I've had my Hermes for about 5 months now, and I do love it but it seems XDA Orbits (HTC Artemis) have come down in price so I'm tempted to sell the Hermes and get one of these instead.
Are they better than the Hermes? I know they don't have QWERTY, but they do have a GPS which is a handy gadget to have I guess. Do they offer anything else the Hermes doesn't have?
Any replies would be great!
hope this helps

battery is much worse than the one in hermes. actually as far as i am concerned they don't make such 'long life on batteries' PDA's anymore - and i say this when GPS is off because with GPS Artemis dies in a moment :] for me most important thing is 'how long my device can live without charging' that's why i don't have Kaiser for example
I've changed my mind, seems the Hermes is better Spec'd other than GPS and has the larger battery!
Maybe I'll wait until something else comes about! Thanks.
good to hear your sticking with the hermes
just wanted to say an external gps reciever with a hermes would run better than the orbit
(channels, battery etc)
so you made the right choice
I caved in and sold the Hermes in the end (£105), and I bought the Artemis (Orbit £120) off ebay.
I was just annoyed at the little scratch on the screen and couldn't be bothered to change the screen/digitizer. Just hoping the screen on my new phone isn't scratched or I'll be back in the same place again! Although I've seen Orbit screens for £18 so it's not too bad even if I do have to swap.
Anyway goodbye people, nice owning the Hermes but time to move on!

Anybody ahve any info on the Kaiser. Basically a thinner Hermes with GPS as I understand it. It was announced at CES but can't find many details anywhere.
Here you go m8..
interesting...sorta. i looked at the specs and ok so it's got onboard gps enabled and 256MB ROM (Hermes has 128). otherwise it's the same specs as the Hermes.... not enough for me to fork out another $700 to "upgrade".
In the above link the picture shows the slide keyboard open with the screen slightly tilted up. Is it really so?? or maybe just an optical illusion

Htc Kaiser
Hi, three day ago I saw this new Htc tytn- Kaiser and communicate to our local pda-forum called Mobisux from Ljubljana (capital of Slovenija)very open-minded forum. I was suprised that all expert start asking me: what do you mean with this link - who is behind, I put link http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=733, . I have feeling that I do somethig wrong, than I ask moderator, why my post disappear - he don t answer me? Is this page(pdab.net) fake or what?
Best regards,
Derek
I hope this HTC P4550 (HTC Kaiser) is for real! It will be my replacement for the HTC Hermes. The GPS and the extra memory is a must for me
This one is real, altho the picture is not of the real device, it is picture designed on computer, more like concept art.
My opinion is that it is not worth of upgrade from hermes to kaiser. I am waiting for a hermes/kaiser form factor device with 3D hardware accelerator
Added HSUPA..
Not sure how important this is.. From what gather they probably could add this to our Hermes since it is just a protocol change..
Is it even used anywhere yet?
Also boosted the Camera up a bit..
Having something thinner wouldn't be bad but I won't be changing anytime soon..
From what I can see
Kaiser = Hermes + WM6 + 2x memory + GPS - a liitle bit of size.
In other words practically the perfect device, what else could you want other than a battery that never runs out!!
However, I won't be upgrading, but that's becasue I've only just got my Hermes on an 18 month contract with T-Mobile and I can't justify 5-700GBP for the extra bits of suff. I'm not too upset though; I was one of the first with the Universal (first WM5 device) and I found that having WM5 at the time to be a real pain as nothing properly worked with it. Plus when I look at all the early problems on the early Hermes (screen misalignment) and my own experience, I'm already on my second Hermes (the first HTC device I've ever had a problem with), I do wonder if quality is being sacrificed in place of speed to market, so I console my self that waiting a while for the problems to be ironed out is the best thing to do.
It's also USB 2.0 - hmmm.. USB2, GPS, 256mb, better cam... I think me wants!!!

Hi, everybody I am very happy, that I can read something about future pda - Kaiser, becouse in my country our administrator(moderator - I don¨t wanna name it) delete some post about it. And the guys(expert) who translate in Slovenian language whole procedure from this XDA-DEVELOPERS FORUM ask me WHY I make a questions about htc Kaiser and if I am agent for htc. You Slovenian guys ask here :WHY, WHO is behind? this people will answer you, perhaps.
Best regards,
Derek
OK, it's not strictly Hermes related and so shouldn't necessarily be in this forum, but was the closest I could think of
Like many here I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Kaiser to replace my aging but trusty Hermes. It seems to fit the bill perfectly but that could be because it's the only device that has everything I want. Or is it? Are there other devices on the way that I don't know about with the following?
GPS
3G
Wifi
qwerty keyboard
wm6
Lee.
Scratch WM6 from the list then Nokia's E90 has the rest and some more!

Yes, but the HTC Haiser (HTC P4550) don't have infra-red connection. It is its only "defect".

Its about time they kill the IR... it doesnt have much use these days anyway, especially since HTC havent made them very powerful lately... but thats my opinion
google for the Imate ultimate 7150. No GPS, but the 3.5" VGA screen & 18mm thickness might make up for that.
I looked at the Ultimate 7150 but decided that it's too wide for me - I wanted something smaller than my old Motorola A925 in every dimension!
A colleague at work is deciding between the Ultimate 8150 and Kaiser - The Kaiser won out today and now he's just waiting for it to become available.
It was the keyboard that swayed him in the end.
Cheers, Oggy.

Hi everyone,
I've had Orange M3100 (Hermes) phone for about a year now and loved it to bits (helped by the fact this site is a god send for customising!). However - my contract is coming to an end and I'm considering upgrading. It seems the only upgrade route I can really see is to a Kaiser. Thats not so much as an upgrade as just the same phone with a few new features. I've already upgraded my M3100 to WM6, I'm not that bothered in GPS that the Kaiser has, and the spec of the Kaiser is almost indentical to the Hermes.
So my question is - is there anything else in the pipeline from HTC that would be worth waiting for. I'd rather wait 3 or 4 months for a newer phone to come out if there was one available.
Anyone any idea....?
good question, im in pretty much the same preticament. only thing ive found really is the newer version of the touch, with the faster cpu +wifi etc, or maybe the touch cruise, but neither have hardware keyboard. not sure if i could cope without my keyboard
You could take a look at http://www.pdadb.net/ for some info on what's coming soon.
The Cruise looks nice, kinda like a keyboardless kaiser
Yeah - my partner has just got a HTC Touch and it looks nice but I couldn't do without the keyb. That counts out the Touch Cruise as well.
Guess I'll hold onto my M3100 and see what turns up next year

You need to work out what you want on your new device? I have considered the Polaris as the keyboard on the Kaiser looks, um, fragile...
Good Luck
Elwyn
I like my Kaiser but its a brick as far as size/weight.
Can someone who has used both tell me how they compare as far as speed, functionality, etc.?
What's the consensus on whether the Nike is a good device.
So you think the Kaiser is a brick! You want to try the Universal, now thats a brick!!!!
I like my Niki. It's small so doesn't trash my trouser or shirt pockets and it's functional (although I do miss not having a keyboard). If you are looking for a compact device this is a good one to go for, having said that, I'd probably wait for the Diamond 2
I have had windows mobiles since they first came out, through the original SPV, XDA, Universal and Vario II and others.
I got my nike as an upgrade from my vario II and I would give my left nut to go back.
It's crap - avoid like the plague.
Cheers,
Smiffy.
I really do like my Uni but it is just too big to use as a phone. At present I carry use the Uni purely as an organiser. Can any one recommend a phone that has the following.
Keyboard
2.8" screen or larger.
Windows Mobile OS (but willing to consider others)
Smaller than Universal
The difficult bit is it must have IRDA. So this seems to rules out all the new phones. Any suggestions would be great.

If $ is not a problem: HTC Rhodium
There isn´t really a "Replacement", Universal is considered a piece of art on Mobile World
For having another reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443421&page=3
Thanks for the quick replies guys.
The HTC TyTn (Hermes) would be perfect but they are very difficult to find in the UK. So may need to buy one from the USA.
HTC Rhodium unfortunately has no IRDA.
Totally agree that the universal is one of the best devices ever made. It replaced my aging Psion 5MX which in its day was the best organiser with a fantastic keyboard. It seems strange that such well loved devices are not replaced with newer versions. It has taken 10 years for a serious replacement for the Psion to be made but it costs £500.
Search over ebay.co.uk, theres a lot SPV M3100 devices
I have had a look on pdadb.net and notice that there was a HTC released in the USA by Verizon called the XV6800. It seems to be the same as a Hermes but with built in GPS. Doeas anyone know if this was ever realesed in the UK.

Only the Hermes 100 (i-mate JASJAM, Orange SPV M3100, Cingular 8525). The display on the Hermes 200 (TyTN) is garbage - it's a transmissive display and it turns completely black in sunlight. Hermes 100 had a high quality transflective screen.
