can sombody can explein to me why thair are problems with the wifi in the tytn ??
and is thair a way that a rom or radio upgrade will fix it ?
If you want to get a good answer you should ask a questions with more details.
What kind of problems do you have? Please give us detailed explanation.
the problem is well known....
short range and allot of discconcting
Weak wi-fi reciever. Though TyTN's as bad as in Gloffish
I get the weak wifi receiver but I don't have a lot of disconnecting from my router. I don't think I've ever been disconnected.
The problem I have is leaving wifi enabled (and connected to my router) and letting the phone go to sleep mode. For some reason my phone won't wake up from sleep mode if wifi's on. I end up having to do a soft reset. It's annoying.
Hi,
In the past my tytn was affect to many wifi problems, after update of frameworks.NET CF2 sw download fm microsoft website all problems was end.
I suggest you to do the same
Black Eagle
can you be more specfic...
do you have a link ?
i doubt if it is a .net framework issue. it's probably some task which is interacting with the operating system while it is in sleep mode and hangs from there on

If you do find you need it, it is on:

You are probably right, but the background task causing the problem might being hanging because the .net framework is not current or needing re-installed.

Dear all,
I'm wondering about Wifi telephony on the QTEK 9100.
It works fairly well with various software soutions. However, the phone has to stay "fully on" (except backlight) in order for th Wifi connection to remain up. This alters battery life severely.
I'm wondering if it is possible to have the Wifi connection stay up during power save mode, with some kind of "Wake on WLAN" event that would wake up the phone so that IP phone software can process incoming data.
Some of it already happens for GSM. I'm wondering whether the GSM part is "fully independant" (like on a different processor), or if it's handled by the main processor. In the later case, it may be possible to achieve something similar with Wifi telephony.
Thanks in advance for any hint.
so there is no way having WIFI enabled and lettign the pda go to sleep mode / power save mode ??
is there an APP that leaves power save mode off if the WIFI is enabled, so only the screen goes of light, and the pda stays on ?
P.

It's fully independent. It's very cleverly written; this is why, for example, listening to incoming IMAP IDLE or Push Mail callbacks don't require the CPU at all.
yes i got that part on my own, thats why the GPRS connection stays on... but still there should be a registry somewhere to prevent device to go to sleep if WIFI conneciton is made..
tried all the powermode stuff in regisrty, nothn worked... out of clue...

I don't think you can do this - the WI-Fi module is completely independent of the radio module. Furthermore, you'll constantly need a LOT of power to keep the Wi-Fi connection up, as opposed to GSM/GPRS, where handshaking is only done during roaming to another cell and/or every (AFAIK) 10-20 minutes. Otherwise, the PDA doesn't trasmit anything, a sopposed to the Wi-Fi case.
That is, it seem sit's impossible to do any long-term Wi-Fi "listening" in the current Wi-Fi / PPC architecture.

all i need is a tool that disables POWERSAVE mode if WIFI connections is made, or even if WIFI is enabled...
that would do all the work....
anyone ?
i think the closest thing is in phm powertoys (http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/PowerToys/)
the screensaver option... what it does is turn off your touchscreen like in "sleep" mode but if u use this you might want to disable the power save option cause while u have screensaver on its still gonna count down n shut off ur ppc hope this helps!
Hey guys, I've been having a problem with the wifi on my universal for awhile, it just won't turn on, antenna stays off, no scanning, it's just off.
Going into the Wireless lan settings in the control panel "Wireless LAN OFF" is displayed, click "Turn on WLAN" it thinks for a few moments then returns to off with nothing changed.
Does anyone know if this is fixable? It doesn't appera to be a software issue, as it has continued on 3 diffreent ROMs... so i'm not sure how to proceed

I don't have Universal, But did you test an official rom or a cooked rom ?! because some of the cooked roms don't have the right wifi driver
I don't think its the driver, since 3 different ROMs, and no one else has complained about such thingcs in any of those ROM's, also it does work sometimes but thats maybe 1 in 20 reboots.

hello people, fist time poster here. had my uni for about a month now. very useful device, I was loving using the wifi until 10 mins ago when the whole device turned off randomly whilst browsing through wifi. plugged it in to charge, when starting up I get a couple of errors saying certain things won't start. now wifi doesn't start and I get the same problems as others on here. do we have a solution to this?? also, can I actually turn this device off? I've tried holding the power button on for 20+ seconds and had no joy.

You mean "really" off, like as no battery would be inside?
Nope, you can't
You can switch the active pda part off and set it to silent, but this wouldn't prevent the device from switching back on on phonecalls. Even if you turn off the radio stack it still would power the display's backlight on and show a notifier if a reminder was set up.
Really turning it off is only possible by removing the battery. Yes, it is a windows mobile device.
Concerning your problems after the crash you should be fine by coldbooting after recharging the battery. The latter one often causes some troubles with the Uni.

WiFi also dead but on a HTC Artemis
Hi Guys,
I have the same problem but on my HTC Artemis aka XDA Orbit. Only occurred when I was flashing with different ROMS. Even when i flashed original ROM still same thing.
I did read on the forum somewhere that the issue was due to the device not having a valid mac address.
Anyone shed any light on this matter?
There are tools out there for other HTC devices to get Wifi back but not sure if they will work on the uni as they dont work for the artemis.
i was able to get my wif working bygoing into the wireless manager then network cards and had to change it so they all were set to connect to the internet

hi @ all
this tread is a bit "past" but now i got the problem mentioned by balur. i used google and the forum search, but i was not able to find a solution. i hope smb. can help me, because i need the wifi on friday!
I solved the problem of Wi-Fi turning off by going to ActiveSync - Connection Settings and enabling "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop" option.
Wifi Stopped Functioning after flashing Roms
I have had similar wifi problems with my uni,
My uni was working perfectly for a long while when using "Tomal's 7.7" with Radio 1.18 . . . since then I tried testing with "T-Mobile official ROM AKU3.3" where the flash process when without a hitch.
However I had to change roms again since the T-Mobile rom wasn't very good. but i never got as far as testing the wifi
- - - -
I then tried to flash Tomal's 8.5 Beta, I ran into problems, and was stuck at the bootloader, I tried unlocking the uni with mtty, But i had copied and pasted the commands, and it kept on returning errors, after disconnecting and connecting with mtty again i tried typing in the commands and successfully unbricked my uni.
I attempted to flash Tomal's 8.5 Beta again, this time it worked without a hitch, but then I couldn't turn on wifi.
Wifi cannot be turned "on" from the comm manager or from WLAN. It just remains "off".
So I tried flashing back to Tomal 7.7 and wifi still didn't turn on.
Then I tried flashing Tomal 8.5 Beta again and still no wifi.
I've now tried flashing Radio 1.15 and - still no wifi
- - - -
I havn't the foggiest why wifi isn't functioning at all. Have I messed things up when I copied and pasted the commands into mtty?
Or did flashing the T-Mobile rom cause the problem?
No WIFI
Same here. I've tried 2 different upgrades now and the WIFI simply will not turn on. I've tried all the tricks in this thread, still no WIFI. anyone any ideas?

I've the same problem but with the Bluetooth. And I can't find a solution to it.
Wifi, Bluetooth... Looks like Hardware malfunctions. Probably you will have to claim HTC warranty. Look for your warranty card, bill, packing and what not, check with HTC.

I don't know about that issue myself, so if I came across that same problem I'd have to use the search option. Did you try and see if anyone else has had the same problem?
i try to find something but i cant' find that someone else have the same problem.
wow man! reviving a thread from mid-2010! you have every right to revive it because it is your thread and you couldn't find a solution to your first problem.
but i am confused! its been more than 6 months since you reported the problem. how come you haven't tried a newer ROM? v1.43 and v1.48 are very very very old! latest is v3.14, try it and let us know if it fixes your problem. if you have a T-Mobile HD2 or a branded HD2 (vodafone, etc), then choose a latest official ROM appropriately.
good luck!

that was when i open thread now i have 3.14 ROM also i was at 1.72 ROM ...but still the same maybe i need to try with android.iIf i don't find any solution i'll try that
aah ok so you have tried the latest ROMs...so you see how it can help us and save all of our time if you post more information instead of copy/pasting the old version of the question from mid-2010?
here are some more things to try to isolate the cause of the problem:
1. try your device on some OTHER wifi network, e.g. at your friend's house or in a coffee shop, etc. does the wifi hang on ANY wifi network or just the one at your house, for example...?
2. when the wifi dies, leave it DEAD, do not disconnect/reconnect wifi. try to ping your HD2 from your desktop/laptop, assuming all devices and computers that you own are on the same wifi network. tell us what happens.
3. same as step 2, there are some programs for windows mobile that you can run on your HD2 to see your device's IP assignments, etc. such tools can also be used to ping your desktop/laptop from your HD2. i think one program that can do such things is "network browser". tell us what it shows regarding network card information BEFORE your wifi dies as well as AFTER your wifi dies. also tell us if you can ping your desktop/laptop from your HD2 after your wifi appears dead.
4. does it make any improvement if you run your wifi on "best performance" instead of "best battery". note that "best battery" is the default setting which can cause reception issues in case the wifi signal is weak.
5. yes! certainly try android, it should help isolate the problem further to confirm/deny if it is a hardware problem. but you should know that your device's MAC address will be DIFFERENT if you install android (this is because both the SD and NAND versions of android and MAGLDR currently available have no automatic way to read the actual MAC address from your device's firmware). this might cause your router to behave BETTER if the problem lies somewhere in the router's configuration. it might solve the problem for you, but you will have to shift permanently to android just to fix the wifi issue and you might never find out what router setting was affecting windows mobile if the problem really was the router settings. tricky isn't it?

Hey
I have the same problem with my HD2. I cant load any pages after 5mins of being connected to WiFi. Disconnecting and connecting again works for the first 5mins but then you need to do it again. Very annoying.
If I changed the battery saving settings in the WiFi options, it seemed like it helped sometimes.
I searched alot on the inet, but I couldn't get it to work properly.
I sent a message to htc.com support and they told me i had to perform a hard reset and upgrade to the newest official rom. I did this but none helped.
Now I've sent it for repair under warranty. I'll let you know if they fixed it when I get it back. I'm not sure if there is any other sollution, but I hope they will fix it for me.
Regarding the previous post about how to isolate the problem I will tell you how my device responded to these situations:

"Best performance" seemed to extend the time on which my WiFi would die. So I think this definetely has something to do with the problem. However I tried alot and nothing really solved it. Tapping 'Renew IP adress' a few times seemed to help too.
I read on the net about battery managing for WiFi on mobile phones in general, and for other devices who could choose the option to block the auto managing the problem was solved. Our HD2 however doesn't have this option.

I have tried alot of android builds (NAND & SD) but all had the same problem. I didn't spend much time figuring out what I could do about it while in android but by connecting the regular way the problem occured quite fast.
I have an annoying problem with my device. I'm able to find other bluetooth devices and connect my omnia with them olny when the wifi is on. After the connection, for example to my speakers, I can also turn off wifi and the bluetooth streaming continues without problems, also if i disconnect my device (mantaining the bluetooth toggle on) and then i re-connect it. Someone has a solution? It isn't a big problem, but quite annoying
My first Omnia did this. I've jsut had it replace under warranty for something else and my new one doesn't do it.
It was annoying I agree.
"Interesting". I have the opposite problem - whilst WiFi is active BT doesn't work. Sent my phone to be services a week ago so we'll see.
