I am planning to do the Big Storage hack, and I'm just wondering if it's worth it to upgrade the ROM and radio at the same time.
I've read a lot on the wiki and also on the forum, but while there' a lot on how to upgrade, I couldn't find much on the difference / improvement between 1.13 and previous versions.
Right now I have ROM 1.12WWE and Radio 1.12.10. The ROM has been pretty stable for me, and I have no complaint about the radio reception and voice quality neither.
I wonder if there's any significant upgrade or new features on 1.13 ... otherwise I really have no big reason to mess with something that works fine for me.
I recently went through the whole upgrade process.
Updated the rom to 1.13 and left the radio at 1.12, also got the big-storage hack.
I've noticed no improvements due to the rom upgrade. However the big-storage hack is the best thing yet cause you get all the extra space (ofcourse) and it gets rid of all the cusomised junk.
There is a downside to this that eerytime you hard-reset (for whatever reason) you lose all your data since there is no extended rom to read from on the reboot. So I just keep all my cab files zipped on the storage card.
I did the whole upgrade in the end (ROM and radio to 1.13, and big storage hack as well).
I have not noticed ANY improvement since the upgrade to 1.13, both ROM and radio. I do not get better reception (or I don't notice it anyways) and I also don't notice any added feature from ROM1.13, nor does it run any stabler than 1.12.
That said, I don't think it's any worse or any less stable neither ... so for those who's going to do the big storage hack (which you'll have to backup and restore your ROM and go through the whole hard-reset / restore anyways) I'd say it doesn't hurt to upgrade at the same time, just for the sake of "newer version's gotta be better".
For those who're not planning to do the big storage hack, I'd say don't bother. It doesn't provide any noticeable improvement and it's not worth the hassle.
As for the big storage hack, well it isn't exactly what I thought but it isn't bad neither. I thought by doing the big storage hack, I'd free up more space for program memory. Turns out it only gives you more STORAGE space (as its name big STORAGE hack suggests, I guess) but not more program memory, which is what I constantly run low on. And getting more storage memory isn't a biggie for me, because I have a 1GB SD card which I only use ~ 30% of at the moment.
That said, at least having another 20MB of storage space allows me to free up some programs that cannot be installed on the SD card to be installed on the storage space, thus freeing up stroage memory, so that I can tilt the bar to allocate more RAM for program memory.
ROM 1.13 is very stable but no big difference between Radio 1.12 and 1.13. BS is very usefull. I have TT6, WorlMate Pro, SK Tools, Photo Contact and photos, Resco Suite, SPB Pocket Plus, WebIS Pocket Informant, Rings, and Temporay Internet Files all in BS and that leaves me a total of 39.27MB of free RAM. West EU, USA and Canada TT6 Maps are store on a 2GB SD.
I have a question though, I upgraded from ROM 1.11 to 1.13. Now in my old rom, once the phone switched off I could revive it only by pressing the on/off switch but now I can revive it by using any of the phone function keys (dial, disconnect, contacts or calendar). Is this normal?
You must turn on the button block function, on settings.
Yeah I guess another 20MB of memory never hurts ... but I have a 1GB SD card which is only ~ 30% full most of the times ... so I don't really need the extra 20MB. The biggest upside is certain programs will have problem running on memory but is ok (or semi-ok) running on storage memory ... so I'll be able to free up a bit of main memory that way.
How BigStorage helps?
The 20MB may be less but think of SD getting corrup very often. And someone like me depending on data such as SPB Finance and stuff, if SD gets corrupt, all data lost! Biggest nightmare i faced once.
BigStorage space never gets corrupt! and you can use it for stable data. Also for installation of stuffs that takes up lot of space in Main Memory.
For example, pocket music, resco file explorer. If you install Resco FExplorer in BS, you can use it even if you swap memory cards! Make sense?

Last months ive upgraded my magician to BS. After few times playing around, there are some features that are not available on my magician. What's really bugging me, my bluetooth cannot be turned on. It always says "Turn Off Flight Mode First".
So my questions, after upgraded to BS. Which cab files on ExtRom that is compulsary to be installed.
Sorry for my bad english . Thx.
BT functionality is embedded in the radio rom, so there's no need of additional cab files for it to work.
The BT problem you have is a result of a dumb restriction by the OS where you must turn on radio to turn on BT. But if you get any 3rd party BT toggling appz, you can turn BT on / off independent of the radio.

Yup. With 3rd party such as Bluesoleil can activate my BT. So i have to use 3rd party appz? and bchs patch for a2dp depends on the original BT appz. That sucks .

Any idea whether iMate ever gonna release a 128Mb Universal?
Anyone could have installed more RAM chips?
IIRC someone has already done this as the Universal does have room for more RAM but the device would not see or use the extra RAM. However with the leaps forward in reverse engineering this device that members are doing on this forum, perhaps using the additional RAM is not far away?
Regards
Several companies offer service to make magician 128mb
Expansys and othere offer a service that voids warranty but upgrades the magician memory to 128mb.
Several users reported an increase in speed.
Was costly and did not include WI FI
Shame they have left the 2.5mm stero connector and not gone with a 3.5mm.
actually we are talking about RAM only. and since now I did not felt the need of more ram.
any of you ?
Think there was a thread somewhere that leads to an article on more RAM...... somthing to the effect of more RAM = shorter battery life....
But I could live with a shorter battery life if it's gonna be smoother!!
I just want the current RAM to function properly --I would be happy if there was a fix for the memory leakage.
I would prefer more ROM rather than RAM. RAM is just for running programs, currently 64MB is fine for my Dopod900.
But if it could be upgraded with more ROM, ie. more space for storage (based on WM5 architecture), I would be pleased with that.
i did try to add aditional RAM before. but OS or Device is not allow to read that.
Another RAM chip still in my Jasjar.

I guess we'll have to wait for Pocket PC Techs to figure out the RAM upgrade for Universal.
Of course such upgrade will invalidate any werranty...
However I have to say that I'm not really sure if it's needed. I'm runing my Universal (Qtek 9000) without even closing applications (I'm using Magic Button, but have close option disabled) and for now it's working out fine - no problems yet.
Hi, i was just wondering, are there ANY apps which work better when installed on the main memory? I know people have seen performance increases when installing some apps, such as media players, on the SD card, but what about others?
so far my main memory is empty, but I installed Pocket hack master on the main memory..mainly because that way i can use it no matter which SD card i am using.
thanks
p.s. ive managed to get up to 624mhz with the stand PHM settings if anyone still cares about how some universals get up to 624 fine while others crash/hang or fail the test.
p.s. by turning off 3g, and using gsm, ive got much better reception, gone from 0bars to 1 bar, to 3-full most the time, and video playback is less choppy, so i assume its faster, and this is with PHM set on 520 only

Problems loading to storage card
I have uninstalled v2.1 & tried to re-install this version. Keep getting an error that it will not install & to try another location (ie main memory).
Tried a soft re-set. Still no joy.
Anyone else managed to install on a memory card?
I have it on the memory card as it is around 5.5MB's

Have the same problem...
Tried to install to memory card and main memory and always the same " try another location "
Update: removed all registry keys from previous skype version, soft reset, and then installed without problems.
Any news of Skype using the TYTN front Cam?
Have used the new version 2.2 today and it's nice but don't think it works with webcam yet.
Has anyone heard if Skye will produce a version that enables the front cam on tytn for video calls?

Hello,
Did you also get that message :"could not start Skype" then "couldn't find all the necessary files to start Skype. Please try to install Skype again. Skype will now quit."
If yes how did you remove all registry keys from previous Skype version ?
If it's not the case, anyone has any idea where the problem comes from ? The skype version is 2.2.00.20 (might be that there are some parts missing in it ?)

How is the lag time on GPRS or EDGE networks? Is it worth installing if you're rarely around a wifi point?
I installed it and it worked fine. Was amazed as the original needed a 300mhz processor and ofc ours only have 200.
Went straight on, and works identical to Skype on my computer.
Just need to convince work to buy a wireless network and I will be laughing
The version is 2.2.0.20 and I just installed it off the skype website.
It was working fine for me before over GPRS now it won't connect for some reason.
It works for me!
I've installed "lowCPU" version on my Qtek 9100 SD card.
It starts fine, it works fine.
Seems to be much faster and/or better custommized then non "lowCPU" 2.1 version.
Certainly feels a little more developed than my previous version of Skype. Call quality seems to have increased. I like the Skype Today plugin also.
aww... if theres any kind of upgrade for lowCPU ppc's for VoIP programs like X-lite so i can use my VoIPstunt account...
Cool! works on my wizard.
How can I get it to route the sound through my earpiece, or my bluetooth headset, instead of going to the speakerphone? It echos badly on speakerphone, and everyone else can hear my conversations.

yeah, i really dont like the speakerfone stuff...
Speakerphone???
Hi to all,
it works very well on echo123, since there are no echo cancellation issues, however in the real world the external loudspeaker=echo is simply a disaster...any suggestions on the use of the internal loudspeaker as in a normal telephone?

they are still working on fixing that, as of now that version only works with the external speaker.
Hi,
I've just installed this skype on my Qtek 9100, all seems to work great but I cant hear anyone.
They can hear me fine but I hear nothing.
Any ideas as to what I could be doing wrong?
how much does it tax the CPU?
I noticed they have different versions of the same beta for different models.
The Hermes and the Universal are redirected to this page (High BETA)
http://www.skype.com/download/skype/mobile/downloading_high_beta.html
while the Wizard is directed to this page (Low BETA)
http://www.skype.com/download/skype/mobile/downloading_low_beta.html
Both bpages display the same version numbers and release dates. Infact unless you look at the URL you can't even tell it's a different file.
I tried downloading both. The Low CPU version is only 4.50 MB and teh High CPU version is 4.85 MB.
I keep wondering now if there is anything missing in the Low CPU version.
Can anybody shed some light on this???
Hello all
I've done lots of searching on here and elsewhere and I've found lots of useful info but no definitive answer to this...
Until recently I was using TT5.21 with the original GB-only map on an unbranded 512MB SD card on my 3-year-old Himalaya (02 XDAII) with no problems. I then upgraded to the TT5 v6.60 Western Europe map and needed a new, larger SD card. Realising that my Himalaya is of advancing age, I avoided the latest high-speed cards and settled for a basic Kingston 2GB card.
Since then my TT has periodically frozen - often in one particular spot that I pass regularly, always whilst travelling in the same direction (edit: I pass the spot most days travelling both east and west but TT only freezes when going west). I have put this down to the well-documented issue of the Himalaya having insufficient oomph to power both the card reader when it is reading the TT map and the phone handshaking with a new cell.
I have uninstalled some little-used apps from storage memory and used the slider to allocate as much memory as possible to programs (original 02 WM2003 1.72 ROM). This has improved matters somewhat (I presume that the Himalaya does not have to read the map so often, thus reducing the chance of this activity coinciding with a cell change - am I right?) but I still get occasional freezes and only a soft reset and restarting TT sorts it out.
So far this has only happened on the open road and hasn't caused me too much trouble yet. However if I was in the city on an unfamiliar route it could get me into big trouble!
My question is - would a ROM upgrade sort this out? what about an updated driver for the card reader (is there such a thing or is it built into the ROM?)? am I using the wrong spec of SD card? or is it a hardware problem with the Himalaya that can never be fixed?
I have also read that an MMC card may solve the problem as it doesn't use as much power - any comments?
Thanks in advance
The Doctor
Sounds familiar..the only solution for me, was to obtain 2gb mmc card, and that solved my problems. I also had kingston 2gb, which was said to be compatible, but really wasn't.
Fixed!
Hi all
In the end I took Jarno's advice and switched to a 2GB MMC card. It's now been in use for several weeks with not a single freeze - thanks for the tip, Jarno666!
Of course, now that I've posted this the damned thing will of course freeze on the way home...
...the upside being that if it doesn't, I will know that it is really, really fixed.
Cheers

Hi,
I finally took the plunge and flashed my Orange SPV M700 (HTC Trinity P3600) and upgraded to WM6. Fantastic - wished I'd done it ages ago. I followed the excellent TrinityGuides instructions referenced from XDA-Developers Trinity Wiki. My only hiccup while doing the upgrade was choosing which ROM to use. I didn't realise that the Orange SPV M700 phones are in fact P3600, therefore I had a number of failed attempts inadvertantly flashing with P3600i ROMs until I realised what the problem might be. A few XDA-Developers searches revealed that the FInix_3_7_2_Normal ROM seemed to work well for most P3600's, so that's the one I went for.
I'm now running:
- Hard SPL: Olipro 1.20
- Radio: 1.50.08.11
- ROM: FInix_3_7_2_Normal - actually gives you WM6.1
I flashed two weeks ago and everything's running at 100%. Just the ability to use a phone-pad T9 input method for emails and SMS's was worth the upgrade alone, not to mention loads of other benefits that I'm discovering every day.
Only two niggles, which I wonder if someone can help me with...
Niggle number 1 is quite trivial: I actually liked some of the WM5 notifications sounds - but they're not all present in the WM6 ROM. Can anyone tell me where I could download these from. I note that WM6 allows you to use mp3 files for notification sounds so even getting them in mp3 format would be fine.
Niggle number 2 is a bit more of a hassle: I have a 4gb storage card which I keep permanently installed in the HTC (I now have an 8gb one on order). As well as my pictures and mp3, this storage card also holds all my WM apps. Every few months I hard reset my HTC and reinstall everything - its nice to have a clean device - particularly if I've been experimenting with other apps. Therefore its simply a case of installing all the apps cabs straight off the storage card. No need to get connected to a PC. While running WM5, I used an unlock cab, which I created via the Orange Developers web site, to get rid of the application lock so I could install my apps. However (and here's the niggle) when I run the app unlock cab on my new ROM I get a "not trusted certificate" , or some such, message and the installation aborts. The only resolution I've found is to run SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe on my PC while connected to the HTC. I'd like to remove this need to be tethered to the PC when I hard reset, therefore can anyone please advise how I can achieve the same outcome as running SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe, preferably by running a cab file from the storage card.
Thanks.
Just a final word... for me, I only need one device in my pocket - my HTC Trinity P3600 - with this one device in addition to the mobile phone and camera functionality, my apps give me the following:
- obvious: email, calendar, contacts all wirelessesly sync'd with my work network
- SlingMobile gives me all the UK Freeview TV channels with DVR capability - requires a bit of kit back home which can be cheaply set up by buying off eBay.
- Satnav via TomTom Mobile (plus also Google maps) using the onboard GPS
- Laptop 3G broadband connectivity using PdaNet on which I can simultaneously access the internet via my HTC at the same time as making/receiving calls (this was the main driver for the WM6 upgrade).
- Full screen Internet browsing experience with Opera 9.5 (so much better than IE).
- Dual (or even quad) timezone display, alarms, etc with Spb Time.
I also recommend FastBlueTooth switcher, which allows you to set up one of the programmable buttons to toggle bluetooth on/off - very useful way to quickly and easily put bluetooth on only when going hands free and saving the battery by easily turning it off when not using the hands-free.
