I have read in the forum that for resolve problem i must do a erase comand.
In the wiki i have found:
erase
Usage:
erase [StartAddr [Len]]
Erase the content of flash ROM.
StartAddr : Start address of ROM(default(hex)=a0040000).
Len : How many bytes will be erased(default(hex)=40000).It should either return "T " for succes, or "F " for failure (encapsulated in the HTCS-HTCE block).

So what comand i have to give?
is right this one?
erase 0x0 0x1

How to erase bad block
I have the same problem and due to this problem the extROM won't installed automatically
Anybody have any idea????
in my days with the BlueAngel, mamaich and some other guys created a partition formatting tool. This might be the answer to our dead and unwilling tytn units.
I imagine once you have formatted the partitions, everything would be erased and it would be a fresh unit.
Exactly same problem here, same sectors... Extended ROM?!? But my phone works fine, and extended ROM works fine. Anyway, bad sectors make me worried a bit.
Where is this formating tool you mention? Hermes also has task 28 command which formats something (storage).
These 3 seem to be factory marked bad blocks in NAND, a lot of hermes devices have them. Nothing to worry about.

So, how come I couldn't install the extended rom?
POF,
I downgraded my unit to spl 1.01 and the first time I wrote command..USB> lnbs SPL-1.01.nbs 500020000 instead of USB> lnbs SPL-1.01.nbs 50020000. I caught this and unplugged my device and reset all appeared great then in 24 hours my device locked up tried to reset upon boot in to wm5 it would give me an error for windows voice command, and lock up m yphoned in 5 seconds. so I reflashed my rom and all appears OK, loaded all my programs, but not VC never reads my appointments or emails like it used to, and yes I have checked the settings so i think i must given my phone some bad sectors. what you think

because in the new EVT series, the SPLs are properly written with full ECC checking, task 2a just formats the NAND entirely

yes, it is normal... its a NAND device. Forget about it and be happy.
About NAND devices
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_memory
About bad blocks of NAND devices:
Most NAND devices are shipped from the factory with some bad blocks which are typically identified and marked according to a specified bad block marking strategy. By allowing some bad blocks, the manufacturers achieve far higher yields than would be possible if all blocks were tested good. This significantly reduces NAND flash costs and only slightly decreases the storage capacity of the parts.
Thax for all answer!!!
my polaris is bricked.
i can enter tricolor screen , but nothing after that.
tried many tricks but still no solution.
1. pressing reset, screen is totally black
2. i can enter normally into tricolor screen
3. i can flash any rom i like , but everytime black screen after reset.
4. hard reset is working fine.
5. hard spl is installed

it could be possible to change the ROM memory?
Hello,
My old mda vario (I) will die soon so I've bought a secondhand mda vario (II).
But the phone isn't working, it won't pass the windows mobile screen.
I think the person where I bought this phone from tried to flash it. (It has a splashscreen from orange)
Here's all the information I have:
M 05
S 04
B 05 D 1.23
And after a while no gsm will appear.
From the tricolor screen:
Herm100
IPL-1.01
Herm100
SPL-1.09
I've been reading a lot here but didn't test anything because I don't want to have 2 not working phones.
Is it possible to fix this one or is it already to late?
So what to do?
Thanks for reading and helping
Hopefully it's not serious (even though it does seem so). I have an 8525 with the same specs and the radio bootloader is dead, therefore it's what i call "half a brick."
Hopefully you can revive your 8525 by following the instructions posted here.
So only if I've KITL, I could repair my phone.. Let's hope i've that..
Hope so; i tried everything possible but the phone is just dead (the phone radio that is).
Hope you get it fixed.
When I connect my phone in bootloader mode to my pc I get htc usb sync.
And when I don't go to the bootloader mode it will be detected as a windows mobile based device, but activesync can't connect...
Is that a good sign?
I've also tried this
And mtty could connect and I could execute these commands:
USB> password 0000000000000000
USB> set 1e 1
USB> erase a0040000 c80000
USB> erase a0cc0000 c80000
USB> erase a1940000 640000
USB> set 1e 0
But I still get the no gsm message.
I've also tried to get in the kitl mode (with the power, comm manager and the reset button i believe). But I can't get it in that mode
Any other ideas?
@ kareem9nba thx for helping

Done that.. But nothing changed
Ok, doesn't seem to be to good Try flashing a different radio and if it freezes during the flash, you more than likely have a dead radio bootloader. Let me know what happens.
Do you know any good ones? And activesync can't connect to my device so will that work?
For the sake of this problem, try any radio (maybe a 1.58.xx.xx series). You should be able to do it if your device is connected to your PC.
With radio you mean an spl?
(I know, i'm n00b )
Would another spl help me with flashing a new rom onto it?
And if I can't get it working trough usb, is it possible trough micro sd?
kareemnba: task 2a will not help with the primary problem, at least now he certainly has no OS image anymore.
I would have a quiet word with the person who sold you the phone. It was dead from the start and you shouldn't be wasting your time trying to repair their mistake. If you check the Hermes WIKI unbrick table you will see that there really is no way to repair this unless you send it to the repair centre or somebody like Cmonex can give you a final pronouncement.

there is a way, though, if the radio bootloader is dead, then only the OS can be made to boot again. the radio itself is not saveable, unless jtag to it is accessible.

how can i fix the bad blocks???
Did you try to hard spl it? You need to downgrade your spl to 1.04 and then try from there. Make sure that you use activesync and then click auto detect. Try it again but make sure your not running any programs while doing so.
You need to remember too that sometimes the telco "brand" the Hermes with bad blocks. Generally 2. Telstra Australia used to, not sure anymore.
So saying, you can't fix the bad blocks if your SPL is higher than 1.10. You need to downgrade your SPL, fix the bad blocks then flash hard SPL again.
Cheers...
thanks alot!!!!
I have downgrade my spl , but spl 1.01,and 1.04 and 1..09 are the same as spl 2.30

USB>task 2a
Check block : 30 - Bad
Check block : 38 - Bad
Check block : 861 - Bad
i found It just changed cmd> into usb> from spl higher then 1.10
PS:when my phone was in spl 2.0,there is 6 bad blocks in nand flash, the task 2a has fixed three bad blocks
but these bad block still can't fix....
I'd say they are from the telco then... I can't fix 2 bad blocks either...
Remember to upgrade back to Hard SPL v7. VERY Important...
Cheers...
