I readed in another forum a post by a staff member that used hackmaster on his Hermes. He upped only 20 mhz (or the minimum) and he burned the processor!!
Hermes seems to have an optimized processor and also Hackmaster I think that is a beta.
He was lucky because hermes was replaced in the store with a few hours of use...
So kids dont play with your PDA if you don't know what are you doing

Hi,
I am depressed. When I bought the MDA II a week ago (used) it had a problem that I didnt think would be so bad. The power button didnt work (which I didnt know when I bought it off ebay). So I though what the hell, I can do without it since you can use software to bootload. I updated to WM2005 and everything was fine. Did Buzz's RAM and DOC patches and ok until here. When I tried to install some apps and games I tried to install Age of Empires and try to run it. My Himalaya did crash and I had to remove the battery. When it started it shows me the T-mobile logo, the rom versions etc and then the backlight goes off and resets over and over again by itslef.
Now without a working power button I cannot go into Bootloader mode, since I cant go into the OS I cant run software to go into bootloader mode. I opened the device (I have no warranty anyways) tried to remove the battery but all data was store on the devices memory so I dont think that did much. I tried to figure out what the problem with the button was, but it is so small I cant figure out where the problem is.
So no warranty, no powerbutton and no OS. Exept of the fact that I am ****ed, its 7 o clock in the morning ( No I havent just woken up ) do you think that my Himalaya will every see the light again? If yes, how?
Thanks for reading!
you can try to format it first. just press camera, record, reset button. no need to press power button.
Thanks that worked! I had to clean the regestry as well though!
I saw a thread about the a guy changed his wizard after using it for 5 months
What do u think mates? Is this a phone that just seems good when you firs got it?
My review about this phone is(cingular 8125)I've been using it for a month now.
keyboard got a lit' bit loose..
Poor battery life.(1day at most)
and it keeps dialing the last call while in my pocket in case i forgot the lock itlol(btw is there any autolock program for wizard)
Cheers
Hi Mate,
I have it just for 3 days now , but I wanted to ask you, how can I lock the keypad when I put it in my pocket to avoid dialing by itself by accident ?
i'm using the regular wi5 lock button at the today screen but there are some programs that allows you to choose a hard button and use it as a lock
but im looking for an autolock

Well, since its going into your pocket and you won't need the screen, can't you just hit the power button once to make it go into standby mode. Two benefits, you save battery, and lock the phone (only a press of the power key unlocks it again). In standby, you will still receive phone calls and get email (if its set to poll every XX mnutes, dunno about push email). The only downside to using the power button as a keylock is if you're using the wizard as mp3 player or something becuase standby causes the app to stop.
There's a cab out there that allows you to map the key lock to a button, I forgot what thread its in. I've got keylock mapped to the voice record button (hold). It works well.
Thanks Edyhan, I thought that this Lock is to lock the PPC and give it a password so that nobody can use it without knowing the Password well I am very new with this Pocket PCs, I am still figuring out the beauty.
KINetics, thanks for your reply, I know about the Power button, but it can b pushed - accidently - too then your PPC gonna do some jobs while it is in your Pocket, this is why Locking the buttons is the best solution.
But I really don't need any other apps just to lock the keys, as long as there is a Lock already in the WM5.
I wish the Wizard owners answer the main question of the Thread Starter

I got the tmo mda the day it was available in the US and I like it a lot more now than when I got it. I can't say my keyboard has come loose but it does seem to close with less than a snap now and then. Still, it seems to work fine, as does the phone, so I'm not concerned.
The custom 2.17 rom available on this site seems to work wonders for battery life. When using the stock tmo rom, battery life was a couple days. With the 2.17 rom, it takes 3 days to hit 50%. Your mileage may vary, of course, but it added a couple extra days for me. I've since gotten a battery that's about twice as large (needs a custom backplate for the phone) and it seems to last forever but I haven't measured the time.
Finally, I agree with the above. I hit the power button before putting it in my pocket and it's never once dialed on it's own. I also discovered the secret of hitting the power button after I call or answer the phone. That prevents random screen frenzy from your face as you talk.
I had a Blue Angel phone before the mda and I really liked that phone a lot. It had a larger screen and was much faster but...the mda had WM5 and the BA was 2003SE. Eventually I learned that there's a different "rhythm" to using the mda and once I found it, I stopped overclocking and now I think it's an awesome phone.
For locking the Wizard I normally use a combination of both lock and standby, ty hat way if the power button does get pressed in pocket (which has happened on a couple of occasion) the screen comes on but the pad is still locked.
I've owned mine since January and have been more than happy with it, sure its bigger than my old Orange C500 but it does way more too! only got around to hard reset it the other day to wipe off the T Mobile due to having so much installed on it, tis faster now tho. Overall a great phone, even my stylis still stays in tho it doesn't extend when u pull it out anymore.
Ok, Ive got a new problem with my XDA Exec.
Opened it up and tryied to turn on the backlight and nothing. tried a soft reset, nothingtried a hard reset now it just sticks on the splash screen, the red writing comes up on the right and side and just hangs there forever!
Please help
You're stuck. apparently the only remedy is turning it in to repair. For most of us it is under warranty.
Just off the phone to 02. Theres sending me a new one via courier on monday. it's less than a day old.
Is this a comon fault with the Exec?
erm ... I managed to experience this problem.
I was trying to uninstall SPB GPRS thingy that comes with the O2 package, and it just wouldn't go. I ended up deleting the program files and getting an error when it started up, so I deleted the GPRSNotify file under Startup. It never worked again ...
I got the splash screen, tried soft and hard resetting and various permutations (including standing on one leg and while holding breath) ... nothing. Did try to install fresh ROM, but startup wouldn't get far enough to let PC load ROM over USB.
Ended up contacting O2 who sent me a nice shiny new one, as it was only three weeks old. This time I haven't installed GPRS monitor thingy, and I don't intend to fiddle with it again ... or at least until I've forgotten my lesson ...
Sorry i ment to give you guys an update on this. I did manage to get it working again, although i still accepted the new one the sent to me.
What i did was installed a new rom off the 02 website. at 1st the computer couldnt see the phone so wot i did was enter what i think was the programming side of the phone. i found the instructions on how to this on the net. i think i pressed the 2 soft keys and the light switch while pressing the reset switch with the stylus (i think that was the buttons but unsure as i cant find the page again) when the screen light up again there was some faint writing on the screen with the word serial or usb. Double clicked on the rom file and 30mins later my phone was revived.
Funny it was the gprs monitor that i too installed before the phone screwed up? ive since installed it again on the new phone and have had no problems with it since.

I've just gotten my T-Mobile MDA Pro, and i am very happy with it
however, a few things
1. How do i hard reset? being my first WM5 pda, i cant find how to hard reset (total factory reset) the thing...
2. How do i get out of ozVGA?!?? in the last 5 mins i just set it to true vga... how do i get back to normal? soft reset wont work, just keeps rebooting to true VGA... kinda panicking at the moment...
Help would be much appreciated on this one...
<edit>
omg... breath... i have sorted the VGA problem... man i am sweating buckets now
See, ive wanted a Universal ever since the rumours started nearly 2 years ago... and now i have one i nearly brick it in the same day... and the problem in the end was me being a dumbass and not reading the readme
</edit>
Google!
If you must know, press and hold the backlight (lightbulb) button and use the stylus to press the reset button. Hold the backlight until you get a menu with three options. Use the dpad up button to move from item to item, use the down button to select yes or no. Set Clean Registry and Format Storage to YES and press the middle dpad button to reboot. This also works for the QTEK 9100

Hi, thanks for the info.
sorry about the title, I was kinda preoccupied with my malfunctioning PDA... and I guess I should've used the search, too...
But you got VGA working right?
I wasn't sure if you needed any further help on that...

Hi, after reading that the PM10A could take windows mobile 2006 i tried it, installed it and broke my PM10A. Now all the thing does is Vibrate, it wont charge or turn the screen on, all it does is vibrate for a short period of time and if i plug it in it will vibrate continously. Also it cannot be seen by the computer or active sync, everybody i have talked to about this says that it is a complete mystery, what i was hoping was to see if any body knows what is wrong and could help me??
I only bought this around 3-4 days ago and therefore quite upset, i know its my own fault due to WM2006 but is it fixable?
Please help me.
The Magician can't take WM6. wherever you read it, it was not true... It can't take WM5 either
I'm sorry to be harsh, but this is something that has been asked a lot of times, and the answer is still no. Closest you'll get as far as i know is the WM6 lookalike rom that someone here posted...
you bricked your phone, methinks... Buy a new one off ebay or something.
Welcome to the forums though

The Bootloader
You can enter the bootloader by holding down the camera + power button, and resetting the device.
the reset button is on the bottom right, a small hole. a wallaby reset pin fits nicely in the hole. the magician unfortunately does not have one.(but you can use the magician pencil) "
Works again! Thanks!

My Magicain, seems to be permanently stuck in the bootloader mode. I've tried using the original flash RUU (even the NO_ID version) without success. It either doesn't detect my device, or says that it isn't the correct version for my phone (although I downloaded it from the official site).
Any suggestions?

Hi, i dont know if yours is an I-Mate but try to go to the i-mate website and download it from there it worked for me and i was just thinking you should maybe give it a try, let me know what happens.
Yes, I had already used it. This was what bricked my I-mate Jam, in the first place. I tried using the NO_ID tool, to try to connect with my device, but it keeps saying that my unit is not designed for this tool.

Hi, sorry for the late reply, i used the one named : JAM_UK_Aus_11200_171_11 CDL
hope this helps,
i have now purchased a t-mobile mda 2 but i am having problems with this sim card as it will not recognise any sims i put into it, i have had a bad time with these HTC's that maybe i will not buy any more, this new one i have is my 3rd i think
I got the unit re-flashed with the 'big ROM' versiosion.
The unit now works, but I want to get my other Charmer working now. It shows the bootscreen, then the device turns itself off. I have to remove/re-insert the battery, then do a hard reset to ge it back on.

hi, again sorry for very very late reply, i now fix these PDA's, have you managed to fix your charmer?
No. I haven't fixed the Charmer as yet. I gave up on that project, as it seemed to be more a hardware problem than the actual firmware.
I'll PM you more on this shortly.
