I wanted to use Persian on my mobile but I couldn't install Windows Arabic with Persian support on my Hermes Softbank X01 which has a locked rom with Japanese WM5. I tried so many different commercially available keyboards and softwares, finally this is what worked for me at no charge:
1- On a clean installation of my windows, I installed Ecatco trial for Persian from http://www.ectaco.com/Language-Support-Persian-for-Pocket-PC (actually there are 2 or 3 other packages that none worked for me incl. paragon) There are Ectaco packages for other rtl middle-eastern languages.
With this installation I got Persian font and UTF recognition in internet explorer. Typing Persian in Windows environment (even Japanese outlook) is OK however the IE shows separated LTR characters. There is no choice by default for the text direction and practically it is useless.
2- After hours of thinking, I tried the new version of Minimo (Mozilla browser for PDA). It solved the problem of text direction. Moreover, unlike old fashioned IE, Minimo is an excellent and full featured browser. I just wish my Hermes had a little bit of more base RAM. BTW, you can download the latest (still beta?) version of this smart browser from http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/
Now I can catch on my news reading in Persian on the way to work on board Tokyo Metro!

Hi,
I just installed the new K-Jam rom (K-JAM_WWE_216901_2169101_020710_ship) and everything seems to be working fine apart from opera 8.5 beta 2 which worked very well with my older rom and now opera displays gibberish in the URL (address) line - it's similar to the windows windings font with lot's of weird characters.
The pages that I browse display ok too apart from some content like the google "search" button.
It seems to me like the wrong font is used in some parts of opera
Any ideas?
Works fine here, give me a url you are having issues with and I will try it on my KJAM with the latest ROM and Opera B2
I am having the same problems with Opera since ROM upgrade. When typing in a URL or a google search or anything, the font is similar to windings (i.e. not readable).
i found this beta really slow and screen becomes unresponsive using wifi. Installed cos of tabs but gone back to IE.
I managed to solve this problem by using Tweaks2k2.NET:
* I copied a verdana font from my windows xp machine to the pocketpc windows folder
* using Tweaks2k2.NET - chose the verdana as the default system font.
* Problem solved.
Hi all - have been looking around but have not seen any talks about OPERA MINI MOD, so here it comes.
A modded version of OPERA MINI...
A Russian guy DG-SC are doing lots of improvements on Operamini and has created a version with far more functionality than seen in official versions.
I belive its build is based on version 2/3, released july 07.
Some improvements / changes:
download support,
tab-browsing,
landscape mode,
traffic manager,
file manager with picture/text viewer,
saving pages,
ability to assign shortcuts,
auto refresh,
"shadow connect" feature,
bookmarks import/export,
text selection from webpages,
FTP client,
uses Google as search engine,
hide bottom bar,
change screen size,
page templates and more.
--- and the lost function in the newest version of the official - change of layout colors...
Most of what is written is in Russian but Google helps...

I am a fan of OperaMini but I must admit that I am quite impressed. This mod is by far much more like a normal browser but still has the speed of the normal Mini.
How on earth do you get it into english?
are the test versions in english?
how I did it - i belive..
well. I started by installing version 2.00. Thats in english. Then I opened opera and opened the opera mod link and installed 2.04. It then kept the settings - and english language..
I guess that was what I did, but I will try to reinstall later to see.
Where can I get version 2.0 of Opera Mini?
The Offical site only shows version 3 and above.

If you look for the modded versions just follow the link in the first post
This looks ace, but how the hell to get it into english so we can play with the settings. your method didn't work for me, perhaps you can describe where it is in the settings (if it's there?). I've tried changing everything that's selectable, but it's still in cyrillic.
Hi, I looked everywhere, but I couldnt find any way to input and display korean. I have a HTC Touch Pro, and I find it ridiculous that Microsoft made it so hard to install a language..
Can anyone shed some light?
CE-Star
try this program i use for displaying Japanese fonts on my diamond. i know how it can be a pain getting squares for all e-mails and messages or even on certain websites its called
CE-Star For Pocket PC
you can use the Unregistered version just fine, i believe it also gives you an ability to type in those languages, just by changing the keyboard input
I think the xperia x1 is english version. But I use opera to browse the chinese website, it will not show the characters. Is there a plugin or software I need to install in order to view those chinese characters, I heard about CE-Star, but will it affect other programs on the device?
Hi everybody!
This is a blast from the past. I was looking for a basic multi-lingual two-way dictionary and I found this freeware gem by Innersky!
Well, at first I couldn't find it because Innersky has disappeared but you can still download the programme via Wayback Machine!
Works a charm!
If you want a newer one...

This one requires a data connection, as it uses Google Translator, but it supports something like 30 languages. (All languages supported by http://translate.google.com.)
