Phone hangs - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Howdy
I use the exec as my phone and have a bit of an issue. I have found that the phone hangs and I don't get calls (go straight to VM ) no rings etc.
when I try to dial out it says service not available
I reset the device ad all is fine.
the only thing I can think on is Magic Button
I have uninstalled it for now to be sure.
is there a better phone to use then the one with the Exec?
I am looking for any assistance with this.
I have all my apps installed on the 1g SD card
including Ewallet, Pocket PC Bible,
I had magic button installed but since have gotten rid of it.
any other info I can provide to help in diagnosis just ask

That's strange because the O2 standard ROM (AKU 2) is usually quite stable and quick. I wonder if the problem may lie in running your apps from SD card (which tends to be slower than the internal memory unless the card is fastand reliable) - maybe this is slowing the phone down and causing it to miss calls.
A number of suggestions - try first uninstalling all your apps and reinstalling them one by one testing the phone as you go. That may show the culprit app. If that doesn't work, try reflashing the ROM (using the software on the O2 xda website). If that doesn't work, try upgrading the radio to 1.14.1. I find this very stable on O2. If that doesn't work, try upgrading the CE ROM (you might like to start with one of the AKU 3.3 or 3.5 ROMs). If that doesn't work, you may be looking at a hardware fault.
If you need to know how to upgrade a ROM - read the wiki (several times if you've not done it before!)

Will try

Will try your suggestions for sure.
Thanks very much for the help...

Upgrading to 4.00.16 for T-Mobile

I'm sick of waiting for an answer from T-Mobile on when WM2003 will be available for the PPCPhone Edition, if at all, so I decided to create an executable of 4.00.16 at Jeff's kitchen.
I'm a little freaky about installing it. So before I do I would like to know (1) problems encountered from those that have done the upgrade and (2) the exact instructions on how to return back to my original T-Mobile OS ROM.
I know there are many of you out there that feel the same anguish regarding T-Mobile's lack of information regarding WM2003 & the hopes of better software that improves the PPC's ability to connect via GPRS (it sucks now) and overall performance. After all, we spent a load of money on this sucker.
Thank you in advance to all the gurus out there who answer this for the rest of us
If you install the XDAtools, you can create a backup of your ROM through ActiveSync. If at any time you click on the backup file, you will be offered the option of burning it back into your device.
However: since your new ROM is 4.00.16, you need to know there is a problem: you cannot use the normal upgrade program called "Programme A" to move away from 4.00.16. But you can use the option in the XDAtools to write your old old OS to an SD card using the XDA (all files on the SD-card will be erased in the process). Then you can boot the device in bootloader mode and press the center of the rocker switch to load your old OS.
My guess is you'll be almost perfectly happy with 4.00.16 though (at least happier than with any 3.x ROM) . Just be aware of the one remaining problem: occasional SD-card erasures have been reported by some people (they do not seem to affect everyone), so do not store valuable data on SD without backup.
I upgraded to 4.00.16 yesterday and still can't get GPRS to work. Sometimes it says it connects but I can't get to anything and other times it gives me an error trying to connect. I've been trying everything I can think of for GPRS settings. I'm on T-Mobile in Atlanta with Radio version 6.18.00. I'm not sure if you will have the same problem or not.
I had trouble connecting through GPRS too at one point where I thought it was ROM 4.00.16. But I finally did connect.
One of the major reasons for upgrading was an expected improvement in GPRS performance. If anything, it got worse. Do I have to upgrade the radio rom too for improvement in GPRS?
rfeagin:
I had similar problems following the upgrade, and as an afterthought I went to my local TMo store and exchanged my SIM chip. Mine was three years old, and the new SIM fixed the problem. Also, if you upgrade the radio stack to 6.24 or the AT&T stack, you will gain persistent GPRS connectivity.
David
SO the TMo store will swap sim cards with me if I go in and tell them I want a new one? Also... where can I find the radio stack 6.24 stack or the AT&T?
Thanks for your help. I really would like to get this working again.
I've heard that its very difficult if at all possible to downgrade the Radio ROM back to its normal state. This is why I have not done it yet.
I posted instructions in the following thread for locating and installing the 6.24 radio stack: http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=2452&highlight=. If you would like the AT&T files (I prefer the TMo files), send me a PM and I will help you get them.
Downgrading radio stacks is difficult, and maybe impossible in some cases, but as long as you have the four files listed in the referenced thread, it seems to work well.
David
I backed up my original ROM on an SD Card so I could revert back to it from 4.00.16. I tired to revert back today but for some reason the image is not on the SD card. Now what?
How can I get my old T-Mobile ROM back? Any ideas?
If you have a Card Reader, you can use XDATools to burn a rom image onto it, then use that image to reload your XDA via the SDCard method...
I just bought a SDCard reader from WalMart, for 19 bucks, it is a Lexar JumpDrive Trio, and it can read SD cards, XD CArds, and Sony Memorystick, and it is USB 2.0..
It is nice, albeit a bit flimsy..
But it works.

I'm not sure about if the executable will work or not but if does fail you can always use the bootloader method!

Qtek freeze

On Monday 18.05, I have upgraded to qtek v. 1.66. Since then, these last 2 days, around 8 pm, the BT light start flashing and the qtek does not work any more. Making a soft reset just stop the green light. The only solution I found is a hard reset. Installed programs: SPB 2.0, wimram, ezwap, vito button mapper. Perhaps is one of these program not compatible. I will now wait until tonight 8 pm, withour reinstalling any programs and see if i need to downgrade to older version.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance
Dtipex
i have that issues once in awhile
is use spd but not version 2
my qtek 2020 came with 1.66
this mean i use backup and restore often
suppose i could try to leave it default
and see if it's a program doing the stuff
are u using a SD512 card? if yes try to remove it and see if the forced hard.reset is still needed.
i use a 128MB and a few times removing it helped but in general it dont help
nor does removing the batt or sim
or trying to charge it which it cant when it's frozen
suppose it could be a hardware issue but odd that a hardreset always solve it then
I am getting same problem, but with me , it can happen without warning, i cannot switch on, no response to any soft reset attempt, only solution is to do a forced hard reset. Happened now 5 times in 1 month, (new i-mate v.1.66) programs installed, sprite backup v3. PI v5, spb plus v2, hudsonmobile phone dashboard, spb gprs monitor, resco file explorer, fitaly, phatpad, phat notes and scary bear check notifiaction (usually no more than 11 listed). It is a nuisance, but i no have confidence in hard reset and restore with sprite backup working well, i now keep regular backups. I am very interested to know if there any any potential conflics etc. I have seen in some of the threads oin this forum that soft reset 5 times at the start of hard reset, when the red tect appears bottom right, can work, I will try next time.
For me it's under multie last version.
Sometimes it's freeze 10s.
Before I do hard reset but now I wait and its works.
wonder if it could have anything to do with the strange max process limit bug
or if people who dont install any software themselfs also get it after X time
Exactly the same problem:
Sometime the blue light goes on, don't know if that is the same problem.
But hangs with a black screen, no backlight, no button response and no light after a bat change or softreset.....
Operator version: 3.66.3.171
ROM version: 1.66.00WWE

Protocol version: 1337.18
ExtROM version 1.66.171
SD256 Toshiba-card
Software:
TomTom 3, Spb plus 2.0, Calendar+
I thought the problem was the the option in the today screen; "Display Today screen if device is not used for xxx hours. I set the option off, but i not really tested it.
After much research reading different posts and threads, it seems many of us using ROM version 1.66.00we are getting the same problem. It seems it is something to do with the radio. Owners of earlier versions are not posting these concerns. apparently v1.66 can not be downgraded to the more stable 1.52. According to some posts, a new version 1.72 will be released shortly, which hopefully will solve problem. Check the posts on this site regarding the 1.72 beta release. I am getting fed up with these issues, imate costs a small fortune and its reliablity is a dissappointment to what is otherwise a great device.
what radio does 1.5 and 1.7 use because my 1.66 have 1.10.00
it seems that i-mate devices which came originally with ROM 1.52 had the radio 1.06 and for those who have subsequently upgrade to 1.52 from an earlier ROM 1.03 they get the 1.10 radio stack.

HTC Alpine radio 1.04!!!

Here is rom with new Radio ROM 1.04

Thank for the new radio, but some how I got country erro on the processing upgrade.
Please Help.
is this for the xda 2i please ..only asking as i'm not sure
thanks
This rom is only for Alpine phones, thats the 2i, 2020i etc.
As soon as my broadband is working again (tomorrow hopefully) I'll post the O2 162 rom with the radio 1.04 update for the UK users and anyone else who wants it.
If you want to try this update on the 2i you will need to extract the files from the installer and locate a copy of maupgradeut_noid.exe and use that instead of the included installer. There are better instructions elsewhere on this site, just do a search for my name, I'll be in amongst it all somewhere.
cheers i'll give it a go but if you are doing it maybe i'll wait ,i've only just gone back to your old 1 tonight as i don't use blackberry & it seemed better than o2 update
I have just posted the ROM upgrade on the ftp site, the only change is the radio from 1.03 to 1.04. It seems to give a better signal strength than version 1.03 on my phone anyway.
Here's the link to download the O2 version I just combined
(Edited to working link
ftp://xda:[email protected] XDA_IIi_Upgrade_v1.11.162_Radio_1.04.rar
1: Backup your contacts/device to Storage, Storage Card or PC. If you are using Ext Rom 1.11.162 now you can use full device backup to restore at the end to save you re-installing all your programs later.
2: Extract the ROM using Winrar to a folder of your choice.
3: Run MaUpgradeUT_Noid.exe. The install will fail, don't worry, just run it again without touching the phone.
4: When the upgrade has finished, do a hard reset by pressing the power button and reset button at the same time.
5: Install any programs and any data you backed up during step 1.
Good luck.
Excellent stuff
Upgraded and now running 1.04 radio and i can also say it has improved my signal strength too
Big thanks Pug for your work on the ROM image too, very much appreciated.
Hear, Hear. Many thanks to Pug, great work!
many thanks to Pug,
its work perfectly.....no more lag of ringtones or lag after green button pushed!! thanks Pug.....
i want to know about backup, after upgrade ROM, i cant restore back by backup. When using Backup Sprite, i will go back to old ROM after restore complete. any ideas????
@ Clustered
When you say it goes back to the old rom do you mean that the Radio rom is regerted back to 1.03 or that your extended rom goes back to 192 or whichever you are using?
Sprite backup should not revert the radio rom back to 1.03 as it should only do the file system of your device.
As far as the extended ROM version, all it is there for is to indicate the "update" status of the extended ROM and what software is installed in it. An asian rom may have a higher rom version but may be no newer or better than the european 162 rom. You're talking about comparing hedgehogs to wibbles, completely arbitary. As soon as you cook the extended ROM like I have it is completely meaningless anyway as the version number is no longer valid.
If you wish to change the version number yourself, use a registry editor and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\3RDVERSION and change the MSYSTEM value to whatever you like.
If I have the wrong end of the stick, I apologise otherwise I hope this helps.
huh!? are u mad at me ??? anyway, i just wanna tell that you're the great! thanks very much....
I'm not mad at you, just woke up from a night shift....bloody binmen.
Was just trying to figure out which rom was reverting and so on. Hope it was of use to you anyway.
Once again, sorry.

PLEASE HELP ME
thanks for the update ..it's upgrading at the moment
thanks for the update, the only problem i'm having is that even though i've got the in call volume as low as it will go it is still too loud to be comfortable which is a big change from the previous rom. Also when using in the car on handsfree the other person can hear his voice echoing as they speak. Any ideas????
Successfully upgraded my XDAIIi.....
I'm now with the latest ROM from O2 UK (1.11.169 WWE) and the Radio version 1.04.00
Hi, I'm from Malaysia and will this rom be able to use on my device?
I'm using XDA IIi and device id is PH10C.
I'm affraid there will be a problem for my local operator "Maxis".
@ ramnkc
To be honest I can't see a problem with this ROM working with your current operator. I'm pretty sure that others from your neck of the woods are using the ROM with no problems. The biggest problem you would have is that it wouldn't load all your GPRS, WAP, MMS, etc settings as it is a UK rom.
Make sure you can get hold of these settings off your current provider before you perform the upgrade. Or as an alternative, extract your current ROM and reload it back onto your phone using SD card.
thanks for the reply !
Well i guess i gonna wait for the official release coz so far i'm happy with it. Apart of the constant SD Card data missing after playback mid, mp3 or what ever music files from SD Card.
And i finally found out that it cause by SBP pocketplus which had an option to close all application once you tab on X. Once i turn that option off in pocket plus so far problem free.
Guys/gals out there have this problem ?
ykyloveu - Does this mean you have BB Connect as well? The only modified rom from here I can download is based on cer .112 The new rom for o2 with BBConnect is ver .169

V1605 / WM6 / TomTom Nav 6 - possible?

Hi all,
Have searched the wiki and threads but can't get a definitive answer?
So my question is this....
I have a Vodafone V1605 that is running with its original ROM (which is generally cack but I do use TomTom 5.21 with a Holox receiver which actually works pretty well.
Now, I've just bought TomTom Navigator 6 (latest version and so latest build - can't be precise, but will d/load latest update when s/w arrives).
However, I'm also considering flashing my ROM for a WM6 build (or later WM5 build if that's a no-go).
There's nothing like making a challenge for yourself is there
So basically, is there anyone out there who's managed to:
a) Flash a v1605 successfully with a stable WM6 ROM (and if so, which ROM)
b) Then managed to get TomTom Navigator 6 running on it?
Thanks all - what a hugely useful forum this is!
Mate, as long as your phone is a Hermes, every wm 6 rom works brilliantly but wm6.1 is SPEEDY and some of the newer releases seem stable (its been getting better as the chefs get newer builds). You need to do some research to find the right rom for you as its a personal choice on what you like... DON'T make the mistake of asking what is best as you'll be inundated with answers why people think the rom they are using is best but it may not be the best solution for you...
As for Tomtom, It works brilliantly. Just upgraded to Tomtom 7. If you looked here 1st you would have found it on the site for download. It is offered on the Diamond and has been ripped and modified to work on the Hermes. You still need to purchase maps but it is a hell of a lot better than Tomtom 6.
My suggestion, look here first before spending cash, sometimes you find apps that are as good as or better than their commercial counterparts... There is a hell of a lot of apps out there that aren't available commercially too. Most apps seem to feature here first and then go commercial (a good example is touchflo). Thats not to say that the commercial programs aren't brilliant too and I believe the pittance we pay for them REALLy does help to make some awesome apps..
Cheers...
If you do upgrade your os, make sure you read and do this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Hard SPL is a MUST for anyone flashing roms... It won't guarantee a perfect flash but makes it SOOOO much easier if(and when) something goes wrong...
Also give this a read as you can unlock your phone to allow ANY sim card to be inserted and used - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
Welcome, and happy flashing....
Thanks mate - all sound advice
First thing I did was to install Hard SPL (2.10 Olipro) - better safe than sorry - but that's as far as I got.
I did try to install the latest (final) official Vodafone RUU 2.07.161.1, but it crapped out with Error 260. I decided to cut and run at that point as I was worried I'd bricked the device - but it's all ok now after a hard reset (yes, I'd backed up my data
I'd be using an err... eval version of TT5.21 and it's been great - so much so I decided to cough for a full legit copy (UK and W.Europe) of TT 6 Navigator.
I'll try it on the standard ROM (WM5) but well, you know how it is, I like to have stuff up to date, so it would be good to flash a WM6 ROM. Oh, this and the fact that Vodafone won't give me a phone upgrade until next October!
So I just wanted to hear from someone who'd done it successfully with a full-fat version of TT6 Navigator running on WM6. If it was running with a Holox BT receiver then even better!
S/ware (and 2Gb Micro SD card) here in a day or two - so will sit tight and see....
Thanks!
tt running
i have latest radio 1.54.30.10 Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Lite on my v1650 supercided
tt7 (orig.)) fine runing all m8
tomtom works perfectly on the hermes, v5/6 or even the tt7 version. I have it working on pdacorner pro wm6.1 v15 at the moment and it works fine.
So chill out on the worries and flash a wm6.1 rom if you get a 260 connection error try entering the bootloader manually yourself and try flashing it then, just tick the boxes saying you agree and you have an active sync connection(even though you dont). Also if you download one of the latest wm6.1 packages then the ruuwrapper file is an updated version which solves most of the silly errors that pop up when trying to flash e.g. error 260/300 etc

If connection issues are a worry however, now you have Hard SPL you can use the SD Card method. I personally haven't EVER had problems with this and I believe its safer as there are no concerns about usb cables being unplugged, reset button being pressed or powwer fluctuations/outages.
To do this,
1).first format an sd card fat32.
2).Copy the .nbh file in your upgrade directory to it and rename to Hermimg.nbh. 3).Put into hermes and go to bootloader screen ( hold powerbutton, OK button above flywheel and rset with stylus. Hold in until tricolour screen appears - This is called bootloader screen) It should automatically recognise the os flash information.
4). Follow prompts..
Easy as 1,2,3,4.
Cheers...

pre Install Query - Custom ROM

Hi,
before i take plunge to any customised ROM, i wanted to have backup of my pre-loaded ROM WM6 WWE.
since backup of ROM using aWizard/ itsutils is giving error in itsutils.dll, so i tried finding original ROM (ROM version: 3.7.707.1 WWE , ROM date: 6/21/07 , Radio version: 4.1.13.30 , ExtROM version: 3.6.707.101)
Two places i found the original ROM - from ArmetisWiki page http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Artemis_Upgrades
and another link from google http://bbs.hz-pda.com/thread-5146-1-1.html (this looks more correct though - Mods can update this link in the wiki page)
Question:
- if any issues during upgrade of custom rom or after upgrade, i can reload my original ROM (downloaded from above links) ?
- any suggestions of fast custom ROM taking into account the small memory of HTC3300 Armetis. Lots of cool applications included is ok as i can put them in my 4GB card
Thanks in advance...
Hi,
-You can return to original PDA conditions at any time, unless you brick it , if you have the correct original ROM.
-Most of the available ROMs for Artemis are here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Artemis_DumpedRoms. My advice is to choose an updated build as light as possible, no "cubes" and heavy graphics..if you like you can "animate" your device afterwards by installing SPB Mobile Shell for example. "Lots of cool applications" are not included in the ROM,some little freeware apps may be..but they would still reside in your pda (because it is a ROM) and not in your memory card.
I think you mixed up the radio version number with the protocol's, a such radio version doesn't exist, just to make things clear. By the way, usually radio ugrades are not included in ROM, they can be flashed separately: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Artemis_RadioUpgrades
And,of course, DO NOT FORGET TO UNLOCK your device first if you intend to flash a cooked ROM or radio (read and execute super-carefully the related threads) or you could get into serious trouble.
Good Luck!
Hi,
Thats what i wanted to know, does the 2nd link ( http://bbs.hz-pda.com/thread-5146-1-1.html ) seems to have the correct ROM which can bring back to life my ARTE100 (if bricked or stoned by chance)
Yeah u're right - Radio version got mixed with protocol (radio interference )
Radio version: 02.69.90 - i think i'll update the Radio though i hardly listen...
SPB Mobile shell i have already installed - its cool...
I couldn't understand - "freeware apps may be..but they would still reside in your pda (because it is a ROM) and not in your memory card." as i installed few games/ applications like Total Commander, they gave an option to install in storage card and i clicked that. i checked also if i remove memory card, the links of Total Commander or other games don't work.
though i understand that SPB Mobile shell takes up memory as it loads in memory on startup and stays alive...
thanks
cool.. just now i found upgraded Original ROM from another thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320419
downloaded and kept safe...
Ok, original ROM for your device (MUST be the one you had when you bought you Artemis)) taken from xda is a more secure choice.
The "radio" we are talking about is the GSM module, not the FM radio and its upgrade can greatly improve phone reception and battery consumption.
Maybe I was the first between us not to understand what you were meaning by "cool applications".I wanted to say that they are not included in a ROM, you have to install them separately, if you have them..or buy them .
Mobile Shell takes up RAM,of course, but our device can support it well, especially version 2.0..in my opinion it'more handy for Artemis but it's up to you to test which version you are more confortable with. Moblie Shell MUST be installed on phone memory, not memory card..other applications can be put in the memcard.
