Hi all,
In Pocket PC , it allows u to switch between PAP or CHAP authentication in GPRS connection setting. This option help solve GPRS connection problem at some provider.
Sadly, I can not find any setting like that when using smartphone with 2005 Windows OS (ronswen 4.1). Anyone know how to access to this setting please help me. I can not access GPRS any more since switching from Mpx220 to XphoneIIm, and I tried all possibilities but no help, some one hint that need PAP authentication (because CHAP auth. seems default setting)
Thank you 4 yr attention

Hi guys,
Is any wizard user in delhi (India) using airtel as service provider?
The problem i'm facing is that i'm not able to send/recieve MMS messages on my O2 mini s.
I've tried contacting airtel people and they just gave me the settings they have in their book, But after various efforts it's not working.
The GPRS and rest of the things like sms, mail etc are working fine.
Here are the settings they gave me
Server Name : Airtel MMS
Gateway : 100.1.201.172
Port : 9201
Server Address : http://100.1.201.171:10021/mmsc
Connect using : GPRS
If anyone is using some other settings or if there is something that i'm missing then please lemme know.

Same problem once upon a time.
But I have found that I was able to sucessfully send an MMS at night. I mean very late night or early morning I should say. When I asked the helpdesk, they told me that I happen to be in a network congested area. But then she was kind enough to give a reset on my profile which took me out of the network for a couple of minutes. When I was latched again, viola !!! no problems !!
Try that.!
By the way, what speeds do you get ? I get an excellent speed in Mumbai on Airtel than on Orange. Orange sucks real bad these days.
Hi araje,
Thanks for the reply. I've tried the resetting thing also but it was of no use.
Anyway I've found out the solution to this problem. Actually the GPRS settings that we use, has got the problem. Here's what i did ...
I created a new GPRS connection with the name MMS ( Cellular line (GPRS)).
gave the access point as airtelmms.com
In the advanced tab use "server assigned IP address", and enable the box "Use Ip header compression".
Now comes the real part...... in the servers tab, use "specific server address" and specify DNS as 100.1.201.172 and press OK.
Now to use the MMS part u go to connection settings, connect using this new connection and u'll be able to send and recieve MMS with out any problems.
For browsing and all use the other (ur normal) GPRS connection.
Though switching between connections is a pain in the a** but as i don't use MMS too much, it's ok for once in a while.
Well, Airtel provides EDGE connection in delhi (that's what my phone indicates me  ), but when i use it to download something on my pc it gives me a speed of 4-5 Kbps. Though it is not good to surf on pc (anyway i use broadband at home and work), but is good enough to work on my wizard.
Also i cannot complain about it coz i get it for 99 bucks a month ... so what else could u expect

Hey Vineet,
Are you able to connect to Airtel Live ?
From the website here are the settings. I have been able to set some stuff but points 8,9,10-14 are tricky. I tried following your settings you used for mms but didnt help. Any idea how to set this ?
1 Connection Name: Airtel Live!
2 Data Bearer: GPRS
3 Access Point Name: airtelfun.com
4 Username: MSISDN e.g. 91982xx xxxxx
5 Prompt Password: No
6 Password: < blank >
7 Homepage: http://live.airtel.in
8 Connection Security: Off
9 Session Mode: Permanent
In case of the WAP 2.0 complaint phones, the following extra settings need to be done:
Under Options > Advanced Settings
10 Phone IP Address: Automatic
11 Primary name server: 0.0.0.0
12 Second. Name server: 0.0.0.0
13 Proxy server. address: 100.1.200.99
14 Proxy port number: 8080
hey what phone are you using??
i've mentioned the settings for wizard (O2 mini s), iguess others will also have similar settings.... try that and let me know...
I am using Qtek9100 with AKU rom.
The new connection I created was exactly on your lines.

I set most of the stuff based on the way you created your connection. But how did you specify the port 9201. In my case I put the server ip mentioned in point13 in the DNS entry. But there isnt anyway to enter the port number.
Are you able to use the airtel live website ? Also one thing is that my Airtel mobile office works perfect since I dont have to enter any advance settings. Just the APN, and no userid/password. However, the airtel live website doesnt load with this connection. I use it mainly for laptop.
Thanks for your help in advance

Airtel Karnataka MMS settings
Those of us who have approached Airtel for help in configuring MMS on Windows Mobile devices know that their very competent customer service reps are blissfully unaware of the existence of Windows Mobile OS leave alone its variants like WM 5, WM 6 and 6.1. Ans when they direct one to their 'special GPRS helpdesk' the special GPRS guys haven't heard of anything newer than WM 5 because they attempt to walk one through the WM 5 UI.
Well to avoid calling Airtel, activate the MMS service on your account by sending a text message MMS ACTV to 222. Once the service is active, do not ask for MMS settings to be sent over the air as Windows Mobile doesn't accept OTA settings. Instead key-in the settings yourself:
MMS Settings for the Sony Ericssson X1i (Xperia)
Windows Mobile 6.1
1. Tap Start -> Settings
2. On the Settings screen tap on the Connections tab
3. Tap the Connections icon
4. Tap Manage Existing Connections
5. Tap on New to create a new data account
6. Type-in AirtelMMS or MMS under Enter a name for the connection
7. Choose Celular Line (GPRS, 3G) from the drop-down list under Select a modem
8. Tap Next
9. Type-in airtelmms.com under Acess point name
10. Tap Next
11. Leave the username, password and all other fields blank
12. Tap Finish
If there is more than one data connection configured on the Manage Existing Connections page, please ensure that the radio button beside Auto Pick is selected.
Tap OK to exit and tap OK once again to return to the main settings page.
Tap Start -> Messaging
Tap SMS \ MMS
Tap Menu -> MMS Options
Place a check mark beside the following:
• Save sent messages
• Allow delivery Report
• Allow Read report
Set the Retrieval mode to Auto
Set the Attempts before giving up to 3
Tap on Servers
Tap New
Under Server Name enter AirtelMMS or MMS
The Gateway should be set to 100.1.201.172
The Port number should be set to 8799
Enter http://100.1.201.171:10021/mmsc under server address
Under Connect Via, please choose the name of the data account created in step 6 above
Choose 100K as the send limit
And set the WAPVersion to WAP 2.0
Tap Done
Tap OK to return to SMS \ MMS

Hello!
I own a htc diamond and want to access a wifi network that's using a HTTP proxy. I can connect to the network itsself. However, the proxy settings aren't applied or sometimes deleted when I disactivate and reactivate wifi. When I try it at home, it can still access the internet even if I set the proxy server. (I don't have a proxy server at home, so it shouldn't work then...)
With a iPod Touch/iPhone the following settings work:
Server: server-01.hak-reutte.ac.at
Port: 8080
I also have to authenticate using an username and password, but I think there's also a web form so it's not necessary to configure that in the proxy configuration.
Thank you,
Simon

If you use ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Centre verify the connection settings are NOT set to automatic. If they are then the Proxy settings are overwritten each time you connect to your PC to sync. If you want to use a proxy over WiFi then you need to make sure your 'Work' connection settings specify the proxy and you need to configure the WiFi settings to 'Connects to Work' (or whatever it says, but NOT 'Internet').
Andy
Hi ADB100!
Thanks for your answer. The problem occurs even when I'm not connected to ActiveSync. Somehow the proxy server is reset when the WLAN is used. I tried the application WmWifiProfiles, but the problem is still there. When I set the proxy server and exit the settings application, the settings for HTTP proxy are somehow not saved. (When I reopen the settings dialog, the http proxy setting is blank, but the proxy for socks is still there.)

Simon

Do you have proxy auto-discovery on?
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
EnableAutoDetect=00000001
If its set to 1 then proxy auto-discovery is enabled, 0 is disabled.
I have no idea if it is this but worth a shot?
Andy
Hi ADB100!
AutoDetect wasn't acticated. (The key didn't exist.) I tried creating the key with value 0 and 1, but didn't help.
I think this must be a bug, because there are a lot of topics about this problem. Unfortuntatly, nobody seems to have a solution for this problem .
I tried changing the registry keys in HKLM/Comn/ConnMgr/Providers/. That worked, because the internet connection was dead then . I think it's possible to work around the problem by changing this keys. I will try that next week and when that really fixes the problem, I'll probably release an application for it.
However, do have some ideas left?
Thanks,
Simon
Bizarre....
I have never seen this on any of the Windows Mobile PDA's I have had.
I know if the connection settings: 'This computer is connected to:' are set to anything other than 'Automatic' then it resets any proxy you configure. I have mine set to 'Work Network' and the settings are never overwritten. I use a proxy at home and remember playing around with these settings as I had similar issues initially.
I know there is a known issue of the 'Hidden Proxy' if you let the device configure itself using the 'Connection Setup'. I have never let my device do this and have manually configured the HSDPA/GPRS settings.
Andy
Hi ADB100!
I've also aborted the connection setup, cause I didn't want my device to use HSDPA automatically.
I'm not 100% sure but I think my old device (HTC S730) had also some problems with the proxy, but I was able to solve them. Maybe it's also a problem with my ROM.
How stable/fast are the current RC builds of 6.5? Are they ready for every day use?
Thank you,
Simon

I haven't tried any 6.5 ROMs for any period of time as they all seemed too buggy. I am on an almost stock 5.2.19212 ROM that I have lightly customised in a kitchen and I am happy with it.

This is really annoying... When you search the forums for "wifi proxy" you'll get more than 10 threads with the same problem, but without a solution.
You are using a wifi router with proxy at home and it works, right?
I'll upgrade to 6.5 now, maybe this fixes the problem...
Thanks,
Simon

Yes, I have MS ISA 2006 and it works.....
Truely amazing. I've upgraded to 6.5 and the problem is still there :-(. I've the radio from the latest official diamond rom. Could an other radio fix the problem?
//edit: Just to describe my problem further: When I set the proxy, exit the dialog and reopen the dialog, the proxy is there. When I open the internet explorer then, the http proxy gets deleted. However, the socks proxy is kept. This is kind of frustrating...
Thanks,
Simon
Read this one: http://www.htc.com/www/faqs.aspx?p_id=13&cat=0&id=36792 According to this article wifi + proxy should not work. What can I do now?
// Update: This looks extremly promising: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1990412#post1990412 I'll try that immediatly and post the results. If that works, I'll build an application to simplify applying the fix.
Thanks,
Simon
My status is too. Please help me!
It's a bug, that's sure. I finally got the proxy working, but after reconnecting the proxy settings were blank again .
Just to let you know I was also having problems with proxies and a google led me to this thread. For me, the advice in post 2 worked perfectly. I am using a 6.5 rom on a Touch HD.
Hi SivEd!
Did you also have the problem that your proxy settings get reset when you reconnect to the wifi network?
I've written an app that resolves this issue, let me know if you want to test.
Hi Anks!
Please upload your app, this is a real problem for me.
Thanks,
Simon
Simon, sent you a PM.
The problem seems to be fixed in recent Windows Mobile 6.5 builds, at least for me. I'm using build 21812. Unfortunatly, proxy authentification seems not to work in Opera. In Internet Explorer a dialog appears where I have to enter my username and password. Opera doesn't display such a dialog. But the main problem (proxy setting gets deleted) has been resolved.

Simon
Hi all,
I have an HTC Dream branded TIM, which I can use for internet access with the APN settings provided by my operator.
I could also use a different APN which requires username/password authentication but up to know I was not able to use it with my phone.
(Yes, I am already aware of the usage of the "APN type" field in order to instruct the phone which APN profile to use )
I suspect it is an authentication-related issue because in the APN configuration of the DREAM I cannot define any configuration related to the authentication method (PAP, CHAP, etc.).
My phone is rooted (JF1.5): can you hint me to understand:
1) which log I can read in order to check why I cannot get the connection with the APN
2) which shell command I can use to try to verify the networking configuration binded with the APN: IP address, DHCP, DNS, ...
3) how I can set the authentication used when connecting to the APN
Thanks for your help, experts!

Hi barban, I have the same problem as you, and unfortunately don't have any solution yet.
Did you finally solve your problem?
Hey everyone!
i was just wondering if there is any way to enable wap for applications in x10?
we can only use the main browser through wap...!
we can't use timescape or facebook or ebuddy or marketplace, track id or any other application.
any solution for this?
Thanks
By WAP you mean GPRS connection right? I'm using it for everything except Youtube when WiFi off
Have you set the GPRS setting? Or just do auto settings under mobile network settings?
I read on an other forum that there were people who had the same problem.
As I like to buy the x10, I'm really curious what might cause this. Unfortunally I haven't got a reaction on my question.
So I you find a solution, can you post it here?
Thx

no, by wap i mean wap. Gprs is a complete different thing. In my country GPRS service cost 25$ for 250mb only.
wap is already unlimited for 5$ only. And i was using wap connection on my iphone (browser, opera mini, push/email, ebuddy, marketplace/itunes).
Now i cant use WAP with any of these applications! only the default browser is enabled. any solution ? :s
GPRS is a connection type, like WCDMA or CSM.
WAP is more like HTML, a data type. The default android browser can't display WAP formatted pages.
Do you mean dial up internet?
Wap is a gprs connection that uses a proxy server with a port: 80 or 8080
it is clear now ?

If you are with Rogers would you mind giving me a hand how to set it up for WAP on the default browser? Just a list of the settings will do. I tried different APN settings from various online sources and the settings from my old W810 but I couldn't even get browsing to work! I tried setting Opera Mini to use HTTP instead and of course nothing works. The unlimited browsing only plan I have is simply a waste at the moment. Thanks!
EDIT: after trying a few things I was able to get the default browser working... but no, the other apps don't work with WAP... not even if I set Opera Mini to use HTTP.
ok, i was having this problem too and i found a way around it.
you have to go to your APNs and edit the APN you are using.
go to the port tag (should be labeled as 80) and erase it making it blank.
save>restart your phone, everything should work fine.

Tried this and only the default browser works...
I have experienced the same issues as described above,
if the default browser is working correctly however stand alone apps fail it may be the APN used has restrictions disabling the use of non-browser data traffic, commonly networks will have a minimum of 3 APNs, e.g WAP, MMS, and Internet.
On this basis I would recommend you ask you provider for the details of thier internet APN (commonly used when using your phone as a modem or email account access) and test accordingly.. if everything works this would confirm restrictions are in place, and a requirement to use an unrestricted APN for full functionality.
As noted different APNs may have differnt charging structures, hence the limitations sometimes when using wap apn access.

The port for my APN (Japanese version) was left blank by default, but I couldn't access my hosted email and website on the X10. Every other website and email worked fine. When I added 80 as the port, I can now access my hosted email and website without a problem.
I'm happy that this seems to have fixed it, but does anybody know why setting the port to 80 worked for me but gave problems for others?
had simualr problem ... calt my x1 support they said that i need to turn on roaming and then it workt .. this is becouse i use tele2 and they dont have there own network they only rent it from netcom so you need to turn on roaming that can be found in settings >wirreles network>mobile network (can have aother name ..my mobile is in norwegiang .. )try that,
I recently acquired an HD2 that is locked to T-Mobile. I am using a "Rebel Sim" to allow me to use an O2 sim card, however, I am unable to connect to the internet without Wi-Fi.
I have looked around the next, and even email O2 direct, and nothing they say is helping. I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to fix this problem.
Sorry if this post has already been asked, I searched the first 40 pages in the General Forum, and found similar aspects, nothing that answers correctly.
Thanks for your help

Ok, so i tried the link, and it now works, yay, however i can only update the whether?
I assume that the mobile internet must be working cos it has a counter as well, logging how much time i spend on there, any further ideas?
sorry to be a pain.
What's not working for you then Callum ?
Basically, I have set up the internet, so I am now able to update the whether without Wi-FI, however, I am still not able to use the web-browser without Wi-FI.
go to settings menu all settings connections connections advanced select networks. In there it lets you set the default connection for different types of apps. try the different connections, see what works. You may find it is trying to default to an old connection from when the phone was locked, who knows.
