I've needed to sync my MDA to my computer via USB without fully charging the battery. After syncing the two, I turn my phone off and disconnect the USB cord. The problem is that my battery reads as fully charged while only a few minutes prior it read as 75%. What the heck is going on?
Is anyone else having this issue?
Any suggestions?
Francis
Yeah, I have the exact same problem. Same thing happens when I soft reset the phone. It ends up going back to 100%.
this seems like it'll be a problem. if the battery keeps getting reset to 100%, then when is really fully charged? argh.

I have a 8125 and I was able to unlock it fine. After unlocking it I upgraded to the underground crossbow edition rom - which the 8125 rebooted and was running. I tried out a couple things and everything seemed to be running/working fine. It was getting late so I put it down and went to bed. This morning when I got up the phone was off so I went to turn it on and nothing happened. I figured it just ran out of battery power plugged in the charger and guess what no red light on. I have tried everything under the sun but I cant get it to charge or startup. Anyone have any ideas? It was working fine.
i know u said u've tried everything and i don't mean to sound like i'm takin the buscuit, but leave it on charge for n hour, then try bootloader. taking the battery out completely for a while could work.
i had so many problems with crossbow! think this was one of them.
Unplugged
Well so far I left the charger plugged into the phone with the battery in it for over an hour now - with no luck. The red charging light doesn't even come on. Did you have that problem? I also left the battery out and plugged in - still nothing. Tried taking the battery out and then putting it back in while plugged in - no go.
I have not tried the "bootloader" - but the phone will not turn on at all or respond in anyway. Its in a powered down state (or so it seems) - I dont think bootloader will work?? But I dont know anything about bootloader - is it on the ftp site and how do I use it?
Any chance the battery could have been completely discharged?..just a thought. I think i read that completely flat batteries wont charge up via usb. Disregard if thats a silly suggestion, just thought id offer my two cents.
try getting a new battery and see if it boots up...it can be your battery.and you are trying to charge with an AC adapter right?
Wall Charger
I am charing it via the wall charger (not usb) and I am going to try to get another battery. Just weird that I never had a battery problem until I install the wm6??!! Unless the damn thing drained my battery dry and somehow damaged the battery. I called Cingular and they are sending me another unit as its still in warranty. So we'll see when I get it - I will try the new battery. Strange. Very Strange - because everything was working last night.
Strange
Well after leaving the battery out all afternoon I took a go at the phone again, put in the battery then turned it on. It actually started booting up - showing the WM6 bootscreen. After about a minute it shut down like it was out of power. Strange. I know the phone is not bricked because if it was it wouldn't have just done what it did. Anyone have any suggestions how to fix it?
Could be a bad battery. You need to test out with some one else battery

New Battery
Well I finally got the new battery I ordered today. When I put it into my phone it will boot into wm6 fine but will not sync with activesync 4.0 or charge via USB or plugged into the wall. I uninstalled activesync, rebooted my computer and installed Activesync 4.5 - but still no luck with the phone via usb syncing with my pc. Also when the phone in plugged into the wall via the wall charger it does not charge. I am beginning to think the port on the bottom somehow was disabled from the rom update, although I dont see any posts with people having that problem. I guess my next option is trying to reflash it to stock rom via a sd card since it wont connect via USB - however I can not find the information step by step how to do this. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Try going to the bootloader screen: Turn off your phone and then hold the camera button while you turn it on. When you are at the Rainbow screen (thats the bootloader) plug in your USB cord. You should see in the bottom left (above the left soft key) where it says USB. If it doesn't then I'd say your USB port is broken (I'm not aware of any ROM being able to disable that).
As for flashing from the SD card, I believe thats documented in the Wiki...
Hi, all,
My Titan/XV6800 often thinks that it's being recharged even after the USB cable has been unplugged from it. The Settings>Power screen shows "Charging" and the right LED is amber. Soft resets and temporarily removing the battery didn't help.
Ideas on how to fix this? I don't want to hard reset unless really needed. Thanks!
Update: A hard reset didn't fix it, either. And, the phone further thinks that it has charged itself to 100%, unplugged. I may just have the world's first kinetic powered PPC.
My 2 months old Touch HD doesn't charge the battery anymore.
If i plug the power cord, the notification led turns red for 5-7 sec., then it turns off, and the battery meter shows no charging.
I can sync it with PC but runs again on battery, even the check box (under the power meter) is unchecked.
The only way to charge the battery, is to let the battery drains out (the phone turns itself off) and remove the battery from phone for few minutes.
I have the original ROM 1.57.831.1 (47324) WWE from 04/08/09 and i tried one hard reset ("clear storage" from settings).
Does anyone know how to fix this ?
I'm verry disappointed. Now it does'nt charge even i remove the battery.
I think i'll try the warranty service.
No other suggestions ?
Are you sure it is the problem of the HTC HD? I got hte same problem. But because I charged my second battery which was newly bought from the official website HTC UK. My original battery works well. So I returned my second battery.
Try another battery.

yep, same here...
my girlfriend and me, we own a HD, pretty much the same issue...
My device frist stated "unkown main battery status" and has been only willing to charge the battery while switched off and connected to PC (charger doesn't work).
My grilfriend's one now refuses to start at all.
One thing for sure - its not battery related since my fully recharged battery doesn't make her device starting.
I sometimes pulled out the battery without swichting the device off, or left it running for days before reseting it...i guess that might have triggered the problem...
gotta send it in, hopefully they don't mind my custom rom!

I had this problem to.... Change of USB cable did the trick! So.....it's possible that your USB mini cable is dead. Try another USB if you haven't tried it yet.
Thank you all.

I don't think it's the cable because i let the phone charging on my desk and suddenly, after few minutes (sometimes 1 min, sometimes 60 min) it stops charging (without touching/moving the cable),

Well, in your case, for sure its not battery related.
After i left the battery out of the phone for 6 hours, it start charging again for 45 min then, the notification led start blinking red and green. After 2 minutes, the led turns off and i started the phone with 40% battery life.
It's driving me crazy and i don't know what to think!
I start to believe it's a battery problem but i'll ask for service opinion too, since i payed a lot of money for this.
Solved
My handset was repaired in service.
The problem was hardware related, generated by malfunction of switching power alimentation mechanism to motherboard.
My phone has a charge problem, after 5 minutes on the charger, he stops charging (orange light becomes green...). When I try using it without charger, the batter seems to be charged 100%, but after a few minute, he shuts down, sometimes with a warning (of low battery), but mostly the battery still gives 99% and shuts down without warning...
When connected to the charger, no problems occur...
I already tried a soft reset and a hard reset (via buttons and via the settings)
Somebody thinks he knows a solution?
Sounds like a hardware fault either battery or phone its self
I agree, most likely a faulty battery.
thx for the very quick reply... I'm going to send it back. Found a forum where users of the HTC HD (1) had the same problem.
This morning my HD2(7) was totaly empty. The power button did not do anything and the phone won't start up. When I hooked it up to the charger, the red led did not come up and the phone was not charged at all.
I tried to do a soft reset, but nothing happend. Some posts on this forum suggested a hard reset, but I did not want to loose all content on my phone.
It seems that the real solution is very simple. Just connect the phone to a charger, remove the battery completly and then place the battery back in the phone. The HTC will now start up and begin to charge.
So, just a waring, do not hard reset when you phone stops charging...
Cheers, Rene
Funnily enough I put my phone on charge last night, forgetting that I'd also switched it off... Came to it this morning and remembered about the charging issue when switched off. Tried to switch the phone on and nothing... So I went to change the battery with the wife's HD2, but managed to mix up the batteries and found that my phone would switch on afterall and it was also fully charged. The wife had her's on charge overnight as well, so both batteries were showing as being full...
Charging issue has been fix up in the MAGLDR 1.13 version

There is no doubt that this is sensible advice, but there may be an overlap with another issue here.
I have noticed - and it could just be specific to my phone - that if the phone gets to the point where it shuts itself down to conserve power, it will often not restart from the power on button and only pulling the battery will wake it up. This seems to be a 'feature' of WP7 on HD2.
Interestingly, on several occasions where the battery has been fully charged (and still plugged in) the phone will not start from power on if I do a shut down - I tried it less than an hour ago after making a couple registry tweaks and only pulling the battery would persuade a fully charged phone to restart. It would be interesting to know if others are finding the same.
Where the battery is seriously discharged, it can take several cycles of pull battery - boot phone - phone decides it has insufficient battery and shuts down - pull battery - boot phone...before WP7 decides it has had enough juice trickled back into it to be able to charge - sounds crazy, but there you go.
MAGLDR v1.12 doesn't support charging, which doesn't help. I'm going to try v1.13 to see if agarp is correct - here's hoping.
Update: I don't think MAGLDR113 supports charging directly but I believe it has something built in to prevent a plugged in phone running down the battery. Not sure about exactly what, but it suggests something about booting the phone if plugged in and battery is at critical levels.
