TomTom not working. I don't have retail version - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi all, new here, just got an XDAIIi.
Am trying to load tomtom5.1, and also find other useful programs. I did a search on how to load it, all worked, but when I open the program, it says no maps. The maps are definatly on the memory card. Is it something obvious?
Also, any programs you can all suggest?
Cheers
Chris
Oops, cant spell tonight...

HI, create a folder called TomTom under My Documents/ in your memory card and put all the files in the TomTom folder, once you load the Navigator it will load the map. Hope this can help.

yet another TT5 question

I am trying, desperately, to install TomTom 5.21 on my MDA Vario.
This afternoon I downloaded this version and installed according to txt file attached.
After starting the program I can choose language, right or left handed, km or miles, time but then after choose the voice and clicking next it hangs ?!
I have a SD with the Great Britain map on there.
Why does it hang? Anyone seen this before and found a solution?
unzip the attached file
copy the folder tomtom to My Device/My Doucuments than start tt5
I had the very same problem. the way I did it was to install everything apart from the voice files. start tomtom as normal and set it up. it should bypass the voice bit and start. once started just add the voice files to the tomtom folder in my documents. worked fine for me after that.
cheers
the magic fix for this is can be found by THE SEARCH BUTTON.
How many ppl need to start a thread for tomtom?

Tom Tom, I dont want to remove it.

Hello All,
Recently i have installed tom tom 5 with gb map and voices as well, but for some reason its slows down the magician, i guess the memory does'nt allow
heavy programs. All i want to know, may somehow i can upgrage ram or rom ? OR transfer whole tom tom into my sd card its 1 gb anyway. I copied tom tom cab files and
gb map plus voices in to sd card and run them from there, i thought its gonna be installed in sd but may be it did'nt.
Does anybody came with this experience before please let me know.
Regards .
Thanks

You can do both. There are companies who offer to upgrade RAM from 64MB to 128MB. I had this done by a company in Germany (can't find the link right now), and there are others in other parts of the world.
However, you can also just move TomTom to your SD card, which is quite a bit cheaper
Plan A: It's been a while since I installed TomTom on my Magician, but I really think ActiveSync asked me if I want to install it to the default location. If you chose "no" there, you'll get a list of alternative locations, including the SD card (must be in the PocketPC at that time, of course). Maybe someone can confirm this - then all you'll have to do is to uninstall (from the PocketPC only, not from the PC), then re-install TomTom.
Plan B: If Plan A doesn't work, you can copy the .cab files to your PocketPC. But then, instead of just opening them, get cabinstl (http://www.s-k-tools.com/util.html). Run it once, and tick "associate cabinstl with CAB files". After that, you can just double-tap .cab files as usual, and cabinstl will appear. In the "Path" line, enter a directory on your SD card to extract the cab to it.
Additionally, there are a few other things you can try:
- there is a registry settings that contains the DLL path, i.e. a list of directories Windows Mobile will scan to find DLLs. If you add a directory on your SD card to that, you can move most of the big DLLs (not only TomTom's) to that directory. Use Resco Explorer for moving. If you don't want to da that manually, try MemMaid (http://www.dinarsoft.com), which can do that automatically.
Note: I found that moving Today Screen DLLs may cause problems, so you should leave them where they are.
- your Magician has more memory than you think. Try searching the forum for "Big Storage". This allows you to gain an internal flash area of 27 MB - large enough to install most programs there, which is exactly what I did.
Hope I could help you. My MDAc is as fast as ever, even with TomTom.
Cheers
Daniel

Help installing Tomtom 7 on Touch HD/Blackstone

Hi everyone.
Please can you help me to install tomtom 7 on my HD/Blackstone. This is my first PDA/phone like this , and I am kinda struggling.
I have downloaded the Tomtom 7.910.9185, with maps of western europe 1gb.815.2024
The package I downloaded had 3 versions of tomtom7 compressed.
QVGA black, QVGA blue, VGA black.
I am now lost, I have read about cab files, sending to the root file of the storage card, but I cant figure this out.
Is there an idiots guide, (I am a total newb and Idiot) showing how to do this. Maybe one of you guys has a webpage or thread with it all easily put down.
Your help would be most appreciated please.
Rgds
Neil

Does it have bigger POI icons?
Cause i've installed QVGA , it's full screen and looks nice but hte POI icons are little.
Or maybe that just tomtom 7
Hi,
I don't know if you already found how to do this but i will try to give you a simple guide:
1. copy the file VGA black.cab to your SD card root.
2. click on the file once (a .cab file can be compared to a .exe file on a pc)
3. After install, copy your map western europe 1gb.815.2024 to the root of your SD-card. Make sure that when you open the folder of the map, you should see files and not another map otherwise it won't work!
This should get you up and running tomtom 7.
POIs are small 'cause the TT version available run quite correctly on HD, but IT'S NOT the right version for HD, simply it doesn't already exists
Thanks,
Have managed to get the program to install, but no hope with the maps.. Keeps saying they aint activated..

So the problem ain't the software itself, is the map activation. You have 2 choices:
1: click here http://www.tomtom.com and have your VISA ready, or...
2: MOD EDIT....WAREZ ARE NOT ALLOWED HERE

Tomtom navigation - where to install maps
Hi all,
I'm spend a lot of time on many forums to find how to propp install Tomtom navigation (I'm using Tomtom 7).
Installing a Tomtom program is so simple but the maps thats another storry.
All informations what I'm found was telling you need to create a folder "maps" in root of the memory card and than copy all files from your PC folder of actual map there. That information is OK just if you want to use a single map.
Problem is if you want use more maps than one.Yo just simple can't coppy contens of two or more maps into the same forder.Or if you try to copy whole folders with maps into yours "maps"folder on your card the Tomtom not see that.
So what to do ???It's really simple.
1. You do not need to create the "maps" folder
2. All what you need to do is copy whole maps folders into the
" My Documents " folder on your storage card (not on" My Device " memory !!! )
Its work perfect,I'm use more than 3 maps (UK+IR, Western+Central EU, Eastern EU,...)
So maybe this info help some people whos need more maps.
Richard
I purchased the map from TOMTOM website, but when I tried to install it using tomtom home, it doesn't allow me to download

Hi stevenyu24, vidamusic et al with TT7 issues. Suggest you read through the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432410&highlight=TomTom and pay special attention to bmcconalogue post. All your problems should be solved there.
Best regards,
Just for you guys,
I have Tomtom Home 2.6 installed on my macbook and I can get MapShare working free with my TomTom navigator 7 installed on my Touch HD.
Just connect it as a Disk Device then when TomTom asks which device to use, choose the one on the Storage Card (the map is on the storage card and the app is on the internal storage)
Then, you will get free maps' correction !

They dont need to be in My Documents. They can simply be on the root of your SD card. So SD:\Europe & SD:\USA would work fine as folders for two seperate maps. TT auto searches the route of SD and looks in all top level folders to see if it recognises the contents as a map.

Tomtom 7.910(9185) "no maps found" [SOLVED]

Hi all!
I need your help cause I really can't go on with this error!
- TT is installed in: Storage Card\Program Files\Navigator (original exe)
- The map is in: Storage Card\Western_and_Central_Europe
(version 8.15.2003 with dct)
It doesn't work, iven if I move the map in other positions inside the card...
I've installed another map, but no way, same error.
I've changed OS rom, same error.
I've changed the copy ot the TT, same error.
I'm going crazy, please help!
Any suggestion?
Keep trying...
sorry double post
You are using the wrong version 815.2003 does not work on a PDA
You want the 2023/2024 versions.
Good luck
Thanx!!! I'll try the correct map ASAP!
Thanx again now it works!!!!!!
