new to pda2 imate - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i Software Upgrading

dear all,
i am new to htc machines and pdas. i bought a used alpine (imate pda2) recently. it has an arabic enabled wm3 se
rom version: 1.111.00 wwe
rom date: 01/27/05
radio version: 1.03.00
protocol version 1337.42
ext rom version: 1.11.153
i have the folowing querries:
1. would changing the rom to wwe, non arabic, speed up the machine?
2. is a newer version of the rom available?
3. how do i install a backup os, like linnux on this machine?
4. should i stick to wm3 se, or is wm5 a better os? if so, will it work on this amchine and where can i get it?
5. after a long pause, say overnight, the machine takes a good about a minute to boot up, is that normal?
6. specs of the pda say that the battery has a standby time of 172 hrs, whereas the pda shows 182 min of time, adjusted, why the discrepancy?
7. lastly, the call duration shown on the machine is 28 min calls received, and 165433 min call outs. what is that?
if can get answers to these questions i will be grateful.

PDA2 Upgrade
i have da same system
PDA2
& i want to update it

1. maybe a bit as i believe that the arabic is a 3th party software running ontop of wm it use mem it would also use a bit of cpu power
if it would matter much i dont know
2 http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Alpine_ShippedOrg
3 http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Xanadux
4. no wm5 out for alpine
5. sounds like it had a hardreset
6. batt time is by no means a exact science nor is measuring it
or displaying it
7 sounds like a bug i would use search for "clear AND calllog" or something to see if there is a way to clear it

BT Stack newer than Widcomm 1.5.0 Build 801 available

These stacks I believe are newer than the Widcomm 1.5.0 series
I think Broadcom reset the version 1.0.0
These are Broadcom 1.0.0.3000 and Broadcom 1.0.0.3500
Build 3500 is slightly unstable but newer.
These came from an i-mate patch for a PDA2K.
DO NOT USE on an i-mate PDA2K (get the orginal unhacked ones from Club i-mate).
I removed files specific to that phone and basically left just the BlueTooth stack.
Recommend a HARD RESET before installing.
I've tested theses patches on a Sprint PPC-6601 (Blue Angle CDMA phone).
Do not do a restore of a backup before or after installing this because it may restore incompatible configuration files that may crash. Build 3100 is more robust against this problem.
Hey Bro
These two are for the Qtek 9090/Xda IIs or Xda II?
I am running 2.20CHS translated with Radio 1.18 and have been unable to get this stack to work. Has anyone tried it?
The ones I posted above are hacked by me to work on the CDMA version (Namely Sprint PPC-6601).
The ones referenced in this reply below are the original patches I started with that came from i-mate club. The offical phone name that the patches are for is "i-mate™ PDA2k" (GSM Slide out keyboard). I don't know how well they would work on the Qtek 9090.
Build 3500 http://www.blueridge.net/dereck/bt/PDA2k_Bluetooth_Fix.CAB
Build 3000 http://www.blueridge.net/dereck/bt/new/OEM_WWE_122_008.sa.CAB
Yes, good link but already bad quality with all bluetooth headset.
It's a shame.
It's a shame you don't give more details.
Which phone, which patch and what happened.
Works great on my phone.
I'm using the 3100 patch from the first post in this thread on a PPC-6601 with a HBH-300. Installed on top of a HARD RESET. That has Build 1.0.0.2200.
It's almost working perfect. Once in a great while if I go out of range for a long time I just toggle bluetooth and it reconnects immediately.
Dial Up Networking and Active Sync all work.
No static. No dropouts. Will go to sleep and wake up and still be connected.
I think that the "shame" was not for you but for imate as their patch don't solve all the issues. Maybe only a bad english ?
Tried on Himalaya_SE 2.06...
I'd merged the files from 2.02 and 2.06 and get a fairly stable handsfree, but I saw your files and got greedy...
hmmm, it didn't work though. The installation freeze at splash screen after i cold reset the device.
I believe that there are still device specific entries in the cab files, but it's beyond me at this moment. :?
yes sorry. Just bad english because i am french
This website is wonderfull and a lot of information
But i bought a qtek 9090 (850 euros) and i realize that they sell some device with a lot of bug
Here is my qtek config
qtek9090
Patch fr bt 3000 or 3500 (it's the same : they are bugs both for headset quality)
Windows mobile 2003 SE 4.21.1088 build 14132
rom 1.12.20 FRE
radio rom 1.02.00
ext rom 1.12.146 FRA
Ericson 300 works good but it's too big for me. I am not robocop
But each headset i have tested with bt 3000 and 3500 becomes bad when you stay more than 1 metter from your device. There is scrashesssssssssss in the headset. You have to stay front of the device (in car for exemple) and it works perfectly.
But when i work the pda stay in my bag or other place then quality is horrible
That's why i said it's a shame from imate.
I think there is a defect on this device. I don't know what can i do to increase the audio quality when you stay far from the PDA.
If somebody can help me ????????
But i can see that everybody have the same problem and can't solve it.
Waiting for another ROM. HIHIHIHIHIHIHI they are mad to sell this device like this.
If somebody can find bt 3500 patch from imate in french i am very interested.
Thanks to everybody from xda developer : a great site

Note that I attached to the first post of this thread Build 3500 release 124 of the i-mate patch stripped down for use on PPC-6601 and VZ6600.
BT problems
Just installed the 3500 fix.
It improves slightly on the Jabra 250, but not enough to actually use it.
It Stabilized the connection between my Holux GR230 GPS and the Qtek 9090.
Hope there will be a better fix.
Try to look at the connection, problem with the Jabra is that it fluktuate from just right to zero every other second.
Nice to pay 800 Euro for something that do not work
I've added new patches to this the start of this thread.
They work primarily on PPC-6601. Read the attached notes.
Hi mswlogo,
Can you help me if you know which version works on a win2003se translated from chinees on himalaya?
Thanks
That phone is quite different.
I think some other folks are working trying to get this stack working on other phones like yours.
Most of the patches above have registry scripts run in them that will very likely not work on your phone.
The other patches assume you are already running late version BroadComm Stack.
I have HP hx4700 and the Widcomm version is 1.5.0 Build 2000
which one is newest?
That's a really good question.
I'm amazed to see BroadComm on 1.5 instead of WidComm.
What are the dates on the bluetooth files \windows\bt*.*
They are generally around 12/9/2004
It's hard to say what BroadComm and the venders are doing here.
Bluetooth stack on h6315
I just found a new bluetooth stack from:
http://www.ppcw.net/?itemid=2210#cmt9543
Installed on my t-mobile h6315. Device was previously inoperable with bluetooth headset. Device would go into power standby mode, and if bluetooth was running when it went to sleep, it would freeze requiring a soft reset. Now device wakes on power button, with bluetooth running, as it's supposed to. Device also wakes on incoming call, reconnects headset in less than 1 second, and allows me to answer call on the headset buttons. All other headset functions are working as designed, and sound quality seems good. My headset is plantronics 2500. Also, this stack adds a profile in the list for A2DP (??) high quality stereo headphones. Don't have any of these headphones, so don't know if this works on the h6315. Also, don't know if this is the same Broadcom/Widcomm stack you guys have been working with.
Installation is straightforward - put it on the device and tap it. Reset, delete existing device pairings, re-establish the device pairings, and you're ready to test.
All that patch is supposed to do is add two new bt profiles to the pda2k.
* High-Quality Audio support (A2DP)
* Keyboard support (HID)
I'm slightly suprised you got a performance gain out of it.
h6315
It's definately fixed the problems with my device hanging when it goes into standby with bluetooth running and the headset connected.
Now my question is should I install the build 3500 for the 6315 listed above? It appears to be a newer release than this. Any thoughts as to the differences? I'm having a hard time following from the thread as to all the other changes that are in this .cab, and why they are there? Can any one help summarize that?

Magician - phone sound quality?

Hi everyone.
I have an o2 xdaII mini, that I got a few days ago - which I'm very happy with except for the sound quality during a phone call.
Regardless of the speaker volume, the sound of the remote person is fairly distorted at times - almost like the internal speaker is blown.
Has anyone else experienced similar issues with this device while being used as normal phone (i.e. not on speakerphone)?
Hi, I have an MDA compact and I immediately noticed that the sound quality is VERY low...not even comparable to the P900 I had before....
and not only! I know other 3 user (they have the JAM italian version) that say the same thing as well!!! (from www.newsmobile.it)
I would like to send it back to the shop (in Germany), but I am not sure about it...
It was me to wrote above...
I am wondering also if a different RADIO-VERSION could make the difference in audio quality...
My version is:
ROM-version: 1.01.01GER
ROM-date: 10/21/04
Radio-version: 1.00.10
Protocol version: 1337.36
EXTrom: 1.01.120 GER
I repeat that I am very disappointed with audio quality in phone conversation...
My O2 XDA Mini's Radio version is 1.01.00.
It's true that the sound quality during phone call is not as good as XDA II, but I believe it is good enough for me.
It's a lot better than my old T68i and Treo 600.
Ok let me say this! I got the German T-Mobile with the German OS sound was perfect then I flashed it with English T-Mobile ROM the sound was still perfect! Then I flashed it with the iMate JAM ROM the sound became problematic with all the troubles you described so I flashed it back to T-Mobile's English ROM and the sound problems were solved again!
Conclusion the iMate ROM is buggy as fas as it concerns the sound quality and from your posts I see that the O2 has familiar problems with iMate's ROM. So I will stay with English T-Mobile ROM till a ROM upgrade will solve the problem in iMate's or O2's ROM.
Very good info, katsj
i-mate JAM (WWE)
ROM version: 1.03.00 WWE
ROM date: 11/01/04
Radion version: 1.01.00
Protocol version: 1337.38
ExtROM version: 1.03.143 WWE
Sound is decent. Not as deep/rich as my SMT 5600 (SP3), but I have no problems hearing people (or being heard)...
i-mate said that they'd have an JAM ROM update on clubimate.com soon. (who knows what 'soon' means though!)
My radio version is 1.01.00 too, and my sound quality leaves much to be desired.
I discovered today that the sound is so bad that I can't understand the remote person at all if there's any more than a minimum level of background noise (i.e. in a department store).
The info katsj gave us regarding different ROMs is promising, but a refund seems more attractive at the moment. :-(
iMate already promised a new ROM fixing this problem! I dont want any refunds! I want this incredible phone to be perfect! Maybe the sound quality needs to be fixed but it is the ONLY phone that I can make a call at my house's elevator without loosing a word! All other phone I ever tried were just dropping the call! Even SE K700i which has the reputation of the best reception!
Like katsj, I have an MDA Compact with the T-Mobile english ROM and the sound is just fine. I was using a P800 then a P900 just before I got the Compact, and I cannot tell any difference.
Very well! I will wait my SD 1GB and I will try to upload an english ROM Tmobile...
The fact is that I have a German Tmobile ROM that, in katsj experiments, should be excellent for sound quality but in my case is very bad...
Why?
one more thing: which are the JAM forums where people are complaing about sound quality? I would like to have a look by myself....
i got the imate jam and the sound is really bad... i will try the t-mobile english version and hope it corrects the problem.............
hope someone could find a fix for it soon
O2 XDA II mini here, and sound distortion is bugging...
Radio version: 1.01.00
I'va got a MDA Compact from t-Mobile German versione updated with english ROM and my audio is very good.
I've got an i-mate JAM with the following:
ROM version: 1.03.00 WWE
ROM date: 11/01/04
Radion version: 1.01.00
Protocol version: 1337.38
ExtROM version: 1.03.143 WWE
Terribles sound quality - has anyone actually flashed the ROm to the T-Mobile English version and the problem been resolved?
Otherwise it's going back for a refund - love the the device - but can't put up with the poor sound quality...
Where can I find the English T-Mobile Rom???
If the problem is just with the Radio version, can someone tell us how to update the Radio ROM only. 8)
I moved from German Tmobile ROM to WWE Tmobile ROM and AUDIO has icreased a lot in quality... I reccomend this ROM to all people that are complaying about audio quality...
ciaociao
I just moved from the P900 to the O2 XDAII mini 3 days ago. My immediate reaction when I first used it was similar to the comments posted. The sound quality is rather poor when compared to the P900. I am not sure if this is a hardware issue or a firmware issue.
Same here
XDA II mini
ROM version: 1.03.00 WWE
ROM date: 11/01/04
Protocol version: 1337.38
ExtRON version: 1.03.147 WWE
Sctrachy, tinney, lacking bass, distorts, very loud even at lowest level- speakerphone is a tad better, but lack power, probably cause the treble would low the speaker.
I'm still having trouble understanding how it is the ROM version doing this- sounds like hardware to me....but if they can fix it, I'm in!
peppepep,
Can you or perhaps someone else with the T-Mobile MDA Compact WWE radio version post it to this site.
Perhaps someone can test loading this radio version onto the I-Mate JAM ROM and see if there is improvement.
Lastly, I have heard some JAM Owners say their audio is not that bad. I wonder if this is a hardware or radio issue?
I have interest in this topic, because I will have a JAM on Monday the 3rd.
Happy New Year all,
Ed

Qtek S110 - bluetooth without phone radio on?

Hi,
Is it possible to have bluetooth running without the radio (phone part) working? Whenever I try to turn on bluetooth it insists on me turning on the phone part also.
Is there a way to turn off the phone part without switching the device to flight mode?
Thanks alot.
hi borgs.. i hv no problem at all for getting my BT on while my phone is totally switch off.. im using 02 mini too.. no problem at all

It depends on yr rom version. On newer rom version, switching off radio will switch off BT.
U can try PhoneAlarm from www.pocketmax.net. It lets U turn off the radio without affecting the BT
Thanks alot for the info.
My ROM versions are:
Qtek S110
Rom: 1.12.00 WWE (05/28/05)
Radio: 1.12.00
Protocol: 1337.42
ExtRom: 1.12.119 WWE
It looks like my ROM version is different to the information in the manual I have as, in the manual, it states that the phone can be turned off by holding the power button. On my machine, this turns off the backlight only, even if I hold it down for more than 5 seconds.
I wonder why the newer ROM versions don't allow bluetooth to be on without the phone. My reason for wanting this is I intend to use the device with a bluetooth GPS whilst hiking and, if I'm not near a mobile transmitter, this will run down my device much quicker.
I'll give the trial version of that software a try.
Thank you.
the developer maybe was in unclear state for this new version, haha

Thanks for the info. I gave PhoneAlarm a try, unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. I set a profile that had the radio off but the bluetooth on but when I switch to the profile but I cannot get it to work. It seems that on my ROM version the radio has to be on for bluetooth to be on - which to be honest is just sheer dumb.
Can you please tell me which versions of the ROM components I need and where I can get them please? I have a Qtek S110 UK - doesn't seem to have any phone network configuration on it.
Thanks
Here's a reply I just got from Qtek:
Hi Steve,
you are cotrrect - the Bluetooth works independently from the phone. please go back to your point of sale and raise this issue with them, the return is their responsibility. Kind regards, Robin

Hi,
I recently purchased a Qtek S110. I am finding that the device will not allow me to have bluetooth on when the radio (phone part) is not on. This is no good for me as I intend to use the device with a bluetooth GPS whilst out hiking. If the radio stays on then my battery will drain really fast as I will be nowhere near a phone transmitter and it will be using large amounts of power to communicate with one.
Other people tell me that their Qtek S110 allows them to have bluetooth on when the radio isn't on. To be honest this is how the phone should work, bluetooth should have nothing to do with the radio part, and I am very surprised that mine doesn't that way.
My firmware is:
ROM: 1.12.00 WWE, Radio 1.12.00, Protocol 1337.42, ExtrROM 1.12.119 WWE
If this can be fixed with a new firmware then please tell me how I do this and where I find them as I can find no mention of firmwares on any Qtek site. Otherwise is there any other way of having bluetooth only on?
Thank you,
Regards,
Steve
-----
So, they want me to send it back to my supplier but to be honest, I don't actually think its faulty - just a faulty ROM. I can now see a struggle between me and the supplier. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Steve
Ok, thanks to jackleung and kta I have now managed to get Phone Alarm to have bluetooth on and GSM off. I guess, either I was using an older version, or I wasn't quite doing it right.
But I can now confirm it to work. Seems like Qtek don't know what they're talking about or at least some firmwares may do it when others don't.
But the good news is that I don't have the hassle of returning the machine or risking flashing the firmware. £10 for the new software is far easier.
Thanks again.
There is a registry hack in this thread that sorted the problem for me and my Alpine, although the hack was currently posted in the Magician forum.
Cheerio !

XDA II Troubleshoot

Hi, i have a problem with my Himalaya Gadget sold as XDAII, why does my XDAII always turn itself off when the battery remains under 30% without "lowbat" warning before? and it won't turned on until i pluged in onto the AC charger?
and another problem is, when im doing the multitasking more than 5 program, one of them or all of them are automatically closed, why does it happen?

Dopod novendorid ROM with Windows Vista Portable & Omap.

Edited:Sorry this was meant to be added to the thread below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=49298&start=0
These guys are the ones that helped me.
This is more directed for the newbies or less experienced needing a bit of reassurance that the Dopod ROM is fine to use.
My previous Orange ROM SPL was 2.10 and is now 2.15 (I think this is relevant according to what I've read on the above and other threads).
Just to reiterate other peoples experience; I've got a SPV M600 (Prophet) and used the NovendorID Dopod ROM found in this thread. It installed hassle free within less than 10 minutes and is definately somewhat snappier thn Oranges ROM.
I have also found that Wisbar Advance (an excellent skinning apllication- changes the look of your interface and gives you alternative control over your device) in conjunction with Omapclock and Omapclockplusv0.0.4 (overclocking utility- overclocked at 240 Mhz and running at 225 Mhz according to TCPMP!) works a treat!
My device now has no speed issues at all and after a few days of use seems very stable and reliable. Only drawback is that the Camera application seems to be inferior since the upgrade to Dopod, but still acceptable (hope a patch will be released if other have had this experience).
Using:
Windows Vista portable Edition (WA2 skin) see bottom of thread for e.g.
http://xcskins.50webs.com/ourwork.html (best skin IMHO)
TomTom Navigator (GPS software)
Omapclock(Overclocking utility for the processor)
Spb Backup (Good backup software)
4 GB SD card from MobyMemory (for all my software except Wisbar Advance- though it works well off the storage card) with no issues
Total Commander (to edit registry - changed the Windows bootscreen)
.....and lots more software with no issues at all.
Thanks to all those that made it possible for us all to benefit from it.
Incidentally, I used lokiwiz03 (get it at buzzdev.net) to Sim unlock my M600 before i did all other ROM upgrade and software installation.
HTC Prophet (was an Orange M600)
SIM unlocked (using Lokiwiz03 - now using o2 SIM)
ROM version: 2.15.13.27 WWE
ROM date: 3/9/06
Radio version: 02.19.21
Protocol version: 4.1.13.09
ExtROM version: 2.15.13.121
Camera on Prophet OK on Dopod!!
Tested extensively since ROM upgrade and whilst there does appear to be a lag whilst in viewfinder mode and whilst taking indoor pictures, I must say that outdoor pictures are still excellent. So I personally don't think a camera patch is needed anymore to address picture quality, but it would be nice if something could be done about the blurry laggy viewfinder display.
