DUN from ipaq - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

General question. Does anyone know if you can connect any other PDA to the TYTN via bluetooth and use the TYTN as a dial up modem?
-Sorry if this is a repeat, I searched for hours and came up with nothin.

Good question. Considering the DUM program can work as a modem over bluetooth, and other PDAs can use bluetooth modems, I think it should be possible.

Probably yes if you can use the Bluetooth DUN profile to connect your PDA to the Tytn.
but what the heck for? isn't your tytn a pda?

I use my 4750 in my car for GPS because of it's nice big screen. It would be nice if on long trips I could have it syncing every few minutes or so.
I'm not having any luck with the modem application on the TYTN, I've been able to get the connection established but when it tries to dial it disconnects.

Nice article!

Networking via bluetooth? possible?

I just noticed my bluetooth adaptor supports some kind of LAN thing.. so it got me wondering..
Would I be able to use the bluetooth connection on my xda2 to share the internet connection without going through activesync?
Would I also be able to access shared folders on the LAN?
ive been wanting to do this as well
its gotta be possible , but i think theres a problem with the bt stack ?
would be nice to sit in my yard and browse the web tho, without forking out twice for internet use
I've got it working through activesync - but activesync has the annoying habit of disconnecting every now and then just for the hell of it.. especially when transferring a lot of data...
Would also be cool to be able to stream movies/music from my network to the pda..
here you are some applicable resources

Can we setup a Bluetooth Internet Access Thread for this?
Yeah - Half of the forum is asking the same question - There's a dozen different approaches everyone's trying - But I'm not having much luck. I can do it all fine on an iPAQ but the iMate / XDA II is being a cow!
That's WITH or WITHOUT the Widcomm stack.
ADMINS! Any chance we can setup a thread for this?
THanks!

How to install BluetoothGPS
I have downloaded the BluetoothGPS.zip file - does anyone have any instructions on how to install
Cheers

the zip file contains a cab file that you need to copy over to your XDAII. Once you have done that , double click on it to run it. Simple as that.

Looks link a great headset, and a great add on to the JJ if it worked.
Hope you get it working, have you tried putting the Nokia in discovery mode and then trying to initially pair it from the JJ? Does it give an error?

As a matter of interest does it work with other phones (just in case your unit is faulty)
I think it should work
here is the FAQ :
2. What profiles does the Nokia Wireless Image Headset HS-13W support?
The Nokia Wireless Image Headset supports Bluetooth 1.1 specification and GAP, OPP, SPP, HFP and FTP profiles.
3. Does the Nokia Wireless Headset HS-13W work with other manufacturers' phones?
The Nokia Wireless Headset HS-13W supports the Bluetooth 1.1 specification and the headset 1.0 (HFP) profile. Check your phone's compatibility with these specifications and profiles with your phone manufacturer.
try after resetting the device

try to find someone with XDA2 or Magician and test your headset with their phones.
Optionally, you can visit some shop and test it there.

BLUE TOOTH EAR BUD FOR UNIVERSAL AND LAPTOP FOR SKYPE
Sorry I don't have answers, only questions. I use Skype a lot on my laptops. I want to buy a Universal and a Blue Tooth ear bud that will allow me to use Skype through both my laptop blue tooth and also through the Univeral??? Surely there is one available. I tried the Motorola 8??? newest model and I could not make it work. Calling Motorola they said there newest bud would not support SKYPE!!!!!
Seems to me I am "missing" something here???
What earbud would do this plus solve the problem with the Universal where you can't see who is calling unless it is open??
Thanks in advance

HS13W Connection
Hi Guys,
HS13W can only be connected to HandsFree profile able device, not HeadSet able ones (as most of PDA are).
So you can try install the widcomm stack, but verify it supports HFP before.
Moreover, I think it will replace the windows stack and you will not be able to switch again.

Widcomm stack
In fact, I have an iPaq and found the widcomm stack as a software to use their BlueTooth stereo headphone.
I don't know if you can use it or not, but here is the link:

If you can not use it, maybe you can ask your device customer support for help.

Bluetooth Dial Up Networking

Who can help me with the following:
When I pair my Qtek 9000 to my Bluetooth enabled notebook, I want to use the Qtek 9000 as Bluetooth dialup modem.
The problem is that when I have the notebook check the available services on the Qtek, the only available service there is "Bluetooth ActiveSync Service". So unfortunately no "DUN" of "Dial Up Networking".
I tried the same with my Nokia N93 and that one actually shows a few more services than the Qtek, including DUN. A Bluetooth modem then was added to my modem list (on COM4) and the entire thing works perfectly using the Nokia.
But... I want my Universal/Qtek 9000 to be the Bluetooth modem.
How can I perform doing this? I also tried the "Wireless Modem" app as provided in Crossbow (using the 2.00.04 PV PRO), but selecting Bluetooth en pressin "Start" doesn't do anything.
Note that I am using Windows Vista and that the Bluetooth interface is the Microsoft one, as installed by default (which works with the N93).
Thanks!!
what rom are you using?
WM6 Crossbow PDAVIET 2.00.04 PV PRO.
well my Helmi UNI AKU3.5 doesn't include a DUN profile and i'm 99% sure if that one didnt your slightly newer one won't either..
If you have a flick back through the forums theres a post about it.. saying using internet connection sharing on the pda instead .. I couldn't get it to work personally and gave up. I'm currently using mine as a usb modem instead.
Sorry for the bad news dude :-(
Ok.... I'll see what I can do to get it working.
Isn't there just a workaround to add the DUN profile in some way?

i'm fairly sure there isnt, I think its in the rom itself .. or in the blue tooth stack or something incredibly complicated.. enough for the rom builds on here not to bother touching anyway

please help an idiot.....

There was a reg hack for this, you will need to search the early threads on this subject. I'm sure I have this at home (am at work at the mo) will check later.
Mav
PS. the reg hack just opened the BT channel for sound.

BT DUN

Is there a way to enable BT DUN on the Mogul? I tried the WM6_DUN hack posted in the other forum but it didn't work. Did Sprint strip it completely from the OS?

Bluetooth DUN has been replaced with Internet Sharing. You havent seen easy teathering until you have used Internet sharing...it is a breeze.
Pair the Mogul to your laptop via Bluetooth. (this varies based on which BT stack you are using, MS, WC, Toshiba, etc) The software you use should support PAN (Personal Area Network) Once paired, you enable Internet Sharing on the Mogul and then connect the laptop to the Mogul as a BT Network Access Point and you are done.
I have tethered both my laptop and my HTC Tytn to the Mogul. Works great.
Brad
Thanks. I already got ICS to work with my laptop that's using BlueSoleil. I'm trying to connect my Nokia 770. It only supports DUN that I know of.
Internet Connection Sharing
Hi,
I read Brad's post on connecting your Tytn to Mogul.
I have Telus version of Mogul, they do not have internet sharing on device.
I did try PDAnet connecting to P3600 and the Mogul could not see a serial port profile on P3600.
My goal is to connect a HTC X7501 to HTC P4000. I have had no success.
Since I need to buy X7501 to test, I have tried using the HTC 3600.
If the device would have internet sharing vs wModem, would that increase my chances of using the P4000 as modem for HTC X7501 Advantage.
If Brad sees this thread, would appreciate a reply.
Thank You
Dave

See this thread for a solution:
WM5 DUN Bluetooth N800
http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4211
Search for "tomtom" in the Hermes forum, there is a WM6 CAB file that enables DUN on the Mogul, works like a charm with the 770 and N800.
