WMODEM Connection Problem! - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Please, somebody help me with this problem... I am trying to connect my laptop using DUP and my Imate Jam. I have them paired, and when I dial up I have a yellow light showing I am connected to my Laptop via BT (regular MS Stack). I notice that the Send Data and Receive Data begin flashing, so I know communication is working. My laptop registers on the network, then I get a 734 ppp protocol error message and will not connect. I can't seem to get my laptop to get past this error message, but I feel I am so close to actually being able to use my Jam as a BT Wireless Modem... Please help - this is the best forum for help and I need it!

Figured it out!
Okay... I found out how to make it work, but it was crazy! All I did was soft reset my Jam and got connected at 115.2 Kbps using my laptop and my imate jam as a BT Modem! My connection seems faster using my laptop with my Jam then browsing directly from the Jam! The only thing that stinks is that I had to hard reset to remove the BT patch and go back to the original Microsoft Stack. I am very happy now!

Using Bluetooth modem really sucks your battery. Why wouldnt you try USB modem? It may be extra faster(maybe) and charges your device too!

i-mate (Widcomm bt stack) and Dial-Up Networking

Hi all!
I have installed the WidComm stack, but since then I cannot use my i-mate as a GPRS Dial-Up Modem. When I select Dial-Up from the Bluetooth devices, after some seconds it pops up a window where I can enter my username, password and the number to be dialed. But when I press Dial, nothing more happens, just a window pops up saying "Dialing *99#..." but then I get an error message "Error 692: There was a hardware failure in the modem...".
I tried it with and without Hardware flow control etc., with and without AT command +cdgcont=1,"IP","internet",0,0 still no success.
On the other hand my old MS Stack lost its SSA profile somehow, so I cannot connect through that one either anymore.
Since noone is saying anything about this issue, I assume everybody is happy and has it working, am I right?
Any ideas? :?: Please help, I need it badly... :?

I have the exact same problem. Have you found the solution?
I think it's caused by the widcomm stack that was extracted from a non phone-edition ppc (which of course cannot be used as a modem). maybe the extracted stack from a hp 6300 works?
Funny thing is I also can't connect via IR.
l did a hard reset & voila, I can use my xda2 as a wireless bluetooth gprs modem again.
Putra,
really ? after a new format u were able to connect using GPRS and USB without any problems ?
I' have the same problem with my i-mate k-jam latest WWE rom...
Error 692: There was a hardware failure in the modem !!!
And the connection were dropped down...
Maybe could be the SPB GPRS Monitor program ?
I've disabled all possible thing related to ActiveSync and Usb connection , either on pc and my k-jam....
I'm goin' to be crazy !!!
Only one time i was able to connect for up to 2 minute, without any problems... and then, after i've tried again to estabilish a new connection, i won't be able... it sais Error 892.... !!!
Anyone Could Help me ?
Thanks a lot in advance...
Raid.
sorry...
Sorry there, but it was so long ago, I cannot even remember what I did.
I have upgraded to the Prophet since Jan, and no longer using the Xda2... it's now my backup in case something happens to my Prophet.
The Bluetooth connection works fine... but sometimes the modem still "hang" and i got Error 692 or TCP Error 743... it seems that the major problems are caused by the ActiveSync, when i disable the USB connection either on my phone and on my laptop everything goes fine...
With the USB connection....no way at all ! After 2 minutes the connection is terminated.... even if i've disabled ActiveSync USB connection...
Hope this helps....
Alessio.
Nothing to do....
Also using BT stack (Microsoft) after few minutes my wireless modem seems still connected, but i cannot send/receive packets over the internet.
It seems like frozen !!!
And after i've clicked the "Disconnect" through the dialup connection icon on my task bar, my wireless modem doesn't respond anymore... i need to reset my device and sometimes this doesn't works at all, Windows stop responding while i'm trying to open the "Network Connections" panel... after the timeout completed and the dialup is disconnected i can open it again !
What's the problem !?
I'm downloading the new Dell BT stack for my laptop... i'll update you again...
I cannot figure the problem is my device... i can surf with opera beta for WM5 without any problems !!!
I solved the problem....
I've upgraded my MS BT stack with the Dell BT stack new update (Latitude D410).
Everything seems working fine now, i can stay connected above 15 minutes now... in this moment i'm writing throught my EDGE connection
I cannot use the USB modem... after 2 minutes i cannot send/receive packets anymore... i've disabled ActiveSync either on phone and laptop !
Some one could help with the USB and my Wizard?
Thanks.

GPRS/EDGE with wireless modem. HELP !

I have some problems with GPRS/EDGE connection using the wireless modem...
I flashed my i-Mate K-Jam Italian, with the latest i-Mate WWE ROM.
Before the flash i never tried the wireless modem, so i dunno if it is a ROM problem....
But...
1) I have serious problems using the USB modem link option, in this mode after about two minutes my modem seems hangs and the connection still stays up but i cannot send/receive any packets from the internet. Also, when i try to disconnect the remote connection through the windows connection icon on my taskbar, the modem logs shows up timeout error contacting modem...... when the timeouts end i cannot use the modem anymore and i got a Error 692...hardware error.... i need to reset the modem or turn on/off the flight mode...
2) After updating my BT Stack (Microsoft) with the native BT drivers of my laptop (Dell Latitude D410), the bluetooh connection seems working fine... but after about 15-20 minutes the modem still hangs like happen with the USB connection. Before the driver upgrade i was stuck in the same way of the USB connection !!
I've disabled ActiveSync USB either on my phone and on my Pc...
My KJAM works fine if i use OperaBeta or IM+ on my phone... so i can connect/disconnect and so on whenever i want !
I've got a Nokia 6021 that ROCKS with EDGE on my laptop, compared to my K-JAM!
Anyone have a solution ?
Is a known problem of the last iMate ROM?
I'm going to be crazy....please someone help me ! Razz
My configuration is:
Dell Latitude D410
ActiveSync 4.1 build 4841
Dell BT driver (Toshiba model)
Software on phone:
SPB PocketPlus, Diary , Backup
OperaBeta 8.5
TotalCommander
smartskey in background
Tomtom
I've uninstalled SPB GPRS monitor and IM+
PS: i'm sorry if i made some English errors i'm italian !
I had the same problem since oct'05 with pda2k. Then I thought I was having a faulty device, so I bought kjam since nov'05. From that month to today I didn't found any solution. I search forums, ask ISP, upgrade to O2, Qtek ............ Nothing worked. So, I think using nokia or a sierra card is the solution.

How to use GPRS Internet on Laptop

How can you use GPRS Internet from your O2 Exec/JASJAR on Laptop/Desktop computer?
I am guessing there should be a way through the wireless modem. Any ideas guys?
Activate the wireless modem, install the device as a modem on the computer.
Dial *99# with the computer..
Hi all
I just avtivated by wireless modem through similarly named app on Exec.
Then on laptop dialed *99# and all was looking well until Win XP laptop said registering computer on the network.
Then error message on Laptop said device wasn't functioning.
Whilst it was trying though the coloured lights on the wireless modem(exec) app were flashing away like merry.
That was entertaining enough but any clues as to where I'm going wrong?
Using a bluetooth dongle with IVT soleil on laptop.
Which works for activesync and headset.
Have stopped activesync on exec in order to get this far.
Phil
You have to install USB modem drivers for your Exec on your XP desktop. I don't know if the modem will work through bluetooth. I use USBmodem drivers with my Vario and it works perfectly. I don't know if you need to use different drivers for your Exec, but I will attach the ones that work with the Vario.

Try a soft reset (that worked setting up a mate's Universal with the same error), sounds like you have the modem installed and everything else set up.
Btw when his couldn't connect with that error, it couldnt connect to the network when not functioning as a modem anyway.
thank you for the modem driver for Universal! I really looking for it
this is about the best walkthrough i have ever read. so Koksie thanks if you wrote this....
anybody got any ideas when this error comes up when i go to start "4- Then in Programs, click on "Wireless Modem". With the Connection type on USB, click on "Start". " and i click start thie error "ERROR .... COME OPEN ERROR"
any ideas what that means?!
Jay
I did not write it myself, just found it and passed it on because it worked perfectly for me. I have no idea why it gives the error you mention. I think the walk through was found on this forum, perhaps try to find the thread and ask the question there? The person who posted this originally might perhaps know the answer. good luck!
I've tried this loads of times all I get is a COM OPEN ERROR on the XDA.. it did work once briefly then wont work again..

I had the same problem. In bluetooth settings delete all the outgoings port that you created. In my case it was port 8 for gprs....Now works¡¡
well thanks for the help.. lol although that doesn't sound to promising maybe i will take it back to o2?
arhh just saw dherrero's reply i may try thatl
jay
hey hey! great thanks for that works brillantly. now i just need to test my tomtom to see if he can stil connect to my GPS device:
Update
Koksie and Kevino most helpful.
I gave up on Bluetooth and got me USB cable out.
The USB modem connects and works well now.
I am not sure the "receive all incoming beams" tick is neccessary?
For O2 customers I found this which was quite useful for the USB Modem Connections settings on the Laptop/PC.
http://flash.o2.co.uk/productsservices/mobileweb/pdfs/Windows manual set up instructions.pdf
BTW I can connect for my emails but have to setup a new Email Account in Outlook to send using the O2 smtp server (smtp.o2.co.uk).
However I still can not get Internet Explorer to be able to browse on this GPRS connection, any ideas?

Well m8...as you bring this up...
If anyone can shed some light on this it would be great.
It seems to me tat this problem is only with o2 :?
I have also tried in the passed to make phones work with laptops an tomtom go's etc for the gprs connection usage and had no joy.... at first i thought it was the phones...tested with Nokias 6310i, 6230, 6230i, SE t630, w800, w900i, etc all running the latest firmware and 02 active settings and always connection errors.
In the meantime ALL the other networks like voda, t-mobile, orange etc work like a charm on the same setups.

Using TyTn on 3G as an internet connection for laptop

Is there any information on using a USB cable, and/or bluetooth for this, and how temperamental is it v a dedicated laptop PCMCIA card?
Thanks
TYTN as a modem
I've not tested my TYTN (VARIO II) as a modem yet, though I regularly connected my MDA PRO to my laptop at work initially via USB, and subsequently via bluetooth.
I was informed by T-Mobile that a bluetooth connection was less reliable than USB, however i found this not to be the case, and i rarely lost my connection via bluetooth vs REGULARLY had hangups with USB. The only drawbacks to a bluetooth connection appear to be that it drains your battery quicker and also that obviously the potential data transfer rate of bluetooth is inferior to USB 2.0.
I did have the T-Mobile Data Card for a while but cancelled the contract after a couple of weeks once i realised I could use the MDA as a modem! There really is no difference in signal quality/speed OR reliability (at least, I didn't find there to be any!).
I look forward to testing out my Vario II as a modem. I noticed immediately how much more reliable my 3g/GPRS connection is compared to the Pro - I rarely get the dreaded "cannot connect for an unknown reason"/ "no modem at the above number" error messages with my new handset, and if i do it reconnects TEN TIMES faster, so I can only assume it will make an even better modem than the pro.
At the very least, it LOOKS nicer!
It took me about a week to get my TyTN working as a modem with my laptop. I was having all sorts of problems connecting. Eventually it started working and it's been trouble free since. I've now cancelled my Orange Data card and rely on the phone's 3G/GPRS modem via bluetooth (though USB and Infrared also work).
When you use a USB cable, do you still create a "dial up" type connection on the laptop?
If you know of some online instructions, please let me know.
Thanks
Yes it's a dial-up connection.
Instructions are on the WIKI at:

in my case it works over bluetooth without problem, i don't event have to start Modem Link application. my system is Fedora Core 5 (Linux distro).
Ditto with Windows (XP and Vista tested) - you don't need to run the Wireless Modem application to connect.

Wireless modem ...

Hi to all , i'm a new user of TYTN .
I always use it as a modem to surf the web via BT in conjunction with my laptop.
My question is : there is a way to defaul the wireless modem to BT ( it default to usb ) when start the program and ( maybe ) the program starts automatically without select MENU>START....
ALSO : i saw that the internal modem work also when the device is into sleep mode and without starting the wireless modem but in this case the connection hang after few minutes ( i think the BT connection to the PC hang ).
If the device is in active state the internal modem work too and fine but if no data is exchanged for a while the device goes to sleep without advice then connection hang.
No problem using the wireless modem .
Again ... there is a way to add the internet sharing via PAN BT like hermes' brothers ( P3600) ???
thx in advance
Greeting from Italy
Davide
I'm having the same problem, also in Italy on TIM. I have tried two different SIM cards, different data plans, and can not find any pattern to the disonnects. If the connection sits idle, it will suddenly stop passing traffic. I have at times been able to keep the connection active by running a game (WoW) in the background on my laptop, but as soon as I the game quits due to timeout (not playing), the connection gets "stale" and dies. Other times, the game will not keep the connection active either. The time it stays active is inconsistent as well. Sometimes when I connect, I get no received packets, only sent. If I disconnect/reconnect 4 or 5 times, usually I will get a good connect and be able to open a web page. I do find it is worse in the daytime than in the evenings, but this is not always true.
BTW, I'm on a TyTn, MacBook Pro w/ the modem script linked from the wiki.
Any ideas?
@ jcolley :
i don't know about macbook , but a problem like your appear on micro$oft XP with the built in bluetooth stack .... much more better use the widcomm stack or toshiba stack for bluetooth

Nope, as there still isn't an AKU3 ROM for the TyTN.
As far as disconnection problems are concerned, try using a desktop-based ping utility to keep up the connection.
