power button but it seems it cannot be done.
Am I missing something?

I have managed to use the HTC lock but don't know how i did it. I do think that a good lock would be a plus for this phone.

What do you mean by 'HTC lock'? Where did you find this on the HD? I'm looking for the setting where you specify whether you want to lock all buttons or not?
In Settings > Buttons, go to the End Key tab and select the action you want when holding the End key. You can mae it pop up a menu if you want...
One of the options is Lock device.

hmm, yes, i found this but that is to lock the device using the long press end key.
What I am looking for is the setting where (at least on the diamond) you specify that the device locks all the buttons a) all the time b) none of the time or c) only when device is locked. i'm sure it was called button lock or similar.
That´s my problem, too. I would like to power on my HTC by using the volume buttons because the "power on" button is so small. Too small for my fingers
This = power on the HTC by using the volume button = is a possible option on the HTC Kaiser und Diamond.
Another question: Does a registry key for the button lock exist?
Thanks in advance
I want my phone to lock everytime I switch it off, so far the only way I can do it is by setting up a password. Anyway I can do it skipping that step?
Thanks

us this. wat im using locks when screen goes off.
Get keyboard config remapping tool, then do the following
1. Add key (press the power button on top of the device)
2. Click the + icon next to Actions, and pick Run Program from the drop down menu (browse to Devicelock.exe located in windows folder, or so it seems)
3. then add an additional Action, this time pick Action Type > Power Management > Power Toggle or Suspend Device from the drop down menu
okay everything is done and voila, your device now locks and turns it's screen off every time you press the power button on the top, and when you press the power button again it welcomes you with the slide to unlock screen.
I have attached all the necessary cab files below, the shortcutsandicons cab simply makes shortcut for you to the devicelock.exe in the start menu.
search for smartlock
The first link worked perfect! THANKS!
every suggestion so far locks the screen, but then I have to enter my password to unlock, it is only supposed to ask every 30 minutes, on my old 8525 i could lock the screen and then press a softkey and then a location on the touchscreen to unlock, is there anything similiar for the tilt2, or someway to configure any of the suggestions in this thread for that functionallity?
thanks
i use s2u2 works awesome no password needed ( but optional 4 the nosies lol)

not my Samsung i200; it doesn't vibrate when outgoing calls are picked up
it doesn't have a key to lock device; need to wait 5 seconds for it to auto lock or press the power button and select lock
Why don't you just simply use S2U2?
didn't know about this software. samsung i200 is a smartphone, doesn't have touchscreen.
I'm afraid it can't be use....

the first can be done via the registry. I'm not sure where its located on your Samsung i200. try poking around in the HKLM files of your registry and see if you can find a string called "Connecting Vibration" and change it from 0 to 1. on my htc pro2 its located in HKLM\Software\HTC\PHONE\PhoneExtendSetting
the second can be found in your phone's settings. start, settings, in the "personal" tab you'll find "buttons" settings. you should be able to change the "Long Press End Key" function to lock device.
Didn't have the phone under HKLM\Software\Samsung
and the second one, didn't have personal tab or button settings,.......
