Adding more power to WiFi on 8525? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Is there any registry tweak or driver hack I can do to my 8525 to power more power in the WiFi broadcast? I have a laptop that works perfectly well in my house yet my phone always loose its established connection within minutes because of its weak transmission or doesnt establish one at all. I pretty sure its the 8525 not returning the hand shake, etc. I went ahead and made sure wifi battery usage was set to performance over battery life but made no diffrence. Anyway to increase the broadcast dB?

Wizard Wifi Poor Signal

Whenever I use my Wifi connection on my 8125 at school or at home, even if I am close the the router, the signal is very weak and dies at times. Forget being at school and being a couple rooms from the router. Could anyone help? Thanks
have you tried tweaking it or, even better, put a new ROM on??? ;-)
i have upgraded the rom. But i have not tried tweaking it. Any tips on how to tweak the 8125 to get a better signal?
have a look at the topic on how to tweak the wizrd...I don't know if it is the same registry value or not... but it might be worth giving it a shot
i was thinking about doing the G registry hack..but is there anything else?
Make sure the power mode setting for the wireless adapter is set to max (Best Performance), instead of power save (Best Battery)
Start/Settings/Connections/Wireless Lan/Power Mode - move slider to the left
hope
yes i did this, i tried djvws prog...seems to work here, but where it really matters is at school. will post feed back later...

WiFi over GPRS

Folks,
I use the WiFi connection on the Exec a lot, pretty much all day every day in fact. The problem is I have to change the power settings of the phone to never shut down otherwise when it does, the WiFi connection gets dropped and the a GPRS gets established instead - and that costs!
Is there anyway to prevent the WiFi getting dropped when the phone shuts down? Or maybe a way of making WiFi a priority over GPRS so it will connect that first?
I suppose worse case scenario, I could disable the auto connect feature of GPRS, anyone remember the hack for that?
Tom
Hi, there's a hack for that in the following thread:

8525 freezes after loosing the weak WiFi signal several times

Hi all,
I'm facing a weird WiFi problem which seems to be different from the ones that have been discussed before and referenced in the FAQ.
Specifically, when I just turn the WiFi on, I can connect to the network (WPA2-TKIP secured), authenticate and browse Web sites etc. There are no problems with the proxy, unavailability of WAP2 in the drop-down box - within first minute or two after turning the WiFi on, everything works as expected.
Hovewer, the signal strength is unstable, and once the signal dies a couple of times, the 8525 freezes: the backlight instantly goes off even if the device is AC-powered, and the device stops responding to anything except Soft Reset.
It should also be mentioned that my WiFi is configured for best performance, not the battery saving mode.
I was suspecting it was a hardware problem, so I hooked up my 8525 to my notebook over WiFi at home, using WEP security. I was hoping that if it was for the broken WiFi hardware, I'd observe the same freezing effect. Still, the WiFi worked just normally. I must admit I didn't intentionally emulate the loss of signal (should test it as well), but with nominal signal strength there were no problems at all!
So does anyone have an idea what could be the reason of 8525 freezing after loosing the WiFi connection? I know there are issues when WiFi is left turned on in standby mode, but, as I've said, in my case the 8525 freezes even if it's on AC power and is being actively used. I've also noticed that sliding the 8525 to access the keyboard somehow increases the probability of freezing, especially when the device is on battery power.
My OS ROM is wm6premium.v2, perhaps there are known WiFi problems with this ROM? Also, the Phone is HardSPL'd and SIM/CID unlocked. Please help, as except for this weird WiFi problem, I'm totally satisfied with my 8525.

Wifi Unstable?

I'm using Resco Radio to stream live radio, and, while it works fine over hsdpa, I find it buffers every few mins over WLAN.
I have the WLAN set to "best performance", and am approx 75cm from the router - signal isn't an issue. I work in an IT call center so I have tested it with routers there and get the same issue - its the phone not the routers.
I notice that the WLAN symbol at the top of the screen seems to go to "connecting" when this happens, its as though it just drops out intermittently?
Has anyone else experienced similar or is my device possibly faulty?
Thanks!
I am using Wifi all day here in the states (as the phone only supports edge here).
I never had that problem. Wifi is super fast for me.
I did notice though that I think that after I installed NET3.5 Wifi became unstable.
So I removed .NET3.5 and it seems to be working fine and very stable now.
My Wifi setting are "balanced" and I have to admit that with this phone the Wifi power consumption is super low, comparing to other devices.
WiFi working fine here.
I'm using WiFi all day through work's WiFi and at home as well - both WLANs are perfectly stable and super fast here.
I have it set to "balance" for the performance. I'm also amazed how quickly it connects to the WiFi access point when its brought out of 'sleep' mode! MUCH quicker than my Touch Pro!!
FWIW, I have .NET 3.7 installed - no problems at all.
Ok, uninstalled .net...
That didn't help!
However I think I have figured it out, the stupid thing turns wifi off (even though it is in use) when the screen has been off a few seconds, I guess to save power, thereby interrupting my stream!
Now I just need to find a way to force it to stay on, battery be damned!
I like to listen to the radio when I'm going to sleep, so its plugged in to charge overnight anyway, and I turn off wifi when I go out....
have a look at this registry key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms]
there's
HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended"=dword:0

[Q] Wifi, save battery..

How change Wifi Power Level to save battery ? For example at my home, my Wifi acces is at 2 meters...
I don't think it works like that - a wifi receiver as in the A500 consumes as much power as it need to get the signal. It's the transmitter (on your router) that can be changed to save power.
Can the A500 be used ans a wifi repeater-type thing, to extrend wifi range (if so, then it would use more power to do that)?
The WiFi is an transceiver full-duplex
So, sure in receiver you can't change anything in consumption, but in transmit if you change the power in transmitting, your decrease the power in consumption of energie
Hard to imagine wanting to reduce your WiFi signal. Most hardware and software if made to optimize the signal. If you're trying to reduce power consumption try something like "CPU Tuner" which adjusts many factors both automatically (or fine tuned by you) to improve battery life.
The other option of course is to turn off WiFi if you don't need it constantly. Put a switch on your home page to allow quick on/off capability to make it a snap to do this on the fly.

Click to collapse
I had the same issue with my first a500-16gb, I called acer support, described the issue and they directed me to exchange the unit. The second one worked normally and could get a good signal throughout the entire house.
On closing the case they indicated that there were a batch of units identified with defective wifi chips on-board.....
