When is the new ROM Coming? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I am running the Cingular ROM 1.34.502 and I am wondering when the new ROM will be released? I expect them to write a OS that will greatly reduce the battery demand. I am averaging about 8 hours of battery life.
Is it coming soon? This is a really big demerit to an otherwise great product.

Yes, there's a new Cingular ROM in the works that will include PTT. I would assume that it will be released in Q1 because that's when they originally said the PTT service would be available on 3G phones.

i hope its soon cause this phone is too buggy at the moment! my wizard was so much more stable but there were loads of roms available why is it so slow for roms on this phone?

What is the best/recommended ROM for Cingular 8125?

Any recomandations on what ROM I should be using?
I got 2.17.7.2 WWE, is there a better more current one worth considering?
Your suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
I just went to the rom you using to the custom 2.3 aku. Not much difference for me. Infact its a bit slower for me then my 2.17 when I ran memmaid on it. honestly I would keep the one you have unless you really have a need to upgrade for some new feature. I'm going to try and mess with some settings to see if I can get it running as well as I did with the 2.17 but right now I would say stay with that one.
I also just upgraded to 2.3 (custom from Summiter) and will stick with this unless I have major issues. I'm finally getting notifications of new e-mails with a vibrating alert and my alarms appear to be working as well. That is something I didn't have under the 2.17 ROM.
However, to be fair - some people are having issues with dropped calls and networking with that ROM. Read the thread on the custom 2.3 ROM to see some of the praises and problems.
Cingular did just release the 2.2 ROM so that is officially supported. Some people think it's not as good as the 2.3, others think it's better.
Best advice I can give you - back up your files, try them out (but remember that the 2.3 ROM needs a CID-unlocked device), and decide for yourself.

T-mobile UK WM6 update

hi,
i called T-Mobile yesterday to enquire about them upgrading existing devices to WM6, i was told that if the manufacturer made the updatees available then so would they. i told them HTC were making updates available for their own brand devices so the girl went off to speak to the technical department and came back to tell me that i should keep checking the website as they were expecting some kind of updates to be available in june but couldn't tell me exactly what.
sounds promising...
Lets hope so!
Thats quite wicked.. not sure how the rom are going to compare to the rom's that have been cooked here but they have changed their tune...
They did say that they were not going to update the handsets and that you would have to purchase a different model..
We shall wait and see....
D
Bonus
Great news, then we can get something solid and supported back on our handsets and lets the ROM Chefs take a holiday (though probably a quick one!)
I can say if you are looking for something stable on tmobile UK....Black Dymond with radio 1.40.30.00 is a winner at the moment.
ROCK SOLID, i tested all beta versions (beta, RC1 and RC2) and this ROM has had alot of work put in it.

Your Opinions please! (tried searching!)

Hey folks,
I've tried searching and there's no forthcoming result on this (despite that I suspect it *must* have been covered somewhere) - perhaps it's my dyslexia?
Anyway:
I'm now ready to install a WM6 ROM on my currently WM5 hermes from Tmobile.
I'm looking for people's opinions as to whether it's worth my while and what the performance differences are? (obviously it's a lot of work getting things set up again so I want to be sure it's worthwhile).
Is WM6 running slower on hermes that WM5? or faster?
Has anyone a ROM they would reccomend? Else I'll go with the Tmobile standard.
So opinions please!
Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate it!
cmon!!! you cant be serious!!!!
ppl are looking to upgrade their devices to wm6.1 and you want us to compare wm5 to wm6? i mean seriously......look at every device thread, even the older devices, you can practically see wm6/6.1 for almost every single devices, even devices which are waaaay older than wm6. and you probaby wont find anyone getting excited over any wm5 releases anywhere.......doesnt that tell you something?/
if you searched hard enough, you could probably find someone who compared the performance of wm5 to wm6 but those will probably be with older builds of wm6, and those just dont compare with the current builds. your best bet i would say is to try it out urself, its not that hard.
I know it's not that hard to test it - I'm already running it on my blue-angel.
And it's running well.
But comparing hermes to blue angel is comparing apples to oranges.
It's a *huge* amount of work doing the upgrade. Not the actual upgrade. That's, as you say, rediculously easy. But installing 20/30 medical textbooks? dozens of other programs, fixing out my network setup on it....
these take hours, and in a casual not setting hours aside for it fashion a couple of weeks.
So I'm understandibly not wanting to take the risk and plung in until I'm sure it'll be worthwhile.
Anyone got any experience? Has WM6 upgraded the speed? or is the slight graphical revamp a strain on the processor?
Also should I go with tmobile's own ROMs for WM6 or a community alternative?
Opinions pretty pretty please to save me hours of work!
2 words.......user customization
there truly is a HUGE diffrence between wm5 and wm6/6.1. i would recomend going with a WM6.1 build from the get go considering all the programs you say you load on your hermes.
I am currently using the DVH Rom build 19400(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387516 ). I find it to be the fastest, loaded but not bloated, and honestly is the best i've used in quit some time. He has apparently released a new rom (build 19701) but i have yet to try it out. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388747)
best of luck
molesaied88, TRY 19701, ITS FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!!Quick and VERY stable... I love it.
Thanks folks.
Sorry I took ages to reply i had exams! Right so you guys are advocating using a custom home cooked WM6 Rom rather than an original one?
(I'm assuming these are faster? Are they fully featured though?)
Now I'll need to decide whether to go with Ultra or molesaid's suggestion. Anyone know which is currently running more spritely?
Again thanks again! I know the forum must be deluged with this kind of stuff
I have found WM6 to be much, much more stable than when I had WM5. Not as many lock ups of freezing as before. I used to have to soft reset my phone all the time because of lock ups, but with WM6 I rarely reset my phone anymore.
I would say that stability and the larger pool of programs for it made WM6 the choice for me.

latest official ROM

hi, are there any new official roms for the HD? i just got mine on orange and i wanna get any update out of the way so i dont loose my settings and stuff by having to flash it soon lol.....
There is no official update for the moment - just one version and it's on your phone ......
Slightly off-topic but is it normal for HTC to release upgrades for their products with new and improved features and applications? Or do they save these for the next product range and just send out the Hot Fixes to fix bugs?
With 16 months to go before my Orange upgrade it would be good to look forward to some HTC goodies.....but I am in a dream world?
Well I flashed to an Official ROM v1.19 WWE released in Asia.
The ROM feels quicker especially TF3D, more stable, bug fixes, minor software updates etc. No added features though but XDA will give you all the goodies.
Fantastic community!
HTC should be contributing some of their funds to XDA as it provides the best customer service.
I really wish HTC would issue some more official ROMs with all the software updates, rather than a few untidy patches.
I think HTC shoul extract Touch Flow a little from the hardware and giv all the new version to older phones, too.
It is a SMARTPHONE and has the ability to get enhanced.
Like apple does with the iPhone

Motorola Cliq Android 2.1 Update? Help!

Hi to everyone on this forum,
I'm here to ask for help!
I'm a Motorola Cliq owner, it's called Dext here in UK. Basically Orange reduced this phone in UK and it's selling like hot cakes and I'm sure it sells decent around the globe. It’s a mid-range phone with physical qwerty keyboard.
It uses the Android 1.5 version! Even though it's only 8 months old Motorola are refusing to confirm the Android 2.1 Eclair update. Here is the official Motorola forum where there are many complaints from us customers wanting the 2.1 update. Read on after the first couple of pages to see the complaints: [turns out I can't post links because I'm new, you can go to Motorola support pages and click on Motorola Cliq to see]
I'd like to know if you can help us out since you're such a kind community! Can you help us root this phone and put the Android 2.1 or even the 2.2 update to it when the Manufacturer (Motorola) and network carriers (Orange) are letting us down? Much appreciated. Mani.
Edit: Motorola have locked the official support thread because of the complaints about it! You can still view the thread though.
Hi, there is no release date for 2.1 on Dext (this means Cliq outside US), on the other hand there is release date for 2.1 on Cliq, that is Q2 2010 (from what I recall).
So far for US Cliq there's a 1.4.8 radio release and I think in UK there is only 1.3.20, so latest releases are not compatible, however you can root your phone with a compatible version and look for a custom ROM (like Handler's that include flash!!).
Take a look at this forum, it's for CLIQ/Dext and there is a lot of info.

Thanks cortinag but that Website is pointless for getting a newer version of Android, it only seems to have firmwares from other countries...
Can anyone please tell me the difficulties of porting the Android 2.2 Froyo to the Motorola Cliq/Dext? I'd like to know this since it uses quite a popular CPU and has a good amount of ROM and RAM. This should mean porting is made easier right?
You can see the spec below:
Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz processor
1 GB storage, 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM
There is no theoretical problem getting 2.1 on the dext. However, you'd probably have more luck getting 1.6 running as there's more of a chance backporting the 1.5 drivers for the phone's hardware (cpu is just one component); at least you'd get 2X as many apps available in andro store. A good starting point would be one of the CM roms. The phones are relatively easy to root, instructions @ unlocker. Only unusual feature is with motoblur hooking quite deep into the system, tbh, I'd love a blur free rom for the dext/cliq. Blur is just memory hogging garbage imho. Our biggest problem is that until one of the Devs purchases a dext/cliq (unlikely now as it is pretty much obsolete and you can get a much better phone for the money) there's no one to develop the ROM.
The small business I manage IT for has 2 WinMo, 6 iPhones and 5 androids, one of them a Dext. The obsolete os on it has been a pita for me ever since our marketer came back from UK with one. Moto doesn't look like they are going to upgrade it, none of the blur phones look likely to; they just push the dates back and back, stonewalling on the forums. Our employee has chosen to switch to an iPhone. Sweet, makes my life easier; another person turned off Android by Motorola's arse-hattery.

Wow. Perfect and well-informed answer/advice. Although not pertinent to me, I must say thank you for taking the time out to help people who are new to this or just learning.
