Ok, so i bought a miniSD card for my Cingular 8125. Its a 2gb card. At first it was having problems reading things from it via the phone so i used the WM5torage application to format it and now its only reading as a 1gb card. WTH? what can i do to format this card again and get my lost gig back?
it just splits it to two cards (i.e c: and d: on the pc). you can switch them with the wm5torage...

My 8125 basically erased all my files on my minisd card leaving only the ie and email inbox intact. It wiped out my spbbackup I had on there so I am totally screwed I guess ... nothing to do but rebuild the POS.
Yep, I've lost 2 Sandisk 1GB cards.
So I tried another card - the cheapest piece of crap 1GB I could find... and hello no more problems after three weeks of use!
I haven't got a Wizard of any variant but this 'wipeout' did happen to me recently on my MDA Compact (JAM).
I had a 2GB miniSD in there- was working fine for about 2 months and one I day I noticed that I couldnt run any applications stored on the card. Checked the card contents and everything had wiped (including my backup) except a few files.
Still not sure exactly what caused it- the only thing i remember doing was updating the 'PocketRSS' database (which coincendently was one of the files remaining after the wipe).
Still using the same card now and its working fine
Been using a Topram 1GB off of ebay and *knock on wood* had no issue whatsoever with it so far.
So is this a problem with Wizard or SanDisk? My SanDisk has been in the Wizard since February without any problems (knock on wood as well).
I do have a list of all the software and tweaks I follow to reinstall since I've done it a couple times for ROM upgrades. Reminds me of Windows 95...
I've got the Patriot 1G...got it at Fry's for like $60. One week and counting...

The reason why this happens is simple....
The device was accessing that card and for some reason either you pulled it out or it thinks the card was pulled out. In doing so it "blanks" out the SD card. So long as you don't format the sucker you can recover majority (if not all of your data). There's a few free ones and a few pay ones....
Free:
File Reovery
Smart Reovery - Does Pictures Only
Pay:
F-Recover - Does Pictures Only
RescuePRO
Yes, some of these recovery programs work quite well; I remember using one to recover a friends CF card contents- recovered the majority of data.
I was lucky enough to have my entire 2GB card contents on my PC (transferring from SD to miniSD), so I didn't bother investigating the problem.
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone else is getting intermittent issues w/ their mini-SD card.
I've lost essentially all my data on my 2GB Sandisk on three separate occasions. I have formatted different ways (once w/ RescoExp, and then FAT32 on 2 computers), been v. careful closing my apps and minimizing the amount of writing to the card.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Sandisk's comments are as follows:
"This is a known issue with the devices when they work this way with 2GB and up memory cards. Usually in this cases you just need to contact the manufacturer of the device that you having issues with the reading on, to find out about compatability and what kind of firmware update do you need."
Thanks!
I haven't had any issues with my SanDisk 2gb card using my K-JAM.
Now on other pdas and with other cards, I have had the "lose everything" problem. Two reasons I had...storing email attachments on the and having the unit crash while accessing the card.
My onyl problem with the larger card is my laptop doesn't recognize it
I lost all of my data just last week off of my card, I went ahead ahd reformatted it again, not sure whats wrong with the 2gb cards

I haven't had a single issue with my 2GB TOPRAM card. I have had a few issues where the device doesn't see it (I assume) and renames the folder to Storage Card 2 and creates a new folder "STorage Card" with nothing there. It happens rarely and when it does, I just take the card out, rename the bad folder to StorageCardOld then insert the card again. This corrects the issue. I use the card very heavily and have had it since around the end of January.
I too have had this problem. I hope my suggestion helps.
I've had issues in the past with Sandisk flash cards. My problems were the same as yours until some helpful spark suggested I do a disk error check using windows (right click on drive in explorer>properties>Tools>Error Checking). Format the card and then run the disk check, apparently some Sandisk flash cards exhibit not so rare sector problems. His explanation (the science bit of which I have long since forgotten) was that that by running the disk check, the utility automatically marks the error causing sectors as unusable. The disk can then be used as normal after that, but any reformatting should have the disk check run again to mark the sectors once more.
This has helped me in 2 out of three occasions and so may or may not work for you. Still, I hope this solves your problem.
BS answer from Sandisk
Leighj, that's a BS answer from Sandisk. I guess it would never occur to them that your SD card is defective. Try another card in your machine or that card in another PDA phone if you have either of those options, but if not contact Sandisk and get a replacement. It should have a lifetime warranty, or at least several years.
Have to agree with iclick. My Sandisk cards were basically defective and how I got them running was a workaround and not a solution.
Yes - I wasn't too happy with their response either. Anyway, I just ran through error checking before & after reformatting. Hopefully that works - if not I'm off to shop for a new card. Either way, it's probably the last Sandisk mem card I purchase.
Thanks for your comments!
I have a Sandisk 2Gb Mini-SD as well and I've not had any issues with it so far. If it helps, I've left the card in the factory default format of FAT only - not FAT32. Try putting yours back to FAT and see if you still get any issues. Depending on what program you use the option you want might be labelled as FAT16 instead of just FAT.
I have Sandisk Ultra 2G miniSD, I don't have any problems untill recently. Whenever I try to add my storage capacity to more than 60%, 1GB or more, it gave me an error because the file is write protected and then not responding file transfer.
First, I taught my file is broken, but when I removed other files from the mini SD card and then add it ..... it's work. I used a factory Format type. Do anyone have this problems :?:
Well after contacted Sandisk customer services regarding my memory. They asked me to reformat my card and I did that. through my laptop, but it said that windows cannot complete the format. Now the card is dead.
Do the mini sd cards have a lock?
Do these cards have a lock on them? My old SD cards had a slider but I don't see one on the sandisk card.
The miniSD doesn't have a lock, but the miniSD-to-SD adapter does have a slider just like a real SD.
if i take my sd out for any reason it will often take a few goes to get it recognised by the mini s again. I have to remove/insert it as many as 10 times.
I've had a T-mobile MDA (USA) for about a month now, and I really enjoy it! But, starting a few days ago, I've been having a lot of trouble with the MiniSD flash memory cards. The first card I had was a Corsair 2GB minisd, it worked fine for about a month, then it mysteriously stopped working a few days ago. I decided to RMA the card, but while I waited for my new one to arrive, I would purchase a cheap 1GB minisd so I could at least have some of my data and programs.
The second miniSd (this one branded with the name of the store I got it from: 'Micro Center') lasted for the past two days. I noticed it was dead this morning.
Here are the symptoms in both cases:
-SD card disappears from device.
-Soft-reset / Hard-reset to find that device wants to format SD card b/c it is unreadable.
-Format SD card, only to find that it disappears from the device once more
-MDA no longer responds to SD card.
For Corsair 2GB MiniSD:
-Attempt to format SD card using desktop PC, which leaves the card with half of it's total memory available (1GB). This is also not readable on the MDA device.
I'm very distraught by this whole incident - is it possible that there is something wrong with my MDA? Or is there a possibility that the programs and data I'm storing on the MiniSD are somehow corrupting it?
There's a T-mobile store near my office, I'm thinking about heading over there on my break to ask about this... but I'm afraid I wont get anywhere with them...
If anyone has any thoughts, suggestions, etc... please let me know!
Thanks
I have issues with my SD card. Quite infrequently the SD card disapears - which is pretty annoying. In my case simply ejecting it and reseating it seems to fix the problem. Occaisonally it becomes a little more problematic.
I think it is a problem with the SD socket on the Wizard, as a friend of mine has the same problem.
I have a 1 gig card in my phone and have just bought a 2 gig card.
I want to simply transfer all the data from the 1 gig card to the 2 gig card but dont have a card reader
I have tried to drag the memory card file to the desktop but all i end up with is a raster file.
Surely this must be possible.
Kind regards
Jon

I am having a similar problem. I am on my second card and I have had random photo's corrupt then disappear. ??? I don't know why. Any Ideas?
I use a Duracell card and have never had any problems, did you format the cards before first use ? ... have you tried to format the cards that are not reading.
I work with sd cards all day loading o/s and apps to industrial tocuhscreens and it's very rare to get a totally trashed card.

i formatted it on the hd2 and it still shows no sd card when i put it in a card reader it shows 36meg
have you tried to format it using the card reader in your pc ?
if that works then you could insert it back into the hd2 and try to use the htc format software again.
