Help...2 Gig Sandisk issue

Hi guys, I just purchased a 2 gig Sandisk for Jasjar. For some odd reason my device only reads it as 1 gig? But when I insert the card into my laptop, it's read as 2 gigs? So I reformatted the card and now it still reads as 1 gig on Jasjar with about 85% used up and my laptop reads it as 2 gigs with 85% used up as well?? This is without anything on it?! Please help.

So, do I just reformat via a new card reader? Does that solve the 1-gig read issue?

@evo8, I had the same problem on my Toshiba laptop because I used the Toshiba format utility instead of the XP one to format my 2GB SD card. If you can't get it to work return it to Sandisk for a replacement.

I have a Sandisk Ultra II 2GB SD card (actually 2 of them) and they work perfectly.
Do you by chance know of anyone with another HTC Universal device and/or someone with another 2GB SD that you can use to do some cross testing?
Have you soft-reset the device before inserting it?
Hard-reset? (I know . . . last resort)

How about installing Pocket Mechanic on your HTC Universal and let Pocket Mechanic reformat your SD card through your Universal.

I think the prob lies with the card reader. When I first bought my Kingston 2GB SD, I plugged it into my Exec and it read well. So I put it into the built-in SD card reader on my HP laptop and for some reason, it only read as 1GB, looking at the properties.......it showed up as partitioned with 0.9GB used!! And the card had only 1 MP3 song on it transferred from my Exec.
So i tried reformatting it and it became worse! It was totally unreadable by my Exec, while it still showed as 1GB on my laptop. So I tried a new card reader and it worked! Read as 2GB on my laptop. Reformatted the SD using the card reader, and thereafter, it can be used on both my Exec and laptop (with the new card reader)

i've got a 2GB "RIDATA" card - works perfectly in Jasjar.

Having had the same problem with my 2 gig SanDisk card, I contacted SanDisk, they told me they suspect the card had been corrupted, this after it initially worked in my Jasjar, they gave me an address and contact details for a firm in the UK that handle their problems and they checked the card, found it had become corrupted and sent me a new one within three days or so. My tosh read the new card properly straight away and I have not had any problems since. Suggest you might want to do the same if the other suggestions don't work for you.

Thanks for all the feedback, but I gave up on the Sandisk 2 gig card and sent it back for a full refund. Does anyone know what brand would work though?

You probably have your money back by now and perhaps have bought another card already. However, as I said SanDisk sent me another 2gig card and it works fine in both the Universal and in my laptops card reader.

Max memory card size for the XDA Mini S / Wizard?

I've ordered an O2 XDA Mini S, due tomorrow, & was wondering if there was a limit on the size of mini-SD cards it can use?

Don't know of an official maximum, but I have a 2GB miniSD in my TMobile USA MDA with no problems.

So you can use at least as high as 2GB...A lot higher than the 128MB limit my old SE P900 has on card size!

I use a 2gb, without problems. When they are released a 4GB card should work, as there are many reports of successful usage in prophets and magicians

2 Gig storage card not recognized by my Wizard

I'm using MDA Vario. I bought 2 Gig storage card. At the first time, my MDA was able to recognize my 2 Gig mini SD. Then I put the card on the card reader on my Laptop in order to copy some file. There was a comment on the dialog box in my laptop that my 2 Gig mini SD has not been formated and the dialog box offered me to format it. Then I clicked yes to proceed the formatting process.
Unfortunatelly, after I format my 2 Gig mini SD using my laptop; My 2 Gig mini SD could not be recognized by my MDA, but my laptop is still able to recognize my 2 Gig mini SD card.
Up to the present I have not been able to use my 2 Gig mini SD on my Wizard since I format it using my Laptop.
I also has formated my 128MB and 256MB mini SD cards using the same laptop and it works on my MDA.
Could you please help me to fix the problem?

Thank you very much for your advice. I've tried using pocket mechanic to format my mini SD, as recommended in the forum you gave to me; but, I still have not been able to use it. Pocket mechanic didn't recognise my mini SD.

4GB SD memory for XDA Exec (Universal)

do you guys know if a 4 GB SD Card will work with the Universal. I saw in one of the signatures that people are using 2GB SD Cards, was wondering what is the upper limit?

I have an AData 4GB card purchased from some dodgy geezer in Hong Kong via eBay - it works perfectly. So go ahead and get yourself one

I will works fine but after you rich the maximum data with combination of software, you can encounter slow moving of any application hanging more often than usual and it will eat your battery 4x faster than normal consumption. :?

The speed of the card doesnt make much of a difference when using the it in the PPC. But you will notice the 150x SD card in a card reader for on the computer. Speeds of read and and write will be really fast, but it has no effect on PPC speeds, the PPC can only go so fast.

iv got a 150x transcend in mine working fine, well iv used it for about 4 months now, it does however have some slight issues with the camera...
before you can save images direct to the card you must have less than 2GB of space left on the card as the camera prog does not recognise anything more than 2gig, so if you try an take a pic with an empty 4gig card it will fail (unless you set images to save direct onto phone)
1 other problem i have encountered, i dont know whethere this was down to the camera, the phone or the card but, when i was away on holiday, i had around 2.5gb of audio and was using the camera a fair bit on my travells, then 1 day when i took a pic it overwrote (is that a word?) :lol: everything on my card!!! when i went into my storage space it said that the card still had 3gb taken up on card but when i went onto file explorer there would be nothing left showing on the card other than images i had taken since :roll: bit of a pain in the ass but it hasnt done me any wrong since then, still filling it with lots of audio/txt/images and no more problems (touch wood)

i had this experience with a 1GB sandisk card. I think it happens when a read or write to the SD card fails or doesn't finish [not sure here], happened twice the 1st instance I was able to use the SD card again [reformatted it with a camera, then again using Resco Explorer on the PPC] the 2nd time it happened the card was dead. Right now I am using a 1GB miniSD [in the adapter of course] which I bought for my ex-PPC [a Wizard] I plan to get a 4Gb SD card as well. If the speed of the card is only really noticeable with card readers then I'm ok with that [as I transfer songs and such via my notebook's in built card reader]. Hmm time to go SD card hunting over the weekend!!! Wonder what I'll do with the miniSD though... I have a 1Gb card in my digicam as well, maybe I can pass that off to my lil sis or something... :roll:

Ive just bought "Platinum" 4GB. It cost me 82$, here in Poland.
Universal report it have just 3,56GB but it is working as expected. Ive benchhmarked it in pocket mechanic - index:122

I got a Transcend 4Gb 150x SD Card [Part No.: TS4GSD150]. For around 88USD. It is reported as 3.86Gb under Resco Explorer.

I bought a MobyMemory 4Gb card from, suprise suprise, www.mobymemory.co.uk. Almost certainly rebadged from somewhere else but I though it was a good price at under £50 and works fine on my XDA Exec. They also throw in a free SD reader as some readers have trouble with 4Gb SD cards. I had to reformat the SD card under Windows XP for it to be seen by both the Exec and Win XP (as shipped, only the Exec could read the card).
Have the wiki and tomeraider on there - great for being a smartarse down the pub.

I am wondering if anyone has tried the new 8GB SD card on the Universal? dose it works?
BTW,My hx4700 which is 2004's unit and it works perfectly with the 8GB CF card. so...the new HCSD card will be working too?
I am using the ADATA 4GB 150X card too,it will take at least 12seconds :shock: to boot the phone pad once I press the CALL button in device shut down mode,is that normal?

SDHC will not work on old and current devices IIRC it needs a special SDHC capable SD slot for it to work with the newer cards. Dunno when SDHC will come to mobile devices though as I fear that the trend is that manufacturer's are moving towards transflash [aka microSD] and miniSD.

my 4GB main SD card worked so well, i bought 4 more to encode movies on
now i need a better DVD ripper Wondershare pocket DVD stupid is too quirky. can't rip some DVDs, sometime frame seqences willl repeat dejavu...

minisd problems after device goes into standby

Anyone else having an issue where after the trinity goes into standby maybe 2-3 times you are no longer able to access the minisd card? It still shows it being there.. but if you try to open any files it comes up with errors or will hang before finally timing out. The only way to resolve it for me has been to eject it and reinsert the media. The card works fine in my Wizard so I know it's not the card. The card is a 1gb Kingston Tech.

This dosen't help you anything, but just for information; it works fine for me... I've got a 2 GB miniSD from Sandisk

Maybe you are right and it's not the card, but I have lost count of how many messages I have read in forums about problems with Kingston cards!
I have a 2gb Sandisk card and it works fine I use windows media player with all mp3 files stored in the card so I would have noticed this problem immediately.

Problem Solved!
I went ahead and picked up a 2gb transcend card and now my problem went away. Thanks for the suggestion to try another card.

I'm also having problems with my SanDisk 2GB card. Didn't exactly check if the problems occur once it's gone on stand-by a couple of times but yes, there have been times I've had to eject and re-insert it to get it working again.
I'm fairly sure it's a bug and not the card because I've also been using the same card in my HTC Wizard and it's worked fine.
Hope there are some ROM updates soon.

same problem with my 2gb 80x from transcend, the card disappear in file explorer , i have to eject and re insert it too.

I did see it happen once and that was on the first day of use.

hmm.. wierd my transcend 2gb card has been working flawless for the past 4 days.. whereas my kingston 1gb would disappear within a few minutes. Guess it's all in the luck of the draw at this point until we get a rom fix. At least the good news is that Trinity forced me into upgrading to a 2gb card which I wanted to do anyway. So I'll give the phone credit for at least that

Initially I had the simmilar problems with my Sandisk 2GB card.
Then I discovered that PocketMax Phonealarm 1.57.00 caused problems. After I went back to Phonealarm 1.56.10 everything worked fine again. The most recent version of Phonealarm is 1.58.00 but I did not try that version yet as 1.56.10 works fine for me.
To see if your Phonealarm is causing problems just try to uninstall, softreset and use your device for a while without Phonealarm.

Since I have never used Phonealarm I'd go for a bug.
I have a Trinity and I noticed this problem with every program or data stored on my 2gb card.
Here is my conversation with the HTC support team :
Q : "I have a serious problemn with my new p3600 : each time it resumes from stand-by mode, the micro sd card is not recognized anymore. The result is I can't use my GPS software or any program installed on the card, nor any program can access to system files or music.
WHat can I do to fix this rather bothering issue?"

With regards to your query, there are no known issues with this device and storage cards. I would however advise you that these devices though they may work with 4GB cards are only tested with 2GB cards. If your SD card is over 2GB i would advise trying a smaller one.
If the card is 2GB or smaller,you may wish to try a hard reset or a different make of card.
Failing that the contact details below are for your relevant repair center."
If anyone has a hint on this issue, please let us know because it's rather disappointing for such an expensive device.

That sure was a disappointing reply from them. I'm pretty sure their tech department is aware of this and its just their support staff that aren't informed of these things.
Anyway, time to play the waiting game.

Had this issue with my 1gb kingston card but the problems occured more often when i was installing and uninstalling apps, with the 2gb from Sandisk at the moment no problems.

No problems with my sandisk 1GB card.

I have used a kingston 2gb card for about two weeks now and I do not have any problems whatsoever with standby and this brand of miniSD

I had the same problem initially with a unbranded 2gb mini-sd purchased from ebay. I purchased a new 2gb Transcend and no problems yet.

It appears that the transcend card you refer to does not work in our p3600 device. Therefore it seems that the P3600 does not support SDHC cards.

I just bought a sandisk 1gb and haven't noticed any bug since. Therefore it means the Trinity doesn't like no name cheap memory cards.
At last, I can make the most of my little wonder!

Has anyone tried with the sandisk ultra cards?

I have an Ultra Sandisk 2 GB and it works like a charm on my Trinity. However, I recently used the Pocket Mechanic 2,23 and it screwed up my mini sd and warrented a format from my laptop following the defragmentation of the card through Pocket Mechanic. It is reported that Pocket Mechanic screws the sds if you use them to mess/ format or defragment the cards. I reinstalled everything with the exception of PM and now I have no problems.

8 gb memory card???

considering purchasing an 8gb memory card for my htc herald, have any of you tried this sucessfully??? the storage memory for the internal memory is not that great as you know and even things that you store in the memory card take up shortcut room in memory...what do you think?? are any of you running the phone on 4 GB memory stick? thanks ...

I have no problems running a cheap 8gb micro-sd from a no-name brand in my HTC P4350,
However, mine does feel a bit slower (yes its possible), since the upgrade from a 2gb card.

Ive been using a 8GB for about 6 months now and havent had ANYproblems with it. I actually had more problems with my old 1GB. It runs perfect!

i have the 8 gb card from amazon and i used it in my shadow and now my wing, its awesome, i keep all my phone supplies there and music, movies, vids, ebooks...keeps on going, lol its worth it, will be looking into the 16 gb soon just to be able to have an even bigger collection for on the go

i've been using a 8gb card from kingston, don't pack it too full or else your phone will lag, i use it for mostly music and i find that when i fill it up all the way it gets a little corrupted
looking @ buy.com for the 16gb cards, 40 bucks...just needs to drop a little moer....

i got a sandisk 8gb loaded with movies, mp3s, ebooks basically everything and it runs smooth

yep..8gb is fine. slower than my 4gb, but not too bad

ok..sorry for disturbing the hype, but I need to post this:
I upgraded from 1 to 2 GB and now to 8gb..since then I encoutered issues:
First I copy and pasted everything from my 2gb card onto my 8gb SDHC class 2 card and everything run smoothly..but after some days I realised that all my pivtures I took were gone..than I saw that all folder were weired named--re-named...BUT it changed again and besides that the pixx were gone, all run ok again..
but now..since Yesterday..it is the same..folders re-named..pixx gone and my display says please insert storage-card, but it is included AND I can see the content via file explorer or active sync...its the same with the 2gb card..displays shows the "please insert screen" but I can access via onboard file explorer (fyi all folders are ok..not renamed on the 2gb card)
My idea is, that my simply copy and paste from 2gb to 8gb card was not the proper way to do it..or??
Can someone suggest how to manage this? I have no card reader and I havent found a way to format the 8gb card..to do the copy paste or whatever again..
Any ideas are appreciated!

Did you try right-clicking on the storage card and re-formating it to deault thats what i had to do when i had that problem and havent had a problem since if that doesnt work then you will need to find a cheap usb card reader online....... and if that doesnt help let me know and i might have another solution to help you re-format it

hey phaze, right click within active sync does not allow "format" ..so i tought as well of the card reader thing..or where could I be able to use right click-format option?

do sdhc is correct to use for htc 4350? I hear dform mycard supplier that only sd is usable? so is that my mistake?
