Speed Dial Database - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi All
Anyone know the name of the databasae on the XDA Exec that stores the 'Speed Dial' numbers. I'm going through a bad patch at the moment where I'm having to do a lot of hard resets...and it's a pain in the aris having to then add back all the speed-dial numbers afterwards
Thanks

If you have WM2003SE or WM2005 on your ppc, you can use this to backup and restore speed dials...

No, but you can find backup applications that can help you for keeping personal data. But I'm not an expert in that stuff.
BTW, I'm working on a SMS backup/restore app, in the same way as PPCBckpContacts, but I don't know yet if it will be a full messaging backup app.
Cheers,

Thanks Fred
Good luck with the SMS utility. If it's anything like PPCBckpContacts, I think you'll have users beating down your door . The reason for asking my original question was that I liked the simplicity of your program in contrast to many other backup utilities that only seem to cater for 'whole system' backups (with a bit of choice involved in WHAT is backed up).
Thanks for the quick reply...

In fact, I'm rewriting PPCBckpContacts, it will be called PPCPimBackup. Nothing much changes, except that the files will be in unicode (so good for foreign languages which have special characters) and will allow records on multiple lines (especially contacts (ex.: address)). There will be also a mapping fields window like in outlook (see attachment picture) so old backups will still be usable.
And I will add SMS backup first, then maybe the rest if it is not too complicated.
Cheers,
.Fred

Testing testing...
Hi again Fred
If you need an extra pair of hands to test anything - I'd be happy to try any of your stuff out...
The real frustrations for me are:-
- no way to backup speed dials - until you pointed me in a certain direction
- no way to back up SMS and Messaging data simply and quickly

Found a way to back up TXT messages

I have searched the net looking for a way to back-up my TXT messages on my Universal.
I have finally found a way but its not brilliant and hard work.
If I use SPB Back-up and back up just E-mails it backs up the TXT's as well.
I wanted to know if anyone else knew of any other ways of doing it.
I would really like to be able to see them of the PC.
PPC Backup or something like that does it, its free and the developer is on these forums, I may have got the name wrong, but it should be easy to find.

Yes, it's pretty useless to use Spb Backup for this task when there're much more lightweight and, mor eimpotantly, free tools.
In addition to the highly recommended PIM Backup, I also recommend http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/in...edition_sms_organizer_to&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
I use Jeyo, which works absolutley perfectly!

This is by far the best, better than Jeyo.
I use EasyHelper Contact+SMSBackup... u can backup & restore from PPC to yr SD without using any PC...easy and convenience...
when i flash new rom and need to restore my SMS..i have prob with jeyo..
Jeyo is excellent
Jeyo is just what I wanted I was looking every where for a program that does just what Jeyo does.
I must say I obviously didn't look hard enougth because I never knew there were any programs that did msm massages untill a few days ago.
Thanks so much every one!

Things to keep in mind?

Hi guys..
I just got my first ever smart phone, Touch Dual, and I wish to look into it, so I have a few questions.
Since I would like to edit registry settings, edit the cube etc. I would like to know what I should be aware of? What software would come to my aid if something fail and I need to restore the phone?
And which application could you recommend for edit registry, and other settings?
Sorry for these newbie questions, but as soon as I get these things up and running, I would do anything to contribute to this forum.
Sprite backup is the way to go for..backups, 10 day trial period if memory serves, you can restore forever;
To edit the registry, you can use the regedit module of Resco Explorer.
if your worried that anything you do might completely kill your phone then dont worry... apart from flashing a new and it going wrong, a hard reset of the phone will factory reset it and fix most problems
my touch dual is shipped with sprite backup (on a software cd). maybe you can also check whether any other useful utils available on yours.
Thanks for the replies..
My phone was shipped with the backup software, just installed it - seems to work like a charm, except it couldn't save some Messenger Live files, but they didn't seem important anyway.
Anyone other recommendations?

yeah..its so cool that they give a registered copy & not a trail for the sprite backup...its a life saver for us folks who flash & tweak a lot!
(btw...the sprite backup is a HTC version....whatever that means)
I think thats because you can only use it on a htc device?

[email protected] Key on HW Keyboard only shows z

Hi there!
i've got a problem with my touch dual (xda star). i use the german 20 key version of the TD.
where ever i'm pushing the [email protected] button, i only get a z.
the keyboard layout is german. i changed it with shaps advanced config.
even when i'm typing a word and the xt9 auto-completion is on, i push the [email protected] button, and the autocompletion closes, the typed word disappears and only the letter z is shown.
if i am in abc mode, i also only get the z on this button ... x,y and @ have disappeared...
has anybody got an idea what todo?! i tried to switch the language codes in the registry (HKCU\keyboard layout\) but this didn't bring my lost letters back
it's really annoing to switch to touchkeyboard everytime you need an x,y [email protected] ...
thanks!

got that prob, too. thought it arised from an incomplete spb-backup run. It wasn't able to include "\Windows\eT9AsDb.Adb", "\Windows\eT9Cdb.Cdb" and "\Windows\eT9Rudb.Rdb" and right after executing the backup my device came up with the missing x and y thing. tried some things, nothing helped but a hard-reset. I also told the spb support, but I didn't try out their how-to. In case you want to, I can send their response per pm to you.
Cheers,
jekk.

Thx fot the hint, but actually there wasn't a problem during the restore-process but while creating the backup, so I should have considered twice, before restoring the faulty backup .
Although a bit off-topic here:
Does Sprite Backup save all HTC Home and HTC Cube settings (i.e. QuickDial, QuickLaunch)? (cuz spb doesn't)
Does it need a PC-connection for backing up and/or restoring?
I have the same problem on my french 20 key touch dual. I asked HTC Tech Support, this is a known issue to them that the HW keyboard is not functioning normally on some devices, a patch SHOULD be out soon...

thats quite interesting, because on the one hand the problem gets solved with a hard-reset (at least on my device) and on the other hand a patch is what i would like a lot, especially if it includes wm6.1, radio updates (hello wifi?) and improved responsiveness (grafx-accel-drivers?) and stability.

i'd appreciate that, too ...
i allready had to do a hard-reset and lost all my data, because i didn't know about sprite backup ...
By the way, does somebody know if sprite backup also backs up your messages? (sms, email?)

I wish I could tell - Sprite Backup didn't want to create a full backup on my device (just tried). Fails with error "could not backup databases" or something.
But I just wrote back to Spb Backup team with further information (did what they proposed, checked registry, told them) hoping I'll get an answer soon.
FYI Seems like in registry key HKLM\Software\Spb Software House\Spb Backup\UnlockFiles files are mentioned which need special care.
has anybody got news about this topic?
i miss my [email protected] key

I guess nobody has found a solution to the specific problem yet. This means up to now a hard-reset (and maybe a roll-back to a backup) is the only solution.
Sprite Backup will most certainly backup you pim-databases.
Nevertheless, to get Spb Backup to work, it's sufficient to enter the files in the registry (see this and this post). Performing the backup is w/o problems then, but I haven't tried to roll back yet.
Cheers,
jekk
Ok, thanks anyway.
I think, i'll give the backup and hard-reset method a try and i'll post my
results here.

Haven't experienced the ringtone changing, but the problem with the ringtone sometimes not ringing is a well documented bug with no fix as yet. Strangely it appears to happen mostly with Duttys 2.1 inc MSVC and not Dutts V2.1 WITHOUT MSVC. If you read the thread on Duttys V2.1 you will see this.
V2.2 is due for release soon and hopefully this bug will be fixed.
I'm using the original ROM and have the problem
I have the problem too, with the original ROM.
Is there a solution ? with mortscript?

Great , Thanks, wow, 2.2 is due, man, i need to do something as i want new roms but cannot afford installing all softwares and doing settings. any way around for it, as i usually install some usefull software, backup sms and restore and its a 4-5 hours process. any method you know using which i can just dump all my settings on the new rom . contacts emails are quick as i use exchange 2007, so they are synced pretty fast.
but what about settings like Advance Config, and Xt9 words , and IE and Opera Favourites etc. please help me for this.
Thanks Rikin

There are different ways of doing this. You can use PIM, SPB Backup or Sprite
In future instead of working hard to reinstall everything, why not just use a backup program like SPB Backup 2 or Sprite.
SPB Backup & Sprite are basically the same. You can use either of these to backup all your settings, including programs, ringtones, contacts etc, then if any problems materialise or you hard reset you use the backup file created to restore to your previous settings.
I have been advised by noris08 that when flashing to a new ROM each of them may have some issues and when you restore the apps, some of them will not work and some will generate some new conflicts
This issue has been explained before but either in this forum or somewhere else.
Another option is to backup personal things with PIM and to reinstall all apps from scratch

i install my programmes to the storage card, then use total commander after a rom install to create short cut links to programme folder, (although only installed one rom so far, and happy with it, so dunno if this would casue problems with other roms?)
i was worried about re-installing all progs, but took couple mins to create the shortcuts, much happier

yes , i did it , but i want the time stamp on my pictures .
my (wild) guess is that maybe somewhere in registry there are two independent entries responsible for putting date on a photo, and both marked 'on'
so if you have time and patience, you could, try to dig a bit in following keys:
HKCU\Software\Camera,
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Pictures\Camera
HLKM\Software\Camera
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Pictures\Camera
HKLM\System\Pictures\Camera
tried myself a little, but did not manage to replicate your problem...
or mayb just contact HTC web support?
Guide please

I would like to to help me on how i do what you suggested me
first I'd definitely recommend contacting HTC support here, because it is the easiest and fastest thing you could do
secondly - did you try to reflash your ROM? it may or may not help, depending on whether your problem is of hardware of software nature (don't know how is the timestamp imposed on the photo, but my bet goes to software)
- word of caution here - backup system before re-flashing or you will loose all data (see below for app list)
thirdly - toying with registry - by far the most painful/timeconsuming/frustrating way:
invest in good backup app and make full system backup before doing anything in registry,
available solutions: SPB Backup, Sprite Backup or Resco Backup - all commercial; there may be some freeware apps available of which I am not aware though
get some registry editor: CeRegEditor or TotalCmd, Dotfred's TaskMgr (all free), or Resco Explorer (commercial),
thus armed browse your registry (only the keys I listed earlier) looking for entries which names seem to be timestamp-related
when you stumble upon suspicious/promising entry try changing its value (e.g. from 1 to 0 or else) -> soft reset -> check if it worked -> rinse, repeat
if you happen to crash your system - restore it from backup, and start again
I hope the 3rd option does not look too scary, in fact it could be finished in few hours max (whether successfully or not is another story)
Thank you for you're help

I see now, that somehow the first line of my rather lengthy post dispappeared...
maybe it's obvious, but I meant to list those 3 bullets as alternatives, i.e. you don't need to dig in registry if reflashing ROM helps,
and consequently no need to reflash ROM if HTC support provides some solution
Thanks
