Where can I find official HTC ROM updates? - P3300, MDA Compact III upgrading etc.

Goodmorning,
Does someone know where I can download official HTC released ROM files? HTC doesn't publish their ROM images on a own FTP server, but referes to the operator sites. I bought my P3300 in the Netherlands (www.misco.nl), but my device isn't (apparently) imported trough the official Dutch importer (www.smartmobility.nl). Smart
Mobility doens't have my IMEI number in their database, with the result that I can't access the ROM-updates. Does someone know the official UK HTC importer, where I can try to check for ROM-updates? I suppose they will recognise my IMEI-number...
I can't understand why HTC distributes their ROM update so laborious. It would be much easier I they would publish it on www.htc.com. Is is easy, one central point for all customers and users are always 100% sure that they have the latest version of the ROM. Now we are depenable of the "operators" and they use IMEI-verification, maybe they are late with putting ROM updates online, etc, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Roger

Well for now you shouldn't worry - there aren't any 'official' upgrades at the moment (I just checked the Smart Mobility site). When/if they are released, I'm sure you'll be able to get them through different channels.

Yeah...read it too... how absurd...
Leaves me a bad taste in the mouth...
I agree is a bad taste...
I hope this service/support will be implemented in the next future, after all HTC has started now to commercialize directly his products without other partners (like i-mate for example) that are already structured for that.
Let's hope togheter ;-)

I had the same kind of reply too from HTC.

Official Update is on the Norway Support Page

I wonder when the rest will follow.
Version number is the same as the leaked one. The page doesn't accept the serial number I entered (perhaps because mine was a UK phone?). Can someone report whether there is any difference between this ROM and the leaked one?
Well I think this update is for Nordic only. It's at the danish site too

yeah but it only shows the general build number. the are more detailed numbers when you actually check out the build on the hero.
so somebody has to update the official rom and post the detailed build infos here.
It seems impossible to download the new image using firefox on linux. Is HTC so bent on MS products that they won't support downloads with a non-MS browser, or is the support-page just broken?
U need Windows to do it

There is something strange going on on HTC Support site. Pages are not showing download links. Will probably be fixed soon.

Hope not. I ditched windows 15 years ago and don't intend to install it anywhere just to be able to maintain a linux-device
Jokes aside, I believe it will be possible to extract an update.zip that can be installed the same way as MoDaCo's custom rom, although that method will remain unsupported by HTC.
will this update work with a non branded hero? being that the update is posted on the norway webpage
just installer the nordic, sweden update. awesome. Major difference in the entire feel of the OS.
Did it perform a system reset? Need to know whether I need to save my files or not.
yes it did, wiped everything on the phonememory. I used mybackup to back it all up.
What backup software did you use?
I have a SIM unlocked HTC Hero and i'm in the UK. Should I wait for the official UK ROM or just install the nordic one? Has anyone got any experience in installing the Nordic ROM to a non-nordic hero?
axe look the topic above you
Mybackup is great to back up everything (except scenes).

Or.. Get a serial from here, and use it to download it.
I'm on Vodafone UK and the UK ROM upgrade when I put my serial in says it now for my device, I have checked with Vodafone and they say my phone has a custom ROM and I will void my contract/warranty if I use anything but a Vodafone approved ROM upgrade but they aren't putting this one out !!!!!!!

It will void you warranty with Vodafone, but not with HTC.
Edited to add:
Actually just checked on the Voda site:
"Any updates done outside of the scope of Vodafone UK's officially approved software, or updates done with versions that are not approved by Vodafone (i.e. those not listed on our online updates page or by sending off directly through Vodafone for repair) will invalidate your Vodafone warranty (official releases direct from the manufacturer do not invalidate your warranty).
As such Vodafone will take no responsibility for the fault and warranty cover will not be provided. Vodafone are very careful when approving software versions to make sure they provide the most compatibility with our devices and most importantly our network.
If you're unsure which updates are approved by Vodafone, we recommend that you check with us prior to completing the update. If you choose to de-brand any Vodafone device, this again will automatically void your warranty cover"
When I enter my S/N I get the message
"Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
I have an O2 HTC HD2 with 1.42.206.4 (70315) WWE.
Any ideas?

Updates on the HTC site are for unbranded HTC stock phones only.
The devices are unbranded stock HTC devices. The ROM's on the devices from Vodafone (at least) have no customisation at all.
However HTC has assigned blocks of SN's to various operators and as such those SN's are automatically blocked from updating direct from HTC due to the normal operator/manufacture ROM upgrade agreements that allow the operator to control what updates its customers are allowed.
On a software level the upgrade thats on the HTC website will be identical to the one that the operator authorises but we are just having to wait for red tape.
It's because your phone "mother tong" is not the same as the one from the new ROM. use a Gold Card (see on the stickies on this forum)
will i need a goldcard to get this on my o2 hd2 leo??
Will installing a new rom erase all my reg tweaks?

Still not sure what this means exactly
As it is an "official releases direct from the manufacturer" can I download it and put it on even without voiding my warranty?
I can't actually do this because by S/N is a vodafone S/N which are blacklisted by HTC at the moment.

You'd be debranding your phone if you applied this update. According to the last sentence in Isadora's quote that will void your warranty.
Customers such as yourself are in a difficult situation though because Vodafone aren't likely to provide much support for this phone now that they've stopped selling it. Having said that, in my experience most phone companies are pretty hopeless when it comes to releasing firmware updates regardless of whether the phone is "important" to them or not. I'd give up on waiting for official updates if I were you and just debrand.
Thanks, do i still get any HTC warranty?

I have to say that the wording on Voda's site is a bit confusing (what a surprise... ) as they seem to imply that manufactuers updates are ok "official releases direct from the manufacturer do not invalidate your warranty" but not debranding "If you choose to de-brand any Vodafone device, this again will automatically void your warranty cover" so do they mean only cooked roms will void the warranty? In any case as you've rightly pointly out, their support of the HD2 is probably going to be minimal now and I, for one, will happily flash away

Yes as long as you have an official HTC ROM on the phone. However even if you've got a cooked one from here (when they're available!) and say you need to get HTC to repair your phone, just re-flash an official one on before sending it to them and you should be ok
I know flashing the ROM will erase every modification I've made to my device over the past few weeks but was wondering if I backed up my device with SPB will I be able to restore to the newer ROM version?

New Dutch ROM 1.72.172.0 on HTC website...

... but I can't download it. After I enter my serial number, it says the software is not fit for my device. I highly doubt that, since it's a regular Dutch HD2 and I could download the previous update (1.66) just fine.
Could it be that they don't have the ROM file fully online yet?
I guess I'll try again later. If anyone has more success, please let me know.
http://www.htc.com/nl/supportDownload.aspx?p_id=297&cat=2&dl_id=920
I found out about it through the RSS feed for Dutch HD2 upgrades, but I just noticed it hasn't even shown up in their support news section yet. I guess I'll just have to wait.
It's a new Rom for Vodafone users, not for us default users
heheh, branded roms are not that fast as it should be

Thanks.
I just saw another post here that referred to it as the 'Vodafone 1.72 ROM' but I always figured HTC wouldn't put it on their own website then.
I guess they do.
I experienced the same, I don't understand why they never post a decent description with their updates. That would probably relieve their own help desk too!
Thanks for the info.
To all (dutch) users, flash a new rom the moment you unbox your HD2 tbh, the default ones cant even send sms
I disagree: it works fine

I can't download the new rom either, though I have vodafone.

For all we know that account could have been made by anyone??
I do hope it's true... but I am a real sceptic and pessimist and most of all a realist...
We'll see.

Um.. sorry if this is a dumb question, but my Hero's version is 2.73.405.5 and that's the latest ROM Version according to htc.com/europe/
so.. is that version getting the update or is it just the 2.73.751.13 the Taiwanese version and 2.73.405.5 the European one and both are practically the same?
Hooraaay for 2.1 (party)
Update consists of series of binary patches, so probably it won't apply to anything but 2.73.751.13

It upgrades to (Android 2.1 3.31.751.1) from 2.73.751.13 OTA.
It's doubtful you'll be able to use the image as is from another ROM. But rooted users should be able to use a repacked version with no problem. It comes with a new radio, so care would have be taken to make sure there is no funkiness with current engineering SPLs.
now just need patient to wait for cooked rom
hi. im newbie and haven't root my hero. my hero is firmware singapore version.2.73.707.9 can i upgrade my
hero with this? or i should wait for south east asia version roll out? thanks.
sorry for.noob question...
sorry to say that you must have a taiwan version phone to update
First update to 2.73 will probably include some patches for the OTA client.
Not wanting to put a downer in this but haven't htc always told us we'll see a small ota update before the offical update to 2.1.
This sounds like it's taking them direct to 2.1
Well in Europe it looks like we have currently to wait, but there are another News about the OTA-UPdate on the European Site for Legend and Bravo :

Hi , this is my first post im new here, Ive got 2 Heros coming from the UK, one is unlocked but the other is on T-mobile, both are running 1.5 android
Can someone point out to me the steps involved to Root both these devices and transfer a Custom htc hero 2.1 android Firmware to them......
Im used to flashing nokias and iphones but this android is totally new to me so i want to do it properly.
Thanks for any help or links to the things i need and topics on this
P.s Or do people recormmend just updating though HTC Site ? ( although i wud want 2.2 on these when ever that becomes avail ) hehe
Thanks peeps
Its about time this update came out. I don't see why the Droid Eris got the update months ago yet the GSM Hero has take so much longer. This is the reason I sold my Hero and got a Desire.
