Does anyone know of a way to permenantly remove the MSMETADATA folder on a storage card?
What is it that generates it?

It is your media library index file that is created by Windows Media Player.
Delete the folder and you delete your media library!!

WM2005 - Showing contents of /My Documents in the SD Card

In wm2003SE in the file "Browse" dialog box, even the files in my SD in the My Documents folder were being listed.
In WM5 this is not happening. Only files in My Documents on the actual Device are being shown.
Does anyone know what has to be done for the OS to search the SD card My Documents folder as well when its browsing files.
Anyone?

Media player not importing from memory card

Media player did work fine for a while but now won't import from the 2gb memory card. In library it is not listed as an option, search turns up a load of tracks but they are not added to the playlist. Is this a known bug or is it time for a hard reset?
Thanks
Done a hard reset and still the same issue, it will only add files from storage, not storage card. Maybe I'll try a format of the card next..
Had the same problem
Delete the MSMETADATA and WMDRM folders on the storage card and update the library.

Cache files for media library?

yesterday i had a severe problem with the standard media applications (video/musicplayer and gallery).
none of them would show me any of my media files when started.
the video player said "no sd card inserted", the musicplayer crashed with "music database to large" right after i started it and the gallery showed no pictures at all.
i was able to start a video by directly clicking on it within the filemanager.
i removed the external sd card, but this behaviour did not change after that.
than i copied all content from the internal sd card to the external sd card, formatted the internal sd card within the phone and than moved all the files back from the external to the internal sd card.
i did NOT overwrite any files that were created after formatting the card.
this finally helped and the media applications now work again as before.
my guess is, that the media database somehow got corrupted and therefore i would like to know the file names where the database is stored.
than, if this happens again, i can just delete the relevant files.
Its a hidden file in /mnt/sdcard/.gallerycache/ delete that and media scanner should rebuild the cache.

Media on internal storage not being picked up

Any media files I put on the internal storage are not being picked up by either the video player or music player. I can still access/play these files through the file manager. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
Thanks
Try Rescan Media by Aditya Talpade on the Market, solved the same problem for me.
There are two versions of the app one for rooted phones and one not.
Thanks, but that did not work.
The media scanner works and does pickup media on a microsd, but not on the internal storage.
I put a video file in the /sdcard folder of the internal storage and not the subfolders. Now the video application picks it up. Any idea what may be wrong with the subfolders? I did do a format of the internal storage.
Do you have a rogue .nomedia file lying in any of your subfolders?

Not in the usbStorage folder. There are .nomedia files in other subfolders.
You cant put anything in the /sdcard folder that's the folder that becomes the external micro sd card when you disconnect/unmount the drives.
Just make a new folder in the root of the internal storage and call it whatever you like. Then put your videos in there.
So just make folders in the /sdcard/usbstorage for media?
Just to confirm, what is the proper procedure for loading media onto the internal storage? Connect with usb utilities, copy media, disconnect?
Connect your phone in mass storage mode to PC.
Open Phone via windows explorer .
Make new folder video
Copy a few videos in to this folder .
Via file explorer on phone locate and open a video in this folder .
Should now see them as normal .

Phone doesn't recognize media?

My phone's apps like Play Music and gallery isn't recognizing the media i have on my external SD card. I can see and open the files in file mananger through. I'm on CM 12.
Is there a .nomedia file in the main directory of the SDcard? If yes, remove it.
Did you freeze Indexservice, Media Storage or MediaScanner? If yes, undo it.
