All the servers at work have com ports for a console connection, it would be handy if I could connect using a serial lead and a terminal service to them with my XDA
Is anything available yet ?
Thanks
Serial "lead"
You may try the german company lintech's (lintech.de) RS232 Bluetooth Mini Adapter S (part No. 1409/s). Sits like a dongle on the server side and allows for serial via BT, p. e. with typical terminal progs. Works a treat..

Hi all,
I just written a eVC program to open the COM1 port and send commands to barcode printer. It works fine in iPaq, but for XDA, it can open the port, but seems no signal sent to the barcode printer.
In fact, at first, it can't open the port since I haven't unchecked the beam settings. Any other things need to do to make it work? thx!
Janice.
I wrote this test program to do various things with io ports.
on my xda I can open com1: with it.
There's something funny about the XDA serial port. It seems to need signal on some of the incoming signal wires to come alive electrically, independent of whether the port is open or closed. Probably some kind of power-save feature, but it can be damn annoying sometimes.
Try looping back some outbound status lines into the incoming ones until it works.
Thanks for those replies
Just want to give more informations!
Actually, My configuration is as follows:
xda -> serial cable -> null modem -> printer cable (which originally used to connected to PC serial port) -> barcode printer
So, for ipaq and xda, this part "null modem -> printer cable -> barcode printer" are both the same, the difference are just the serial cable ( one for ipaq and one for xda). To test if my xda serial cable works or not, I have used it to connect xda to my PC. The signal received in my Hyperterminal looks OK. Thanks!
Janice.

PC does not recognize xv6600

I have the T-mobile XDA communicating with the web in terminal mode through RS232-to-LAN and a WAN adapters (NOT PC pass-through). My results are available at:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/prutchi/xda_connectivity.doc
Although I manage to communicate with resources on the net via a terminal (ping, telnet, etc.), I haven't been able to trick IE into accepting my RS232 feed.
How can I restore access to the "serial cable" adapter in the T-Mobile XDA?
Is there an adapter driver that opens a socket such that IE can receive data from COM1 without expecting a modem transaction?
Thanks,
David
Judging by the number of topics on Activesync and Bluetooth a lot of people seem to be having difficulty synchronising their XDAII via Bluetooth. I am no exception.
I bought a Bluetooth PCMCIA card from eBay made by Sphinx Elektroniks (Germany) which came with Bluetooth Monitor v1.0.14 Build 1 software. See
http://www.sphinx-elektronik.de/deutsch/bluetooth/picocard_tech.htm
Whilst my XDAII and PC have bonded ok with the XDAII clearly visible in the Environment pane, it does not seem possible to either transfer files between XDAII and PC nor to get Activesync to work. There is no Activesync profile (from what I can see) in the Bluetooth Monitor software, there are only 3 "services" listed:
- SSA (this has modem symbol)
- ? OBEX Object Push
- ? Service Discovery
I have tried installing the first two on an available serial COM port, e.g. 2, 5 or 6 and then going into Activesync on the PC and trying to "Get connected" but the PC can't see the any of these ports when it looks for a mobile device. The third of the services in the list above reports an error "the service cannot be installed. SCN (service channel number) is 0". I have also tried to initiate Bluetooth connection from the XDAII, both via the Settings, System, Bluetooth Settings, Bluetooth ActiveSync Setup "Start". I have also made sure that the PC ActiveSync Connection Settings has the "allow serial cable or infrared connection to this COM port" is enabled but the ports 2, 5 or 6 are not visible.
So it seems I am stuck. Anyone else had similar problems or had any success with this type of Bluetooth card?
If the card supports serial profile it should work, just make sure you have not bonded with anything on your xda2, go to settings/system/bluetooth, choose the "sync by bluetooth" it will tell you to bond with a serial profile capable bt service, let it search. Make sure you are in discover mode. I have a cheap bt dongle which came with the widcomm software and I am using bluetooth to sync and I am able to surf the web anywhere in the house on my xda2. I can even use my pc as my headset and listen to the phone through the pc speakers and use the mic to speak to the phone.
I just checked that site and it seems that your card does support serial profile so it should work. If it has the bluetooth wizard you need to set up all the protocols that you will be using first.
Hi cruisin-thru,
Yes I saw your earlier post about your success with your cheap Bluetooth dongle. I'm glad you got it working.
Sadly, I've already tried your suggested method but when I do the Settings/System/Bluetooth Settings and click the "Start" button for Bluetooth ActiveSync Setup (which is what I assume you are referring to) it comes up with the error message "Please bond with other Bluetooth device which supports serial port or ActiveSync profile as your ActiveSync partner!". When I click ok it goes to the Bluetooth mode screen (which shows "Discoverable" still. I can only conclude that my Pico card is not compatible with ActiveSync or serial port modes.
My XDAII synchronises fine by USB and IrDA but Bluetooth would be good for surfing, as you know.
Rafil.
You definitely have the serial profiles activated on your pc??
Dear Cruisin-thru,
Thanks for your help on this subject but the Pico card & software I have just don't work with the XDAII. There is no way to do the serial port profiles in a way that the XDAII can see it. I have decided to abandon the Pico card and to go for the dongle that you recommended. For the benefit of all XDAII users who want to sync by Bluetooth, cruisin-thru kindly supplied the following link on eBay for the USB Bluetooth dongle that does work:
http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI...blue-future&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50
Regards -- Rafil.
Here is a link to the software I am using with the dongle.
http://www.blue-future.co.uk/BluetoothDriver.zip
Make sure the dongle is unplugged until you get the prompt. Make sure previous software is removed also.
I have a need to use an XDA as a PDA and I have a laptop USB to COM port emulator.
Can an XDA accept a USB/COM adapter?
Why?... It is a radio amateur thing and I will be controlling and obtaining feedback signals from the COM port device that I connect to my radio.
All coded in VB.Net and works fine on a laptop and I can get it to port to Windows Mobile 5.0 fine but now need to obtain USB (Host?) to COM ability.
Regards,
Dom

Any answer on this would be handy for me too...
Would make terminal connection to network devices a hella lot easier on the move - rather than booting up the whole lappy.
Is there a *good* terminal emulation proggy (terraterm style) available that anyone knows of?
The Universal should be able to utilize a Bluetooth-to-RS232 device..
It can not use a USB-to-RS232, because the Universal lacks USB Host functionality..
As for the terminal software; I used z-term on my Himalaya..
I found it to be very good for my use..
Hello,
with the USB to Serial Adapter, connected to the Phone its possible to open a Terminal Programm and have access to the for example Cisco Console.
I look for a solution to have remote access to this console.
I am not looking for a "Remote Desktop" solution like. Teamviewer, etc.
I have in mind something like usb-device connected via IP to my windows pc, or terminal-server that translate the RS232-connection to IP and I can access via Telnet, SSH, etc.
Has anyone an idea how to do this ? ...or is there yet an APP for this, I havent found yet ?
Setup:
[Router](RS232)<->[Serial-to-USB-Adapter]<->[Android-Device] - - - Network (Wifi/Internet] - - - [Windows-PC](Terminal-Programm like TerraTerm/Putty)
Kind regards
Willi

Uhmm probaly an adapter but you need to figure out the color combo for the wires on the connectors and the right port and frequency.
Rs232 is a print input for livelogging and configuring a print.
Ssh over rs232 ternimal is mostly disabled.
So ues rs232 to usb or rj45 aka lan is possible with these conditions.
For pc
Right usb com. For usb.
Right adapter settings like ip and dns for lan adapter.
In putty
Right port.
Right ip. Aka print identyfier. Ussualy can be find by combining specific nummers on the print
Right plugin running on win7 and 10. Audio recorder ussualy works.
Right wiring order in the 2 connectors. Ussualy on the adapter you can use dipswitches or program it on the pc.
Then u will have admin control over all things the print supports.
