hey guys.
after searching on this forum, all i found was that the searching tools are a bit rubbish.
so i was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for finding out what o2 crap is safe to delete from my universal's extrom.
ta.
If you can't be bothered to look, I can't be bothered to tell you...
If the site is crap go somewhere else!
i did bother to look, and i know it's there, but the search isn't coming up with it
and i mean the o2 customizations are crap - this site is AWESOME!
sorry for the misunderstanding
fair enough....
i got an xda exec to, and yes O2 are crap for a few reasons 1) no new AKUs 2) there AKUs are **** anyway 3) Data tariff....
I have just loaded helmi AKU 3.5 - would give that a try, safe and secure.
see here for data tariff
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284391
i can't find that rom on the ftp server, what folder is it in?
AKU 3.5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286036
Its a good one
ta muchly.

Apologies if i've overlooked or missed it but I can't seem to find a summing up of the roms, tweaks, patchs etc...
There are a few links, tips, howtos, etc I believe would be great for a sticky in this forum....
I've recently bought the so called "MDA Compact" in the UK on T-Mobile. Though now unlocked, am using my O2 Pay&Go SIM. I have TomTom running a treat with my BT GPS receiver.
When booting the following are displayed (I understand this relates to the software versions)
R 1.00.10
G 1337.36
D 1.01.00 WWE
I guess the first question I really have is which bits would you recommend updating? (and why? additional software, enhanced performance etc?)
From the threads I've read so far It seems there's a hidden "partition" on the rom (aka extended) which contains a bunch of .cab files that automatically installed on first boot (installing camera app, gprs/wap settings, dialler app etc). It would seem a good idea to amend these somewhat (get rid of the ugly T-Mobile skins and get some nice ones on there...) Add the O2 pay&go cab for gprs/wap/mms settings etc, maybe a decent photo contacts app etc then perform a hard reset...
Lots to discover and talk about, so little time (and patience grr!)- If anyone is interested I will see if i can pull together a summary of what i've found so far by trawling through threads... and consider making it a sticky?
P.S. I don't suppose there's an IRC channel?
The first thing I'd do is upgrade the "R" component - the radio. You get much better BT and phone call function.
As far as the ExtROM goes, I have seen apps to unlock it on the XDA II but they never worked properly on the mini. If you can find it, please let us all know!
K
yeah sticky would be cool, i also searched 2 days now over the hole forum and threads, but damm, its sooooooo big lol, one is sayin that, the other one is sayin another thing so im a little bit confused... but i didnt want to post again cuz they all r 1337 in that things and "i just bore them"...

TyTN goes wiki
A wiki page has been opened for the TyTN
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
Please look here before asking questions on the forum.
All users can edit this page so you can all add information thus making it a better source of information.
A bit of a old news to anyone who has half a brain.
pof has been taking good care of the wiki for a while now.

Hi - just klicked throught the wiki and there are many links/downloads not working: page not found and so on...
Regards,
Martin
Yes a lot of things screwed after the forum migrations. I already asked the site admins if there's a way to fix it, so they are aware of it and I hope will fix it soon.
Maybe nice to add to the WIKI: I've got me a brand new Vario II sr 642F, so far problem free, stylus feels perfect when pulling out, keybord is smooth yet firm and tidly around all corners... no problems yet... knock on wood
one question though guys that i wouldnt mind answered... Im in australia and looking at buying a TyTn but obviously HTC arent supplying them directly, so its IMATE or DOPOD, now DOPOD are saying their model is Bluetooth 2.0 and IMATE says theirs is 1.2, but arent these the same devices the JASJAM and 838Pro??
thank you.......
Linux & hermes
Hi,
Is not possible to run Linux yet on HTC TyTN. I`ll must wait for a release??
If I must wait is there a roadmap for the linux port??
I hate M$

Heya guys,
can we get a sticky to the wiki back on the Hermes Upgrade page?
Hey guys thanks for the wiki and all the great information on the forum. It's all been great in helping me change from my Blackjack to the Hermes! Thanks all!
Thanx
Hi all...
I'm about to get the Dopod 838Pro, and am very grateful that this sort of a forum exists... I am very scared, i don't particularly want to stuff it up... but knowing what sorts of updates and tweaks exist is GREAT
Keep up the good work, and hopefully I will be able to contribute
Hello,
I have a french SPV M3100.
I've seen on wiki page ( http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtendedRoms ) that it was missing french SPV M3100 extended rom.
I don't know if that can be of any help, but I've retrieved these files out of the SPV.
Would it be interesting for anyone to have these files uploaded to the xda ftp ?
Unfortunatly, I can't get access to the ftp (timeout), might be because, at work, I have a proxy that might block ftp access.
But tell me, I should be able to do it @ home.
Cheers from France.

Is there a way of saving the wiki to my local hdd and reading it there? I'm frequently away from home and it would be handy to have the resource to hand

There may be freeware ways of doing this but I have used this and I've just tested it on the Hermes wiki with a link depth of 2 and it worked fine. It has a trial period and a free download so nothing lost if it's not what you're looking for:

First off, Welcome to The Forum
And for you're question, I can see it here no problem. Is it just the wiki that's not loading? If you're running Firefox and have NoScript or any other "Security" tool then check that it is not blocking anything?!
Let us know of you're progress, though.
Cheers
Elwyn

Hi Ashraf, and welcome to the forum
I don't see what this has to do with the missing wiki. You'd get a better response from the board if you put this in a new thread.
If you go back to the main HERMES thread (which is where this message is at and click on the
button you will be able to create a new thread.
Does anyone know whether its possible to download a standard vanilla WM5 ROM to stick on my Universal?
Currently I have a T-Mobile ROM on it but I'm running into difficulties setting up GPRS and MMS on it. I had a quick word with someone at Carphone Warehouse on the off chance that he might know the solution and he told me (how accurately I don't know) that even if I have managed to unlock it (done, thanks to Buzz's wonderful little tool) putting the GPRS/MMS settings into it will be hard because of all the extra crap that T-Mobile install onto the thing.
So I guess the question I am asking really is do I need a vanilla WM5 Rom or do I need to dig into the registry to clean out the rubbish T-Mobile left in there? Or does the solution to my problem lie in a completely different direction?
Cheers,
Alan
I can give you I-mate's vanilla ROM (by Jwrightcmp). Click the link on my sig.
Fantastic, thanks very much for that!
*wanders off to the wiki to make sure he has the steps for updating right*
I'll let you know how it goes (might be a couple of days though)
Thanks,
Alan
Hi everybody
As you know,CLEARVUE is a default PDF Reader software which is already installed in the extended-Rom of some of the Dopod and other ppc's Roms.I had a problem with this damn program which is installed automatically in customization (After a hard reset). Does anybody know how I can install such a programs?
I have to remind that there is no sign and name of this program in Removing Programs' section...
My PPC is Dopod 818 and the rom version is 2.15.13.27
You couldn't!
It's so shocking to see there is even no one in such a huge forum with such a reputation to know which cab.file inside the Ext-Rom is installing Clearvue(Default PDF reader)...
I'm Really disappointed

Oh.. no.. I'm so scared And by that, you've just lost 1 answer.. but probably the killer post of all is the one above, which probably cost you a lot more answers. I'm not sure where in the world makes you think that, a ranting post will give you the answer. Good luck with you ranting And I'm pretty sure there are many forgiving members here are willing to give you an answer.

I'm a forgiving person.
Basically, you can't uninstall any operator added applications. What you can do is cook up a ROM that does not contain ClearVue. Cooking ROMs is outside of my expertise so you need to find out by searching the forum if there are any such ROMs already out there.
You might even want to try WM6, look in the WM6 section.

Dear TheBrit
I don't know how to thank you for, at least, directing me to the helpful links within the forum.Hope the other ARROGANT member (like your above post-sender) learn a bit from you...
About your second advise,"You might even want to try WM6, look in the WM6 section",are you sure one can replace Ext_rom of WM6 with Windows Mobile 5's?
Thanks again....Thanks again....Thanks again....
Hi all, another noob!
I've done a few searches to no avail so a simple question with lots of possible answers I'm sure:
As I have just received my O2 XDA Orbit, what, if anything, would the Moderators/Admin guys recommend I do to improve the performance of my Orbit (not that I am aware of any limits so far) or what essential bits of software should I have? Please be aware that my knowledge of computers, PDA's and all this other techno-wizardry could be written on the back of a nano-bot in large font, so please, it will have to be kept to a very very simple level.
If I am too dumb to be able to do anything other than enjoy what I have, please feel free to say so!

You could try reading the wiki - or using the search button for a start.....

But U guess that being a noob you have the honour of asking 1 silly question!!!
Enjoy the forums.

You see, one stupid question and I get access to something I wouldn't have known to look for. Now all I have to do is understand wtf it's all about. Never heard of a wiki before so I'm not sure what to do about that. That link looks great, but again I have no idea how to utilise it.
Sometimes, some of you guys forget just how difficult it is for noobs to this game!
Thanks though.
Since you are not looking for anything particular, using the search would be useless - the wiki is good but has many information for advanced noobies so why don't you start with reading all the threads that you find to be interesting.
I'd recommend you to go to pocketpcmag.com and check out the "best sites" section and start reading about pdas in general, download some apps and get to know Windows Mobile. Try your first registry hack or simply take a look inside to find out how it funtions.
When you have managed this (could take a month or more) then pick a ROM and flash it to your device. Before you do this be sure to do use the USPL patch and make sure you are doing everthing right BEFORE you do it! When your device is "bricked" you probably need help from somebody in the forum. It's better to have a working backup plan before you try that.
I think Meschle's ROM is a good start if you ever wanna try because he included the USPL patch to be sure that uploading his ROM doesn't mess with your pda.
Have fun using this great pda!

Thanks for that...things do start to become clearer. I will check out that web site and I think I now realise that this site is more for advanced users than complete newbies like me...sorry!
I will try a registy hack (once I find out how to do it... )
Thanks for your reply! <beer>
