MDA Camera Flash as a Flashlight - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi! I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a way to assign a hardware button for the camera flashlight or even a screen icon. I read somewhere that somebody was working on a program for it. Thank you for your time.

Look for a proggy called pflash. It'll turn your screen white and temporarily disable the backlishgt timer. assign that to a hardware button and you're done.

Thanks Nate, I was hoping there was a program that would use the camera's led flash as a torch. I found veejay's program, unfortunately it didn't work for my mda. I'll give pflash a try though.

No prob, I think it was a free proggy by David Anders (easy enough to find via google). He's also got an AWESOME RSS reader too.
I've got my MS Voice Command on my 8125 and added a shortcut to Pflash to the \windows\programs directory and renamed it flashlight and VC hs no trouble understanding it and calling it too!

Flashlight with Mortscript
Maybe you can try with this.
Unzip both attached files.
Install Mortscript app and copy flash.mscr file to PPC.
Run flash.mscr file.
It works on my Atom Exec/WM5. The .mscr file sorta run the test Flash command from the Atom Exec's Self Diagnostics apps.
Cheers,

Plamp
Found plamp here
http://www.freewareppc.com/misc/plamp.shtml

WM5 compatible - HTC Phones only
This program is used to permit control of the flash light on various HTC Phones, to allow it to be used as a torch etc.
Note: this app may will cause permanent damage to your flash led over prolonged periods.
The app will disable itself after prolonged use, but still, use it at your own risk.
I cannot confirm what hardware it will work on, other then the Universal phone.
look here: http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJCandela

Juncker - my app is not compatible with wizard. I don't have a wizard to test on so never wrote support for it.

That worked really well.
What abt the light dmg topic... use long time = killing the light?

Anybody have any luck running that mscr on the 8125? I couldn't get it to work
I haven't found any other way to control the flash w/o starting up the camera...

can i make this work on ATOM?

Do something work for the wizard now?

At this point, still no. But I for one would be willing to put my wizard on the line to test a version of vijay555's program for the wizard.

Stopwatch Software for Himalayas

I'm just a newbie here on the board as well as a user of an O2 XDAII.
I would just like to ask if anybody have made a stop-watch or timer software that could be installed on the XDAII?
Thanks in advance.
Yes, actually I have as my first attemt at a .Net CF application.
It is a very simple stopwatch/strokecount application. If you want it, I can upload it.
That was a quick reply... please do upload it. If it is not a hassle, can you also indicate on how do I load it....I am really very new with my new toy..it's too high tech for my existing knowledge. TIA Kim
Now, as you will be able to see, it is an application in a very rough stage. AND there is a little thing that is not implemented (Save splits).
What you do is you unpack the zip file to a folder on your harddrive. Then you uploade the exefile to your XDA II using ActiveSync and Explore. (You just press the explore button in ActiveSync and you can copy/paste the .exe file to your device there.)
You can put the exefile anywhere, but you have to your Explore on your XDA II to execute the file. (I think you can make the program show in programs by placing a link in the \Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder)
Now, in order to use the app, here is a little explanation of the buttons.
Time gives you the pace of your presses. You have to press this button 3 times before you get a result. It gives you the number of presses you would have if you continued for 1 minute. (Used in rowing and swimming)
Then you have your start/stop button, and a split button. And the reset, just clears the boxes. Unfortunatly I have not made it pause. When you stop the watch, it starts from 0. This will be in another release
Hope you can use it, and do not hesitate to come with some surgestions.
Oh, and by the way, if you have .Net framework 1.1 installed on your pc, you can try out the application on that too....
You can also try these freewares:
Pocket Counter
StopTime
You may find them in the PocketPCFreewares site
tnx to you two
I don't know what else you are adding to the app but I would suggest button mapping.

You could look at Spb Time - multiple up and down timers, very nice.

Actually that was part of my first alpha version made in eVC++ 4.0. But after switching over to C# and .Net I haven't gotten around to it. BUT it is going to be in there.
anyone know a stopwatch for the wizard - supporting wm5?
thx

Switcherbar.exe for teh win!

I nicked the HTC 'switcherbar.exe' from my axim x50v and put it on my JasJar (i notice a collegue has it already on his k-jam as part of the default rom). It work, is only 43k and is perfectly stable and usable. No more pocket plus slowdowns! The only problem is that the icon is QVGA and sits in the middle of the menu bar! Still, much beter than anything else I've tried! Does anyone know how we might resource hack the .exe to use a VGA icon (or if this is even possible). I've attached the .exe for 'ahem' educational purposes.
when i try to copy it to JJ i get access denied using activesync, i have extracted the exe from the rar, the rar will copy to me jj no problem, the exe just wont do it, even renaming it to .exx.
i got it there, i put it on me server and wifi'd it using resco explorer to map to share,
is this an activesync block? dubious, it had same issue even if i renamed the exe to something like exx.
I like this app, small to the point and optimised. only crit is as you say it plonks the icon in a stupid place, is there another app maybe that can force it to the system tray?
Ohh, also the brightness and power options dont seem to work, if someone could reengineer this app to allow:
1, vga icons
2, appear in sys tray or atleast be more dynamic in its positioning
3, either remove or fix the backlight and power options.
Way over my head but im sure someone here would be able to fix it.
prehaps we could get the one off the k-jam? I presume the brightness & power shortcuts work on there...

want run app in HIRES mode without change WM5 mode...

Nice application... Check it out...
http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?threadid=105793
I have been tried with DestinatorPN working great...
Hi,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I understand this correctly, this "hack" recompiles any .exe I want to run on my Universal to default to a VGA screen.
The end result is that I can have everything in QVGA mode except those I specifically modify. eg
- WM5 and phone dialer as normal but when I start a modified Internet Explorer to automatically defaults to full VGA mode?
Is this correct?
Also I noticed the reference to this site below...
http://www.tweaks2k2.com/portal/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=8&showtopic=62
I am wondering what they mean by the "HI_RES resource file", having never owned a window's based PDA before, I'm not familiar with the file.
Is this a generic system resource file that can be duplicated into any folder we need and renamed appropriately?
Where do I begin to locate such a file to copy and rename?
This seems like a neat solution if its just a matter of copying this into any program folder I want to run in VGA mode.
Regards
Michael
Looks like it, time to do a bit of playing around........
......Well, I couldn't get any of it to work. No great surprise there.
This app modify you ppc apps to work in HIRES(VGA) mode, when all my WM5 in QVGA mode only the apps that i modified will work in VGA mode.
What i know (i tried) on this app, When i modify DestinatorPN and it's works great but on Resco Explorer (5.1) it's not working.
And about the Internet Explorer i didnt found way to copy/move/replace the file "iexplorer.exe" so i didnt check it.
Resco Explorer and PIE are allready high-res aware. They do a method called double-pixelling. This means that you don't get more screen estate but doubles each pixel both horizontally and vertically...
Btw, first post. Hi all! Been lurking around on this forum for ages... Well since the Magician came out.

[Universal Owners] Please upload Comm Manager For Wiz Users

The wireless manager in the universal seems to have the Phone Off,BT,Wifi and all off.
While the Manager in the wizard has Vibrate,Ring,Wifi,BT and activesync.
Can we get the universals manager on the wizard?
vbguru613: I doubt there's any reason why you couldn't do a rom rip and move it across. But why Universal to Wizard? Wizard's sounds better.
I kinda made a command line utility to replace the manager, given VGA difficulties of the manager on the Uni. But Wizard's could be much more interesting.
V
can you send me the CommManager from the universal?
I'll try to get to it, but I'm not near my home PC until later today. If anyone else has got a copy, jump in!
If you've got it at hand, wanna trade me your Wizard's manager
V
I need the Universal comm manager too. I dont see the point of turning on vibration in an application called COMM manager!!
Comm Manager Wizard
Here it is.
If you have a universal please do the same.
To developer guru's I suggest:
ON/OFF:
- Phone
- WiFi
- BT
- IR
- Proxy
and maybe: - sound ON/OFF (Ring/Vibrate)
I think will be a good APP.
arp - I've got a new app I'm working on, VJBlooToof (temporary name, maybe). A couple of guys are trying it out right now, but it's basically going to be an interface to most comms stuff.
I haven't added proxy and vibra, but I'll look into it. Also some other hacks not mentioned on your list
V
VJ,
I think You can do it! Will be a great program!
Names: VJComm; VJCManager; VJAllComm (I like first!)
Do you develop in VB? What toll?
Thanks
Arp - I develop in c++ unfortunately. It's not for people who want to keep their hair until they are 30  It can be very frustrating, but I'm getting used to it slowly. (on the PC I develop in VB, if I need to write any quick programs.)
Hmm, the names are too obvious  I'm thinking of VJVolubilis.
It started out as a small app I made to test VJElectrify (programs to test bluetooth/voice command on the Universal). I put some other functions into it, but I will use the code in some other apps that control communications. But for me, at least, it's useful to have access and control over all communications functions in one place.
V
[Universal Owners] Please upload here
Just tried to copy Comm Manager from my Exec but it won't let me (Access denied). How can I get past this?
can you explore your universal from active sync and in the windows folder can you "Copy" it to your desktop and then upload from your desktop.
No, that's what I tried to do - it won't let me copy anything from the Windowsdirectory - either through Active Sync or on my device Any ideas would be great!
can you copy from your device to somewhere other then the windows directory internally using REsco or file explorer.
Or maybe the file is running. you have to end the process to copy it use the attached file (copy to device and run it) and end the process tree of commngr.exe and then copy it.
Tried resco, tried the task manager, tried renaming the file, all with no success. There has to be a way!
did you end the task (process tree)?
yeah, still wont copy
Uni WirelessMgr
Here you go guys.
Not sure if it'll work due to ripping procedure, but let me know.
V
VB: CommManager.exe doesn't seem to work. Does it have associated dlls?

What do you mean with "isolate it"?
It's possible to make a separated cab with this? I would built it in on my ext ROM.

Here Check this, I just packed that into cab from my ROM's OEM Package.
It will assign the voice button to alttab
WORKING CAB
I have rebuild your cab because the link inside was corrupted.
I've tried it, and works... perhaps when you invoke the app,it switch directly to the next switch. With SPB ALT-TAB you can see all apps opened, and also select with finger what do you want to restore... It's so cool.
All the other that I've seen, switch directly to next apps like your.
Then here it is, the Spb One:
ANyway in spb plus option there is an option to remove unused component
see in start-setting-system-spb pocket plus
click tools and click uninstall component
It's just an .exe file I copied to my windows directory, created a shortcut and maped it to my ptt button. worls as a standalone app like a charm.
Yes...I have tried too and works great.
It's wonderfull
Thanks.
I've installed on my PDA, it looks very nice!
In the beginning; I couldn't found it. It doesn't make automatically a shortcut to Programs. So I made it and made a shortcut too in the Traylaunch of Battery Status and as first shortcut in START. Where did you made shortcuts to this program?
Its cool~
And how about a soft-reset short-cut??
SPB Pocket Plus Voice Command Functions
Well, this thread already solved my Alt-Tab need from SPB. Has anybody been able to get the Voice Command functions to work without SPB fully installed?
I'm a voice command fan and use it constantly with a bluetooth head set. It was great to just say: "Start - Suspend" after ending a call and the phone would go into standby or "Start - Screen saver" and the screen would turn off when I'm on WIFI downloading something and want to save some battery life. I looked for these on SPB Mobile Shell and aren't available.
Anybody solved this?
maybe this is interesting for you:
MSCEInf is a nice tool which lets you analyze every .cab file:
it shows you all files, all directories and registry entries. and you can extract single files if you want.
with it i simply extracted the alttab.exe file from pocketplus and copied it on my ppc. so i didn't need to install the app.
A little more help
Ok, I could consider myself a power user, but I'm not at that level just yet. (better said, I gotta long way to go)
I got the software, I was able to Identify the executioner which would be spbservices.exe, now, how do I pull it out? Would I need to modify any registry?
Thanks
this one is really easy:
just drag&drop the cab file into the WinCE Cabs Analyser. then go to the "files" tab (if it is named so. i use the german build) and in the list with the file id 20 there is a "alttab.exe".
one simply drag&drop and you have your file ^^
I'm getting there
Trust me, it'll be easy for me after this last question:
Where do I drag and drop it? I select it and drop it in which folder? As of yet it's not working. I tried selecting it and dropping it over any other folder in Windows and it tells me it's unable to read the file, i've tried it on a browsing folder on my PPC and it doesn't answer anything, nor do anything.
Thanks for your patience.
Thanks man!
I was looking for quick-Alt-Tab applications. wunderfull....
Guys, is this copyrighted software? If so, please remove it from the thread.
We don't support piracy on this board. I will be forced to evacuate my bowels on those that are assisting and persisting. We ban first and ask questions later.

Olay, I downloaded the SNE SPB AltTab file but I do not know what to do with it... could you explain what to do for a newbie?
