Hard Resetting, Hermes (M3100) - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi Folks
Well, I've backed up the machine with Outlook / Active Sync.
I've made a list of all that I have installed, plus the additional things hidden away within the control panel.
I've exported the calls log and settings from Phone Dashboard.
I have moved all my files and stuff from the 256mb Micro SD card.
I've just scoured the machine for the last of the files I want to keep, then I'll do a hard reset.
Is there anything I've forgotten
Once I'm ready to do the hard reset I'll pop the old 256mb card and fit the new 2.0 gb card and then... Oh, find the manual to learn how to do a hard reset

ActiveSync Issues!

I need some intervention! Please give me some insight on this. I have ActiveSync on my home computer done with no problem and hoped to sync my MDA to my work computer as well.
So before I tried my work computer I had at least 6 MB of mem left. I syncing my to my work computer, sync only appointments and tasks (which aren't many) and then my memory is low!
I went from 6 MB to .66 MB! What the hell is going on!? Are their program hidden files that sync into my MDA from ActiveSync I'm not aware of?
I can't find these files that have taken up almost all my memory. I've checked temp folders and the like. Nothing. After all my hard work in tweaking, I'm not trying to hard reset. Somebody, anybody! PLEASE!
Any ideas? PLEASE?!
check the size of teh files you sync'ed it sounds they may be larger than you think. I had a similar issue and had to remove some notes and such to reslove it.
Thanks Mage for the reply. I went ahead and Hard Reset, I couldn't bear to see a error message.

Contact list file? (Preparing to hard reset)

The Widcomm stack has disabled USB syncing and it won't start up bluetooth, the IRDa on my laptop is disabled (so no syncing)... I am about to hard reset and while I don't have enough going on the phone (8525) yet that it's a huge deal, reentering all the contact data is by far the biggest PITA. I am wondering if there is a specific xml file or something with the contact data that I can copy to my storage card and then replace after hard reset so I don't have to reenter everything. Anybody know?
ETA: Search turned up a reference to something like pim.vol, or somesuch. Is that what I am looking for?
Got it, just decided to gamble and pim.vol is indeed what I was looking for.

Contact/Calendar Database deletion?

Sorry to ask a newbie question, but is there any way of deleting the contact and calendar databases in the Wizard?
Regards,
White.
Hardreset the unit (NOTE: this will wipe every and absolutly everything in your phone clean, the OS will still be around [reinstalled automatically], but other software that you installed, wont be).
Hi, yes I did realise this, but was hoping to avoid it.
Very easy to re-load programs, and re-sync mail and so on, and even save documents to a memory card. However, this would wipe some information held within one of the programs we use (bespoke) which is not easily replaced.
Regards,
White
delete the stuff from your outlook and sync, it would delete contacts and calender from ur ppc too, just make a copy of ur your contacts if you are going to re-lode them back.

USB to PC

I'm new to all of this technical stuff, so please bear with me. I've read the Wikis and searched the forums, but can't find an answer to a simple question. Maybe it's too simple. I purchased a Cingular/ATT 8525 about 6 weeks ago. Since that time I've upgraded the rom and applied some of the tweaks I've found in here. No problems. However, I can't get active sync 4.5 to let me move programs and data from my PC to my 8525. I read somewhere that a few devices won't let you do that. Is the 8525 one of them. I'm sure this can be fixed, but how? Right now I've resorted to emailing myself with whatever I want moved over as an attachment, checking the email with the 8525, and saving the attachment to my storage card. Help, Please.
Right-click on the ActiveSync icon in the system tray, select connection settings and make sure that the Allow USB connections check box is checked.
Just need a little more info. Are you using the explore function of Active Sync on the PC to drag and drop the files?
Mike
Thanks for the quick replies. The "allow usb connections" box is checked, and everything sync's fine. And, yes, I'm using the explore function of active sync.
Mmm.. do you get any error message?
Are they very large files?
Are you waiting long enough for the copy - can take a while?
It's quicker anyway to pop the card into a PC card reader to do the copy across.
It is certainly possible to do this - I do it regularly.
I don't get any error messages because I never get that far. I'll right click / copy on my PC file, go to the 8525 folder, right click and PASTE is greyed out. won't even let me try to paste. If I try to left click the file and drag, when I get to the 8525 the circle with the line thru it shows up and won't let me drop. I've tried files from 25kb to as large as 15Mb. As far as moving the MicroSD card over to the PC, That was the first thing I tried. For some reason the HP Pavilion laptop I have doesn't want to reconize the SD card. Explorer shows the card in the slot, but the lights keep flashing like its trying to read it or format it or something and nothing ever happens. It's a ScanDisk 2gig micro that I have to stick in an adaptor for the PC. It works fine in the 8525, I've installed some programs on it, saved several email attachments and pictures on it also.
At the moment there are only two more things I can think of and they are to ensure that
Start>Settings>Connections>USB to PC (ensure Advanced option is UNChecked)
and what about your firewall?

[Q] [HELP] screen problem

Hi, I have a problem with my HTC mega screen stopped responding, I wanted to repair it but they said that the contacts information will be lost and I can't afford this. Here is the question: is there a way to download contacts to PC or maybe run the recalibration screen and does the hard reset remove your contact information?
Active Sync?
Please forgive me if I am stating the obvious but have you tried doing a soft reset. You will have to remove the battery cover to do this. I also found this free program that I believe is called "PIM Backup" that should allow you to save your contacts to the micro sd card or your computer. SPB Backup is another program to allow you to back up your phone. Check out www.spbsoftwarehouse.com. It does cost a little but if losing your contacts are important you might want to consider it insurance. A hard reset will delete your contacts and any program you've installed since you got the phone. Unless you have them backed up.
