I really like this program, and am really thinking about getting it. But I can't get it to connect through my GPRS connection. I can connect my TyTN through my home WiFI connection, but I can't do it from any other connection, even when I turn my firewall off.
Am I using the wrong IP address? I'm using a Linksys Wireless G Band Router and Roadrunner cable internet.
you can not connect with your GPRS, it just will not work!!! It only works using WIFI

I actually tried using someone else's WiFI, and it didn't work either.
I've connected to my computer through gprs, it worked fine (in germany, but i think it doesn't matter..).
You have to redirect the port you're using with Z2 in case you're connected through a router.
Of course you have not to turn your firewall off, just allow Z2 on your PC to act as a server (don't know what firewall you're using).

It does work over any kind of connection; see my latest roundup of all these questions.

This means you have either a firewall or NAT'ing.
If you can't redirect port 81, then, use it in the callback mode.
I've explained ALL this in my generic article on all these questions; see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288506 for more info.

Hi all, i managed to connect my XDA II to Activesync successfully and everything synchronize perfect.
i am just having hard time to make my XDA II Connect to the internet using the Activesync connection.
i went to options --> Rules ---> pass through , i have 2 choices here in connections 1. work and 2. internet !!! i wonder what they mean, any way i tried both and was not able to connect to the internet. do i need to make any changes to my XDA II Connections!!!
thanks for your help
I believe in your Connections in XDA II, you need to select my network card connects to Internet and select the Internet option in pass thru settings in ActiveSync
adapter!!!
ok i selected the the network card conects to: "The internet"
what about the other section. the adapter to modify, which one i should select!! i have 4 choices here:
1. NE2000
2. L2TP
3. ASYNCmAC
4. PPTP
My understanding is that you don't need to worry about those 4 adapters to get pass through to work. The most important thing is that both the pc passthrough connection and the Xda ii network card connection are the same. I.e. they are either both set to "Work", or both set to "The Internet". I use the "work" setting
i think i will break this stupid device :x , i tried both "work" and "the internet" non of them worked for me. and when i go to my XDA II Device and i change my network card to connect to work and click ok and check it again, it appear going back to the internet selection!!!! my PC is connected 24h/day to the internet through ADSL and i can't make this thing to use it

Are your ISP using Proxy server?, if yes configure proxy setting in your XDAII device.
I was able to surf the internet using both pass through options .
I had this problem and in the end I found that if I enabled a public proxy:
212.42.175.155 port 80
then the XDA would connect to the internet through active sync.
i can't get my xdaii to activesync, just keeps coming up as guest? It synced OK the first time... now just guest only. any suggestions.
Try removing xda from cradle, delete partnership in activesync and then reconnect to establish a new partnership.
A complete removal/restore of activesyn may also work but is more tedious. Make sure it is the latest version also.

Yes abo_khaleel , my ISP is using Proxy server. Where exactly in XDA II i can configure the proxy server. i mean in the network card section. I know when i make a GPRS or data connection i can see Proxy settings there but with the activesync i can't see it.

Not sure about xda2, since I have I-mate, but:
After conneting thought activesync, click signal signal strength icon (on the top of the screen), then click settings, this will open connections settings, then click: edit my proxy server. if you have more one than connection, try them one by one.
I was just wondering....
why would u want to on the internet on ur XDA via activesync?...isnt ur PC online already?...i just dont see the point just seems like if u were to buy a microwave that needs to be put in the hot oven to work...or is just me?????????? :?:

i can see your point but my XDA II is connected to my PC using bluetooth and since it is a feature that i can use while i am every where at home why not having it , i mean i don't have to sit all days at my desk to do my internet work, i can use the net even when i have boring friends visiting me

But I am still looking for my 2nd problem RETHETING

I'm not sure if it will work that way... I know with a Windows Mobile device you can, but never tried under Android. Perhaps there is an option somewhere in the HTC Sync program?
There definitely isn't an option in HTC Sync to do this. In fact, I don't know of any way of generically sharing your internet connection over USB. If your work PC has a Wi-Fi card, you could easily share the internet connection over an ad-hoc network.
Edit: In principle, you could also share your internet connection over Bluetooth but I'm pretty sure the Tattoo doesn't support the necessary Bluetooth profile(s) for such connections.

I think Wi-fi ad-hoc connection is for rooted androids only and I don't found any rooted tattoo till date. I tried another option, using Connectify on my Windows 7 laptop and sharing Wi-fi. But still unable to success browsing, eventhough my phone can be connected with my Laptop through this connectify.
Anybody have success browsing it kindly share.

Uh, what? I'm sharing my internet connection over Wi-Fi with my MacBook right now and my Tattoo can connect to it and access the internet just fine.
Edit: You're probably thinking of android-wifi-tether, which lets you share your phone's 3G/2G mobile connection via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

If you are talking about tethering, it is OK, I am just satisfied with USB tethering, it is working now, but What I am actually looking for is about RETHETING just converse connection of that tethering. (I know there is no word like RETHETING BUT I don't know what is the right term of just converse connection of tethering.) The problem is, I want to share wired Internet at my working place with my HTC tattoo phone as I have limited GPRS subscription to save some money and to enjoy speed of that wired internet.
I thought running Connectify on my Windows 7 laptop connected to that wired Internet as a Wi-fi hotspot then connected by this android phone (Tattoo) is the right solution.
Yes, it is connected pinging is ok but could not access internet from my Tattoo. May be some firewall problem or something I cannot figure out. If some one have solution it is most welcome.

No, I was talking about "retheting"; my MacBook has a wired (ethernet) connection to the internet and is sharing it over Wi-Fi, which my Tattoo can connect to and use.
I did some reading up on Connectify (and was surprised to find that Micro$oft still hasn't quite implemented the feature natively on Windows yet) and it should work. I don't have a Wi-Fi card on my desktop PC so I can't test it myself but perhaps you are having something like a firewall problem.

I have tried with Connectify and also Virtual Router on my Windows 7 but could not success. I think you are lucky to own a macbook. My Windows 7 is RC so it might be because of that or Tattoo may lack something.
Regarding that android-wifi-tether, it reports as rootted device required and could not help my requirement.
I thought you were talking about an usb internet sharing connections...
If you want to do it via wifi, is pretty easy, since ALL windows have the ad-hoc functionality made by default. Problem is that if you use it with your wifi chipset then you won't be able to conect directly to other wifis if it is your main connect unless you buy another wifi card for this purpose...
in windows 7 you can find this functionality under the connection center... in windows xp is a little bit difficult because you have to configure the adapter into the wifi adapter properties in network connections tabs.

I also thought that it should be very easy, and tried all possible means that I know but could not success. One funny thing is, I can get IP address resolved of any URL on my tattoo after wifi connection. It means it can reach DNS server and can resolve IP address but still could not able to browsing. May be some firewall or Antivirus is blocking the browsing on my Windows 7 pc I need to check thoroughly.
If someone have good explanation, it will be very helpful... thanks.
Wifi is working
I was making my laptop complicated by setting 3 static IP networks..as my work place has 3 gateways and I manually change gw when required. I clean it up and set to only one. Now Internet through Wifi of Laptop is OK I am using Connectify on Windows7.
Thx for the patience.
But still waiting for solution on USB "Retheting"
I spent 3 hours trying to get this work on my HD2 but it just CANT connect to my laptop. They can find the ad-hoc network but never successfully connected. All i wanna do is to share my ADSL to the HD2.
Somebody help plz?? Thanks in advance!~
It seems HD2 does not choose channels. So it very often happens that the channels it uses for WiFi router are already used by some other, much stronger source (routers). For example I can connect to my HD2 at work .. but not at home, because there is conflict with my home router.

in activesync there is a setting that allows you to do this very thing, yes it does mean you have the cable connected but hey whats the issue with that !!
it could possibly work the way you want it too but you will have to setup your laptop to be a GATEWAY FOR OTHER DEVICES FIRST !
I supposed you did enable internet connection sharing on your laptop, right? Otherwise you may create a ad-hoc network but you won't connect to Internet with your phone
I'm searching like crazy but can't find a thing.
When I connect my HD2, I get to choose 3 modes. The last is to give free my internet connection the the connected PC. But then I can just choose my 3G connection and not the WLAN.
Is there a way to add WLAN as well? It means I would use my HD2 as a WLAN stick.
thx tomylee
go to startmenu->tools->wifi router
thx, but there i can choose only from cell connection or COM1
Am I right in thinking that you want to connect your phone to a Wireless network, and then use it as a modem for your PC?
If I am then I'm sorry, but this can't (currently) be done.
Best option? Get a Wifi dongle off eBay. They're dirt cheap - I saw one for less than £5!!
OK THX
strange that they block this
This is possible if you use WMWifirouer. http://global.wmwifirouter.com/features/

You cannot use your phone as a wireless adapter (connect it to your PC and pick up a wireless signal)
You can connect your phone to your PC and use the 3G on your phone for a PC Internet connection (i use this on my laptop sometimes when i need proper access to Outlook)(this is 1 reason i don't have an iPhone)
You can set up your phone as a router (other PC/devices find it and use the phones 3G connection)
You can connect your phone to the PC, and get the phone to use your DSL (broadband) connection by default and NOT your phones 3G.

I use the bluevpn app (it does not require root) to tether with my cellphone via bluetooth. I imagine it should work to tether with your pc as soon as you find a proper configuration for your pc.
