Hi everybody, wonder if someone can help me.
I have both a K-Jam (just received and love it) and a JASJAR (love 3G and VGA Screen, hate it's slowness, big time, k-jam is by far faster and therefore usable).
I've installed the same app's on both machines. Doing this I've noticed that on the JASJAR it just installs them with no problems, on the K-Jam everytime I install an app, it first asks me if I really want to install it since it does not have a recognised certificate (or something like that). I always say yes and the app install (and work correctly... aside from one, see below).
However, amongst the app's installed is Resco Explorer, together with the Resco Registry Editor app. When I try and start up the Reg App, i get a message that says that "the file ':RRegistry' cannot be opened. Either it's not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall this file". Well, I did try reinstalling it and the same problem persist (BTW Resco Explorer and its other plug-ins work correctly). I therefore assume it's got because of this "certificate" problem I mentioned above.
Is anyone else getting this message on installations and is anyone else having problems with Resco Registry Editor? If yes, has anyone found a solution to fix this problem (i.e. being able to use the reg editor app)?? Please help me... i really want/need to be able to modify the registry on the K-Jam.... Thanks in advance
you you install the new version on the website the wm2005 version all work fine, i have the same problem with the 2003 version of it. but works fine now
i do get the message when i install programs,
i have installed & used both resco explorer & reg edit without any problems?
they both work fine for me (used reg edit for tomtom nav 5)
Resco Registry
I have the same problem. My version of Resco Explorer is v5.35, which is the latest.
It was working fine before I updated my Dopod 818 pro ROM.
Any insight?
Thanks.
Same problem here with my Universal... Any help ?
Hi,
I recently installed 'Kick off slot machine' game on my XDA mini s and when i go to 'remove programs' it wont remove it. I've tried soft reseting.
How can i get rid of it?
Can i just go into file explorer and delete the files in its program folder?
yes but u would be better off removing the reg entries aswell allthough it wont cause harm.
tried removing using active sync , add remove programs , as sometimes that works for me where the one on the device does not work.
I have found that quite often uninstalls just don't work. For example, before I resorted to a recent hard reset, I had only a few megs of RAM available. Turns out it was because although it "appeared" that such things had been uninstalled, they had in fact not been uninstalled.
The way I do it now, and I reckon this is the only way to do it, is to go to Add/Remove programs in Activesync and uncheck the box of the app/game to be removed. This seems to work (even on apps installed by CAB or on other machines).
Stegz
Ok thanks.
By the way, how do you find and delete reg entries? Which folder are they stored in?
Use SK Tools, it is the best soft for cleaning and everything
-www.s-k-tools.com
You'll need something like PHM Regedit, or I use Total Commander. I'm no expert but you'll be able to get help with registry keys etc here.
Alternatively, purchase MemMaid which (I think) removes redundant registry entries.
Oh ok, thanks very much.
Just one more quick question, if you install something, remove it, then decide you want it installed again does it just overwrite the previously created reg entries?
does it just overwrite the previously created reg entries

Yes, if it is the same version of software.

I was using this amazing application but after it's installation i was unable to uninstall any program from "Add/Remove Programs". Not even S-K Tools. The only solution was a hard reset. Do you have anything on mind for this issue?
P.S: The version i was using: 2.2.10
Yes, developer knows about this, he said, new version fixed.
I have ver.2.3.15.6 and tested, good things, Backup is working in WM5.

Hi, was wondering does it backup contacts and have you tried restoring after hard reset?
Yes, I did. The only one problem, SK Tools made funny records about
installed software, so in the list, You have only what was installed after
You installed SK Tools. I think it was already fixed, but didn't test it.
thanks fresh123breeze,
think i'll go for it. its not a lot to pay for what it claims it can do.
Sorry for such a newbie question - but which app is everyone using to access the registry?
Many thanks
Chris
Total Commander http://www.ghisler.com/ce.htm is freeware and works a treat.
Thanks!
Chris
p.s. is there an app which can be run from a pc to do this (i.e. over the usb connection to the wizard)?
Hmmm, i tried Total Commander on my new O2 Mini S (WM5, English IMate ROM) and couldn't get it to work. is anyone else having this problem? anyone know of another reg editor that works on my device?
Thanks.
lskb
I don't know of any software for editing the registry via USB connection, sorry.
wubaguba
Did you use the tcmdpocketarm download from http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm for install from the device?
HTH
wuba.. could you tell us exactly what part of it isn't working ?
I've got it installed - and it works fine.
If you want to edit the registry, go to the "\\" dir, then enter the registry.
I don't use it for editing the registry, though - it's not really well-suited for that. I do use it for *searching* the registry, however - as it's just VERY fast at that (it'll find all hits and display them in a list on the screen).
For the actual editing, I use PHM Regedit - it's free
http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Utilities/2005/1/Mobile_Registry_Editor.aspx
Try this one - it is based on the PC and works across the USB
Thanks, flashgordonv, I had found the Mobile Registry Editor site but the user comments seem to suggest that it doesn't support WM5. Have you used it on a WM5 device?
Chris
i use PHM registry editor, and am happy with that.

Sure....I could not go back up the directory structure when trying to locate a file. that was the main issue but there were other minor annoyances like not being able to see the bottom of the screen after my windows keyboard popped up. the version i tried was this one...
http://ghisler.fileburst.com/ce/tcmdpocketarm.exe
Btw...i couldn't get to the PHM editor via the prior link but this one worked...
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/phmregistryeditor.shtml
Sorry, can I ask the dumb question about which of the many cab files it produces I should copy onto my Qtek9100?
Just to confirm mobile registry editor works fine. I recreated my comms manager entry with it yesterday.
Joe
Most registry editors are compatible with WM5/ the Wizard. See http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/UltimateRoundupOfRegistryEditors.asp for more info.
What version of the wizard have you got mobile registry editor to work on?
I get access denied when trying to write to a HKLM value on a VARIO 1.6.2.4
Do we need to unlock RAPI?
If so how is this done?

Did you do it with the desktop-based MRE? It indeed won't work - HKLM is protected against outer access (see this article for more info on this new, WM5+ protection). Do it from a PPC-based registry editor - I've tested with Resco and it works flawlessly.
I use ROM version 1.5.X so that I can write to my Extended ROM. Hope this works with 1.6.x too. If not even Resco is able to modify anything under HKLM with ROM version 1.6.x, let me know.
Yes I can use local PPC based reg editors ok to edit the HKLM hive, but I wanted to get the PC based one working as it is more convenient to remote edit.
On the MRE web site it talks about blocked remote access and MS tools to reconfigure RAPI, was wondering if anyone had managed to find a configuration that worked.

It doesn't work with remote editors. Dunno whether this restriction can be circumvented. Use a PPC remote controller app (see http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=514&more=1 ) for this to make your life easier.
Hi Guys,
Just got my K-Jam today. The smartdialling.dll file is there, however I don't have the option to enable it (nor does it work) in the phone app! Any ideas? I'd rather no hard reset again, i've just got the apps on!!!
TiA,
CK
did you try to install the smartdialing cab?
go to \Extended Rom (eg with the free Total Commander)
and find a file with something like 'smartdialing' in it s name. make a copy of that file and then execute the CAB so that it will be installed.
probably you will have to shutdown your device completely after this to get the result.
another option would be to do a hard reset and let the applications install from extended rom on boot, but I guess you will prefer the first way...
hope that works for you, it did work for me...
CIAO!

Thanks VoodooS!L! Worked a treat!
Hi,
I have a problem with TT7 on my HD2.
After installing TT7, the phone starts up with an error message: BTTray something is not a valid program.
And that disables Bluetooth completely.
I wonder if anyone else has this problem and if there's a fix for it.
The TT version is 7.916.9189
Any suggestions appreciated,
M.
Delete/rename \Windows\BtSdkCE30.dll and \Windows\BtCoreIf.dll
Then soft reset

Hi Exlo,
I didn't find BtSdkCE30, do have a BtSdkCE50 instead, but wasn't sure if that should be deleted as well.
I've deleted the BtCoreIf.dll and although Bluetooth still works after installation, TT doesn't run: Invalid Windows Mobile version.

Hello,
I've had the exactly same problem that you have, I couldn't find any solution so I just made an Hard reset after having saved all my pim data with My phone. If you can't find a solution maybe you should do so.
Good luck there.

TomTom overwrites 2 files:
\Windows\BtSdkCE30.dll
\Windows\BtCoreIf.dll
renaming these 2 files (add .bak extension or something) and performing a soft reset should restore the default dll's and fix the problem.
If that doesn't work:
I used a cab file for TTN that's HD2 specific.
Don't recall where I found it (usenet maybe, or through a messageboard), but it skips the bluetooth dll installation.
Filename of th cab I have used: HTC_HD2_TomTom_7.916.9189_vga_black_nobt.cab
Well known problem
This is nothing new. TomTom installs have been doing this since version 6. You'll need to 'Show all files' in File Explorer to see the BtCoreIf.dll and the BtSdkCE30.dll or you can use something like Total Commander.
I've done this on many devices and it all works fine so long as you delete these 2 files and then soft reset. DON'T delete anything else though!!!! That'll probably screw your Bluetooth up.
i found that tomtom stops my FM radio working!
Yes TomTom messed up my Bluetooth, FM radio and ?WiFi too.
I was only a day or to into my ownership so didn't mind a hard reset.
I copied all TomTom related files to the storage card before the hard reset.
When it rebooted I copied the navigator.exe as a short cut to the start menu. It has worked perfectly since.

I just renamed the \Windows\BtCoreIf.dll then everything was working again

Same thing here. I renamed to btcoreif.dll.old, did a soft reboot and no more error messages. also my bluetooth now works again.
Thanks for the solution!

Got same problem here...
I've renamed BtCoreIf.dll, deleted BtSdkCE30.dll using default WM file explorer displaying all files and rebooted the device.
Works perfectly! FM radio too
Thanks.
