Hi guys..
I just got my first ever smart phone, Touch Dual, and I wish to look into it, so I have a few questions.
Since I would like to edit registry settings, edit the cube etc. I would like to know what I should be aware of? What software would come to my aid if something fail and I need to restore the phone?
And which application could you recommend for edit registry, and other settings?
Sorry for these newbie questions, but as soon as I get these things up and running, I would do anything to contribute to this forum.
Sprite backup is the way to go for..backups, 10 day trial period if memory serves, you can restore forever;
To edit the registry, you can use the regedit module of Resco Explorer.
if your worried that anything you do might completely kill your phone then dont worry... apart from flashing a new and it going wrong, a hard reset of the phone will factory reset it and fix most problems
my touch dual is shipped with sprite backup (on a software cd). maybe you can also check whether any other useful utils available on yours.
Thanks for the replies..
My phone was shipped with the backup software, just installed it - seems to work like a charm, except it couldn't save some Messenger Live files, but they didn't seem important anyway.
Anyone other recommendations?

yeah..its so cool that they give a registered copy & not a trail for the sprite backup...its a life saver for us folks who flash & tweak a lot!
(btw...the sprite backup is a HTC version....whatever that means)
I think thats because you can only use it on a htc device?

What the hell they thought to innovate by eliminating the possibility to make a simply, useful back up???
How can we do to avoid to re-install everything after a HardReset???
As I understand it, programs, databases, and user files are stored in ROM, so they will survive a hard reset unless you specifically tell the device to clear itself.
You mean that all the informations I need are stored in ROM, and so ROM is upgraded everytime I make some change...so I could never store a "basic" configuration to use like a starting point for following new configurations...
I don't think it's a good thing!
:? :? :?
THX 4 your reply
Its called too bad so sad!!! lol wait for sprite backup wm5

Hello,
My screen decided to crack for no real reason. Honest.
So o2 being the lovely people they are are sending me a new phone (exec).
It arrives tomorrow and I have to send my broken one back.
Quick question needing a quick fix (ie next hour or so...?!?!):
I would like to save / download my texts before sending the phone back. Now I know there have been loads of posts like this, but I am at work and simply do not have the time to trawl through the posts to find the answers.
Can anyone take 5 mins to tell me where I can find a simple to use, free program that can save my texts? Please???
Thanks
HPJ
try spb backup. I use this and THINK it does text messages.
or copy each text message to notepad
orsend each text message to a friends phone
or try sprite backup
I had same problem and for me SPB didn't work correctly Soo, I'm not impressed with SPB.
It can backup texts and all the rest, but have some problems restoring them ;(
I've tried 4 different backups
Good luck!
Cheers!
Chris
Hi,
Sprite have just released a new version of their software (v5.1) and solves alot of issues with wm5.
Might help.
Matt
Spb Backup (latest version 1.1.2) works perfectly for me - no problem whatsovere backing up and restoring sms text messages. emails, etc.
Thanks everyone I'll get onto it!
got my new qtec 9000 but it seems slower than my XDA exec, whats up with that????
anyway is there a way to backup everything!!!
so say i need to hard reset i can just load my backup and it will put all my progs, reg hacks etc settings all back to the way it was before the hardreset? without having to do any reinstalling etc????
I know it's probably too late by now but just in case...
You could use Jeyo Mobile Extender which is an add-on for Outlook - this will sync all your SMS messages into Outlook - it's on the top of my list for software to buy in the future the demo is fully functional for 14 days i think and should do exactly what you want.
Cheers,
Smiffy.

SPB does this perfectly, and i have had any problem with its usage, even during beta. others prefer sprite... whatever turns you on.
for SPB, yes, you can do a full back up, completely hard reset your device, and do a full restore and walla back to original condition, only question is, why did you hard reset it if you want it back to original condition.
so i have created:
1. virgin device - settings, tweaks, hacks and over bare bones device, with absolute essential software installed, registered and licensed such as Resco, SPB backup and other mission criticals.
2. perfect device - all desirable applications, settings, folder and software preferences, licensed, registered and running, but no active sync
3. two backups automated per week so that if i accidentally drop it, or do something stupid like dodgy software, I have a choice of 4 restore points (last two backups, perfect or virgin) depending on what i want.
hope it helps.
great info mte!
i need a backup coz my first xda exec had to be returned due to dead cam light, my current qtec one wont active sync until iv done a hard reset so m guessing its not liking something iv done, plus thats going back as iv noticed the camera has around 30 dead pixels.
hwever if i make a bacup of my device now will it also take the problems with it? ie the activ sync problem?
oh and i ant decide wether i like the silver or black qtec 9000 whats ur guys thoughts? currently on a black one with red keyboard leds
oh and if u aint noticed iv got a brand new imate k jam for sale incase anyones interested

I hope it will be SpriteBackup 6.5.2, but i haven't see any positive reply about it yet working on the Touch HD!
SPB Backup works fine. Just set it not to shut down processes before backup.
Thanks
First thanks to Rick , that seems to work . on the other hand I tried Sprite backup 6,2 and that seems to work also.
sprite backup 6.5 works fine
There's no backup program inside the cd like the cd from Touch Pro, right??
Can also confim Sprite Backup works fine. (It's also listed in the working programs thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442663 )
I think Sprite is also good for restoring to different rom versions (after rom upgrade for example) which other backup programs I've tried fail miserably at.
Anyone tried scheduled backups with SpbBackup?
I lost my contacts because SPB wouldnt restore to a different rom version, haven't touched it since!
Sorry to hear that. I'd like to use SpbBackup because AFAIR it is able to restore single registry items (very useful sometimes). Already tried but didnt convince me, took ages to backup the HD and sometimes didnt even start. Sprite runs fine, registry restores can be done but not single item based.

All comes down to your usage then really
If your hacking the registry that could be quite useful!
I leave the registry alone, except it's absolutely necessary. Wouldn't consider it hacking, but just to give you an idea: my company runs a hidden wifi and they keep the password a secret. I know the network admins well so i asked them to enter the password directly into my device without telling me (they wont, so i didnt even ask). Yesterday the profile suddenly vanished when i was trying to connect. Not a big deal, under normal circumstances. But as i dont know the password i'm unable to recover. Restoring the corresponding registry hive would have saved me. Anyway, i'll show up in the admins room again

I gave up Sprite a few versions ago because that version allowed full restores or nothing, no single file restores. I assume they've fixed it by now, that was useless! But I've restored Contacts across ROM versions and across different machines with SPBBackup many times. Perhaps I'm a bit paranoid, but I have PIMBackup scheduled daily too, just in case...
I hope this is the right place to post so please correct me if its not. My question is whether or not i can customize the rom on my tilt 2 and perform a full back up using spb backup or sprite and then have my mom in norther cali load the same rom and restore said backup on her tilt 2?
This would solve many issues for me if i can do this so i appreciate your feedback.
Paul
I know sprite will restore to a new device. So yes, it will work. I don't know if there are network settings or other phone settings that may be copied from your phone to the other. Try it and you can always hard reset if it doesn't work right.
Your mom must be wicked talented if she's able to hose up a phone bad enough to need a fresh ROM install My mom would be lucky to find the power button.
We'll first, she didnt mess up the phone at all, simply bugs within the rom. Shes actually pretty good with these devices (this is the fourth iv gotten her.) Just simply need to get her set up with my exact rom and load my sprite back up so she doesnt have to do a bunch after flashing. So to recap will sprite load my apps/ settings even though its a different tilt 2 i.e. device id?
Thanks for the feedback guys
hey im going to flash my rom to the latest one stated on the HTC website.
i have a HTC HD2 and i was wondering what one out of all the WM back up software there is out there is best and will back up the most..
what im really looking for is one similar to the symbian one by nokia where it restores your phone exactly how it was including settings and programs.
i know there is Sashimi, spb backup, Sprite backup, SKTools, PimBackup, spb clone, Resco Backup.
i have loads of reg tweaks and modified files and would like them to be restored after my rom update.
i know that sprite will not allow you to restore after an upgrade the rom..
spb clone looks good but not sure if it work and don't want to buy it if it dose not do what i want..
thanks

The best thing to do if your flashing a new rom is to re-install all programs/tweaks. do not restore them after flashing. Restoring is only ok as a back up on the same rom if you for example messed up something & had to Hard reset.
Although you can backup & restore yor PIM data & messages with any of the apps you mentioned. I pesronaly use SPB Back up.
What about favorites, and email settings, ring tones.. or registered apps?

Favorites ok.
The rest not recommended.
will any of the above software enable me to reinstall purchased software (like items from the marketplace)? otherwise i don't see how to do it.
I use Microsoft MyPhone
Does contacts/messages/pictures/documents... does not do applications - but if you've got a large enough SD Card you can just keep a back up of the cab files you've installed in a folder (that's what I do anyway).
With the registry - why not make a back up of the registry and pop it into the backup folder or something?
yeah i like Microsofts MyPhone, its realy handy and with free data i sync up every morning.
with programs i just try to install as much as i can on my micro SD card and with the new markedplace version you can default that nice one.
registry tweaks is not that bad to restore for me, so not a problem here
Phattypab,
A 2 second search of this forum got me this...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633387&highlight=backup

PIM backup? you can add as much or as little to backup.
TBH settings and configs are relatively pointless. If you only have a couple or so email accounts then it is little trouble - especially with nice HD2 keyboard.
I know it's nice to have it all setup, but just write down a list of the things you have to do - hopefully you will not be flashing all that often - and things can go wrong if you try to apply a bad registry setting or general setting.
STill, back it all up then selectively restore is another option. Bit by bit until it messes up.
Messages+contacts are key IMO. everything else is not critical, especially if you keep cabs and use Tom's auto-install.

Registry backup across a ROM flash is definitely not a good idea.
Hi guys, I wonder if SPB backup's "full backup" also backups the softwares that are installed on storage card?
