In the latest ActiveSync 4.5 Beta2 there is an option to get device Certificates (Tools, Advanced Tools, Get Device Certificates). In this menu is also Active Information Rights Management, however both of them are greyed out and cannot be selected. In the help there are details about what these are and how to use them, but they obviously don't work. I assume from the help the PC must be a member of an Active Directory network (mine is).
Does anyone know if these features are disabled due to this being a Beta release of ActiveSync or are there some changes that have to be made to AD to get them working? There is little information on Microsofts website.
Andy
A quick update on this and a request for some assistance from people running any version of WM6 on their Wizard please.
I have been informed that the 'Get Device Certificates' option only works with WM6 devices and NOT WM5. Since I haven't taken the plunge and installed any of the WM6 ROMs that are floating around can someone check whether this option is available when running ActiveSync 4.5 (final release NOT the Beta).
I think your PC will need to be on an AD Network with a CA installed - I can't verify if this is the case since the Help file and any information I can find on the web is pretty limited.
Can anyone running Vista check what options there are for Certificate Enrollment in the Mobile Device Centre?
Thanks
Andy
Anyone please?
For anyone who is interested the 'Get Device Certificates' does work when the attached device is running WM6...... You also need to be on an AD network with a CA installed in it since the certificates that are listed are all the templates that are installed in AD.

I have sucessfully enrolled my Wizard running WM6 for the ClientAuth and User certificates. This is much more friendlier and flexible than the enrollment utility included with the device (though not really any easier).

What is an AD? How about a CA? Thanks. I'm trying to use this tool because the wifi on my titan is really flakey and I'm hoping it won't be after I've installed the correct certificates.

AD is M$'s Active Directory - As far as I know the 'Get Device Certificates' from ActiveSync only works in a M$ Active Directory environment with an AD-integrated Certificate Authority (CA) Server where the PC that is running ActiveSync is a member of an AD Domain. If you don't have AD & a CA then this won't work for you.
There are other Certificate Enrollment tools - HTC provide one with their devices, however most of these only Enroll against a M$ CA. I found this page a while ago:
http://www.jacco2.dds.nl/networking/pfximprt.html
This allows you to import certificates on WM5/6, I have never used it though as I have an AD environment.

Ok here's the thing, I downloaded and installed a program from "Skyscape" but couldn't get it working successfully and now can't seem to fully "get rid of it".
Everytime I connect to PC a window briefly pops up (I think its something looking for updates) and everytime I explore my Storage Card through my PC I can see the following folder "Skyscape_Backup".
Everytime I delete it and everytime I plug back in its there again :?
Please Help...
What can I do?
Cheers for any assistance,
marto
How are you deleting it?
Have you used add/remove programs?
After that, check your windows\start up folder and also the program folder it might have been installed in on your device.
If it's still there, it might be a service. Use SKTools to clear that kind of rubbish. Backup first though, danger will robinson, destroy all operating systems...
V
Yep tried "remove programs" which now no longer lists the problem program, also tried deleting through PC. Can't see anything which has the same sort of name in "windows" and "startup" except maybe (and thats a big maybe) ssdeviceid application.
Can't see anything in my book about SKTools I assume its a download?
Will have a search through the forum database and so on
Thanks for your input V.
Yep, sktools is a download.
Is the window that's popping up on the pc or the pda? You didn't state I think.
Also, check in activesync. beneath where it shows all the syncing progress, does it show anything related to skyscape there?
V
Sorry for the delay V (was trying to figure out how to do screen shots)
Yep the popup is at the PC's end.
I installed SKTools it looks pretty dangerous... is there any particular function from it I should be using?
Cheers, marto

Oops forgot to mention "no" nothing seen in ActiveSync.
Yep, don't worry about sk tools. I thought it made sense that the program was on your pc.
Have you removed the program from your PC?Again, use add/remove programs on pc to remove all trace, then check this program: Autoruns
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html
Check each tab for possible entries. the program obviously tries to sync itself with the PDA everytime. I hate programs that are so misbehaved and think they know better.
For the PDA, backup often so you can always go back to a clean-ish setup.

Hmm no success looking with Auotruns, and nothing in "Add/remove".
Was thinking while crashed out on the sofa that I might try to install it all again then uninstall it in a more stable way (I think I may have done it a bit all over the place) otherwise might blast off an email to there support....
Another day more time to play...
Hi there,
i need some help with the topic mentioned above. I read a lot through this forum and the Internet but couldnt get any clue how to achieve it. I actually want to use MSN and ICQ via ActiveSync/BT
I have a German O² XDA mini with R1.12.00, G1337.42, D1.12.01GER (is there a way to update the ROM? This german document on the xda developer ftp isnt available). I am running XP Home with SP2 and use a MSI BT Stick.
It seems that the key uses tis BlueSolei Software from ITV from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18537
but i cant manage to get ActiveSnyc running... my XDA and Windows are pairing but i cant sync...
I am also too noobish to configure my COM Ports in the Pocket PC. They are always blank, so i cant choose any ports?!
When i sync with the ppc sync tool it says:
Connection cant be established. Check dfü & proxy settings and. Then Try again...
Thanks in Advance...
smurf
same Problem.
Can anyone help please ?
ok, i solved my problem. Dont know exactly how but i can post what i did...
First i deleted all COM ports in the Device Manager of windows (except COM1&2). I deinstalled my BT Stick and restarted Windows.
i then installed the bt stick again and then installed and deinstalled this bluesolei software for ppc about 10 times
after that everthing worked fine. AS over BT, MSN, ICQ, PAN and so on...
....
I tried to Install the PPC software on the magician but it installs only on the pc and not on the PPC,
where did you download the software for PPC ?
Theres an excellent guide for this over at Modaco in the smartphone forums somwehere.
The method is exactly the same, i did it on my MDA and it worked flawlessly! Just follow the procedure to the letter... even including restarts!
The thing is when I try to install the software on my ppc it's not really installed.
when the installation process is over it pops up the AS add/remove winow saying that the app would be downloaded next time I connect it (when it's connected already), so I disconnect and reconnect it

reply yes and then it just closes without installing anything on the PPC..
Finally got this this going !
Guys, you don't actually need the bluesoil stack to have messaging and internet over bluetooth. I have a guide here that will tell you everything you need to know about setting up active sync over bluetooth (which let's you access the net) including how to remove hidden com ports on your PC if your port number for active sync is above 9.

Windows 8 is awesome. However it doesn't have the ability to create ad-hoc networks from Network and sharing center. The only way is to use netsh utility from CMD every time you want to start or stop your network. .
So I created a batch file to automate this process. All you have to do is to start it as administrator, follow the instructions and voila!. No need to open cmd again and again
This utility creates an adhoc network. You can use it for streaming Videos and Music or playing LAN games.
For Internet sharing aka Hotspot
Go to Network and Sharing Center –> Change adapter settings
Right click on the device which is connected to internet and select Proerties
Now, open Sharing tab, enable Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection, and then choose the newly created ad-hoc connection from the list
PS. Was wondering if mods can change the topic to "Connec8 - Wifi hotspot utility for windows 8"
Thanks
[RESERVED]
Anyone tested this on Surface or any other tablet running Windows RT? Would like to know if it works. Thanks
Next update will include ability to save a profile for quick start hotspot without setup

Have you ever gotten this error? Here's the solution
As a first try, reboot your Pc and try again. If the problem persists,
Try this:
1)Right-click on the windows logo and click 'run'.
2)type 'services.msc' and push enter
3)Scroll down to windows update and double tap
4)Now,change the default setting of Manual to either automatic or automatic(delayed start)
5)Hit apply
6)Scroll up to windows store and tap once
7)Now click 'start'
8)Make sure both windows update and store display 'running'
9)Now restart your windows store and the problem SHOULD be fixed
10)If it still persists, surf the web for other solutions. If they too don't work, contact the Microsoft help center. If they can't help you either, unfortunately you MAY have to perform a factory data reset.(Do remember to take a backup)
This solution was crafted by me and works for my pc but it may not work on yours so don't blame me if something happens to your pc(highly unlikely).

this will help you but if you previously disabled this settings to prevent windows update from downloading automatically, you caught server stumbled.
you have no choice but to start windows update.
Actually,I don't think any of the windows apps work with that disabled.Correct me if I'm wrong!

Dear All,
I have bought this phone
Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 (Black, 64 GB)
I installed IBM MaaS360 for Corporate Access. That created the Work Profile.
After that, when I am trying to install any App in that "Work Profile", it fails giving following series of errors.
1) Screen comes "SeemPJService has stopped".
2) Then install fail screen comes.
I am pasting screenshots for two Apps that I tried installing on "Work Profile".... Cisco AnyConnect and IBM Bluepages.
Both have same problem... I am attaching the screenshots... Also screenshot with my build details.
PLS Note, I have no problem in installing new Apps in normal/Default profile... It seem to be an issue with the WorkProfle feature of Zenfone.
Also note, clearly there is Work Profile Icon visible in the App install to indicate that failure is in "Work Profile"...

I have used Island app for running dual apps. It creates work profile and works ok. Maybe you can give that a try.
Can't switch
Thank you. But I need to be using given MaaS360 only since its prescribed my Corporate. That way Parallels is working fine.
Any other advice pls ?
Have the same issue
I have the same issue SeempJService stopped for any apps in work profile. Did anyone find a solution to this?
