Cingular 8525 GPS - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Does the 8525 have built in GPS? I think i was reading somewhere that it does....I just want to clarify...

Not that can be currently used with navigation software. You will need a separate gps receiver (bluetooth) to use the device for navigation. Do a search on this forum for "gps receiver" and you will find plenty of discussion about the topic.

Leadtek 9553 and NMEA Problems?

Guys,
Just got this GPS to go with my Xda Exec, it seems to work fine and is a lovely little unit, but only functions correctly when using with SirfIII compatible software? Any software that doesn't have Sirf support doesn't seem able to switch the GPS into its NMEA mode?!
Any PocketPC apps I download to use with it just hang as soon as I open the port to the GPS UNLESS they support Sirf.
Am I missing something here?
Get hold of the TT vs3 GPS driver, and use that to switch the GPS over to the NMEA mode
Ahhh thanks for reply, sounds good but where do I find that? Is that the GPS.cab file that comes with the install? If so thats already on there!?
I've tried Google but can't find any trace of anything similar?
Try pocketgps.co.uk go to the downloads section and it is on that page its vs2,06 that you need - Mike
Many thanks, just installed it and I now have a new application in my Programs.
Upon firing it up, I can select from a list of GPS devices and the port it uses. My Leadtek isn't listed BUT there are listings for Sirf AND for NMEA at different speeds.
To get my GPS working with these applications that support NMEA only which of the NMEA speeds should I select?
Does this new program act as a 'gateway' to the GPS, or some sort of soft configuration for the GPS driver? Should I uninstall the Tom Tom GPS Bluetooth software?
For anyone else, here's a direct link:

What do I need to run Tom Tom on my Vario?

I would like to use Tom Tom on my (standard) Vario II and I'm not sure what I need to run it.
Do I need to upgrade my handset to GPS? If so, how do I do this?
Cheers.
You need the TomTom software and the maps of course as well as a seperate GPS Receiver because the MDA Vario II doesn't have any integarated GPS function.
Most people go for Bluetooth GPS Receivers although there are some cases where you might want a Wired GPS Receiver, to attach to the outside of your car or something for example.
Check out PocketGPSWorld for some good reviews if you want and then just browse around and take your pick.
I use the Holux GPSlim 240 which is fantastic.

Can i use TomTom or Co-Pilot on Trion?

Hi.. Until recently i was using my Orbit, with TomTom installed, however i now have a Trion. Been looking at some treads and it appears i can use my TomTom software on my Trion, but how as it has no built in GPS. Would i need to buy an external GPS, if so from where?
Yes you can run TomTom on the Trion and yes you will need an external GPS. I use the TomTom one and you should be able to buy one from the TomTom web site.
Also...look at eBay, you'll find hundreds of receivers.
Yes as stated above you can use Tomtom and others on your Trion.
Small lecture
The forum search or the sticky post "Search XDA-Dev using Google" would have shown this information. In fact there's currently a thread on this page on Bluetooth GPS receivers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327559
There are numerous other threads and of course there's also the Hermes Accessories Forum that I'm certain has had the matter of GPS receivers come up several times.
Lecture over
Hope you get it working - my GPS with Tomtom works very well. There are also threads for those that may have had the odd problem with their set up.
Cheers

Sat Nav

Hello All,
Can this (O2 XDA TRION) be utilised as a sat nav with a Bluetooth GPS, and the software?
I have read the Wiki page and see about it being disable or something more technical, but it left me confused.
Many thanks.
Yes it can, just pair you bluetooth gps device to it and run your software, I use tomtom navigator 6 which works fine.

Yes that's right.
The references in the Wiki refer to attempts to get a chip in the Hermes enabled to run GPS internally without a bluetooth receiver. This failed for technical reasons but with a bluetooth device it's just fine.
