here are some results search gave
Follow the pictures, once you will switch-on the WiFi it will search for any available wireless connection, make sure you have already allowed the MAC address of your XDA-IIi in your SKY router, if your router has already setup on password then you have to enter the access password in your XDA as well.
Very Important: Make sure your router is also transmitting the "B" channels as your XDA-IIi's WiFi has got a "B" WiFi card.
GoodLuck & let me know

ive not got a wireless logo though to click on !
ive only got a bluetooth logo at the bottom and at the top of screen clock and sound
Ok then go through: Start->Settings->Connection->WiFi and then you will see those screens
Sidd
your sky should have wpa enabled and the password is written on card or noted under the router. Enter this to your wireless settings. Or your router and xda should detect themselves vice versa and just enter the wpa password.

i aint got any WIFI options on my xda2 ?
i dont understand why not ? surely all xda2i have wifi ?
OK here comes the solution, Dear PIE CJ there is a big diffirence if you say that you have a XDA-IIi or XDA-II, one is a Alpine and other is a Himaliya. You have mentioned & started this post as by saying that you have a """XDA-IIi""", that means you have said that you have XDA-IIi, but now you are saying that it is a XDA-II, so my friend XDA-II does not come with WiFi facility, the manufacturer has put the WiFi ability in XDA-IIi.... But you can buy some external ones from the market.

On bottom left of your xda2i screen there should three icons from left, one that pivots the screen then "wifi" lastly bluetooth. It looks like a blue coloured pawn from chess with headset and it has a red slash when not on.

Boi, what are you refering to? have you read the post number 4 on this page? I have already explained PIE CJ, but according to him he /she has got a ""XDA-II"" which doesn't come with the WiFi feature in it, so how could his device would have that icon? please read the posts.

Hi I am new to this part of ppc life. I have an xda exec and wififofum enabled.
I can find access points that show internet connection but when I start IE to surf the web my grps connects and I connect that way instead of via wifi..
am I missing something.
sorry sorry sorry for the noob question, just never used this before and am sure I am not taking advantage in anyway of my devices capability.
Please help.. oh and i need it from the start..
cheers
Magpie2000k
before we start diagnosing have you changed any settings or hard reset the device in anyway?
Bryson
Bryson I have in the past but
It is installed on 02 mms gprs etc all work.
The device is standard in all ways i believe
your help is appreciated
Ok, lets try this lot first:
goto the wireless manager screen, and select the wifi tab, this should fire up wifi.....then hit settings bottom right hand side of wirless manager screen.
Hit wireless LAN settings and it should bring up the Wireless LAN Status screen.
At the bottom left hand corner of screen there should a small image of a PDA, hit that, and it will take you to the Configure wireless Networks screen, and in there, if a Newtork (hotpsot as you say) is detected, you should be able to hold your Styli on the detected network and click Connect.
Make sure on this screen also that it is set to ALL AVAILABLE networks to access. You should now be online if you are in a hotspot and have paid to connect up etc.
If that fails, look to the right of the Wirelss tab at bottom, there should be a Newtork Adapters tab, Hit that.
See what you have 'My network connects me to:' drop down box and select internet, NOT work.
Give this a go and let me know if succesful, I hope so!
Bryson
ok cheers
I can see the available connections but it cant connect so I guess that is because these are not hotspots but individuals wireless networks..
SHame I cant just hook up to them LOL
Am I correct or do I have to do something else.
cheers again
Magpie
yeah, thats what I think it will be, if you get a chance bob into a hotpsot in a starbu$ks or simlilar and give it a whirl to see if that is the case, you should hook straight up to them and be taken to their 'pay me loads of money screen for 1hrs web access' when you fire up I.E !!
Good luck keep us posted!
Bryson
so how do we...
do this without pay loads of money.. I know people do it
is there no standard way or none standard as the case may be
I have never connected to the internet using wifi so after reading instructions above i drove down to the local McDonalds where i know you can get a connection and followed instructions, i got a signal but come unstuck when i was asked for a pass key. I think you are referring to BT Openzone - a public network of wifi hotspots at sites like McDonalds, Wetherspoons bars, etc
I used to use it with my old PDA so my knowledge is quite out of date, but when I used it, I had to sign up BT first, giving them a bank account details for billing. In return you get a username and password to get access to their network. I was then billed monthly - at a rate of 50p a minute, using the time I entered my username/password to the time I returned to btopenzone.com to logoff.
It was okay for the occasional quick dip online, but it was too pricey for extended use.
Like I say, my knowledge is very old, so do check btopenzone.com for their latest prices. But if its anything like it used to be, I'd stick with GPRS if I were you.
hi everyone, i got my brand new xda exec today..
its a great fone and i like it very much.. but i am having some trouble with my gprs connections.. i have setup the connections as i wud on my late xda II mini.. and the connections seems working just fine wen the are connected automatically for use (like for receiving/sending mms, messenger.. etc) but as i hav a different connection for browsing the internet, because of my operater (damn operator!!!), i had to connect it manually (i did the sam on the mini too) by tapping on the G icon and choosing it from the connectivity bubble which pops up..
but wen it cam to the exec, it doesnt show any connections there, eventhough i already had the two connections from my operator.. it just says, "to connect to either the internet or work, set up a new connection in settings" .. as if i had no connections made..
why doesnt it shows the two connections like it used to show up in my mini :?: i feel its a problem with my fone / OS.. is this how it is in windows mobile 5 :?: if so, is there anyway i can show my connections there in the bubble which pops up wen i tap the G icon :?: any help wud b appreciated.. thanx in advanced..
wont anybody say anything?
still nobody?!? i'm sure there wud b ppl, hu can help me here.. or ppl hu've got the sam problem.. wont anybody just say anything???
I have the exact same problem! A bit stupid how nobody will answer!?? At least tell us if your own one works fine, people!?
I have a feeling that it is a problem with our phones, as I upgraded the ROM to a Qtek and Imate rom but still had same problem. Mine is an Orange SPV M5000 btw.
Hope somebody will take some notice....
cya
No I'm afraid I don't have that either unlike on my BA which did list the connections and a connect to... button.
Perhaps someone (or even I) could write a little program that pops up a list of connections and allows you to connect them.
But why would you want to do this. I too have a different mms and internet connection - just set one to be the default for internet and work (under connections control panel) and tell the mms program to dial the mms connection. Works for me on orange. Do you really need two different cellular connections AND an mms connection?
Pete
Because I want to use GPRS, MMS, and my own VPN Connection..... a bit annoying. Oh well
@appu, you know the bubble you get when you click on the "G" allows you to access a WiFi connection and that is why you get a query about internet/work. Are you saying your SIM has two phone lines, one for calls and one for data? If that is the case I have not seen any one mention this situation before. Would you need to switch off youe device and select the second line?
No No No. You didn't quite understand what I was saying. On my Alpine, when I tap on that bubble I get a connection menu for Wifi, My ISP connection, and my Work Connection. On the Universal, the last two do not appear... I was just wanting to find out if that is the case on EVERY Universal.
No two line business etc!? Don't know where that came from?!
Cya
@moghisi101, you can change the selection of the GPRS/3G connection from start>settings>connections>connections and select "manage existing connections"
Same on the JasJar and XDA Exec
Yes I know, but that seems much more 'involved' compared to what it is supposed to do; show them in that bubble. I think it may be a glitch in WM5. Would be interesting to see if people that have Wizards have same problem.
Cya
all wm5 have this issue.
it is known, there is no fix, and nothing that can be done at this point except follow the directions as indicated.
Is there some registry or configuration file setting where I can hardcode WEP keys for different SSID's?
I have 3 different wireless networks that I connect too at different times. Each one has a different WEP key. I find over time that my device (iMate JasJar) will reset the WEP key box to "automatically provided" when switching between wireless networks. My wireless networks do not provide the WEP key for me but rather have to be keyed in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it is not possible to connect to your bt voyager with wireless as the wireless function is not fully operational yet
What are you talking about? I have a BT Voyager 2100 Wireless router myself, I take it thats what this guy is referring to. When you first got your Voyager did you set up any security like a WEP key? To check open your web browser on your PC and type 192.168.1.1 You will get the Voyager homepage. Click on Advanced, then Wireless (you might have to enter username and password (default is admin for both). Have a look at your security settings and see if you have a WEP key set. If you do, make a note of it and try connecting using your phone with this key. If you still have problems, let me know.
thanx
Thanx ill try that asap and let you know mono33
Help
Sorry about this its still sating the nework key is incorrect but we know its right when we put the mouse over the green box with the signal it say this BTVOYAGER2100-9A But on my pda pro at the screen that says configure wireless netwok there are loads of name its trying to connect to all of them one at a time but its picking up the name BTVOYAGER2091-EO This one says available so i put in the network key but it still says wrong network key.IM THINKING IM PICKING UP ANOTHER BTVOYAGER am i right do you think and what should i do nxt will you talk me through it step by step and thanx mate if together we can get this working you would make me very happy thanx mono33
I think these come with wep defaulted as on. the wepkey code should be on a sticker on the bottom of the router. it is on my 2091 an I had the 2100 before that.
it will be a long combination of numbers an letters.
do this.
turn on pocket pc and stand as close to your 2100 as you can.
try and find your network.
it is possible that your picking up more than 1 wifi. in my street there are 20.
do you know much about your router. I.e how to rename it ?
do this should sort it
on pocket pc.
go in settings
connections tab
wireless lan
in the bottom left hand corner you should have a icon that is a pocket pc with a wireless connection on it.
click this
you will now have a list of all wifi networks in range on your pcc
click on your one. and press connect. this should ask u for wep key now.
if not go into settings and put them in. hope this helps.
Thanx
Ive done this allready and still no luck amymore help would be nice thanx mono33
ill pm you some ideas
I to have the BT Voyager 2100 and this is what I did to get it to work. first off if you stand to close it will not work, try to stand a minimum of 10 feet away. I had some problems setting mine up but it had more to do with my environment than the Exec. This is what I did:
1 Turn off all security on BT Voyager
2 Turn off all security on Exec
3 Attempt to connect with the Exec
4 Change the channel that the channel that the Voyager operates at until a seccessful connection is established. Change and try, change and try until it connects.
5 Walk around house to ensure that you stay connected where you will be using the Exec.
6 Set up other wireless devices you will be using and test to ensure they can connect at these settings
7 THEN I set security on the Voyager then on the Exec and follow up with your other wireless devices
Try this, I hope it works..
Thanx all

When your PDA is plugged into the computer and active sync is active it will connect to the Internet using your computers connection rather than wifi. I'm not sure if there is a way to stop this, I would guess by stopping the PDA from automatically connecting to active sync on connection (I have seen threads about this around the place, I believe there is a tweak on the wizard wiki to help with this also..). Hope that answers your question.
Hi SYN and thanks for your reply!
Iunderstand now how I am gettin online, but I don't understand why I cannot connect via wifi?
I have added the Wizard to my acces list on my netgear router and I use a WEP for all machines.

So your difficulty lies when your NOT connected to the computer via usb.. Does the PDA see the wireless network? Have you tried the PDA with any other public wireless networks?
Hi Syn.
Yes it does see my WiFi.
Maybe as a newbie, I'm doing something wrong?
I haven't tried connecting to any other network as I can't see any others.
Maybe I wil try that 2morrow when I am in the city centre.

Have you added the WEP key to your PDA when you try and connect? When you try to connect it should provide a notification popup asking for the network key, this should be the hex WEP key, not the passphrase (the passphrase may work, but I've never had luck with using them.)..
Hullo again !
No, I didn't see that?
Is there a "THICK GUIDE TO SETTING UP TO YOUR HOME NETWORK"?

Then thats the issue , ok, *grabs his phone and checks where else you can input the wep key*..
Start --> Settings --> Connections --> Network Cards
This should bring up a menu with the title "Configure Wireless Networks" where you should see a list of already configured networks.. these will generally be networks you have connected too (or attempted to connect to) in the past.
If you click on the SSID of your home network, you will be taken to another menu.. hit the "Network Key" tab at the bottom and add your routers security settings here! Once this is done you should have no problems connecting to the network..
I am having a wifi problem as well. My wife's MDA can connect using the wifi, we're broadcasting in mixed right now, and she doesn't have the tweak for G. I have several things installed, and am running the custom 2.17 TMO usa rom.

now i know that some of these programs do allow G type access. but maybe it's something else. last night at an apple store their hotspot wouldn't work either. in the comm manager it'll say it's connecting, but after a few moments it'll just go back to saying available
Unfortunately I do not have the G tweak installed to test if I have similar issues. I would suggest reversing the G tweak and testing to see if you still have problems connecting to wifi networks, if not then clearly the tweak is causing the problems. To be honest I don't personally see the need in pushing from 11MB to 54MB due to the lack of traffic a PDA will use.

SSID is the Network name .. sorry technical term. Once you have clicked on your home network in the list, you should be able to follow the rest of the instructions without any problems. However, going to your other thread (the Rom update question) the instructions may differ for your rom version.. If so, it might be an idea to solve that problem first as a Rom update will erase all of this anyway ..
I think your right!
I don't have any option to input my hex key!
I called o2, but they will not let me download the new ROM as the phone is originally Tmobile!
Is there a ROM you can reccomend and then at least I might be able to input my hex key?
Thanks again

I'm not sure which would be the best rom for you as your phone is originally TMobile, I would suggest going into the "Wizard upgrading etc." forum and either asking or searching for threads made by TMobile users on the O2 network. You may find that the latest O2 XDA rom will work perfectly fine on your phone (I dont see why it wouldnt...) but I would double check with someone who knows more about the Wizard before doing anything.
All of the roms for the Wizard can be downloaded from the sites FTP which is in a sticked thread at the top of this forum .
I've been having a bugger of a time with the Wi-Fi on my 8525. I keep getting a response that the WEP key is incorrect. I was able to connect once, and have since deleted my settings that the Wi-Fi network, but nothing I'm trying seems to get me connected.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I had a problem with my Wifi working when I first got the phone. But since I wanted to SuperCid the phone I had to downgrade the IPL to do so. I re flashed to the same Cingular 1.34 with IPL 1.06. Since then I have not had any problems with the Wifi.

Here's a thought. Why not try the Hitchhiker application. It tends to get round quite a few issues in set up. Also once you've got it working and connected to Wifi you can close it down if you wan to and you'll find it has saved correct settings for your normal way of connecting to wifi. Another benefit is that you can cut the wep key from a text document and paste it into the box it gives you (saves a lot of hassle whenever you need to re-enter the key - which in my case is 28 letters digits long!!) WM5 box as you may have discovered does not allow wep pasting!!
You need to have .netframework installed as well byt the link I give you also has a link for that as well:

i recently got att 8525 but i havent able to connect wifi with my home network. it asks for wep key, then shows connecting to network and after a while shows wrong network key...no success so far...i even tried the abive hitchhiker sf and all but no luck...has anyone come up with any solution??? i had np connecting 8125 b4...!!!
btw i use wm5 and the most recent att rom update posted on htc site...
hoping for some solution...
I have similar problem too with my cingular 8525. I unlock it to work with t-mobile and also upgrade to wm6 . Now, I can not connect to my home wlan. If I click on wlan, it show my wireless network. But if I click on internet explorer, it show me the default internet window explorer with at & t and window mobile icons. when I click on either one, it take me to media net log in screen. help me
ok, i dont know how but my wifi started working last night!!! b4 it always looked for IP address and eventually disconnects b4 connecting to home network. so i installed "hitchhiker" but no luck either...so i uninstalled and then tried but this time it said connected to network and as soon as i open IE, it disconnects...it looked like wifi connects but then disconnects or timeout due to power settings, so i changed power settings under wifi settings to best performance and now it just connects right away...

Thank You Thank you Thank You. I've been at this for a few days now. It would have to be that simple.
Just remember you need to run the remove proxy cab file if proxy is has been set to use GPRS/WAP. Also make sure the right network interface is selected - like work uses 802.11 etc..
