I need a lock util for my old xda 2 (pocket pc 2003). I heard about "Yet another device lock" but cant find a download page or anything.
basically i need to run a App whilst having the screen off (or low brightness) and the buttons locked.
can anyone suggest anything?

Andrew

Yes i did and found a WM5 version which is no good to me. I was hoping there was a pocket 2003 version like my post asks.
and i gather there isnt one!!!!

Ah, in that case asking for Yet Another Device Lock's download page was a red herring!
pLock is generally considered the best alternative in the absence of WM5, although Screenguard from PocketMax is also a wise choice.
http://www.pocketmax.net/screenGuard.html
Several other alternatives exist. Deltalock is also a good choice.

Not really a red herring, i wondered if there was a archive of versions with a ppc03 version. Unfortunately as it seems to be new and wm5 only .. no :-(
I am still having issues
pLock ..... only locks screen and not buttons.
Screenguard doesn't work properly on the xda2 it fails to disable talk button and the power button for that matter ..... i contacted support and awaiting hopefully some help.
any other suggestions i can try?
...... just downloading deadlock

Andrew
VJDeviceLock and Yet Another... are based on the same technique of loading and enabling the built in device lock feature. However, this feature is only built in on relatively new WM5 roms... You won't have any luck with them on WM2003.
However, there used to be a few apps that could lock buttons and or screen for WM2003. I think Mort does one, I'm afraid I don't have links to that one, but look around on the forum...
I don't think any apps natively allow you to disable the power button for obvious reasons. However, if you really need one, a custom app could be written for you. But I suggest trying out a few of the other choices first.

I am looking for a decent lock program too. I have an ipaq rx5940 with the devicelock today plugin available. What I am looking for is a way to lock the buttons when I switch it off. I tried the "Yet another" that should lock the device when it suspends but it does not.
I carry the ipaq in a pouch on my belt and already I have had problems when I forget to lock it manually.
I know there is a way to lock the device with a pin, but that is not what I am looking for.
Any ideas?
How are you locking the ipaq right now? Does your today plugin work?

Hi
I've been looking hard with no success.
How to remove the status line from the Today screen in Qtek 9100/WM5.0. It shows WiFi and Battery status - which I don't need here - while taking the precious space...
Any idea?
Help please!
Sorry to post again here but I can't believe that there is nobody suffering from this and that there is nobody who has solved the issue until now.
There are so many Today screen plug-ins that show the information, not to mention the information is useless here - I believe.
Please let me know if it's me being a mega-geek finding ways to make something better or the answer is so simple that nobody bothers to post.
:?
if it is that important to you - here's your solution: remove Init_Tray.lnk from "\windows\start up", restart and you are done.
did i help you? then recommend me
cheers, lutz
Thats not what makes the tray. That program adds the Wifi and battery bar. You have to take out any program that uses the tray. If a program uses the tray , then the tray is automatically created.
isn't that exactly what the guy has there? why do you jump in here? if you have any other problem than kristo_ch feel free to ask....

Shame on me. So simple. Thanks lutzh.
simple if you know it. i always erase anything in start up in the first trials. trouble here was that i haven't got it back when i wanted it back

Perhaps the self proclaimed "guru" is jealous he didn't know the answer (although it's not a complete solution, as some apps like PI will bring it back, but it's a start - thanks lutz!).

I don't get what's going on. Why aren't people playing nice?
The Tray can be made to not be present, by removing all tray-able apps.
However, the tray can be programmatically brute force hidden if required, even if full of apps.

topcaser: No not yet... I'm working on it between lots of other things, but it needs to be compatible with WM5 and WM2003 and they both require very different techniques. WM5 version is done though, but not released:

Hey VJ,
I too want a battery which I can charge beyond 100%!!! ;-)
I would have to adjust the e_stat app to show it though....
yeah, 255% battery is cool. You can see into the future. it's cold though, -5 degrees C
V
How do you get 100%. If I read the batstat I get a percentage.
And where did you get the temperature from?
Bye,
Thijs.
Doezel: temperature is built into the battery, from the battery api.
I don't understand the "100%" battery.
The 255% is coming just from the emulator having fits!
V
VJ:
I get it. I use evc4, and use getbatterylifepercent, which returns a value between 0 and 100. It's not a byte.
Which IDE do you use?
Hi,
Is it possible to get an update for the Terminal Server Client so it can run on the Windows Server 2003.
/Jesper
You mean have W2K3 accessed via your HTC Universal? AFIAK it's always been possible. Indeed, I've been doing that since I bought my MDA Pro in the week of the UK launch about a year ago
You only need to adjust the settings on the Server to allow the Client Compatible enryption level as the WM2003/WM5 TS client does not support 128 bit encryption.
If want a good experience search out VJFSTSC from this site
(VJ's Full screen Terminal Server Client). A full 640x480 screen makes the Exec an excellent tool to administer servers without needing to cart a laptop around
I didn't think anyone was still using it! I'll have to update it when I get a few spare minutes!

yes i'm using it and have run into problems
somehow when i use full screen mode (it took ages to figure out i had to disable "limit server size to fit screen", if it was enabled your full screen hack didn't work), the last line at the bottom will not respond, i.e the taskbar, anything on it, and the start button. if i don't use your hack, no problems. (but no full screen either )
a friend's qtek 9000 doesn't have this problem with your hack.
do you have any ideas? thanks..
cmonex: you need to post in the VJFSTSC thread, but this was a bug with an earlier version, that should have been fixed in the latest version. I haven't worked on it for months and months due a perversly busy schedule, but I'll try to look into it further. It still needs lots of work.

FYI all, there has been a post that you can use a virtual screen manager with VJFSTSC to get >VGA screen resolutions, eg SVGA. It'll look quite crap, but it should work... but I think opening word (and Vista?) on your Universal is a cool way to make a gadget freak's mouth water.

YES PLEASE
I've found your little app to be one of the most useful apps for the Exec.
1024x768 shrunk to fit the screen is terrible but using a 800 x 600 @ 100% screen and virtual display's navigational options to scroll around has proved to be usefull from time to time.
When you get some time to update VJFSTSC I'd be glad to put forward a few suggestions but something that would be neat would be an ability to map a couple of buttons to CTRL & ALT but only whilst VJFSTSC is running

What do you guys mean about the ctrl+alt key combos? Give me an example.
V
As certain keys such as <CTRL> , <ALT> and maybe <Esc> are not found on the Exec but are used quite a bit on Windows it would be really usefull if these keys could be mapped to some of the physical keys such as the E-mail, Home Page, Contacts, Phone but only when VJFSTSC is active. Normally these buttons are assigned to their own functions but this behavior is overridden whilst VJFSTSC is active.
This could be taken a small step further by assigning the Windows key to open the START menu on the windows PC instead of the Exec and possibly using the Ok key to bring up a configuration menu in VJFSTSC with a few other options including the ability to save a config file so any settings such as show/hide SIP are retained the next time VJFSTSC is launched.
I better stop there, as I was intending to give an example of mapping options not a full blown wishlist
thanks, vijay555.
nice ideas, Taz69... would be real cool.
Hello again my dear friends,
As you might installed and worked with S2U2 (aka Slide 2 Unlock), you would see lack of an item like standard windows mobile's Device Lock item.
First I developed an managed one (I mean using .net compact framework). As far as it can take more memory space and has less functionality, I coded a new application in pure C++.
I have tested this application on WM 6.0 and great TNT WM 6.1 on my device (Wizard).
I hope you enjoy using it.
I would be really glad to hear from you. So please post your ideas and comments.
Thank you.
Note:
1- Second file is customized for one of the XDA users.
2- Third file is made to fix the version 2.02 compatibility.
how does it work?
i've installed it...and now what?
how do i access it?
let's check it out...downloading now

Just install it on your Device (not your storage card). Then go to Start>Settings>Today>Items
there you should see S2U2 Device Lock item. Make sure it is selected and then press OK and close Today.
Now you should have a new item added to your Today Screen.

Great work! You should change the name of the thread to S2U2 today plugin though.
EDIT: UNDER DEVELOPEMENT AND WILL BE RELEASED WHEN READY! KEEP AN EYE ON THIS THREAD!!!!
Here's an idea... when you turn your phone off, it locks... when you turn it on, you must roll your thumb/finger to the right around the wheel of the diamond to unlock it...
as you wheel around, the white line around the circle begins to fill from the top, moving rightward around...
sorry for the poor image quality, i just threw it together as a thought.
I hope a developer can throw this together, prolly isn't hard at all and would really be cool for the diamond. Better graphics and glowing line ofcourse.
its simple and utilizes the unique hardware of the diamond, and also the pro.

anyone like?
anyone down to try and create it?
Wish i could, but i have no idea where to start. i'm in the dark here.
to clear up any confusion that may come up, the lights on the wheel itself don't need to light up as you wheel around... only the circle on the screen.
as you would pass a point on the wheel, another section of the ring on the screen would fill in.
Sounds like a good idea. Hope someone have the time to make it.
im sure that 'wheel-2-unlock' is one of the features of the TouchXperience ROM but it would take a long time for this rom to be released i guess.
TouchXperience is a ROM? Not just a cab installation?

CapacitiveFingerLock
I am working on such an idea already for a week or so:
CapacitiveFingerLock.
It will have another locking/unlocking mechanism on top of StylusLock, as described in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2681112&postcount=62
Because I am now on a business trip in America, I had not much time to work on the program. But I haven proven already that it works. I have to remove some stuff from the proven program, and integrate it with my already existing StylusLock. The goal is that it does NOT cost extra battery power and CPU and is really simple to use.
The reason to add this, is to have it possible to lock and unlock "one handed". The StylusLock approach cannot be done "one handed", e.g. on a bike. Also some people do not like to operate with the StylusLock. The combination with this new CapacitiveFingerLock and existing StylusLock will suit more people. And sometimes people will use the Stylus, so they will get the right behaviour depended on the usage.
Good idea, as I do not use any locks or such applications, but this one sounds nice. Just remember that this app should not conflict with, or somehow overcover and incomming call

anyone? Personally I like the Samsung lockscreen because of the touchplayer controls built in. So if someone can figure out a way to turn the button into a slider it would be awesome..
did you try Slide2Unlock. Not using it myself, but they have some nice options, but I don't remember if they have a music player options build in.
yeah i tried that, with vj brisk, but I am trying not to install more stuff..trying to keep free space and use fewer resources.
I had it.... And switched it instantly when i heard of S2U2....
Why? because of the lack of customization... and i think its more safe having a slide to wanser when getting the pda from the pockets
to VODOOS user
Yes, if you install Slide2Play, when the app is open, the controls show up on the lockscreen. even better that the S2U2 has some options to open S2P when you plug the hearphones, it has a option to show album-art on lock screen when playing music... and some more things... shame is that S2P is a bit basic... But in adiction with S2U2 , works very well.
