Ok, I guess quite a few of us are now usig the MDA/XDA II and have made our experiences.
I think it is time to start collecting the different bugs and "features", so that maybe the guys here can start fixing them. Maybe even O2/T-Mobile or HTC might startt doing something.
I'll start with my contributions:
1) SMS: The SMS-Application doesn't copy the "+" from the phone number when you select through the contacts application. See also: http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3198
2) Bluetooth: Right now, this seems to work mostly as a marketing gag, considering the very limited profiles supported. The list of missing profiles keeps getting longer, including HFREE, PAN and others. In fact, it might make sense to collect the experiences of successful bonds in a dedicated thread.
3) BT-Headset: Even when it does work, the performance is shaky s you can see here: http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3548
4) Phone On/Off: Turning the phone on/off seems to have gotten less user friendly than on the old MDA. Now you always need to get out your stylus, which can be quite a hassle when you are standing at the gate getting on a plane - with your suitcase in the other hand. See also: http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3553
5) Google: Ok, this seems to be a problem on almost all WM2003 devices when I look at all the suff on the web about this issue. Still, it would be nice if it would work
6) Wireless Modem: Well, you would expect that they include the driver on the CD wouldn't you.
7. The MDA II closes open programms as soon as you open another large programm. Like a device with no memory. You cannot keep large programms open at the same time (e.g. Pocket Informant, PIE, Total Commander, aso.) , so they would be accessible more quickly if you choose them over an taskmanager.
Have a look at this, it would tell you something about this "closingbug":

Xda USB Modem driver
The USB modem driver *is* on the disk. There are no drivers for Serial, Bluetooth on Infrared.
ANyway, the infrared requires a public domain add-on to work...
Hi
It seems that my XDA II turns on spurious ( not often, but sometimes), which is not nice when having it in my pocket.
Does anyone has the same experince ?
Not sure if this could be considered a bug, but I have yet to be able to receive a video MMS sent by either a P800 or a Nokia 7650. Have successfully sent one to a 7650 though. On the UK O2 network.
sorry could not post a link !
but here is a hummdinger !
try the following hit the "Wireless" icon and note how long it takes for the dialogue box to pop up then hit the "Turn the radio off" hotspot.. You will notice much longer delays before it performs the task, the same happens when you have switched it off and then attempt to "Switch the radio on". A further prob is with the Volume control....do the following...call your voicemail "long" press the green phone key, now when the speakerphone is on , reduce the volume with the side "Slider" when it is at minimum try to increase it...it don’t work you can only use the stylus on the screen, if you allow, after reducing the volume, the dialog to disappear then try to increase the volume with the slider it works again, then if with the dialogue displayed you then end the call the dialogue will appear to be stuck on screen, and only disappear after about 10 secs...

same here. happens all the time and that´s not funny. Called O2 Tech Support and they said (of course) that i´m the first to report that problem. can´t really believe that.
it´s very annoying

Have you turned on the homezone indicator? Everytime your mobile phone changes the cell, the homezone indicator updates itself, causing the XDA to turn on.

I also have the problem of not being able to recieve a video MMS from a 7650, I phoned o2 support on Tuesday and they said they would look into it and call me back on Wednesday, Well its now Saterday and i have not had a call back from them. Its good to see they sill use the same calender where next day means we dont have a answer so we wont bother to call you back

Buffer full / crash on transcriber/Notepad
8.) Buffer full / crash on transcriber/Notepad
Waring: Maybe you should do a backup before you try this....
How to cause:
- Go to Notpad
- Change to "Transcriber"-recognition
- Start to enter by writing normal letter/words: >> ok, works
- Try to "fill/paint the whole Screen" without (!) removing the pen from screen: After some seconds the Buffer will be full, constant Signal will apear if you touch the screen again
- Regognition won't work anymore
How to resolve the "full buffer" (seems to be the reason for me):
- Soft reset, okay
BUT:
- Xda2 behaves unstable afterwards.
You might get messages like this:
"camera.exe is not a valid apllication"
"media player is not a valid apllication"
So you need a "hard reset" with all the data gone.
(Maybe a sync is still possible - I didn't try this yet)
Okay, maybe not a Killer-Bug.
But now it's impossible to hand over the xda2 to my friends cause' they know how to "kill" my pda
Don't know is it's a xda2-specific bug or caused by OS.

3 bugs?: text colour, letter recogniser, transciber
Great PDA - I've had an XDA for a few days and have been using it extenisvely (having had an iPAQH3850 for 2 years). The power of having a combined PDA, phone & camera/video is great. However, I've got a couple of problems. Anyone else had them or know how to fix them? (soft reset doesn't help- I haven't tried a hard reset yet):
1) Funny coloured text: some of the letters on the screen are brown rather than black. In particular the following letter combinations: 'in' and 'll'
2) 'Ghost' characters in 'Letter recogniser' mode. I write quickly using 'Letter recogniser' mode. Sometimes a grey outline of the character I've drawn stays for a fraction longer than I'd expect so that I end up writing the next character over the previous character. More noticeable in the 'numbers/special charcters' section on the right of the letter recogniser window.
3) Change of font/script when correcting words in 'Transciber' mode. The transciber mode is not bad at recognising my handwriting scrawl. However, if a word is interpreted incorrectly and I highlight the word and then rewrite the word, the new interprtation appears lowerdown on the line than the rest of the text (like MS Word's 'subscript')

But it is still a bug and I hope they intend to fix it, as it is rather interessting to know if I have contact to my homezone or not.
Hi
Got an other one. The alarm function seems not to work reliable. First I thought I missed the alarm due to much drinks the evening before but this morning I woke up before, but no alarm from my XDA. Instead when I turn the XDA on manually, it notified me about the alarm.
I also noticed it with a meeting.
I don't need an alarm clock I have to turn on manually...
btw... Is there some action to fix the reported bugs... either O2 or M$
new annoying bug
OK I just had a new REALLY annoying bug happen last night.
First i found that GPRS kept dialing up every time i diconnected it - i thought it must have been because ie was open in the background so i went and closed all runing programs but it still kept dialling up GPRS whenever i disconnected.
Then I received an sms but when i viewed it in Inbox, the parts of the stripy background that are usually white where really dark grey making it almost impossible to read anything on the screen... so i decided it was time for a soft reset.
but instead of soft resetting it did a hard reset so I've now got to re-install everything!!!!! :x
Pope,
The GPRS dial up could be to do with your network settings. In fact an awful lot of issues where the PDA switches on for no reason are probably that.
I've always found 'interesting' problems with ActiveSync where it switches on the PDA periodically (it's nothing specific to the XDA II as it also happened with the Fujitsu Loox and the Viewsonic V37). I always 'close' activesync (using vBar) when I'm not using it for this reason!
I recently spent ages with the XDA II trying to get it not to switch on after I'd set up a blue tooth link with my laptop. Had to change some of the network settings to stop it (but can't remember what) ... even 'resetting' the PDA hadn't fixed the problem.
re
Pope, I too have had a Hard Reset occur without knowingly doing it.
As far as I am aware I did not press the power on off button, when I soft reset, and it just did a hard reset.
I was having problems with an app that froze though, and just figured it was that.
Anyone else expereienced this ?
Cheers, Shire
I installed the upgrade at www.clubimate.com
Some noticeable changes after the upgrade:-
Fast switchoff of the phone, though u still have to use the stylus
The missed call red blink of the LED stays red (at least for the few minutes I checked) instead of turning back to green after a minute as in the past
The + in SMS is added when chosing from the contacts menu. I think this was a problem in the past
I had difficulty in installing SanDisk Wi-Fi software in the previous version. Went smoothly on the upgraded one.
membership??
I tried to sign up but I don't have the EMI whatever # ... any chance you can e-mail me this fix software?
[email protected]
I have the following 2 problems and wonder if anyone else have BOTH problems on the SAME device ?
screen misalignment
freezing while charging.
Freezing every 3 screenclicks in TomTom 5 (and 6)
I have those (TT6) on the Vario 2 +
1) Landscape/portrait confusion sometimes - maybe a bad keyboard slider contact
2) ActiveSync doesn't always realise the device is connected
3) ...
Owned it for 2 weeks so far & still think it's pretty good.
Backlight settings (under battery power), when changed from default setting of 10secs, changes right back to 10secs.
Slow to pick up and hang up (up to 2secs each)
Changing screen orientation while entering info (calendar or contact) loses its focus so you have to click the entry again to regain focus.
Update Library... doesn't work for storage cards. Have to remove the MSMETADATA folder on the card to get it to update.
Misses key presses at random
Drops signal at random, and therefore calls.
The list is endless.

Actually no, I would stick with the Wizard any day (with the latest rom and overclocking).
I'd love this Hermes to work, but as long as it has all these damn problems it's more hassle than it's worth.
The term "bleeding edge" has never been more appropriate for me, it's still a beta product.

every one should stick with their wizard!. i had tytn for 3 days and my head was blowing! to many problems.
but don't forget that there isn't decent pda/phone around.

This one I've isolated to phones which have been restored from a backup made with SPB's Backup.
Hi all. I am new to the forums (although have been lurking some weeks) so a big hello to everyone.
I have a few issues with my hermes/tytn (a T-Mobile Vario II). A bit of background: I have installed and upgraded latest radio, bootloader, and LVSW to the device. It has a 2gig SanDisk MicroSD.
After my fifth soft reset today, I feel it is time to ask a few questions
1. My device keeps crashing. When I load contacts, slide the keyboard out, use internet explorer... pretty much anything. It seems intermittant so is hard to pin point. Is this what having the latest software entails? or is there something seriously wrong somewhere? My initial thought was that it must be something i've installed running in the background. All I had was spb weather and spb GPRS monitor. I have uninstalled both to no avail.
2. LVWS doesn't come with a task manager. I understand that this was due to problems with the default/MS one. That's fine, no problems. But after I open 5 or 6 programs -- bearing in mind my device seems already prone to crashing, it really bugs me that they are still open even though I have pressed the 'X'. Does everyone just deal with this? Am I the only person that wants their software to close when it's told? (i have tried iLauncher, that has working 'Close' buttons, but I dont like it).
3.I was just talking on the phone over wm6's built in voip client and the damn thing put itself in sleep mode. This killed the conversation. I press the power to get the phone back to life and it lights up but is frozen. You might say this is because the voip is a new feature, but i'm pretty sure it has happened on a regular voice call. Any ideas?
4.Is there anything similar to windows' Wireless Zero Config? I want to be able to walk around a town and be notified when an open AP is found. I would also like to be asked if I want to connect to it. Am I asking too much?
If there's nothing available, is there a market or a need for this? I am a programmer for a living so could probably create something...
5.My alarm does not go off. I presume this is because the damn thing puts itself in sleep mode. Any solutions bar turning off sleep?
6.I used to have a bunch of little squares/icons of recently used programs on the top of the start menu. These appear in horzontal mode (keyboard slid out) but not vertical. They used to appear for both modes.
OK. So there's my list of annoyances. Any solutions would be GREATLY appreciated. I am a first time PDA owner and I *think* I am converted. When this device is working it's great, i love it.
Many thanks,
AP

1) Sometimes it takes more than a minute to fix gps.
2) Sometimes while pressing home button and hold it opens recent apps and freeze a while.
3) Sometimes Facebook app goes crazy and can't control it.
4) Sometimes it's calling and need to unlock to answer the call.

hi, abt your questions,
1) works flawlessly on mine
2)this is the normal scenario on android, long pressing the home button gets u to all ur recent apps. what do you mean by freezing?
3)please explain the facebook thing....
4) when u place a call, there is nothing special. when receiving a call, u will have to either swipe right or left( screen is same as lockscreen) but with options to answer or to reject.
sincerely i have not experienced any ''bugs'' u mentioned above. my guess is that u are not used to android and u r interpreting some of its features as 'bugs'.
1) Not only can't fix gps signal easy also cell and 3g signal is lost a lot.
2) I mean when a long press to return home, instead it open recent apps a turn off the home button so I can't do anything except to touch one of recent apps.
4) It happened twice with me when I was receiving a call the lockscreen aks me the pin code.

You know, i'm very disapointed with gingerbread. It's unfinished with a lot of bugs.
Did you see the issues list at code.google?
I'm wondering if Apple also works like that launching ios versions with a lot of bugs.
Releasing software riddled with bugs is more or less commonplace nowadays, and that's not going to change. So get used to it. And everybody does it, even the QC whores at Apple. If you think these bugs are bad, you should try playing a modern-day shooter video game on a console.

My gps is working better here than any other phone I've used. It got a fix on my location in the back passenger seat of a moving car yesterday. Was awesome!
I've encountered the inbound call issue twice now. Heres the sequence for me:
1. User calls..
2. I go to slide to unlock..
3. Nothing happens...
4. Try again...
5. Nothing happens...
6. Lock screen
7. Unlock (pattern unlocker for me)
8. Eureka it Works! (Finally call answered).
...Very odd.
I know it's my imagination but, I swear, it's as if this phone has it in for me. Every time I want to show my friends something on my phone, it lags, or glitches, or freezes, or even once it just rebooted by itself. And you can forget about showing people a photograph in the gallery -- most of the time, you're just standing there holding your phone for upwards of a minute before photo albums will load. And then, if you're really having fun, it'll open the wrong photographs.
Just one of many embarrassing scenarios that can happen with this phone. Gingerbread Glitch-train, making all stops.
I had a issue with the home screens, swyping from one to another became very slow. So I went to apps in execution and stopped the launcher then back to normal, odd...
Also, I had the difficult trying to unlock the phone to receive a call, but it was a minor one.

Taking more than a min to find a GPS signal doesn't mean anything...satellites move
resetting/shutting down phone will reset GPS data and might take longer to get fix and also depends on available sats where u are located and might take longer
If everything you mentioned were bugs we all would have them and its not the case...have you tried restoring and if so IDK maybe return phone
Is anyone else seeing the Internet Connection Unstable notification frequently? I'm getting it at home and at work, on 802.11n and .11ac. At home the connection is not unstable, new RT-AC66U router (standing next to a PC getting full 1.3gb connection). Have a Note 2 that I never saw this notification once on. Also have never seen this notifcation on my work network with the Note 2, and have with the 3. It also seems to pop up that message even when I have 3 or 4 bars on the connection.
I saw another post about weak cell signal on someone's 3. Anyone else experiencing these notifications regularly, when they should have a strong connection? Should I try to get my phone replaced?
Thanks!

Hm. Well that's promising that it's not my particular phone - and that it may not have existed in android 4.1.x on the Note 2.

I contacted Samsung and they had me perform a cache reset that seems to have cleared up the intermittent unstable internet connection issues;
-Power the device off (remove and re-insert the battery).
-Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
-When the device vibrates; release only the Power key while still holding the other two keys.
-When the Android system recovery menu displays; release the Volume Up and the Home key.
-Navigate with the Volume keys to the "wipe cache partition" option and press the Power key to select.
-Wait for the cache is cleared. While reboot system now is highlighted, press the Power key and reboot the device.
Hopefully this works for you as well.

I had the same problems last couple days with this same issue. Today I used HTC one and left note 3 on desk off all day and back on note and Wi-Fi tonight and no issues at all flawless. Don't know if having it off all day helped or something but hope it doesn't come back lol

I've also been getting this. It's definitely the handset and NOT the WiFi as it happens at my home as well as my parent's home (both of which NEVER had any signal/droppage).

The notification was driving me crazy! The only way I was able to temporarily get rid of it is by disabling mobile data while connected to WiFi. For obvious reasons, that could hardly be considered a solution. Accessing the service menu (*#0011#), turning off WiFi power save mode, and rebooting didn't help, so I was planning to return this amazing device.
However, tpaquette, after trying your solution, everything seems to be resolved! Wiping the cache partition did the trick!
Just wanted to report that and say thanks.

The cache clear was a very temporary fix for us. Worked for part of the day. We have been a 5 iphone family for 6 years now and were all switching to the note 3. We already upgraded 2 but these are going back and we will have iphones again. Maybe next year with the Note 3.
I'm on the other side of this coin... for the past 2 years I've had several devices here at home and they all have worked OK with my home wifi... but with this Note3 I get the unstable notification several times a day... After doing some serious monitoring of my Internet connection I've found out my Internet actually IS unstable and the Note3 is advanced enough to let me know about it... what seems to be happening is my upload speed drops down to, or almost to, zero now and then and that's when the notification pops up... and i appreciate that because it's let me know I have a problem and helped me track it down.
so... that being said... Thank you Note3 for showing me my problem ... BUT ... would be nice to have the option to turn off the notification now that I know what is happening while I decide on what to do for a fix or maybe decide to just ride with it for awhile until I switch to another provider.
Note: it's not your device glitching in that causes this... it's your internet... and your other devices don't have the feature that let's you know you lost your up/down link for a few seconds... seems kinda sensitive though because under most circumstances, small glitches like this that go unnoticed aren't a problem anyway... that's why we have buffering.

No that is not the case when all of my other wireless devices like our remaining iPhones, laptops, DVR, Smart TV stream online content without issue. I can stream on any of these devices from across the house without receiving the first buffer message, yet the Note 3 will give unstable network messages and buffer multiple times while standing in the same room as the router. If this is a case of advanced features on the Note 3, its the Note 3 detecting its own poor WiFi performance.
Here's my Internet speed on my N3 and get that message also. Mostly while I'm recording a HD move or downloading a on demand movie for my direct tv. Also when streaming Netflix to my ps3.
I haven't had this issue but I cant help but wonder if there is some commonality between the router settings.
I'd first do two things, change thd channel of my router and give my device a static dsn and see where that gets me.
Then I'd play with my a/b/g/n output and ghz settinngs to see what it likes best.
If you are getting strong download speeds with an unstable connection it would seem to point to chatter or interference on the ghz spectrum. In example a motherboard or cordless phone placed too closly to the router will cause some interference. And ofcourse our samsungs which use newer 802.11ac can be pretty picky/confused with the input.
Heres a bit of reading. http://www.anadigics.com/news/press...owered_anadigics_wifi_and_cellular_solutionsI
It seems the Note 3 more thoroughly monitors your Wifi connectivity such as latency. I know when I peg out my internet connection downloading something on another device and the latency increases as a result the Note 3 will pop up that notification. No big deal since it's just informational and can be ignored.
I get that almost every time I walk from my barn to my house. In that fringe area where it's detecting the wifi signal and locks in it doesn't seem to like the signal fluctuations. I disregard the alert and everything is fine. I think Samsung needs to increase the time before it complains about poor signal lock, or just not ***** at all!

It seems the Note 3 more thoroughly monitors your Wifi connectivity such as latency. I know when I peg out my internet connection downloading something on another device and the latency increases as a result the Note 3 will pop up that notification. No big deal since it's just informational and can be ignored.

If you turn off your mobile data, the WiFi notifications stop. So it can't be anything to do with the WiFi signal. I think that there are apps that try to use the mobile data, and when they can't, throw out those notifications.

The cache clear was a very temporary fix for us. Worked for part of the day. We have been a 5 iphone family for 6 years now and were all switching to the note 3. We already upgraded 2 but these are going back and we will have iphones again. Maybe next year with the Note 3.

That's unfortunate. I'm surprised that solution only helped your situation temporarily as it has completely fixed the problem for many others, myself included. Anyone else tried it, only to have the notification come back?
Also, I cringe at the thought of you going back iPhones. I wouldn't wish that dreadful experience on my worst enemy.
Just thinking about it makes me nauseous...

I contacted Samsung and they had me perform a cache reset that seems to have cleared up the intermittent unstable internet connection issues;

Did this wipe any of your data? Did you have to re setup your device?

Going to have to keep an eye on it because I'm pretty sure I had a few devices including the Note 3 on WIFI to download large 1GB+ apps and also when broadband drops out. Notifications seems to be accurate so far.
