Recently I tried using my Bluetooth DUN from my PowerBook while on a trip. It was giving me weird problems and I gave up on it. Hard to diagnose errors without an internet connection.
So I got back from my trip, and tried to again, this time with my web browser by my side. After little success, I figured I'd re-pair my Wizard with my PowerBook.
After I re-paired, I noticed there was no DUN profile. I tried on my ThinkPad (which had been previously paired and set up with BT DUN as well) and found that it was missing there as well.
It's been a while since I've used the DUN profile, so I don't know what exactly made it disappear. I'm running the Qtek 9100 WWE ROM (2.17.7.2) but I think DUN was working after the upgrade. And I'd purchased Missing Sync a couple months back. I had tried re-pairing with Missing Sync uninstalled from the Wizard but no luck.
As there something I am overlooking? Some registry settings that got wiped out? Should I try a hard reset? Or maybe I should just jump to one of the custom AKU 3 roms (and give up on DUN and move to Internet Sharing, but DUN is just so convenient). I guess installing a custom ROM will pretty much amount to a hard reset.
Either way I wasn't able to use it on the last trip I just got back from, and I'm not going to be able to use it on this trip I'm leaving for tomorrow. Quite annoying.
Thanks,
Tienshiao

I own 128 MB JAM since March 2005 and use it with T-Mobile USA.
In May I installed 1.11.00 WWE upgrade. I had it synchronized with my desktop and laptop and it worked fine for me.
Last week I was on the Business trip and used the JAM only as a phone and a PDA.
When I've got back home I tried to synchronize and charge it as usual.
Synchronization started, but after 25-30 secs it gave me a message within the ActiveSync window "Connected. Synchronization error" and then immediately after that it changed to "Not connected".
I tried again - same result.
Next I tried to synchronize it with my laptop - same story.
After all I tried to delete partnerships and create new - no result. I am able though to connect as a guest.
At that point I decided to try the hard reset. By coincidence that same day I saw the news that ROM 1.13.00 WWE became available. I successfully installed it and tried to ActiveSync without installing the back-up then - no luck, same problem.
As well I'd like to mention that I have HP iPAQ 2215 and I can synchronize it with both computers without any problems.
So it looks like something is wrong with the JAM.
I hope you guys can help me to fix this problem...
Alex,
Had this problem also but my hard reset solved it. Have you tried re-installing Activesync? You may also want to take a look under C:\Documents and Settings\{Your Desktop}\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles to check if indeed the profile data was deleted properly. Goodluck!
Yes, I did hard reset, uninstalled the ActiveSync, erased all files in the 'Profiles' folder, disconnnected the cable, rebooted the desktop, downloaded the latest version of AS from the MS website, lnstalled it.
Then installed the AS, connected the cable, and tryed to establish the partnership.
SAME negative result.
It created the partnership and wright after it said 'Connected. Synchronization error' and immediately droped connection.
I am puzzled here...
I'm stumped! Usually a HR solves this for me... Have you tried a Bluetooth sync (this may be a temp workaround til you find the solution) have you tried using a diff USB port and/or cable to sync your device?
bnycastro,
Thanks for your help.
No, I did not try the bluetooth sync yet, but I definitely know that it is my JAM's problem now.
This morning I installed the latest version of ActiveSync available on the MS website on my daughter's PC. ActiveSync was never installed there before.
Then I tried to sync the JAM - same problem as I described in the previous posts. Right after that I paired my HP 2215 and no problem. It work as it supposed to.
It is a real mistery cause between the last time I was able to syncronize the JAM and the time the problem occure I did not install any software, did not pair it with any other PC... I only used it as a phone and a PDA on the trip.
The only what I noticed is that all of a sudden it started to freeze after every 10 -15 min of use. But now after I flashed the ROM to 1.13.00 it works normally except for the syncing problem.
Any other ideas how I can fix it?
I would really appreciate your help...
I'd suggest the Bluetooth sync and maybe taking it (your device) for service.
Using 4.1, got Qtek Rom on a Vario. Been syncing fine for weeks, now...just says connecting. It must be my Vario as my E200 connects no probs and syncs up properly. Tried going back to 3.8 (yeah I know) 4.0 and re-installing 4.1 but it won't connect...any idead argh !?
Hi there,
What message do you get? Getting settings I suppose?
Disable the firewall and try again ( this helped me, while upgrading a Wizard of a friend!)
Good luck!
Activesync Problems
I had this problem too - was syncing just fine for weeks then all of a sudden nothing. Managed to narrow it down (unfortunately had to delete the as profile each time and start anew) and I can safely say that in my case at least it was due to the "Synchronised Files" feature. I decided not to use synchronised files (i.e. I unchecked "Files" under "Options") and now I have it syncing everything else perfectly - on two separate PCs with absolutely no more issues.
Hope this helps mate.
Forgot to mention I have an o2 mini s. (Not the XDAII as indicated <--)

Did you install any firewall software? Do you have active firewall when running AS? Did you regedit your Wizard's registry in branches of AS?
Well at least you get some connection.
When I connect my KJAM I get the normal 'ding dong' and then NOTHING.
If I connect my old PDA2K to the same port it works fine!!!!!!!
Robin
Thanks for the help. I disabled my firewall (Kerio), reset the PC, did the other network hacks to try and get activesync to work. But it wouldn't.
But like I said my E200 (Voyager) sync'd no probs. Somehow as mentioned I think the registry got upset by some fiddling and a hard reset was the the cure then many hours getting it back to settings again, re-installing aps on mem card so I could see them on the phone as icons etc etc.
My device is a Vario with a Qtek Rom (tried K-Jam like the less stuff on the Qtek) with the extended Rom unlocked.

Didn't think to try this. I actually had this prob on my Magician (MDA compact) before I sold it. Should have remembered. Cheers.
Hello,
In fact activesync seems to be te culprit of most my 9100 problems and slowdowns.
I am currently using Activesync 4.1.4841 and when synchronizing with my Wizard everything seems to be working correctly for a first sync. Then I disconnect it from USB, wait a few seconds and try to sync again and it takes forever...slowing down the Pocket PC drastically (until soft-reset)...until returning a timeout message:
"Synchronization cannot be completed sucessfully. Reconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft ActiveSync Troubleshooter in Microsoft ActiveSync Help on your desktop computer."
Any ideia how this might be solved?
Cheers,
Francisco Teixeira
Hi, I just bought a MDA Vario and downloaded the software to sim-unlock it. I've been using it on Vodafone for a few days and have some problems:
Wi-Fi:
I can turn wireless on, but when I then go to IE to start surfing, it tries to connect using GPRS instead of Wi-Fi. How do I get it to use Wi-Fi instead?
Bluetooth:
I can Sync my device to my PC using Active Sync 4.1 over USB, but when trying to do this over bluetooth, I keep getting told that the device can't find a an existing Bluetooth partnership, even though I've set one up (several times)! What could I be doing wrong?
ROMS:
I've got the T-Mobile ROM on my phone, but I'd rather have a standard (non-network specific) ROM. Where can I download such a ROM? Would ther ebe any issues in overwriting the T-Mobile ROM with a Standard one? Which ROM is the "best"?

If WiFi is on and connected successfully to the network, it should use WiFi. I sometimes find if I wander about, and the phone loses site of my Access Point without me noticing, the next time I request a webpage it will fire up GPRS. You say you're connected, but it sounds like the Vario doesn't think so. Are you sure you've got WEP/WPA keys correct, and that the Wireless AP isn't using MAC filtering? Have you been able to get onto the net with IE at all, or has it always tried to get out over GPRS instead?

When you pair the Vario with the PC, both ends will offer a list of Bluetooth profiles they support. When I tried with my laptop and a 3com BT dongle, despite it working fine with my old iPAQ, the Wizard didn't seem to think that the laptop offered the ActiveSync service (or maybe the laptop didn't think the phone did, I can't remember for sure). You need to make sure that the Vario (if that's the "device" that's complaining) believes the PC is offering ActiveSync as a Bluetooth service, or it will assume it's only paired with other phones, GPS's, headsets etc, but nothing with which it could activesync.

The ftp site here hosts a load of ROM's. I don't know of any that are noticeably better all around than any others. I have a Qtek phone, and although the later ROM fixes the BT voice-dial wake-up problem it also breaks, MMS and some bits of WiFi for some people. Others have installed the WWE version of a ROM and found that the keyboard doesn't match their hardware layout and some keys are wrong. They've then gone and broken button mappings trying to fix the keyboard problem. I know T-Mobile are the least subtle in their customisation, and many people seem to want to get rid of the pink look. I don't believe there is a clear winner in the ROM stakes. I've seen a few sigs that suggest people are starting to cook their own ROM with the GSM stack from one, the WiFi from another or whatever combination suits them. If you're up for doing the same, be my guest, but you may, unless you're experienced, find yourself worse off than you are now.
Have a look over in the "upgrading" forum and see what people seem to be using there. Be aware though, a lot of the "old timers" will be using I-Mate or Qtek devices which hit the streets before the O2 and T-Mobile variants, so they have had less device specific customisation done and were probabaly running a generic WWE (or localised) version anyway.
Hope that helps?
Dox.
Hi,
I've had Hermes for almost a year now and successfully connected it to my laptop via USB. A few weeks ago it suddenly stopped connecting, not only ActiveSync, but USB Modem/Internet Sharing too.
I sent it to HTC Support, but they said everything is OK. Suprisingly, when I got it back it worked. Then, about a week ago the problem occured again. ActiveSync's not working, so is Internet Sharing.
I tried almost everything, resetting the laptop, soft/hard resetting Hermes, disabling advanced network functionality, reinstalling ActiveSync and using AS 4.1 - 4.5 beta, disabling firewall, etc. All I managed to get is some random ActiveSync connections lasting about 5 seconds.
Now, I've read this thread, but I haven't been using Scarybear, Memmaid, Sktools or any other similliar programs so I don't think this concerns me...
Anyone had same problem and found a solution?
Also, there is this little bonus problem. Everytime I make a phone call the phone goes to silent mode. This isn't such a big problem since I'm using SPB Phone Suite and quickly set the default profile back, but it would be nice if someone could help me solve this problem.
Here are the ROM versions on my device, should it come useful...
ROM version: 2.11.255.1
Radio ROM: 1.38.00.10
ExtROM: 2.11.255.102
Similar problem, possible solution
I had experienced a somewhat similar problem. All I did was to reflash a new ROM (now using WMIV Black 3.01) now everything is OK... though haven't tried it with SPB.
Hope this helps
I've flashed the ROM to AKU 3.3 right after it returned from tech support and it didn't help. Haven't tried WM6 though...
Okay, so my Hermes is acting up. I'm on Shamanix's 3.62 ROM, radio 1.54.30. Everything works great and I can get programs like HTC weather to hit the net, Avantgo, or any other programs at any time to hit the net when I'm connected. But when I start IE it shows at the bottom of the screen where it's trying to load, but instead of the KB number going up, it stays at "0" and the page never loads. No matter what site I try, it never loads. I have done I don't know how many soft resets. I use the "disable" and "restore" cingular proxy cabs when I hit wifi networks, but that's definitely not the problem. Over media net, I can log into MSN messenger at any time and it works great. If the proxy isn't enabled, I get a message saying I can't connect to messenger. I don't know what the deal is. Any ideas? I've searched through everything I can find to try and figure out why IE won't load!! Thanks!!
Same problem here...no internet through PIE. Media Net screwed up? I am on F-32 WM6.1 rom. PIE ran fine for few weeks then just died....

That's how mine has been. It happened earlier this week, and somehow PIE came back after several soft reboots. If anyone knows how to fix this, short of reloading the rom, I would definitely appreciate knowing. Thanks!
Hey all,
Try the following...
1st, backup up your device using SPB Backup or Sprite.
Next, do a hard reset.
After your device reboots from the initial setup, try using your wifi to connect to the internet.
Now try IE...
Does IE work? If so.... it's just a settings issue in your Connections settings.
Restore your device using the backup created in step 1 if you want to get back to where you started or just setup your Hermes again from scratch. I know it's a pain in the butt but it does solve the issue
Good luck
No need to Hard Reset. I can connect fine with wifi...just not through media net for some reason...No settings where changes, it just quit one day. Since then I have tried all sorts of different connection settings. I can get my email without any problems, but can't connect to any websites under PIE.
Okay, it definitely has something to do with using the disable cingular proxy and PIE. I have hardbooted my hermes, reloaded the ROM, and everything worked great over medianet. Then I just tried the disable and restore cingular proxy, and the issue just came right back!!! Man, if anybody know whether there's an issue with those two programs, please let me know!!
