I´m using an 8525 over a non G3 network with a conventional SIM card, according to the readings I´ve made with Spb GPRS Monitor the connection speeds I´m getting are between 0 to 5 Kbps!! The same SIM with the same GPRS settings in an 8125 gives readings up to 17Kbps. Besides the storage capacity what makes a 3G SIM different from a 64K or 32K SIM´s?

So my new Exec turned up today, along with a new SIM card, marked 3G.
Do I need to use this card?
My current SIM works fine in it, but Im wondering if I need to put in the new one, call Cust Services and have it enabled, or can I get the 3G service on my existing SIM?
Depends , the 3G card will allow faster internet connection- if in service area
if in stand gprs area , you get a G at top of screen
if in 3G area you get a U
Does that mean I have to use and register the 3G SIM? As far as I was aware, the SIM doesnt actually provide any functionality - its the service class your contract has?
@CPGOD
3G and GSM SIMs are different. Only with a 3G SIM can you use UMTS (3G services). Please check with O2, they may be transferring your number to the new SIM from the old - which would be a good thing if you want fast data download (max speed around 384kbps)
not true, my voda sim of over two years is now 3G enabled...
@twaddle, you're right it is possible to have a SIM that is GSM and UMTS. Did a bit of research and found SIM cards can function in GSM and UMTS modes. This has not been true for "3" network, however.
I'm not really sure the old SIM can be used to received 3G, I've just upgraded and got my old number transfer to the 3G sim, it works after a few hours. If the old one worked then why would they bother giving out the new sim?
Hi,
I'm just wondering if the 3g network/simcard will work on the O2 Mini?
This network is in Australia, so for those in Australia knows please let me know.
Cheers
im not sure, i dont think itl work cause the 3G simcards use a different voltage or something, you can use normal sims in some 3G phones but not the other way round...
3g
I have Orange USIM (3G) sim card and its workinhg on Magician without any problem
Some 2G SIM cards can also be used to access 3G networks and 3G services(these type of sim cards is sometimes used, for example in 3 Hong Kong). Some 3G SIM cards (like the ones they have on 3 Australia) are just 3G sim cards, meaning they wont work on 2G phones.
3G needs a special technology which is not available in mini' hardware. Mini users have to just stop with what we already have as they wont even release a WM5 i think so.
However to use 3G effectively you need a cam in the display's front!

Are you able to download at 3G speed? Pointless having a 3G simcard if you can't go faster than GPRS.
If a phone doesn't support UMTS then you won't get a faster speed than GPRS (or EDGE) no matter what sim you put in it.
Okay, so I'm running an older 32k SIM card in my 8125. What (if any) benefits are there to upgrading my SIM card? I keep reading about 3G and all that, but don't really have any clue as far as what all the differences are.
Anyone got a good link for reading material in one spot?
Thanks!
A 3G Sim card is no use with the Wizard, the device does not support UMTS (which is what a 3G simcard is used for). As to the differences between a 32k or 64k simcard, I have no idea what the benefits would be of a 64k card.
After suffering some major connection issues and dropped calls, I called T-Mobile to *****. They were actually pretty cool with the fact that I had rooted my HD2 and loaded Nandroid on it. They said my problem was due to the fact that I had a 2G Sim Card. They said I needed to visit a T-Mobile Store and have them swap my card out with a 3G Sim Card. Its free to have them do this. This actually solved many of my connection problems. I now get excellent 3G / H signal in places where it would normally drop off to Edge. If you don't know which card you currently have, all you have to do is take out your sim card and look at the Gold Contacts. Check out my blog for photos showing the difference between the two cards. I hope this helps others with poor data connection and dropped calls!
Seeing that no one can help me with the problem below, maybe some one knows how to add 1700/2100 to band frequency to 3G?. that mite increase speed?
Problem, Can not get phone Mobile network to use 3G/4G/LTE, Only EDGE will show for each Sim Card Signal.
Details on phone: Vibe 5K Plus, Build A6020a46_S105_161124_ROW, Type PA2R, Model 0117IN.
Qty 2 T-Mobile sim cards: Slot 1 for Data Sim card, Slot 2 for calls & text.
Have taken phone to T-Mobile service store, and spoken to T-Mobile global support on phone about problem with not being able to use 3G/4G/LTE.
The APN settings have been checked with T-Mobile as been correct.
When looking at phone Settings, SIM Management displays Default 4G/3G Subscription[/B for the Data sim card in slot 1.
Also Enhanced 4G LTE Mode is turn on
When looking at phone settings, About PhoneStatus/Cellular network type, displays T-Mobile EDGE in sim card slot 1.
Other T-Mobile sim card in slot 2 displays GSM
When looking at phone settings Mobile Data Mobile Network settings, T-Mobile data sim card in slot 1 displays Preferred Network Type GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto.
Other Mobile Network settings for sim card in slot 2 for calls and text displays GSM only , this is greyed out.
When Data sim card or Call & text sim card are turn on in network, Both only show EDGE and is really slow.
