Any app to move mail/attachments to storage card? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Feeling a little leary about doing reg edits on my device, so I'm wondering if anyone has a cab that will move the mail/attachments to my storage card? I have done the PIE Cache switch, but not the mail yet. If it hasn't been made, I'll just deal with "trying" to figure out the reg edits.

there is a hack to this, i cannot remember where it is exactly, just search the forum and you will find it.

Yeah I'm trying to avoid the RegEdit. There has to be someone who has made this cab.

Alrighty... Now I'm a bit confused. I tried to follow the directions below (from Mike Temporale's site) and can't get to the proper RegEdit. I really must be doing something wrong. Anyone care to help out with this one? I am available via IM or phone in the US. Just drop me a PM and I can either call you or I'll give you my IM address (sorry not posting it online).
Also I'm using Total Commander for RegEdits because PHM wouldn't install properly.

Another thing you can do is to move the storage of email and attachments out of main memory and on to the storage card. This change involves making changes to the registry, so you'll want to be extra safe when making this change. First thing you need to do is create a couple folders on your storage card. The first folder should be \Storage Card\Mail\ and the second folder should be \Storage Card\Mail\Attachments\ You can call them whatever you want, but I would recommend using the standard names. Once these are created, you'll need to edit your registry. Open your favourite Windows Mobile registry editor and browse to HKRY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\MAPI and create 2 new string values. The first should be called PropertyPath and should have a value matching the mail folder you created. The second should be called AttachPath and should have a value matchings the attachments folder you created. So PropertyPath = \Storage Card\Mail and AttachPath = \Storage Card\Mail\Attachments

maybe this is not what you're looking for but you can just modify this in your inbox. just go to the mailacount, select menu -> extra -> options -> storage -> and then select "save attachments on storage card". It's as easy as that.

relocate outlook data on wizard

There was a post in another thread here that hinted at this ability, but since that thread was general and 17 pages long I figured a dedicated one was worthy. Anyway, is there any registry setting that will put all outlook messaging (all mail accounts) to the storage card.
Here is the post that had a setting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=234798#234798
I did what it said and it did make a file on /Storage Card/Inbox (where I said to put it) and it did not create a storage card2 like the post said... maybe because the new ROM starts the storage card before outlook now.
Thanks,
Edwin
Update: well I have figured out all future mail in the location. pretty cool, but what about the database it uses to reference these files. there must be a database somewhere that references each file that is each email (each email is a file in and of itself in the directory) and if there is a way to move these databases then we can reset at will and keep all of our data.
Update2: SMS and probably mms are not affected by this reg edit. any more to move these too?
I dunno if this will work but have you tried DBView?
www.magenic.com
it'll allow you to see what i think you want to see with the database stores

Are you saying you found a way to fix it so the system doesn't create a folder called "Storage Card"? Also, who else thinks its wierd that having attachments to the storage card doesn't cause this issue, just the mail itself.

On 2.16.9.1 it either doesn't have the startup issue or (since I made changes to startup folder, ie deleted poutlook) I do not have the Storage Card and Storage Card2 problem. Probably the reason it never happened with the attachments is because it doesn't read the attachments in any way to build teh default today screen (which I also do not have anything but spb diary, spb power plus, and the default date/clock bar.
But I still wonder were the rest of the data is stored... I can see the SMS and contacts being in the database that is part of WM5, but MMS I can't see being there and can't find anywhere else they could be.

Saving outlook emails to storage card

My exchange server is sending me the emails over umts as soon as they arrive but they are auto saved on my device memory.
How can I change it that it will be saved diretly on my storage card?
I would like to think that there is a way to do it automaticaly...
Thanks,
Eldi
This can be done using some of the memory tools programs- SK Tools, Memmaid etc. I think only attachments can be saved to the card, ratehr than the whole email folder.
However, I wouldn't recommend saving any system files to an external card- this goes for Email, PIE Cache, DLL's etc, as there is a stong likelihood that you will suffer corruptions or device lockups, due to the relatively slow speed of external cards, and the delay in initialisation when starting up.
You may try this one:
Change the location of email and attachments
When reading and sending email in Pocket Outlook, emails and their attachments are saved in the device's internal storage by default. You can change this location to, for example, your Storage Card:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MAPI\PropertyPath = "\Storage Card\Mail" (REG_SZ string, no quotes) HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MAPI\AttachPath = "\Storage Card\Mail\Attachments" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
To return to the original location:
Just simply delete these Registry settings (since neither is included by default).
It is copy/paste from here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other
under options in the account settings window you can easily select this...
no need to use a registry editor...

This option is available only for attachments and not for the txt mail.

Thanks, that loos like it should work... but... how do I reach the registry?
Changing the path seems to be working for all new emails coming in, but how do you move the old emails and their attachments from the internal memory to the SD-Card in order to release the data memory? Where do I find this dataload? I desperately need an answer to this question as all the emails (and the same goes for calendar entries and contacts) are taking way too much memory space almost making my HTC HD2 freeze all the time... Unfortunately I don't have that much programs to move to the SD card in order to release space and the temporary memory files are frequently being erased as well....

Handling email attachments on the touch hd

I just got my hd yesterday. I love it!
Anyway, regarding email attachments....
How can I set it up, so that I can read an email but not download its attachment?
Right now, I can only read the subject line. Then I can choose to download all headers PLUS attachments if I actually want to read the email. But I can't figure out how to simply read the whole email without using up my data transfer costs to download an attached file that I know I won't need on my mobile.
Is that possible? I haven't found how to do it yet.
Wow, that's a hard one, because the automatic procedures for some of the major email carriers (hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc...) differ from the standard ones, which there are 3 of (Internet email, exchange server, custom domain). What email are you using?
I use a gmail account and a couple of Internet email accounts, and their setups are slightly different.
Try this: from the Messaging ap, click the right soft menu button called [Menu], then Tools > Options..., then tap your email account name. Next click the Download Size Settings link, and select [Entire Message] from the Message Download Limit: dropdown box. I noticed in my gmail account, there is an additional dropdown that lets you select how to download attachments.
Did you know you can save attachments on your MicroSD card? After you tap Menu > Tools > Options..., tap the [Storage] tab and check the "When available, use this storage card to store attachments" checkbox. I always do this very first thing after a hard reset or first turn-on before any new messages come in, but I believe if you check that with messages already on the phone, it will automatically move the attachments. To test, use file explorer and navigate to the "\Windows\Messaging\Attachments" folder, and it should be empty. The new folder on your MicroSD card where the new attachments are is "\Storage Card\Inbox.mst(and a bunch of numbers)\Mail Attachments"
That said, did you know you can store ALL of your messages on your MicroSD card, headers and all, not just your attachments? If you'd like to do this, you'll first need to turn off automatic email checking in all your email accounts. Then, using file explorer, navigate to "\Storage Card" and rename the "Inbox.mst(and a bunch of numbers)" folder to "Messaging", just like it is in the "\Windows" folder. Next, using a registry editor (I use Resco Explorer, but you can download PHM Registry Editor for free), edit the following key: HKLM\System\Inbox\Settings:AttachPath and change the value to '\Storage Card\Messaging\Mail Attachments\'. Next, create a new String Value entry and name it 'PropertyPath' and give it a value of '\Storage Card\Messaging\'. Exit the registry editor and bring up file explorer again and copy all of the files in '\Windows\Messaging' to '\Storage Card\Messaging'. Do the same for the attachments in the Attachments folder if they didn't move automatically. Soft reset your HD and you now have ALL your email on your storage card, freeing up valuable system memory.
Hope this helps someone...

Wow Jesse, great tips!! Thank you!! I'll be checking them out and I'll post how it all goes.
Well, I tried your suggestion for to somehow download the email message without downloading attachments - but it unfortunately did not change anything.
I have two email accounts set up. One is a hotmail address and the other one is with Arcor (my ISP in Germany). It's a regular POP3 account.
I did change the settings to store attachments on my storage card. Thanks for the tip. And YES - it will move the attachments from messages you already have. It automatically created a folder in my card and called it inbox.mst(and a bunch of numbers). In it, I now have a bunch of .att files. Some are a couple of KB big and a couple are about 2MB large (which I assume are the attached files). I thought the attachments would be saved as they are (for example .pdf or .doc) but everything is .att.
I haven't tried your last suggestions to edit the registry and have everything saved onto the card. If I do that, I'll post back how it turns out.
If any other ideas come to mind in terms of my initial issue with wanting to avoid downloading attachments, but still downloading the text content of an email - please let me know.

New HD2 owner with a few teething problems, please help.

HI,
I'm new to HTC and Windows mobile having come from iphone. I have a few teething problems and could do with some assistance. I have searched the forums but can't quite find the answers I'm looking for.
I've synced my Gmail account but it won't retrieve my old mail, how do I do this?
How do I find files that I have dragged on dropped into the "my documents" folder on my phone. I've dragged a folder of documents inc. word docs, excell and pdf's but I can't find them on the phone. How do I open these files using excel etc on the phone?
How do I add personal ringtones for my contacts?
I have read somewhere on here about an issue when making/receiving calls where the screen turns back on and your ear starts pressing all sorts of buttons/apps, has there been a fix for this and where do I find it as my phone has been doing this?
Cheers
I've figured out how to add personal ringtones, so that question doesn't need answering now.
to recieve old emails on your gmail account you need to change how far back you would like mail retrieved. this option can be found like this
email tab, any email account, press inbox, press menu, press tools, press options
now choose the account you want to edit
pick send/recieve schedule
now you can amend your sync settings
to assign a ring tone to a particular contact:
press start, press contacts, pick the contact you wish to edit, press menu, press edit
now find the ringtone field and add the tone you desire
As for finding editing files you should download a file explorer, total commander is popular and free
Resco explorer is better (my opinion only as its more finger friendly) but is not free
hope some of this helps

Yes, big help, many thanks. Is it possible to set your email accounts so that everytime you go into the email it automatically checks for new mail rather than going into the menus and pressing send/receive? I've figured out how to change how often it checks for new mail, ie every 15 mins etc, but I would also like it to automatically check for new mail if I go into my emails
Does anyone know about the screen coming on whilst taking a call issue?
Having more problems with Gmail. The advice above worked for my inbox, but on my googlemail on my laptop I have different folders for different mail. I can't get these folders to sync with the HD2. I tried the same as above but no joy. Any help?
There should be an option for manage folders in that tools menu, where you can pick which folders to synce (I had to add one of my hotmail folders this way) should be the same for gmail I think.

How exactly do you drop to "my documents"? Do you drop to Computer\HD2\\\My Documents using the Windows explorer, or using other methods?
Normally you don't need to search for a file. Drop a Word document somewhere? Open Word, and File Open lists all the Word documents no matter where they are. Most applications have this type of pan-location file-open dialogue.

This is a (stupid) limitation of the WinMo file system
Pocket Office programs only look in the 1st tree branch of files on a storage card- so files in Storage Card/My Documents will be listed, but files in any My Documents subfolders won't.
Files in main memory can look one level lower (ie My Documents/Business)
So, if your files are smallish in size, you may be better to store them in main memory as long as you don't have more than one level of My Documents subfolders.
Another option would be to create a shortcut to the folder holding your files in File Explorer. Tapping file names direct from explorer opens them in the linked program.

That is a strange limitation. Perhaps they may address this issue with winmo7?
How do I create shortcuts, do I do this on the phone, or active sync on the laptop?
It's a bit of a kludge, but if you decide which folder you want to create the shortcut for, navigate to that using File Explorer on the HD2, then Tap/Hold on the folder name and select Copy from the context menu
Now navigate to My Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs; use the keyboard to move the cursor to any item that isn't a subfolder, and then go Menu/Edit/Paste Shortcut. This will place an entry in Programs pointing to your subfolder, called 'Shortcut to...' You can rename this to remove the 'Shortcut to..' bit, or call it something more representative.
Once it's in Programs, you could then assign one of the 9 program shortcut tiles on the home page to this shortcut. Executing it will open File Explorer at your subfolder, from where you can open any of the files.

Ok so did exactly what you said and I get an error message saying
"The file "x" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. IF the problem persists try reinstalling or restoring this file"
What do I do now?
Also how do I remove things from the start menu?
If you press the Windows hardware key, can you see your new 'shortcut' there? If you press it, do you get the same error message?
It might be that the HTC Sense shortcut can't open a folder- if so I'm a bit stuck for further ideas! You could look at a program called Launchpad . This installs itself as a program launcher and is opened by pressing the top left of the taskbar- it has a number of configurable shortcuts, which can include folders and subfolders. At $3.99 it is an excellent program, though I appreciate it is a bit rich to expect to have to pay for something that ought to be in the default OS
[Edit: I wrote a review of Launchpad Here ! ]

OK- must be a limitation of the system! Works OK with Resco File Explorer rather than the built-in one!
Might be worth a look at Launchpad- it does make life easier for a lot of program or settings launches

If there are no existing files for that program, Pocket Office will start with a new blank document. You only see the list once there is at least one existing file.

How to store Outlook messages on the storage card ?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-298646.html
Has anyone been able to get this working on HD2 ? It has worked very well with WM6 on my TYTN. But on HD2, when you set the mentioned registry values, for some reason, the Storage Card folder gets renamed to "Storage Card2", thus rendering the registry settings useless.
Is it possible that Outlook is getting invoked before the storage card is mounted ?
Why not just go
mail tab - Inbox - Menu - Tools - Options - Storage - and tick 'when available use this storage card to store attachments'
No need to edit the registry, Is that not working for you?

Samuel, that setting only affects the attachments. I am looking for storing the emails itself on the storage card.
