Hi, for some strange reason my wizard hangs at the boot screen some times after reseting after running spb backup. I have set spb to to a backup at 4am every alternate day so when i wake up in the morning i know my data is all backed up. It has worked fine for a while now but for some reason it just stays at the windows boot screen and when i wake up in the morning the battery is low It also happens sometimes when i regularly soft reset, and i found once the backlight turns off during reboot and i dont press a button to bring the backlight on it seems to hang then. Otherwise its fine. Its really quite frustrating because i use my wizard as an alarm clock and i was late to school today because it didn't go off because of this problem. Ive got oamp clock plus installed plus a few other tweaks but its never given me problems before. Its also a G4 wizard if that helps.
Thanks!!
you can always sell me your wizard
Install in main memory
Do you have it installed in main memory? I had this problem with an older version installed on the SD card. Moving it to main memory fixed the problem. Also, are you using the current version, which I think is 1.55
Its installed on the main memmory and i have version 1.12 build 2050. I think i might try 2 upgrade then and see what happens.
well i updated spb backup to the latest version and that doesnt seem to work. It now seems to freeze on the windows mobile screen on most soft resets, which are done from the os, ie installing a new program and being asked to soft reset..it freezes on that reset so i have to push the soft reset button. Is there any other options? i dont particularly want to do a hard reset as it would take me ages to tweak and install it all back up to scratch.

It doesn't sound to me like spb backup is actually the problem, if you can't install the program properly. I would recommend a hard reset. Since our system is working at the moment, you can be organized, copying setting files, my documents, etc. to the sd card. I can generally get back up and running with 95% of my tweaks after a hard reset in an hour. (It is worth keeping a file with program passwords, etc.) This is also a good time to upgrade your ROM, too. One flaw of Windows Mobile is that it doesn't uninstall programs properly, so that files get left. Eventually, a hard reset is a good idea to clean this stuff up.
By the way, an advantage of installing programs on the sd card is that they continue to work. Copy the shortcuts from windows/start menu onto the sd card and you can replace them without reinstalling. Most require reinserting the passwords, however. The programs that shouldn't go on the sd card are programs that (i) have a today plugin (ii) backup programs and other programs that have to perform a soft reset and continue to operate. SD cards don't start up right away coming out of a soft reset, so may not be available when needed in these instances.
Same with Sunnysoft Backup Manager
I have the same problem with SBM, both version 3 and 4. I did notice that it was hung up, I unplugged it and the backup started working. I do not know why, but it helped.
Alrighty then looks like ill have to do a hard reset. Is there a thread that will show me the right way to back up contacts etc and generally make a hard reset easier. I have a G4 wizard thats locked so im not so confident in upgrading my rom. Crossbow would be nice tho. I did manage to install spb back up to the main memmory on the ungrade but that didnt solve my problem. Oh well i guess its time to clean out ye old wizard on the weekend. Geez there goes my HSC.
Thanks.
Outlook
I sync with outlook, which preserves my contacts through a rom upgrade. If you upgrade the ROM you can't use the backup file -- contacts are stored in another form. I hear that it is possible to sync with Yahoo intellisync to the web, but I haven't personally tried it. In any case, syching seems to be the recommended means of saving that information. Don't forget to save your files, although those you can get from a backup.
FYI, I've been having the same problem (i.e., auto-backup, soft reset, FREEZE) since I installed the newest Faria ROM AKU 2.2.
The commonality, I think, might be the latest version of Omap Plus. There also seems to be a problem in general with this ROM of doing soft resets whilst USB is connected (which is how I do my nightly backups/resets).
If you haven;t done that hard reset yet, you might want to wait a day or two... I'll run some experiments tonight to see if Omap is the problem.
Alrightly ill wait, its wierd that it could be oamp clock plus as i have been using that for a while with no real problems. its only over clocked to 216mhz and that just makes it a bit more, lets say, perky than its regular clock speed. Im using OS 2.16... original I-mate Kjam rom on a G4 wizard. Im tossing up whether to pay 50 buks Aus. and get it unlocked, thats a fair amount of cash for some one who lives off bittorrent
I'd be surprised if OMAP is the problem
I've never had a problem with Omap. I'm using whatever came with Faria 3.3, which I assume is the latest. I've had one failed backup (it was only 48KB instead of the normal 5.5MB, so something failed) but otherwise no problems.
yeh, well ive been doing some more playing around with my phone and it just keeps stuffing up. I think its time to do a hard reset to clean out the junk n stuff. I think a G4 CID unlocking program is in the works that will be out soon. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293080 check out the pics.
Thanks.
Same problem here, also started out in February.. Unfortunately, can only offer my company for having this problem. I even tried a hard reset and then restore some old backup but with the same hanging... Windows Mobile really confuses me... I guess it is the "save to flash" thing that happens after a few seconds and not immediately.. Please keep me posted on your problem... I have been soft resetting almost 4 times a day daily since the start of February...
Sorry, no answers. OMAP Plus is fine.; for me, the problem seems to be being on the USB plug. SPB Backup works fine otherwise.
Well i could wait any longer, so i flashed with molskis G4 aku2.3 rom, i had to flash with wizard_love rom first to get the os upgraded but then flashed again with molskis to get the cuztomisations. all on a locked G4. Awsome. Its so fast now compared to before. And well i think it solved the problem as well. I think we should contiue this thread so as to find a solution other than reflashing, as i was up until 1am fixing it all up again.
Thanks!
duh... yup, I am still a newbie to flashing new roms...
Did you CID unlock your G4? ;-)
nah havent cid unlocked my G4, duno if it really worth the money. I think i can wait until the boys at the G4 unlocking project work something out. They always seem to. At least i think my G4 is locked, i bought it off a friend who i dont think even knew what sort of phone it was. ohh well im happy with my mollski.
I don't know but there is all these "I bricked my phone" thing going around with G4 wizards. I also considered Molski's but back off after reading all these negative responses...
Fair enough, i havent had any problems with molskis aku 2.3 rom and it has some nice customisations as well. i tell you what tho, my phone has never booted up qicker since i installed the molski rom. if only for that reason i would do it. were talking less than a minute, my older rom took ages.

I have worked for 2 days with the problem I am having guys and am havig no luck. I wouldn't create a post for this, but I've tried everything I know to do. Here's what is going on. I have an Htc Vogue/touch CDMA, thru alltel. I had to do a warranty exchange monday because the other screen died.
I started set it up, the exact same way , i mean identical , as the other one. After I installed everthing, I went back and installed the skins for apps like pcm keyboard, and s2u2 and so forth. I then started checking all my programs.. This is where it went wrong. s2p, s2v, and 2 other apps wont work correctly. I'm only worried about the s2 programs so heres what there doing. s2p will load. I used v0.39 like i have since the day it was released. But it keeps locking up. And at no certian point, just random places. I uninstalled and tried the newer v0.40, with the hot fix, and same thing. I tried version 0.38, and it works a little better, but still the same thing.
Now, s2v wont even come up. It installs , and is listed as always in the program files folder, but it wont start. When I try, it puts the titel "s2v" in the top bar on the phone for about 2 seconds, and goes away. I've tried 2 other versions of it as well.
I have done 4 hard resets, no help. I have completley cleared all programs off my storage card and replaced the programs with new downloads, and no help. And last , I even re installed the complete official ROM update from alltel , and that didn't even work.Nothing is different about this phone than the other one. Same programs, same ROM, same carrier, same number, and I'm setting them up Identical.
I keep all of my .cabs I use for my phone on my storage card so if I hard reset away from a pc, I can install faster than downloading each program. The only thing that was done different after the last time I set up my phone was I used Resco FILE EXPLORER to zip all of my files on my storage card, to save some room. I extracted them all right before setup of the new phone.
Somone please help me. Ive litteraly exercised every option , and you all are my last hope. If I can figure out whats up with these 2 apps, im sure it will fix the others as well. Other than this problem the phone is working perfect..... SO PLEASE GUYS,,,,, HELP ME!!!!
learn to use paragraphs...ppl wont read that...
ok i turned on my xv6800 today and it started out with 14 Mb ram and is slow as all hell i haven added or removed anything and resetting does nothing to help anyone having any similar problems ? is this and issue with this phone i have dcds last rom on it and not much of anything running i usued to start out with 18 Mb ram before this started im about ready to do a hard reset or flash to fix this but i want to hold that off as a last resort if i cant get any help
flashing isnt actually necessary unless you plan on upgrading or downgrading. hard reset sounds like your best bet. i hard reset pretty frequently. UC allows me to hard reset and get everything back up and running like it was within 15 minutes.
well i tried a hard reset and no go still acting weird but now it wont even start up properly so i ended getting a replacement but this UC your talking about how do i get that set up?
It is a program you're running unless you are talking at startup. But with all the moguls I've come in to contact with never had that happened. Usually programs like wmwifirouter, aim, skype, and gps today.
What's UC?
I'd like to know what UC is also. I HATE hard resetting because I have LOTS of games on my card and I have to either re-link them or reinstall them. It takes hours, so I try to avoid hard reset like it is the plague!

Well vodafone finnaly got their ass into gear and launched 1.66
I installed it on my hd2 from build 1.43 which came with it
but now it barely functions and takes more than 5mins to come out of the standby screen
I've found that 'albumsearcher.exe' is using on average 99% CPU speed
I have max 30pics on the phone so can't understand why htc image viewer is struggling to cope
I love my hd2, even put up with 1.43 for 2 months on it's future benefits, don't know if I can take much more crap from it before vodafone have it back
any help will be appreciated
did you hard reset the phone after flashing?
I presumed it does hard reset after flashing due to the phone and all it's contents being wiped
is hard reset not part of the rom upgrade?

Is this hard reset after flashing ESSENTIAL?
i ask because i dont remember ever seeing it on the HTC instructions on flashing roms
I have no idea why you have to hard reset your phone. But i also learnt this with my hd2 stock rom 1.43 o2.
What is really strange, everytime i hard reset, i get more memory. Not much but i do get more.
Its very bizare. but it really does increase in speed when you hard reset. dont ask why but it works on all the hd2 phones ive used and my friends phone too.
Strange but true
I too can't understand why the extra hard reset, but it does in fact seem to work. roms do seem to run smoother when it has been done.

Microsoft My Phone and PIM Backup will save you some time. I think it's worth giving it a try to do a hard reset. If that doesn't work you can always switch to another (shipped) ROM.
Well i used MyPhone to back it up and then copied all my no.s back to sim
Hard rest is done and the albumsearcher.exe now uses <1%
just bit dissapointed that to update yu have to be prepared to loose everything and start again
still glad i didnt go with iphone...but no other device i have needs to be wiped to update
seems old fashioned for such a modern device
Albumsearcher.exe is back again
whenever i click on the photo tab the .exe uses 91% of the cpu
any ideas on a fix? its the vodafone hd2 1.66 that was just released
anything that doesnt require hard reset? as ive done that and it didnt work
i.66 also decreases screen senstivity
I know its no real use sorry, but just wanted to report that i updated the other day to the Vodafone 1.66 Rom from 1.43 that came shipped in December. I didn't Hard reset after the update (didn't realise you should?) and i haven't had any major issues... Haven't notice any major speed changes either up or down and no rouge programs eating up the cpu...
Makes me wonder though if i should Hard reset now before installing too much.. does it really make a difference??
ive found 1.66 to be much better than 1.43 since the update
Faster to open an app, txting is much faster without having to wait for it to load all the txts
Texting is much better... None stuck in the outbox but everytime i go to the symbols page when typing the cursor jumps to the start of the message?
yea i have that every now and then but 90% of the time its fine
My Pure has gotten really crappy lately.
Out of nowhere, the phone takes forever to complete tasks. It took 3 minutes to open a contact to dial. It took 2 minutes to get to dial a number completely, and another 45 seconds before pushing the talk would start dialing on the network. It took me 30 seconds to open up SPB Insight. Another minute to open up Opera browser. Took 5 minutes to open up the Messaging app to try and text. Etc...
Also, it seems to not want to show me whose calling half of the time. It just plays my ringtone and the signal meter has the image of a phone on top of the bars.
I have not installed any new applications on the system in over a week. I don't have all that much installed anyway. I try to keep data on the sd card. I emptied out all messages and still no speedier.
What can be done to defrag or something to help this POS work better?
Thanks!
try a hard reset. thats what i would do.

are you using a stock rom or custom rom? i use energy roms and they all have pim backup cooked in. im sure if you just do a little looking around you will find a few different backup apps. ill see if i cant find the cab on my comp for sprite.
check this out. it will even re-install your apps for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582421&highlight=backup+app
stock rom is in use.
Yeah that application for backing up didn't work whatsoever. When it started up it went ape-crap with errors. Downloaded an update, same thing.
Any other ideas to keep from losing all of the settings, programs, etc, before hard-resetting?
yeah, lookup pim backup or sprite backup. some ppl like spb backup but i think it might cost a few bucks. im sure there are some around xda if you look, or just google those i just told you about.
Silly Question
Did you try a soft reset first before you leap to a hard reset? Just wanted to make sure as I saw no mention of simply soft reseting...

i was asuming he has already done that.
About 15 soft-resets a day with the occasional forced pulling out of the battery because it literally hangs for 5 minutes with the screen seemingly locked up waiting on something to open or close...
Just hard-reset the dang thing. Still as slow as ever. HTC has let me down for the second time.
You need to install a good task manager and find out what is running in the background.
what would be a good, free task manager to try?
Try sashimi for restorals. PIM back up is not for programs.
Well I did a hard-reset and it didn't resolve anything whatsoever. Must be device related.
But since it's bricked sort of, anyone have advice on a good, liteweight ROM to use on HTC Pure? May as well try to do that for the first time, since I'll have a replacement in a few days.
I like very little about ATT's ROM. Slim would be great.

if you are getting a warranty replacement i wouldnt flash a rom unless you want to flash it back to all stock b4 you send it in. if its insurance go ahead and flash away.
Guess I'll wait. Out of all the threads here on the matter, can anyone recommend a good thread for how to go through the steps required to get a Stock PURE flashed to another ROM?
Want to do it the easiest and best way possible.

here, read this. this is a pretty good guide as how to do it. its the one i used when i started flashing my pure. be sure to flash hardspl first!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=632886
Check my Signature. Runs at 53% mem usage all day long.
Since flashing Duttys WM6.5 Leo Holy Grail ROM to my HD I have been very impressed with it's performance, 99% of the time it is responsive and stable and seems happy even though several programs are running. It has made my HD a really nice phone.
But every now and again something weird will happen, usually activesync reports a problem, or all of my contacts vanish, sometimes files on the device (not SD) cannot be accessed. So I soft reset and it doesn't boot, it will get stuck on the orange splash screen.
In total it has happened about 4 times since I flashed the ROM on Dec 29. It happened last night and eventually the device loaded the background picture, then popped up an error dialogue saying something about being unable to open a file, there was no mention of the file name. I did a soft reset and it then automatically performed a hard reset.
The other times the phone just hangs on the orange splash screen every time, causing me to perform a hard reset manually. Sometimes it will work fine for a good few days, or sometimes fail after only 1 day.
Its really annoying. I cant seem to get a HTC that works at the moment. My TP2 is rubbish, I've tried several ROM's and it is consistently unstable, so I go back to my HD which was always reliable... And now this happens.
please Help or I'll be forced to turn to the darkside and get an iphone and I really don't want to do that!
Why not just return to the "reliable" firmware version used previously?
I'm not a fan of custom roms or 6.5, especially on this underpowered model, it's definitely the most reliable handheld I own or have owned with oem roms though, especially without it's resource gobbling pretty face on.
Not really the most helpful answer, but i suppose i cannot argue the reasoning behind it.
In defence of this ROM it is BRILLIANT when it is working, i'd actually argue that the device feels smoother with this ROM than it did with the stock Orange UK ROM.

Have you tried asking your question in one of Duttys threads. You may get a better response. Also, try flashing a different rom
Thanks.
Since posting the message the problem has not come back.
I have been thinking that there is a possibility that my server was hacked, i noticed a few things had changed on the server, i also had notices when i logged in to facebook and paypal, informing me that someone from New York had accessed my account. the server and facebook used to have the same password.
Is it possible that the problem i had was caused by a hacker on my exchange server issuing a command to reset the device? i know it can do something like this to protect data in the event of a phone going missing.
what does the device do if exchange server performs this routine?
Please help me find this problem... i dont want to buy an Iphone!
Ok I tried a different Rom, this time i used one of KWBR's:
http://media.celogeek.com/roms/kwbr/..._5.7_Sense.rar
a month down the line and its just started to go wrong again.
this time, i find that the device slows down a little bit, prompting me to soft reset, when it boots i find that my contacts are missing, active sync will not load properly, it briefly flashes on screen but lower 1/3rd of active sync window is missing (appears transparent or black) only way to get contacts back and active sync working again is hard reset!
Anyone got any ideas what might be going on?
its been doing this now on both ROM's but i have no idea what may be causing it, as far as additional software i only install a few apps: Slimcontrol 1.5, Core player & GcZ2 (geocaching tool) which all have been running fine before.
