Activesync error 0x80070008 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I use activesync with an exchange server in real time to sync my emails:
I have a major problem with this sync error (0x80070008) constantly coming up on my Cingular 8525. My device will get this error 2-3 times a day during heavy use and it is causing me a lot of heartache. It is true that you can just do a soft reset and then the activesync works again....HOWEVER, there are some times where I do a tremendous amount of work moving emails around and sending replies etc.....then I get the error and do soft reset and lose all that work. It is a major annoyance and it is causing me to rely less and less on my device for email work. I don't want that to be the case because I love this thing and I don't want this to get in the way.
I can only say one more piece of info that may or may not be a real association - This error happens often when I'm on the subway and I have no service I do a lot of work on the device....and when I get out and try to sync this error is very common. This is not the only time it happens, but, its a frequent one.
It surprises me that this is not plaguing others besides me. I hope that someone out there can give me a real fix to this nightmare.
Thanks,
Ezra

Which ROM you are working with?

Rom version: 1.34.502.1
ROM date: 09/21/06
Radio version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol Version: 32.53.7018.01H

I dont know if its the same problem or not, but I used to get something similar when i lost service...not able to connect back up to the data network.
I just went into comm manager and turned the phone off and back on...no soft reset...no lost data.
First Post, not a real fix, but maybe a workaround.

Unfortunately this isn't a data connection problem. I am able to browse the web when this error occurs but not sync. I've seen it mentioned somewhere that this is some kind of memory leak problem....I don't know.

Sorry I had to edit the main thread subject because I wrote the error code incorrectly.

bump. PLease, someone help me with this. I cannot stand it anymore.

here

indicated the same problem with same activity, agressively moving emails around through your subfolders might be a significant cause, perhaps due to the sync process, and trying to keep up with you.
especially if you are loosing a connnection back to the server due to your circumstances, it is perhaps trying to queue the number of changes and trying to keep up. new technology probably is perhaps lacking a bit of thought in the process.
just my two bobs worth, and you get your bump anyway.

The same problem with Kaisar Rom wm6.1
Hi,
I have the same problem with kaisar after upgrading to WM6.1. I have many subfolders (over 50). Any solution to the problem?
Thanks

I got that error after something happened to the AS file on my pc. The Hermes tried to find the file but as it was missing it couldn't. Only solution was to delete the sync relationship and start again. Had all my contacts backed up as a precaution because you loose them all if you delete both sync folders - on pc and hermes...
Cheers...

Syncing too many folders causes error
I get that same error with my Touch, whenever I have too many (more than 20 or so) folders setup to synchronize. What's really annoying is that with WM 6.0 I could sync up to about 40, but with 6.1 I can do only half as many.
So far I am at a complete loss as to the cause.

maybe this guy is up to something that would help us

I started getting this error on my HTC Touch Pro when I decided to sync my appointments for the previous month instead of the previous two weeks. I was using ActiveSync through bluetooth. I didn't have any problems syncing until I made that change.
I decided to sync it through the USB cable instead and it sync'd without any errors. My guess is that the bluetooth connection was too slow to sync the larger amount of data.

When i trie to sync it gives me the error.
What should mean that it is out of memory.

Why oh why do some things keep disappearing :? :? :?
GPRS monitor has gone from the today page

My email accounts disappear after a soft reset.
WiFi settings keep losing my network key

am i the only one with these problems...?
I had similar issues with my first XDA Exec. I added the wireless connection and bluetooth device. The next day both would just disappear while the bluetooth was being used.
My current XDA Exec keeps corrupting files. Some of the files become unloadable, and others seem to loose the first character of the file name. This makes them not load when the device is reset.
I don't know what causes it, but I would be interested to find out if other people are having similar issues.

William. D. Wensley
.
Same here too
This is no help  but I guess you guys must be in the minority, cos you're the first people I've seen mention these problems. Certainly my Exec remembers all its WiFi connection settings and my email accounts after soft resets. That would really be annoying.
For info about doing HardResets and selective CAB install, this thread might answer your questions.
I had similar problems on Qtek 9000.
Mail, Grps, Wifi and other settings got lost on every soft reset.
Uninstalled SPB Pocket Plus 3.0.4 and the problem is gone for now
And BAAAAAAM the problem is back again.
Once more everything is deleted
After this happends and you sync the device, do you also get a screen on the device asking for Exchange Password?
I hit 1234 and save password, then it syncs.
Using AC 4.1 on W2K all updates
Yes, I kept getting that issue on my first Exec. The ActiveSync synchronisation would stop until a non existent exchange password is entered.
Since I had my Exec replaced, I haven't had that issue.

William

Well it aint AC that doe's this.
Cleared my device and started over without Syncing at all.
Soft Reset, Mail and Wlan gone and forgets user/pass for gprs.
It's on it's way back A.S.A.P
Hello there,
I have exactly the same problems as you describe. Have set the software back to factory, and the same problems appear.
I also have problems with BT, since no connections can be accepted....
Oooohhh no, even more people having this problem........
Ill prob. get the same device back and have this problem for a few month until a usable rom is releashed.
I dont know, could it bee the messaging software the causes this???
The same error has been reported by people upgrading BA to WM5.
error ActiveSync 4.1
There is a well documented error with ActiveSyns 4.x if you google for the ActiveSync error No. in my case something like 810041 you will see that an error code starting with an 8 points the fault at Outlook API Whatever that is) and there are several fixes and workarounds out there. in my case I was trying to sync with my laptop while it was not connected to the exchange server BUT there are several other things to try that get rid of the imaginary server.
Hope this helps
@toho
Yeaar your right, but it still dossen't explain the missing settings and accounts.
I lost mine without even syncing the device after a Hard Reset.
mail settings
well..2 days now and no loss
but it seems there is a wm5 problem ......
I have been careful to not disconnect the AS cable when a sync is in progress , so far...so good!
Today though, Skype has gone loopy!
The WiFi also fails to find my AP as well

Disappearing email accounts
I had 3 additional email accounts set up on my XDA Exec and was downloading and sending emails of through them ok via WIFI and GPRS. I was also syncing OK with my outlook on my desk top.
This morning I checked my mail through my WIFI conection (not via PC), and downloaded ok, although I seemed to loose a load of mail in one account. - Did'nt think much of it....and put it down to SPAM/VIRUS
Mid morning my old Oragne phone number was ported accross and I did a soft reset to "reinitiate" the phone etc. This works fine.
I did some Active Syncs ok as well.
THEN
I noted that all my other email accounts had gone - only Outlook remaining.
Later when I tried to Sync, I am now being asked for a MS Exchange username. I am not using exchange!
ALSO When I try and set up my old email accounts again, it says to use a different Account name as it already exisits, but plainly does'nt.
I have got rid of the 02 Bloatware and running in Corp install. Much faster and more stable - until now.
Any help on thes propbs appriciated.
Cheers
Ed (Mr)
Once again my 3 email accounts disappeard last night when down loading mail via my wifi connection.
They still appear on the today page, but cannot be accesed from it, or from messaging.
I now have 6 email accounts sitting somwhere on my xda exec and cannot get to them!
I have tried the reset method using psshutxp and it has not worked.
Not impressed with WM5's speed or stability compared to Palm which ran for years with hardly a hitch. It would'nt be so bad if there was a full backup/ restore facility so that hard resets could be used to sort it out.
I have had more resets, crashes and "bugs" in 2 weeks than in 3 years with a palm.
Can anyone help in getting my accounts back and restore my faith in WM5!? Please.
Ed

I've lost my phone pad as well. I don't appear to HAVE wi-fi on the new incarnation of this phone (not that I care, I never used it anyway), and once again, I can't get the phone to sync to my computer. I've never known a devide this unstable in all the years that I've been a certified gadget freak. It's heart-breaking, because the potential of this thing is amazing, but it JUST. DOESN'T. WORK.

Thank God my problem is a little less crucial than yours... Mine is the disappearing act of the soft keys "Menu" under Phone pad and the Contacts under the Start screen... It returns after I do a soft reset.. weird huh?
My email accounts just vanished too, and thats just a few mins after upgrading to the new O2 ROM
I'm getting the Exchange login too.
Any ideas?
Thanks

2) reinstalling Outlook or repairing
3) delete the mobile device from AS and recreate the partnership....

Yes I know, been there, done that.. Arrrrrrrrrrgggh.
The reason for asking, was to see if anyone have solved this permanently.
I bloody hate to use several hours/day to have my PDA synced when I'm going traveling !!!
And it alwasy happend just before I'm on my way out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had it once, cos i'd plugged my usb cable into a different socket on my lappy, back into original socket and all fine
found this here http://forums.pocketpcfaq.com/viewtopic.php?t=16283
When I upgraded 2003SE to mobile 5, I also upgraded Active Sync 3.8 to 4.0.
I the had the 85010014 error, like so many people.
I then stumbled upon the advice from someone from microsoft (in an obscure forum somewhere) to remove the current device (file->Delete mobile device).
I did that, and thought "What the heck, it's not working anyway" and thought to remove all devices from AS. Doing this, I ultimately removed 3 devices....
It then struck me that AS can have associations with only 2 devices... the 3rd was added after the Mobile 5/AS4 upgrade, because AS thought it was dealing with a new device, I guess. But apperently it also upgraded and kept the old devices AS 3.8 had (I had upgraded ROM on my iPaq once).
Removing all the devices, reconnecting the iPaq, recreating the association with the device in AS worked flawlessly... no more 85010014.
My guess is that many people will have the same problem; too many devices in AS. AS doesn't show you any device profile above the allowed 2 through file->Mobile device> ... so there's no way to know there's too many devices associated, unless you start deleting the lot...
Oh, yeah, all profiles will get lost this way, but it wasn't working to begin with....
I also found problems synchronising "favourites" when it had synchronised data with the web, or when I had tried to add mobile favourites from different sources so I stopped syncing favourites, and never had a problem.
USB Hubs are also a problem, sync direct to the machine rather than via a hub.
You can also look here

Used to have that problem with my old XDA2i, AS definitely gets confused after a while.

8525 - Pocket MSN and Connectivity Problem

Ok, in addendum to the previous post I had, I had a few problems with my 8525. First was the telnet not accessing, which is since fixed. (zaTelnet CF2 + .NET Framework upgrade). Second was the Bluetooth not responding correctly. After alot of research I found that sending as a beam will after failing to find an IR beam will present you with the option of bluetooth under "Unknown connection". So, those are fixed, which leaves me with:
My pocket msn will sign in, work for about a minute and then stop recieving messages for some reason. Then it'll work again (completely skipping any messages I should have gotten) and then stop completely. I have a feeling this might be due to connectivity to the high speed network. I only say that because I can hop on the internet explorer, browse pages for about a minute and then all the rest become unlocatable. Same way with telnet.
Device Information:
Rom Version 1.34.502.1
Rom Date 09/21/06
Radio Version 1.16.00.00
Protocol Version 32.53.7018.01H
Model Number Herm100 (Hermes 100?)
Platform PocketPC
I just got my phone a few days ago, 2gb MicroSD Card is on its way, and I'm looking to make this a really stable phone, any insight or suggestions that might be able to help are extremely appriciated (Been googling for quite a while on this and can't seem to come up with a definate solution)
Also, I won't be upgrading to the WM6, I don't want to risk bricking my phone as I am too new to changing roms etc (First PDA phone... ever)
*shameless bump*
Well, since noone responded and I have gone and done everything here, it would appear that switching from wap.cingular (Note: Not wap.cingular.com) to isp.cingular (note: not isp.cingular.com) fixed the connectivity problem. Figured I'd post it here incase anyone ran into any problems with their messenger connecting/disconnecting etc etc. Also to note, you would need the pda unlimited if you're going to use isp.cingular or you'll rack up charges fast.

New connections database installed

Today in the morning i started the day with taking the HD and the opera. Opera was opened by clicking a favourite from TF3D. But after the established UMTS connection opera closed surprisingly very fast and the "settings" menu started self.
"New connections database available, please install"
I affirmed the download, it installed and the HD shuted down without question and needed manually restart. I found no problems after that.
What does it mean? I never experienced such kind on my other HTC or WM devices.
I have not activated the automatic Windows update in settings!!! And also all other update modes in different progs i believe i have set to manually. ???
Yes, same here, except i didnt touch opera. The message came immediately after USB-connecting the HD to my PC. The download failed with a network error, and i still havent been able to complete after >10 tries.
Looks like it comes from 208.188.89.139, which resolves to 208-188-89-139.ded.swbell.net. I dont have a clue who that is and what it means, somebody else maybe?
it's done exactly what it says it has, it has downloaded and installed a new connections database. you know, the one used by the automatic connection setup wizard that triggers after a hard reset. it is desired behaviour and nothing to worry about (unless they've removed your carrier)! ;-)
This could mean the preconfigured profiles for various operators and their packet data (read: internet) connections. It just means the phone knows how to set up the packet data modem settings according the operator. So maybe it wanted to connect some htc database to pick up more recent configurations files? Someone could mail to htc and ask whats going on.
Got the same message right now. It's downloading right now....
update: due to connection error failed to download new database....

Does it mean there is allways an (not indicated) automatic connection check-up wizard in the background running and a permanent update check?
I couldn't believe this. And i don't like it!
It's very suspicious to me if my HD talks with other sources without informing me! This could also be not good for the datarate and battery.
it at least asks before it does anything. There are other companies who handles this much worser (ms, sony, etc.). Those do it without asking the end user lol.
Maybe this is ROM or carrier dependant?
Mine didn't ask or download anything.
i notice it after plugging in the usb to active sync with the computer.
I have ActiveSync running the whole morning, even reconnected the phone a few times.
Won't download anything though, which I don't mind.
Got the same message for 4 times this morning, every time it tried to connect, but it won't download more than 1%. Does anyone what it is trying to download and why?
lol mine keeps failing the download. furthest he got was like 30%
In other words if i update the few Kb on weather or stock application or during a fast email check, the HD checks additionally and secretly for updates? Sounds for me like the Vista automatic update blah. I want to stop that "wizard". If someone hacks that magician and add it to coming ROM updates it's dangerous.
It's not happend to my uncle HD
installing it for the 10th time today
just to get rid of that alert, everytime i say yes to download the update on my HD, and then it says failed.
now it stopped at 8% again
If this a hidden but common process with a today new published update, hundreds of HDs trying to connect now and to download the file. 6h ago i found no download problems. Now all of you other guys in Europe and Egypt are awakened
Yep I too have just recieved that message. At 49% and happily downloading, does help I am on HSDPA at the mo so no issues. I suggest that the people having issues check that they have a good internet connection or get on a wifi network.
Or htc servers are just getting a bit hot
Hehe maybe they should've rolled this out little more carefully.
Mine stopped at 1% through usb cable.
same for me i download it and it soft rest
Just popped up a few times on mine as well - constantly failing.

Microsoft My Phone Not Logging In

Hey guys, wonder if anyone could help me out here.
Just recently, my Myphone program on my HD2 won't connect to the microsoft servers. When i try to connect, it says theres no connection or there's a connection problem, even though my wifi or 3g connection is fine.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the cab, and now its stuck on the screen saying 'signing onto the myphone service.
Would just like to get this working again before i reflash my phone to the new 1.66 rom so i can retain the messages i have on this computer.
Any help would be appreciated.
David.
Oh yeah, if anyone was wondering, i'm currently running the 1.48 wwe europe rom.
same here my phone does not log in. is there a registry tweak or a patch?

Personally, I've never had an issue with MyPhone, apart from the occassional service down type issues, but I've been using it for about 8 months now, and that's only happened a few times.
Since you said you can use it over wifi, can you not just do that so you've at least got an up-to-date backup before you flash?
I had this issue the other day. Turns out my clock was set to the wrong date/time. Once I set the correct time, I could log in fine.

So what do you mean by the date /time was set wrong? If itsin regards to what day it is and the right date, mine is currently set to the right times at the moment.
Time/Data stamping is very important to a lot of things to function correctly. MyPhone is one of them.
Just sync your time via the internet sync and try it again. I have used this service for some time now as a few others and I have not had more than an occasional server is down messages.
Don't set your time manually do it via internet/air.

Tried everything that has been suggested but still no good.
Upon closer inspection, it seems when u try to logon, the program does not even seem to even access the data connection, whether it is through WiFi or with an active 3g data connection running. it usually jumps straight onto the error screen or just gets stuck on the logging in screen without any result.
So does anyone think it might be caused due to some registry setting preventing the program from using the connection ?
Getting really fustrated with all this at the moment.
sorry to dig up this old post, but i am having the same situation, did you get it solved? how?
Edit: Found on another forum that connecting thought activesync the first fixes this, it worked.

I know this might be redundant question but have you checked your date and time to see if it is correct like suggested previously in this thread. Personaly the date and time somehow getting changed to the wrong date and time is the only reason I have ever bad trouble with Micosoft My Pbone.
yup, both are accurate.
