New GPS mobile all in one - P3600 General

Hey
Saw this in one of the threads and I was like... damn thats sexy.
http://www.etencorp.com/products/Communication/X500.php
Anyone here who owns this baby? Im in the UK and Id like to get my hands on one and I dont know how.
Sup?

I don't see how this has anything to do with the Trinity. There are quiet a few PPCs that have GPS built in. The Eten is not the first and certainly not the last to have that feature. Either way it pales in comparison to the Trinity as it doesn't have 3G or HSDPA.

How does the wizard compare to Xda EXEC ?

Hi all,
I have an XDA exec, and am looking to change it for a Wizard. How much difference (if any) is there in the speed of these devices, as I understand the Wizard doesn't use an Intel processor it uses Texas Instruments.
Does this mean having to get different binaries ? or do ARM ones still work ?
How do these devices compare... any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers
Well i had an exec and made the exact same decision as you are thinking of making. I have no regrets believe me. First and foremost the phone part works brilliantly, secondly it seems faster to me than the exec, you dont look like a tit when you answer it and it doesnt weigh a ton.
Things i miss:-
VGA Screen
3g Data speed
Nicer keyboard
Things i dont miss:-
Useless phone
Slow speed
Weighty
Large and hard to use
Any more questions just ask

Phew, glad it's working out for you Chris!
I switched too...
I had an exec and now I HAVE A WIZARD... I will never look back. I miss the VGA screen but that's about it.
Cyb
Have both but going to sell my exec.
Again will only miss the beautiful VGA screen.
Would O2 do a straight swap for the wizard (xda mini) or did you guys buy and sell yours privately ?
EDIT: Only within the first 14 days
Anyone wanna swap a XDA exec, bought in october 2005 for a xda mini (wizard) in black.
PM me if interested
Thanks for the responses gents, seems like a unanimous decision all round to me
Just to uphold the concensus ...
I got the Exec first , then an MDA Vario
I must say I agree with all that is said so far , the only downside is the size of the screen and the lack of 3G (no big deal IMO ) But in it's (the vario's) favour , it is a much better PHONE than the Exec , and I do need my device to be able to function as a phone as well as making the tea etc.
I am a bit gutted , as I loved the Exec , and feel sad that the Vario has rendered it almost obsolete (for my needs , at least)
Tried to sell the Exec on Ebay , but had a bit of trouble - and to be honest I was quite pleased , as I don't REALLY want to sell it :? , but can't really justify keeping it either !
I could have written that post!
I have the O2 mini and Exec. Why? Well I got the Exec through my work when upgrading and I got the mini for myself as it looked agreat bit of kit. Have had both for about three weeks.
Guess what is sitting there not getting used - the Exec!!! Sure it has a great screen and the keyboard is a flashback to the Psion 5 but for sheer convenience it has to the the mini - excellent (not fantastic a an actual phone but a great all rounder).
It will be inetresting what will be out this time next year!
Anyone want an Exec?
I have to agree with everything above. I had an Universal for about 6 weeks and loved it, however, I did find it totally unpractical as an everyday phone and ended up diverting calls to an old Nokia, which sort of defeated the object!! I then saw a K-Jam in PC World and it was love at first sight Got a fantastic deal from T-Mob (Vario) and have never looked back. I think the Universal is a great bit of kit but the Wizard does it for me every time

Future HTC Phones

Hi everyone,
I've had Orange M3100 (Hermes) phone for about a year now and loved it to bits (helped by the fact this site is a god send for customising!). However - my contract is coming to an end and I'm considering upgrading. It seems the only upgrade route I can really see is to a Kaiser. Thats not so much as an upgrade as just the same phone with a few new features. I've already upgraded my M3100 to WM6, I'm not that bothered in GPS that the Kaiser has, and the spec of the Kaiser is almost indentical to the Hermes.
So my question is - is there anything else in the pipeline from HTC that would be worth waiting for. I'd rather wait 3 or 4 months for a newer phone to come out if there was one available.
Anyone any idea....?
good question, im in pretty much the same preticament. only thing ive found really is the newer version of the touch, with the faster cpu +wifi etc, or maybe the touch cruise, but neither have hardware keyboard. not sure if i could cope without my keyboard
You could take a look at http://www.pdadb.net/ for some info on what's coming soon.
The Cruise looks nice, kinda like a keyboardless kaiser
Yeah - my partner has just got a HTC Touch and it looks nice but I couldn't do without the keyb. That counts out the Touch Cruise as well.
Guess I'll hold onto my M3100 and see what turns up next year

You need to work out what you want on your new device? I have considered the Polaris as the keyboard on the Kaiser looks, um, fragile...
Good Luck

Is Hermes better than Artemis (XDA Orbit)?

I've had my Hermes for about 5 months now, and I do love it but it seems XDA Orbits (HTC Artemis) have come down in price so I'm tempted to sell the Hermes and get one of these instead.
Are they better than the Hermes? I know they don't have QWERTY, but they do have a GPS which is a handy gadget to have I guess. Do they offer anything else the Hermes doesn't have?
Any replies would be great!
hope this helps

battery is much worse than the one in hermes. actually as far as i am concerned they don't make such 'long life on batteries' PDA's anymore - and i say this when GPS is off because with GPS Artemis dies in a moment :] for me most important thing is 'how long my device can live without charging' that's why i don't have Kaiser for example
I've changed my mind, seems the Hermes is better Spec'd other than GPS and has the larger battery!
Maybe I'll wait until something else comes about! Thanks.
good to hear your sticking with the hermes
just wanted to say an external gps reciever with a hermes would run better than the orbit
(channels, battery etc)
so you made the right choice
I caved in and sold the Hermes in the end (£105), and I bought the Artemis (Orbit £120) off ebay.
I was just annoyed at the little scratch on the screen and couldn't be bothered to change the screen/digitizer. Just hoping the screen on my new phone isn't scratched or I'll be back in the same place again! Although I've seen Orbit screens for £18 so it's not too bad even if I do have to swap.
Anyway goodbye people, nice owning the Hermes but time to move on!

Windows Mobile 6.1 on T-Mobile G1

Hi all,
I've a really silly question: Is it possible to install Windows Mobile on T-Mobile G1 Phone?
Kind regards,
Heinz Kohls
Before some of the "think they are better then the world" people come on here and post to you in a rude manner, search. Its your friend and will answer most questions you have about the phone, if by chance you dont find your answer, then its ok to post asking about it.
While I see a lot of people on these boards helping people, I also see people that forget they were once an idiot as well.. its not the amount of posts you have, its not really even what you do for the community.. its equally important how you choose to interact with other, equal members.
So again, use the search feature on the forums. You will find what you seek.
Thanks, but I am not worked up over anything. No need to relax, I simply posted to him in a civil manner and told him to search for it, its best to point out how to do something for yourself, then to have the info given to you. In the future if he wants/needs more info he now knows how to find it.
I see your in NC, I am assuming thats Wlimington NC? I am in Raleigh myself.
I don't get it...
Why is it of such interest to put WinMo on the G1 in the first place?
Why not just get a Wing or Fuze or something? The G1 is unique because of Android. If it came with WinMo 6.1 do you think that it would sell as well as the other phones out there that do? I would honestly be more interested in putting Android on my Wing then WinMo on my G1 and I don't even know Linux! But that's just me.
Actually, I'd say the equivalent to the G1 with WinMo would be the HTC Touch Pro. For the G2, it'd be the Touch Diamond.
The interest is in the hardware. The G1 is 3G compatible and has built-in GPS (kinda) To top it off, it's CHEAP (but that price is from the Google subsidy.)
I haven't kept up with what tmo is offering lately, but when it was released, the G1 was the only tmo phone that had those, and it's been a wish for the diehard WM fans to have it on the G1 since it was released.
I'd say "don't worry." There will be spiffier, new, WM phones that have what you need.

Good points, T-Mobile's selection hasn't been that great recently. Hopefully they will get the Touch Pro2.
P.S. The G1 has full GPS, don't know what you mean by "kinda".
Well it might never be made to run natively but this looks promising:-
http://www.androidauthority.com/ind...s-ce-and-android-on-a-phone-at-the-same-time/
and some info from the actual developers:-
http://www.vmware.com/technology/mobile/
Looks like its going to be offered to handset manufacturers only but im sure it won't be long til someone "acquires" a copy from somewhere!
OSX on G1 anyone? lol

its quite simple why, (for me it is)
i would not want to run only windows mobile on my g1, but android simultaniously with wm.
why cause i travel allot, i need a good gps device with no data fees. like a dedicated gps software but built in to my phone, so i do not need to take all the hardware with me everry time i go away.
i am from belgium and its quite expensive for mobile internet over here.
we dont even have an unlimited data plan for fixed internet, so forget mobile.
the roaming charges are also quite expensive, i would love a good gps software for the g1.
for me now this is the main reason why would do this.
if you have an alternatif, that would be good for me.

I said "kinda" because I've been let down in a pinch more than once by the insane warmup time for the G1's GPS. I never had trouble with an external, bluetooth GPS receiver on a Dash, for example.

f posts, should I be worried about buying a Jade?

Hi all,
I've been posting in a couple of other furms about a phone for my GF (I'm currently running a touch HD, - previously a TP, a dimaond, and an Orbit)
I've pretty much settled on the touch 3G for her, but the lack of posts about this phone worries me a little. Is it not a popular phone? it seems to do everything you could ask of a phone (touchscreen, built in GPS, camera) and she likes the size etc.
why does it not seem so popular?
thanks
Hi
I think that the problem of the jade is the small dimension, that in this moment the people don't like.
The people like a "big" dimension (Hd and iphone stile).
It is the best PDA phone I have ever had. (With a new LITE ROM )
I think that it is not so popular because people who would like it bought Diamond or another nice PDA phone just a few months ago. They do not need the new one, especially when it has the same "power" .
I upgraded from Artemis, so the change was worth for me.
I think Jade is mid-entry PDA and it have nothing special e.g. big sceen, good camera, hi quality sound
So people may pick the cheaper one or the rich feature one.
But I really love my Jade, it very suit to me.
I love my Jade too
I have no regret in buying this phone, and after almost 3 months of owning one, still busy customizing my Jade.
I thing that there are not many posts, because in PPC forums discuss usually people whose understand to PocketPCs. Those people usually buy something better than Jade. Touch 3G is really mainstream. It's for everyone.
And maybe it's so good that it hasn't so many problems which than couldn't be discused on forums
I have one for about 3 weeks and I'm really satisfied with it. For it's price it's really good (I'm student so I haven't money on something like Touch HD)
It's simple: The HTC Touch 3G is _not_ being sold in the USA.

Just buy it for her. She'll love it. This is the most VFM pda phone on the market... and the most cute looking.
I'm also having one and I'm absolutely happy with it. What was attracting me was the small size, the design but still having all the nice features...
well, it's here!!
I will spend sometime setting it up for her and installing all the apps I put on the Orbit for her, it actually looks pretty good. Small and need with a decent screen so hopefully she'll love it.
Trying to find a pink skin for it at the mo. Skinit.com have great features and allow you to design your own skin, but they don't support the touch 3G.
Might have to stick with a silicone case for her, not quite as nice but should do the trick.

There are at least 2 pink skins...

Congratulations on making the right decision! Please tell here to enjoy it! It's a great phone! Cheers!
sorry, when I said Skin, I meant a case...
a bit like www.skinit.com, but they don't do the 3G model
I think the main drawback of touch 3G when compared with touch HD is HD has a built-in G sensor, this makes HD can compete with iPhone.

I am not sure, WinMo is something that doesn't appeal to everyone, most people prefer the likes of Nokia or the iPhone. MinMo is more attractive for geeks/people that need office on the move, and a lot of that audience will be attracted by the more powerful larger devices.
For me however I don't want to be carrying around a brick, the 3G is small, unobtrusive and does as much as I need as any WinMo device does.
