When I'm on the phone with the Cingular 8525, I would randomly hear some kind of soft typing/clicking noise through the speaker.. I tried talking on the phone with my bluetooth headset and I still hear the damn noise!
Anyone else experience this?
possible screen tap sound from your cheek or something in your pocket (when using bluetooth) touching the screen? turn off screen tap sounds and see if it goes away.
I hear the same thing when I'm driving down the Pennsylvania Turnpike... It just may be one of the reasons I return this phone... Never had this issue w/ my other phone.

I used to get various clicks/sounds, which were meant to be there but annoying until I turned off event sounds etc.

I'm not aware of this being reported by others, except for a couple on this thread. So if event sounds are of and no apps running like push mail then I would think it's a faulty device.
Just for info you described the noise but I'm not clear whether this is an occasional sound or a more or less continuous noise. I'm afraid this device when you get a good one is briliant but there is a high number of flakey ones out there. Warranty return??

You're probably well aware of this but just in case. Turning of screen tap sounds is not the same as turning off event sounds. Event sounds can be heard for all sorts of reasons including taping screen i.e when application starts to open but also as for example a wifi network is detected and any other event like switching from 3g etc etc.

My unit just started that weird rhythmic clicking sound this Friday. I've had the unit for a month. I get the noise in all places I've used the phone - all around the city.
The clicks happen in pairs, 1 pair roughly per second. A sequence of these pairs lasts between 3 and 10 iterations. Then a break the length of one pair and off they go again.
I too have done a soft reset and stopped all apps running. The clicking persists.

Hello
I am really beginning to hate this lousy phone, I have now lost all sound. I picked up the phone to remove some software and noticed I was getting no system sound. So, I opened media player no sound from the music, plugged in headphones and the music was playing. I made a phone call, could speak to and hear the person on the line, I asked them to call me back and nothing.
I have searched the board and found some people saying that the phone sometimes gets stuck in headphone mode, but I was not using the headphones. Anyway I have spent the past 5 minutes inserting, twiddling and removing headphones, but I can not get the sound back, guess it must be hardware failure.
Any ideas or similar problems out there?

I've had this a couple of times and found that a soft reset will sort it out.
I have similar problem--it seems to be the connection to the speaker/ringer. I can get some sound by tapping the top of the case. The small speaker for the earpiece is not affected. Tried resetting anyway to no avail. Will probably send back for repair soon. I am keeping it on vibrate now.

Paul, how long did you have your phone from Orange when it first happened?
I have had mine around 1 month now, I have 'Soft Reset' and 'Hard Reset' but the problem is still there. Did you get yours directly from Orange or a dealer, have you spoken to either?
I am going to call the dealer tommorrow and try to get them to send a swap out, this is an obvious defect if it has died in a month.

Yes resetting does not seem to work, try to get a swap out if you can, I am going to try tommorrow, it has to be a manufacturing fault.

I think you are right, it does appear to be a connection fault. I started media player tapped near the speaker a few times and got a second or two of music then it died again, it gives stuttering sound when tapped.

My Dopod 818 Pro unfortunately also has the same problem. Anyone have any advise on the best way to reach Dopod? I am living in NY and I bought the phone in Wanchai. I tried emailing them, but there has been no response. Thanks in advance.
Hi
Just sent my phone back for a new one, Orange confirmed it was a hardware fault and said I was entitled to a replacement phone. Seems that this is a known issue with the Prophet. They would not say though if it was just part of a bad batch, or generally bad manufacturing. I guess we will see when your phones begin to fail.

Hi,
It happens now and then - not more than around one a month. Not a hardware fault in my case just windows doing its occasional bug thing.

I reckon it's probably a bad batch. I got mine just after they came out and hardware wise it's been fine.
In hte last month or so I notice that I have a noise "Dink" when I use my phone. This is either thru history button it dinks to redial some one that earlier called me it dinks... any ideas this can drive me crazy... I checked all of my settings and cannot find a setting or reason why it does this.
Thanks

I have also been plagued by a mysterious 'dink' sound. I haven't taken the time to properly nail down the cause but if you change your devices' sound profile you may find that the 'dink' will stop....
It hasn't bothered me enough to concentrate on but I would be interested in learning the root cause.
---- oh, it may also be related to whether a bluetooth headset is 'engaged' or not.
Cheers
Imm-o
I am in the same boat. Mine just started about a week ago. The "dink" occurs for me when I hit talk (hard key) when calling someone and when ending a call with the end hard key. It also happens when I use the end hard key to go back to the today screen. I noticed previously (before the "dink" appeared)that there was a subtle noise (quiet beep) when performing these functions, and now it seems to be exaggerated into the "dink" noise. Also, recently my phone started going to standby when I would connect to a call. This started at the same time as the "dink" noise. Strangely, now the phone does not go to standby anymore, but still has that aweful noise. It is slightly irritating.
I have recently upgraded S2U2, S2P, added UI Tweak & Opera Mini. I'm not sure if it really has anything to do with those programs, but thought I would mention it.
I haven't changed any things setting or uploaded any programs. What is strange I went thru all my settings and listened for the same sound and it is not on the list at all. So its a self generated sound. Irritating at the best. So whom on this forums can think of a fix? I know its a Sprint plot to take over our phones..... hehehehehehe

Likewise, pisses me off too. I press buttons by mistake and my phone keeps making the same noise...but it kind of warns me that i hit something when I didnt plan to...still annoying
I think immorion is right. I had it too. Turned off bluetooth for a while, no more 'dink'.
I noticed that upon the vibration being triggered on really short spurts (for example when typing) that occasionally a clicking noise is generated. This isn't from the speaker, it's definately a mechanical noise.
For reference, My EVO is less then 24 hours old.
Anyone else experience this?
Thanks
I haven't heard any clicking and I've had mine for a week. I just tested it with typing and I don't hear any mechanical noise. Perhaps yours is defective?
The vibration on this phone is 100% more refined than the Hero's (in my opinion, lol). I turned off haptic feedback everywhere on my Hero because it was obnoxious and obtrusive. The haptic on the Evo seems smooth and intuitive. I prefer to use it on anything with the option.
I had it on a replacement vogue I got, it went away after awhile.
Take it into sprint and see if you can replace it.
My Nexus One use to do that. Did it from day one I had it since release date and still works fine.
I happened to notice this today myself but the noise eventually went away. I hope it doesn't become a big issue.
Yeah, I don't think it's necessarily a defect. Just when it gets triggered for such a short time-span that sometimes happens. Not that first phone I've noticed it on.

I was watching a podcast of the 404(cnet) and one of the hosts had something go wrong with his vibration on his evo....??
He said it will still vibrate like when calls came in, but for like the haptic feedback it didn't work.(yes he menitoned he had checked all the settings that were relative)
Dunno if this means anything to you but it could be more than a fluke problem. You never know...
I'm having this exact same problem on a nexus one...

After about two and a half weeks of ownership I started getting the click. It happens when the vibration is very short, maybe less than 1 second.
It isn't really obnoxious to me, but it is enough of a click that I notice it now.
Haven't noticed this ... yet ...

lol I thought I was the only one.
Curious, how loud? Would the key tone, god forbid that even be on, cover it up? Medium volume? (Is that loud??? I don't use the key tones ... )
Mine does the same thing. Clicks every other input. At the home screen I can press the back button over and over and every other time is clicks.. doesn't sound healthy. Its getting annoying when texting because every other letter feels differnt making some letters feel like there is no vibration....
THe more it does it, it's starting to feel like a rattle, like something is loose....
I used to have that w/ my first evo. Then i bought a second off the market and it didnt have the vibration problem. so i returned the first...
I have this issue, will sprint do an exchange because of this? I can replicateit by holding the backspace key on swype, its a loud annoying clicking
Edit: I upgraded to the new swype and thenoise is gone
I have this same clicking sound, doesn't seem to bother me though!
yup, mine will occasionally do it too. It almost sounds like there is slack in there and whenever it starts up it slaps against something. Mine doesn't seem to be getting worse so I'm not to worried about it but I definitely notice it when it does happen.

Sounds about right to me it don't happen all the time so I just assumed it worked similar to a ps3 controller? Prob not but I have noticed but not been bothered by this
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Sometimes when i press the screen to select something(ie. opening an app), a noticeable popping sound is heard. It happens a few times a day but it sometimes gets annoying.
What is the cause of this, i know it's not the camera focusing element.
You sure that it isn't just the touch sounds?

Yeah its not the touch sounds, its pretty faint and happens maybe 3/10 times.
This happens to me too. Im convinced that theres something wrong with my speaker because the sound happens only when i click on something that is supposed to make a sound (except its doesnt because its on silent). It also happens right before an audio file is played

I'm afraid it's a speaker problem and not some kind of bug.
Even when the phone is on silent I hear the popping, very very annoying.
Its a hardware issue. I had it on my first n4 that I had RMA because of the screen.
My replacement device does not suffer from the issue.

Yep, same here - and I just replied to two other threads that sound like the same issue. One person said it happened after upgrading to 4.2.2. I think (and hope) this is a software issue. I just got my new Nexus 4 today, so I hope it's not a hardware issue.
This is happening to me. I thought I was going crazy lol.
Hey Guys,
Thanks for this forum first of all, its awesome. I joined especially for this issue because it seems lots of people have this problem. I noticed this problem when i got my phone yesterday. I have noticed that even when the phone is on silent, the speaker just turns on even though its not suppose to since touch sounds should be off. You can hear this by listening carefully to the speaker.
I got solved of the problem doing the following:
1. Go to settings.
2. Device -> Sound
3. Untick "Touch Sounds" option.
4. No more popping sound problem , although you dont have touch sounds.
It seems that even if you put your phone on silent thetouch sounds are active but dont produce sounds and keeps the speaker on when you press buttons. Might be software problem.
I hope this is helpful

I don't think that solves it. On mine, this occasional click happens with any sound (for example, go into settings for messaging to select an alert sound. If a sound has not been played for a while, the first sound you try will have the soft "click" right before it. Subsequent sounds will generally not have it. So I do not think it is related to only the touch sounds.
I'd guess that the reason it only happens when a sounds has not played "for a while" is that the sound hardware is being turned on right before the sound occurs.

Ohh ok, I guess I had another problem. My problem was that I would hear a soft pop even on silent when hitting buttons.
But after you mentioned the messing alert and hardware being turned on. I noticed it now. I think you might be right, they might be related to the sound hardware being turned on
My nexus 4 doesn't have buzzing sound when I'm on call.
But I do notice a very tiny buzzing sound when I try to use the phone. By what I mean using the phone, I mean, just click on home screen, back
button, or even scroll down the notification bar, or click away the gmail/fb notification. Basically, it's random ( not happen every time) when I click on
the screen.
Anyone have the same issue like I'm having? Don't really feel like RMA, but can get a bit annoying sometime.
Again, buzzing sound is very very short and small. come out randomly only when I'm touching the screen. Not every time I touch, it will get buzzing
sound. but it will come out eventually while I'm clicking.
Bump
I presume you mean that this buzz is audible when the phone is in your hand, and not when the phone is up to your ear? The Nexus 4 has an issue that appears to be by design, meaning that sometimes you'll get some interference (grounding issue). However, the buzz that you speak of might be worth an RMA. Luckily you don't have to let go of your current device until the new device has arrived, so you won't have any downtime (and you can backup/restore through adb or using a backup app).

Correct. The buzz sound is when the phone is in my hand, and is not up to my ear.
I just asked for a replacement. I will report back soon if the new phone still have the same problem.
