Does anyone have this problem with their version of tytn? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi i have a v1605 occasionally active sync program gets activated even if i am not connected to a pc.
anyone else experience this?
possible reason for it to arise and any solutions?
any help appreciated.

if you are using pushmail this will happen because it syncs your phone's contacts, calendar, and mail with the exchange server.

Shogunmark is right but active sync can also start via various schedules for example you may well find everything shut down at night and active sync running in the morning (running but often not actually connected to PC or anything else. Try doing the fake server trick:

Hey Mike, i believe that Activesync is one word, not 2
Yes and i assumed that the OP meant that it was activated and syncing.. But if your not using push mail then by all means use the fake server trick to resolve your issue!

Many thanks will give the fake server trick a go.

However, this is not a problem exclusive to the Hermes, this happens on many other Pocket PC devices if not all.

Is syncing with ANYTHING but Outlook possible?

I have had it with Outlook. I loved my Palm Desktop - one job and it did it extremely well. Now with Outlook syncing on 2 machines it's managed to duplicate every note, manages to change my contacts all the time. My wife is no longer listed by her name but by her email address. I have about 2 dozen contacts that are listed 4+ times, Outlook always bombs trying to get 1 email message thats 1k big... I can keep going.
I hate OUTLOOK!!!
So please, can I sync to anything Anything ANYTHING but outlook!!!
Thanks in advance
Well, yes, if you have a Mac around
I also just switched over from Palm and I too hated Outlook when I first had to deal with it.
So I got this: http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_windowsmobile.php and am happily syncing with my Intel iMac through both Entourage and Apple Mail. Much happier now
You can use FinchSync to sync with Mozilla Lightning and Sunbird. Yes it does work with WM2k5.
I'll try the Fynchsync but there's gotta be something else out there that this crappy phone can connect with.
Any ideas?
I could never get Outlook to work...
I've been using Yahoo Go....

I tried FynchSync.. it seems alright when I install it.. etc. However, at the last step of getting a link to sync, I notice that it still needs active sync (e.g. if you do it via USB cable). Sigh. But I think you ought to able to do it via wireless.
Sync with Lotus Notes using mNotes
You can sync with Lotus Notes (if you really want to use this as your client) as well. I'm lucky :?: enough to have this at work and have bought a personal license of CommonTime mNotes. It's £40, which is a little excessive, but it does a good job and I've not encountered any problems yet.

Automatic send/receive pop3 email not working

My Vario II is set to automatically do a send/receive to check my pop3 email account every 15 mins. This was working fine but suddenly has stopped and no longer checks automatically. I have checked all the settings and they all seem to be correct. It may or may not be linked but I have also been having difficulty getting active sync to work recently. Any ideas?
Thanks
Michael
P.S. I should add that if I manually select send/receive then it works fine, it just won't do it automatically.
I take it you're running WM5. There is an option to do it, but it sounds like you already have it set.
Oh, check your roaming settings. The phone may think you're roaming, on WM6, there's a checkbox under the mailbox settings to download mail even when roaming. I don't have a WM5 to refer to in order to tell you exactly where the setting is.
I must add my related problem to yours, I hope you don't mind. The option doesn't seem to exist at all with WM6. Has anyone been able to set the pop mail to download automatically?
Yes it's WM5. I checked and can't find that anywhere in the menus. All I can think off is that i've installed something then removed the programme and somehow it's changed a setting. Looks like a hard reset is on the cards unless anyone else can help.

You didn't do the "Fake server trick" did you? That sets your Active sync connection to manual. What kind of problems were you having with AS?
Mike
I don't think so, or at least I haven't done that intentionally. Basically active sync won't connect at all anymore to my PC. It's all very frustrating!

Have you found a solution? We are having similar problems on the new Kaiser:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332362
It sounds like an issue I had. If you are pressing the power button to stand-by the device it will not check your emails automatically for you. This is something that has been fixed in WM6.
To get around this add the "device lock" today screen item and use that instead of stand-by-ing your device.
Thanks. The Kaiser is a WM6, so it may not have been fixed....I will try the device-lock-then-let-it-go-into-standby-by-itself trick to see if this works...

Sync Wirelessly?

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know if it is possible to work out a way to sync the Tytn with a pc wirelessly if the pc and phone are on the same network?
For example - If I am home and forgot my cable at work to sync the phone to the computer. Is there a way I can map the tytn to find the Activesync partnership via my home wifi?
Thanks
I would say yes as you can activesync to networked devices. I did some searching and found a guide if it's any help.

I'll second that. The less USB connections and cords the better!
I'll try it later, some things are easier in vista so might be pleasantly surprised

I thought about that but I think it would present problems. I use Thunderbird for my work and not outlook so I am already using the Birdiesync software to sync the Tytn.
Also, I am not interested in syncing mail as much as I am interested in appointments and contacts. Would an exchange service be good for this? Can you recommend a good and cheap/free one?
Thanks
you can try mail2web

I haven't used it, i have my own exchange server but I see it on the boards alot.

I have been using mail2web for almost a year. It is very good and the equivalent of a desktop PC. I can hard reset or install a new ROM anytime away from my PC and sync back all my PIM data over wifi or phone data service. It is still free, try it.

Can you explain how you set up mail2web with activesync so that I can give it a try? I went to the site and took a look but found it hard to envision the whole setup.

E-mail direct push and setup !

Hi there everyone
I have this issue setting up my Leo for the direct push.
The good news is ,I did setup the hotmail account as well the outlook for the "as it arrive " for the direct push and I found it that amazingly the hotmail arrive to my phone like in a fraction of a second "super fast" and that the outlook take a little while " I'm not complaining as long as it arrive" the only thing that it only push e-mails when I'm on the Wi-Fi connection.
However, when I try switching off the Wi-Fi no Push?!...... So what went wrong?, any ides, or anyone have better solution. Though when I do "physically" ActiveSync the outlook do receive the new e-mails. It looks like the phone doesn't sense the new e-mail.
Other thing dose anyone know how to receive push e-mails as well from Gmail and yahoo??
Thanks a lot
any help plz guys
I am interested in this too, my Gmail syncs fine. But Hotmail only works if i manually sync it when on 3G. It's greyed out in the email accounts section so i can't alter the settings.
The email setup is a bit of a black art to me on here. Maybe i should read the 310 page PDF manual.

The thing that I found a round-over solution for it by using a 3rd part application "Seven or emozeMail" to add ur e-mail account and it will do the trick for you!
However, this is not a really push serve from WM, I was looking for something without the use of the 3rd party app. Again, the hotmail as well the outlook do push when it is only on Wi-Fi!!! But not in the SIM net connection
By the way how did you set ur Gmail to act as push e-mail?
Best luck
no answer!!!
up...up...up i really need helop!!!
Stupid question - you do have Direct Push on under comm manager I guess?
have you tried turning it off rebooting then back on again
Have you tried performing the intial setup/sync over 3G and not Wifi?
I just set mine up using 3G and did nothing special and it syncs using 3G fine from Hotmail.
I didn't do anything special, so can't tell you how to magically sort it. Sorry.

If you want 'push' e-mail then it'll have to maintain a connection - either 3G or Wifi. It won't connect when an e-mail is received then disconnect once it's downloaded, it requires a constant connection for the device to receive the e-mail immediately

It's best not to use push e-mail unless you have an unlimited data plan! I'm not sure what you're asking: do you want to know how to set up an sync schedule? In the Windows Live options you can specify a 'sync sechdule' frequency, anywhere from every 15 minutes to four hours. You can do the same for an exchange/activesync account.

thankx alot for ur help. what i was trying to say that when i compare better the two methods ( the Data connection Vs Sechdule one) for me the data connection will be very costly !..what i was thinking of that if there is like a way to disconnecte the Data after it have pushed the e-mail
Actually, push won't increase your data usage. it may well decrease it.
Good point actually, just being connected won't cost anything without data transfer. Cheaper than repeatedly refreshing your inbox.

Basic Help Needed

Hello all.
Apologies for asking what may well be an obvious question, I have trawled through a lot of pages but cant seem to find help at present. I am a newbie to winmob having been an Iphone chap for 18 months.
I have managed to get all my contacts off my iphone and now have them on my laptop in my windows address book. I cant get them on to my HD2 now! I am really struggling, I am trying the Microsoft My Phone programme and it is not working.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a basic step by step guide to solving my problem?
Thanks,
Mike
Hi Golt, welcome to Windows Mobile!
What version of Windows have you got?
Do you have MS Outlook installed?
Hi there!
I'm using 6.5 I believe. I do have outlook but it is only the trial version. I have managed to get my contacts onto there but still cant get them on the phone!
Thanks.

Is the phone in ActiveSync mode also? You should get a window on the phone open when you plug it into USB.
As far as I know the phone is in active sync mode. When I connect it to the laptop, a pop up box appears about instaling drivers etc. I a apparently missing mdismpx.sys file? I cant seem to get the active sync on my laptop to detect my actual handset?
Is this any help?
