In order to save cache files and downloaded files directly to
Storage Card:
Copy Paste opera.ini to Application Data/Opera
Copy Paste home.html to Application Data/Opera/startpage
p.s.
Cache files will be stored in \Storage Card\Application Data\Cache4
Downloaded files will be stored in \Storage Cards

Installing a *.cab file in Storage Card?

Doesn't seem like I can install a *.cab file to storage card, when I open it, it will install automatically into main memory\program files
Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks
Use Cabinst to manage your CAB installations.
gr8, cheers mate
regestry change
whit a simple regestry change , it will ask you where to install it: folder,drive....
even if you do an istallation from active sync
And what is this simple registry change ?
Do tell .... don't keep it a secret
what is this change?
ok here it is:
Edit the regestry on the PPC:
\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\Microsoft Aplication Installer\
set fAskDest to "1"
if you like
Create the "Pogram Files" folder on the SD card on the root folder,
make sure that you have the ignore_my_docs file in the root driveof the SD card.
I install most of my program on the SD card.
hi alexk,
i m using mini O2. how do go to the registry by the way?
and all the programs can run from the SD card?
Pls advise..
thanks..
Cheers
 Chivas
I use Resco Explorer to edit my registry,
it includes the Resco Registry Editor ^^
alexk > Thanks for this tweak
chivas > If you want a freeware use this one PHM Registry Editor
Most programs can be run from SD card except Today Plugins
What is the benefit of running CAB's from our SD card? In otherwords, I don't have the foggiest clue what happens to a CAB once you run it apart from it installing the program etc.
A cab file is a way to install a progam.
So you can install this program wherever you want.
The benefit to install it on a SD Card is to liberate some RAM
Thanks for that
Why is this forum sooooooo sloooooow

Hi Alex, thanks for the tweak. But what do you mean by those meantioned above ? Are you saying that we can create a "Program Files" folder in SD card and install our program into it? What do you mean by root folder? Do I need to create a note pad file named as ignore_my_docs?

Calvin,
Root folder refers to the highest folder of the drive, the one where all the sub-folders reside... ie on your PC C:\
Be very carefull editing the registry, not recomended for a novice as one wrong move can leave you with a lot of trouble
Thanks for the info. I think there's nothing to do with registry in these tweak rite? For what I know from others forumer, the Ignore_my_documents file is inside the main memory. It serves the purpose whereby the ppc will ignore the "My Documents" inside the Sd card (if you created one) and only use the "My Documents" inside the main memory.
Same said they have deleted the Ignore_my_documents file in the main memory and therefore they can saved their files (themes and etc) into "My Documents" inside the Sd card in order to save some RAM.
My question is, do we need to create Ignore_my_documents file into Sd card if we are going to do so?

I've installed realplayer. I rebooted my wizard and upon reboot my storagecard has been renamed to storagecard2. therefore my shortcuts to programs installed on the storagecard do not run due to the 2. I've tried to rename the storagecard but it won't let me do it! any ideas how to force the rename back to its original?

Hi - yes this happened to me once - look in the root directory of the device there should be a folder called \storage card - probably empty and then your minisd card called storage card2. Delete the storage card folder - check first if there are any files in there, if so save them. Then soft reset and all should be well - no need to relabel your minisd card it will rename itself when you soft reset.

This happens if your device tries to write to the Storage Card when it isn't avaliable (either ejected or before the hardware is ready on boot). I had the happen several times when I was storing e-mail and temp files on my storage card.

Guys how did you fix this issue with tweaks2k2?
I have just tried 3.25 upgraded from 3.18 and it is now giving me this storage card2 issue... I havent changed any settings in tweaks2k2!
Any help would be appreciated... I have tried deleting the fake storage card dir and then resetting but still comes up with this problem... pls help.
Thanks.
Thanks guys! I was about to restore an old registry (which would not have helped) when I found this thread! Life saver!
Please guys and gals follow my articles - I've elaborated on the problem (and the solutions to it) several times; for example, at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/in...s_to_rename_itself_to_sd&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
I had the same problem and I had to perform full restore. Maybe could someone try to install the application to the main memory not on the card...

See if it will let you rename it then soft reset. It proberly wont let you delete it because there are some protected files in the folder.

Trinity Hacks/Registry - IExplorer to Storage Card

Hi all.
Can someone help me out...
I've tried to do this hack refered on the Tynt Wiki:
PocketIE Cache in storage card
Create these folders:
\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Temporary Internet Files
\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Cookies
\Storage Card\Pocket IE\History
Add the following registry keys, string data type:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]
"Cache"="\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Temporary Internet Files"
"Cookies"="\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Cookies"
"History"="\Storage Card\Pocket IE\History"
But i don't see any results. I've made the hack in reg, soft reset, but nothing.
Can someone help me out? Is there another way to do it?
Thx
I'm having the same problem.
With my Wizard changing the registry works, i.e. the storage card can be used for the cache files, but not so with the Trinity; so I would also like to know if anybody has figured out a solution for this?

But if I turn off the phone, then I can't use the Internet Explorer
Well seriously, it's not a matter of the registry update not being flushed; it simply doesn't work.
Try sktools and change history/cookies/cache folders. I've got them in storage card.
I tried sktools today, but when I ran it, in the settings for Cache, Cookies and History it showed me the settings that I had already created myself in the registry, so no luck here.
@sAnTeE, a question if you don't mind:
Did you ever verify for sure that the directories on your storage card are really being used as the actual storage for the files that are cached?
What I see is that if I delete the directories from the storage card, then they are created again the next time I start IE. So there is no doubt that IE is picking up the reg. settings that I made.
BUT when I look in the directories, they are empty, except for the Cache one, where there is a dir. named Content.IE5, which again contains 4 dirs with seemingly random names like 'A7QZKP01' etc.
These subdirs are where the cached files should be stored, but they are all empty!
Another thing I noticed just recently when I was fiddling with this, is that the actual dirs that are used for caching are in \Windows.
There are 3 dirs in \Windows: 'Temporary Internet Files', 'History' and 'Cookies', and these are the ones that are actually being used, not the ones that are in \Windows\Profiles\guest, which are the normal defaults.
Think I might have found the answer, or at least an answer for my own issues with this.
I have been using a FAT32 formatted 4GB card from Moby Memory, but just for the experiment I put in a 2GB Sandisk Ultra II card, deleted 'Temporary Internet Files', 'History' and 'Cookies' from \Windows, started IE and voila, the directories on the card was used for caching.
Put back the 4GB card, started IE and now the dirs in \Windows were created again and used for caching.
So apparently IE won't or can't use the 4GB card for caching.

I have just tried to replicate your problem. All seems fine. I have at least 20 apps installed and have no problem.
I copied a large amount of text from one word mobile document to another and saved as different file name.
I would check with something like SK tools: 1. the current memory and 2. the temp files.
I just tried this with an existing word file and copied all the text and pasted it back a dozen times (making about 200kbytes) and it saved instantly.

Memory problems in my jade

Hi need some help.
1. what is the defrence betwen program memory and storage memory.
i got on my jade 56% program memory and 91% storage memory.on the storage card i'm ok.
2. where can i see what files are in the storage memory as 91% is very high i dont understand whay it went up to 91% last a i saw it was around 60%.
most of my programes are in the storage card.
thanks in advance.
Storage Memory - The amount of memory allocated to data storage (pictures, notes, docs, music, .tmp etc)
Program memory - The amount of memory allocated to program storage.
Some programs load and build up hugh files in storage memory as time goes on, e.g. you tube. Do a clean up once in a while.
You can use file explorer (or TC or Resco) to see the files.
thank you azahidi
i have resco explorer but where can i fined under which folder/s i find files that i do not need. is there some application to do a clean up. any idea will help.
thanks again

One very good apps is Memory Maid (purchasable from i/net). You can also use some freeware apps e.g. ClenRAM and some others.

Resco should be able sort out the file size descending/ascending. Then it's up to your own judgement (need a bit of file mgmt experience). Anything that's outside \windows or \program folders are deletable if/when not required. Avoid meddling with files in \windows (if you're not familiar). even though some can be deleted (e.g some .wav files). Just to be save before deleting (if needed) copy the files to your SD Card in case you wrongly delete.
There's this file in my windows folder which is a massive 16MB, called "mxip_initdb" anyone know what it is?
