Hi,
I am currently looking into purchasing 750 XDAIIi Devices from o2. (after o2 release the new firmware version hopefully next week to solve the battery problem and release the blackberry client)
However, I will need to configure each device with a set of custom in house applications, and set it up in a certain way.
The easiest way i can think to do this is to get 1 device how i want all of them, then to take a copy of the rom, and to copy that rom to all the other devices.
What utilitys are available to do this? Ive so far found tools to copy the rom from the device, however im stumpted on how to re-flash the rom with the copied version.
any help/sugestions etc greatly welcome!
Thanks in advance,
Noodle.

What you need is SPB Clone great little app but expensive for my uses with you buying so many I guess it would prove affordable
http://microsoft.handango.com/Platf...ype=2&productId=150895§ionId=0&catalog=1&
More info at the link above or
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/clone/?en
Ah great info there, thanks.
However it says its compatible with the XDA, XDAII and XDAIIs, not the XDAIIi.
Its exactly what im looking for though

I'm sure you will find it does the XDA IIi drop SPB a mail and I guess they will confirm that!
The demo works on the XDAIIi so i think its time to spend some mulleh
This could save me a long long time

Thats good news please tell us all how you found the app a nice little review would be good!
Sure.
I think firstly i will explain the situation i have, then it might make things clearer.
I could possibly have 750 XDAIIi devices, and 750 Bluetooth printers within the next 2-3 months.
This is to be used for a mobile, in house application. I am currently looking for a quick, and easy method to setup all of the devices.
I currently have a mangement solution, using Mobi Control. Its a VERY VERY good piece of software, and the new version is out next week which will offer some SERIOUSLY good features such as device lock down etc.
The issue i have is that the XDAIIi will require a certain config before I install the Mobi Control Client. (certain bluetooth settings and application settings)
So, for my base device, i have installed the Mobi Control client (removed from cradle before it is named by the mobi control server) , and also setup the relavent bluetooth settings etc. I have also tweeked some device settings to help out the battery life, and also changed things like the mappings of the buttons.
Then i used the SPB clone tool. I installed it onto the device and ran it. The wizard is easy, it has about 3 steps. The first step is to choose where you would like to save to. I chose the SD card, however you can also use ro storage.
Then, you can choose to password encrypt your device, and also choose if you want to copy the storage area of the device. Then, is builds your image.
The image takes about 5 mins to build to the SD card. and its done.
Now all you need to do is to drop the SD card into another device, it auto runs the wizard and will build the device EXACTLY the same as the master device. It will prompt you for the current time, as the time of the master device is also in the image.
This is a great solution for me, because all i need to do with each new device, is drop it into a cradle for 2 mins at most. The mobi control server auto names the device with my naming scheme, and then installs and configures our in house applications.
So intsead of it looking likes it going to take me about a month to build all the devices, i might be able to do them in a few days.
Thanks for the recoendation of that application
You probebly know this, and before people start to flame I dont want to search through the archives to see if it is there.
Im new to the XDA world, just had my phone for 3 weeks and learning new things about it all the time. Its a really great phone and helps with my business needs. I loved it that much I got my wife the T-mobile MDA compact (as its girly) and she loves it.
Anyway back to the question in hand, how can you remove that annoying and buggy O2 dock off the top of your XDA handset.
Backup your docs/contacts/calendar
Do a hard reset (hold power and reset at the same time)
When it start to install the basic programs it should come up with 2 options, normal or corporate. If you select 'corporate' and then type in the code 0506 it will install a fresh version of software without 02's buggy applications.
I did this last night and its much better, the only problems is that the gprs will need to be added manually which I done in no time. If you call o2 they can send a text with the settings to automatically do it for you.
you dont really have to remove it but if you use a file explorer like Resco browse to ' my device\windows\startup 'and either move or delete the 'Active.exe' then do a soft reset and Bob is your proverbial uncle..
Just to add, if you can't get through to O2 then the somewhat longer and more complicated way is to enter the settings as set out here:
http://www.tekguru.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4331
& somewhere in the Networking/settings area of this forum is a list of CAB files that hold all the settings for all the UK service providers - d/load, copy across & run - easy-peasy
Hi, this is my first post on this forum, so feel free to delete it if I obey any rules, which I believe I don't.
I'm absolutely new to the PDA thing, I never had one, I never held one, and according to that, I never used one.
I think about buying one, but I still have too many unasked questions no one yet answered.
I definately don't want to use Windows on this one. So if there is a, let's say, chance higher than 50% that I won't be able to get Linux working on it, I simply won't buy it.
What I searched for and what I still need is an elaborated progress report, of how stable, fast and reasonable a HTC Universal can be used along with Linux. I'm so newbie that I don't even know if it will be able to do phone calls with Linux installed...
My provider is T-Mobile germany, and I could get one (called "MDA Pro" or "MDA IV") for 133€ (about 1:1 dollar, correct me if I am wrong)
I would get the "MDA Vario" for about 1€, but I cannot figure out the real model name, here is a picture:
http://www.audioelektronik.com/images/MDAVario.jpg
But back to my question: Who can offer a progress report? It would be perfect if the author would be at the same provider as me, but it's not really important. I also accept any provider proposals, as well as PDA proposals. I just thought of the Universal because I like the feature list and keyboard, but it won't be a problem to use a touchscreen exclusively.
So how usable is the HTC Universal with Linux? What can I do and what can't I?
You don't have to answer me myself if my questions are, at least partially, covered by a website. If you have any beginner information about installing, using and developing Linux on and for PDAs, I would love to see them.
If anyone prefers to contact me via ICQ, he is welcome to, I listed my number.
My jabber ID is: [email protected]
Hi,
we are doing our best to get Linux working on MDA Pro

You can watch the detailed progress or help in this Thread

Hm, I would like to get in touch with development, but I cannot find a detailed introduction focused at newcommers in the development forum.
I never used assembler on a PPC, and though I wanted, I never wrote a Linux kernel module.
This is off-topic in this forum, but do you have a link?
Also great would be an universal emulator to try out ROMs and work on them a little. Is anything available/in progress/planned?

First of all, you should go around the corner, find the next T-Mobile shop and by your MDA Pro device :`)
After that, you can follow the instructions installing Linux on a SD Card from the wiki page. The first link, i gave you.
After that, you can ask more questions in the "Linux on Universal" Thread :`)
Maybe if you are familar with Linux, you can help building a rootfs image.

You don't need to. The main problems are in the hardware
area, wince driver operation, nice wince GUI installer,
nice windows GUI installer, fixing bugs in Qt programs.

We are testing everything on the real hardware.
Creating a device "emulator" is even more complicated
than fully porting Linux.
Okay, I think I'll really buy one.
I added you to ICQ EyeOfTheStorm, since I have some more questions and really don't want to flood the forum. Just greet me if you online, and if it doesn't bother
<edit>
Programming GUI programs is indeed my task at work atm, I think I could be of help in that part. I mainly use C and C++ and python. But I'll first need to buy my PDA, so...

Ups, my ICQ is depricated. Will never go online. So, if you have aditional Questions, ask in the Linux on Universal Forum.
Is there an IRC channel?
(this thread is so much of a chat ;D)
So, I'm only one step away from buying my device.
Now I only have some last questions I need answered before I buy it:
The root filesystem HAS to be on SD/MMC Cards <= 1024MB.
How do you guys exchange music etc.? Can I really not install the root filesystem on the internal memory of that device? Would 128 MB be enough?
I'm warned that my device could be damaged. If so, would the providers warranty apply? Or does it expire if I change the operating system?
The mini-howto tells me to do a backup, but I cannot find an explanation of how to do this.
I think it should just be a dd of the device when mounted on my workstation, but I prefer to have an explanation anyway.
Would I be able to reinstall this windows CE whatever thing whenever I want if I do a backup?

As far as I know, we still have the 1GB SD Card limit. Yes, you have to install the rootfs on the SD Card. 128 MB are enough for hosting the basic rootfs image.
Well, I just bought this device. I will get it on the 20. of juni. (It's my birthday, and this is no coincidence ;D)
There is only one thing left of this list I really need to know:
Can I reinstall this windows CE thing?
I will perhaps hit a situation were I need something fully functionaning ASAP, so I'd love to know.
But I allready bought it, this is just important for my decision to install Linux on it. If I can somehow backup or reinstall this windows CE thing, I'll definately follow the guide and help development as good as possible for me.
I got my device, followed the guide, installed opie and gpe on it (first tried opie, didn't like the look and then switched to gpe. Found out that GPE cannot manage the universals monitor-spin and switched back to opie.) and now I have got everything up and running.
Couldn't find anything non-working yet too, though I still need to figure out how to make (at least the keyboard layout) german.
Now I also know that Opie/GPE can coexist with WinCE without problems, which makes me very happy.
But there is one thing that still bothers me:
I cannot go online via GPRS or make/accept phone calls when Linux is booted.
Is this possible at all? Neither Opie nor GPE do seem to have any software for doing a phone call.
Is there a guide on how to set up telephony and GPRS internet?
<edit>
Found some funky new resources:
http://handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/Universal
Is the page I have been searching for a while and
#htc-linux (@freenode)
is the channel I have been searching for a while.
The guys just told me that it is not (yet) possible to do phone calls, but they are working on it. I will try to compile and make the winCE installer working now.

Hi All,
I have been making use of this forum for over 1 year, learned a lot, and taken a lot out of it, and have even done some cooking myself (its been fun).
Thought I would give a little something back.
See my post under Networking here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543999
Apparently the newer Connection Setup 2.7 works on the Wizard. There is an OEM Pack there for whoever needs it for their own cooking.
Also, I found somewhere else on another forum (which I have not been able to relocate) a version of the provision.zip file where someone has taken the newest ConnSetup version of it (DB15.0114), taken all the operator settings and put into a format that works with the older Network Wizard (read my other post). You can just copy to Windows directory on your device. It is quite large, but you can modify it to contain just the ones you want to keep and strip the rest out to make it smaller. I have tested and it works (both Rogers Canada, and Germany E-Plus).
Have fun
Hi all! I own an pretty old pocket pc, an HP iPAQ 216, and i'm trying to do something useful with this device.
I've read over some threads and Brighthand forums, but every available file is missing thanks to the Rapidshare site being down.
I'll appreciate if anyone have a mirror to any kitchen which works with this particular device, because i've tried using anothers but they simply didn't work.
I know this is a pretty difficult request, but I would be amazed if someone can share those files with me.
I still think that this device has some pottential to work with.
Hello.
I know this is a late response, but maybe someone else will need it. I have rarely visited the XDA Developers forum lately. I did upload files that a colleague asked. The LunaticFiles account will be active for 40 days. Contents of the upload:

Good luck.
Hey I have an ipaq 214, the stock wm6 rom sucks and so does wm6.5, the wm6.1 is in general the very best windows mobile ever made, I have always wanted that, I hope it's in the rar. The file host you used is like the worst ever, they wouldn't even let me download without paying because I'm not in Poland, but I got around that by using a VPN extension and changing to a polish IP and now I'm downloading at amazing polish internet speed of 300kb/s (which is very bad today even for a free file host). Still thanks for sharing the file, it just finished and it does have wm6.1 folder. Maybe this will finally make my ipaq useful, if not then it's just poorly written drivers by hp and I will just stick with the hx4700 which feels more premium, if it only had a dpad...
Hi, i just buy a old HP ipaq214, possible to have a valid link for the ROM ?
Thanks for help.
I still need this lol
