What is the average battery life most people are getting from their devices? The reason for asking I beleive that my battery life has reduced drastically, I'm averaging 36hours. I do not use it as a phone, the Wifi & bluetooth is switch off, the unit is used for push email only and I receive about 20 emails per day, very little WEB browsing.
I'm sure my battery life was a lot better when I took delivery of the unit.

Mmmmm.. well I'd consider 36 hours fantastic but then it sounds as if I use mine a lot more for wifi, surfing, phone etc. than you. Perhaps an hour to hour and a half per day and charge once per day but will usually have 40/50% charge left I did see a post from someone saying with reasonably heavy use they could only get 8hrs.

i use mine mostly for data.. in a 3G area i average about an 9.2% loss per hour.. in a edge area i am averaging about 1.7% loss per hour... these are all estimates since the battery meter only goes by 10's
I am fairly certain that the 3G is eating power. I get a full days work out of it with a lot of phone calls, push email, BT always on, and occasional WiFi usage. I am almost always in 3G, I very rarely lose it and only when at a clients far away.

3G is the problem. Consider switching to 3G via MortScript as described in another thread. Personally, I use the GPRS only setting for normal use. PushMail would consume a lot less energy with GPRS and the speed isn't such an issue for mails in my opinion. Whenever I'm willing to browse the net a bit more, I switch to 3G before doing so (takes ca. 15s via the script) and when done, I go back to the less battery eating and more reliable (for taking phone calls etc.) GSM only mode.
You will definately at least double the runtime of your Hermes. I can do 5 days (phone on at night, little use) by doing so.
Well I can confirm that 3G is the cause, as suggested I've switched to GSM and battery life is a lot better.
3rd charge i managed to get nearly 2 days, had a 4 hr gprs web session last night on minimum brightness and still had 30% battery this morning.
if the battery goes to 0% what happens? data loss or just turns off?

Other than any document/application open at time of shut down you should be ok, not like my old Clie that looses everything that's not screwed down on the storage card. In fact quite often I deliberately remove the battery for a while if I reckon it may help with a lock up (normally due to some rubbish downloaded freebie!!). All saved programmes to Device memory and card remain in tact.

Using my TYTN for email (check every 30 minutes), newsgroups (check every 30 minutes) and reading both every 2 hours.
Also using the phone for lots of browsing.
And i am also using my phone for making some phonecalls over the day (with and without bluetooth carkit), i get to use my phone for about 16 to 18 hours without need for a recharge.

if you add an email account to your tytn you get the option advanced at the end of the settings. if you click it you will get the option to send/receive at a standard timeperiod.
I use UMTS for email and web browsing continuosly for 2 hours and I'm down to 10% after a full night charge. It's pathetic.

i dont know about that.. everyone seems to be getting around the same battery life... i would bet that if i used mine on umts continously for 2 hours i would be close to the same drain, UMTS sucks alot of battery

that's true and umts sucks a lot of power. i am using mine on umts in tokyo and i can only get 10 to 12 hours. i use it mostly for push email (about 80 emails), an hour of browsing and some phone calls a day. i've ended up purchasing mugen's 3000mah one to get through the day without recharging.

I highly doubt it as I have two 8525 and both of them will be at 10% with 2 hours of continuous use.
Well I'm on my 2nd battery.First one was replaced under warranty as I was getting about 8hrs with very little usage.
I'm on my third charge with the new battery. The first & second charges have given me about 15hrs.
Agent said I should be getting 4hrs talk time and if the second battery is also [email protected] then they will replace the phone. So I'm monitoring until next week.

This may not apply to you (as you probably know it already!), but Windows Mobile does not shut down programmes when you click the x in top right corner. To ensure you are not unknowingly running lots of applications in the background you need to use a programme that really shuts applications down properly - e.g. Magicbutton or HTC X Button. This can save considerably on both battery power and performance.

just bought my X1i last week. One of the my reason to buy this phone, because some "people" said that the battery can last up to 4 days on regular use.
So I'm just curious about how long does your X1 battery last. Mine, it can barely last 2 days, most of the time, I have to charge it everyday, so I can use the phone for the next day.
Please post your answers below and also mention the rom you used at this moment. Just want to know, if there is any correlation between versions of rom used and battery life. I used stock generic UK R3A.
Also if anyone knows how to save your X1 battery, please also post it below...

i have touchx 10.2 and if i dont use internet just normal stuff it last 5 days... if i start using wifi/edge about 2 days...
I'm havin the same problem. Battery just lasts one day. I turn off the internet by turning off the data connection switch in com manager but still no dice. Is there a battery checker to see if u have a bad battery?

But since I did the Biotouch.exe trick, I'm able to run about 3-4 days with "normal" usage (most time online, permanent checking mails, etc).
Just search for the thread Biotuch.exe. It's about 3 pages back.
R3, 5 days in standby @ home, using it to call during about 10' per day. Otherwise @ work (phone 20 - 30' per day, and 15 - 20' surfing on the web by UMTS) 3 days then I charge it as I am at 20 percent.
Beware of the UMTS coverage, if the coverage is not excellent, you'll use your battery very quick (so if no 3G used, set is as GSM instead of Auto in Phone - Settings - Band).
Pay attention to the software you install, it can change from 3 days to a simple day if the software is not optimized (for example it's a nightmare with SPB Mobile Shell 3).

I don't know really. Take yesterday for example:
I unplugged it from the charger in 9:00 then after 5 calls, 30 mins of music playback, 15 mins of wi-fi and 15 mins of playing games the battery was dead in 15:00 . That's only 6 hours......
I don't care anymore though. I bought a second battery and I'm happy again .
My battery lasts about 5 or 6 hours, simply had to buy a second charger and keep at work. Would leave home around 5:30 a.m. fully charged. Bluetooth is always on from then to about maybe 8a.m. or 9a.m. Listeing to audio podcasts or audio books. Screen at full brightness, always have the 3G connection on. Couple hundred text msgs to go through, along with clicking on links as needed to go to the websites linked in them. And SkyFire to read the Wall Street Journal for maybe 30 mins.
X1am, ROM: 1.02.948.8 with a date of 09/17/08.
about 2 - 3 days depending on use (more calls on some days lowers battery alot)
My power Xperiences so far
Overall the power consumption and power mgmt of the Xperia is quite bad, having been an XDA user for years.
The power button puts the phone into standby, so some apps keep running and drain the battery, when you think it is not consuming. Eg GPS.
Last week my phone would drain within one day, even on standby. I checked for any running apps and I had Closed All, but drain continued a second day after full recharge.
The only way to get it back to some level of normaility was to do a Soft Reset. This must have stopped the culprit process which was draining power ???
When the power drains to its lowest level, it puts the phone into a virtual dead state. It requires some time charging before it even powers up again. This is not an elegant way to power manage.
Wow... judging from the answers here, it is very strange to see how the battery life can be very differ from one to another. One can only last for 5 to 6 hours, while others can last for up to 3 to 5 days.

Did you turn off the 3G network and let the phone work on gsm network only? 5 days with normal stuff is a blast...

I guess that maybe the cause, since the umts network around here is not so good... I'll check that later and let you know if it is the cause...

I guess it is because of if you used all your battery power, you will also drain the backup battery (you can check the backup battery status by using the apps "batty"), so it will take a while to charge the backup battery first before charging the main battery. This is only a guess...
What Backup Battery??? The thing that shows up in Batti is for phone with a backup battery I guess... but NOT for the X1. There is no such thing that can show up in Batti. On mine it shows just an empty bar.

why would i have it on when my operator doesnt even support 3g course it was off no data connection also... my battery goes down 10-20% a day when i just use it for music and some sms...
Mine lasts about ~6 hours talk time at 3G.
~3-4 Days when i use talk ~30 minutes / day.
Only lasted a few hours with the original Rom.
Flashed to Smabergs Touch X 10.0, battery lasted ~1 day, and then with 10.1 it got improved to 3-4 days.

My battery last from 9AM to uhm 3PM yes that's for 6 hours of use (I have SPB Mobile 3.0.1 running and WCX ROM Windows 6.5). RAM running from 60-95% of usage LOLOLOL but yeah I have my FB, Skype, Windows Media, MSN, etc. running and it runs SUPER slow at times that I have to take the batt out.
I'm gonna flash the ROM again to a battery friendly ROM if available (the way I'm using it right now is not very economy friendly).

Touch X is all that you want, and will ever need.
as above! this is making me crazy...
at most it is just moderate use. some calling some texting some opera mini-ing
and it is under GSM. Not 3G.
After 24 hours. I barely clock 20%.

Hey Leobox,
There could be a plenty of factors involved:
1. Constant use of GPRS to update weather.
2. Some SD cards use up the battery.
3. Make sure that your internet connection is not on generally
4. Finally, use BSB tweaks for power management.

I have problem with my battery life as well. Mine barely lasted a whole day. All I did was 150 sms and typing in Microsoft Word and nothing else. Brightness was set to automatic.
And yes it's truly disappointing especially coming from HTC Touch HD.

as mentioned in my previous post.. the battery of HD2 seems to be ok.. a fren who is a power user has it.. generally this is what he does:
Full charge in the morning
Day use:
Approx 90-100 mins of call
15-20 mins of browsin
30 odd mins of music play
150 odd daily messages
15-20 mins of push mail
from 100% at about 8AM in the morning to about 25% in the evening at about 11PM.
I think thats pretty good

why will it kill .. i do not surf.. it is just on.. and it is only GPRS .. no 3g
with regard to data connection. do we have to manually turn it off in the settings page or is there a way to make it turn itself off when its idle.
what ROM are you on?
I was originally on 1.48 ROM and had pretty bad battery drain problems too.
Most i got was about 1 day on average usage (couple calls and texts with browsing and slight GPS)
But i upgraded to 1.61 and i can honestly get 2-3 days now, no joke!
On hard usage about 1.5 days, but its still much better than before.
So if u want u can try upgrading to 1.61 and see how that works out for you
After struggling with the battery life for last 10 days I figured the real culprit to be the SD card. from day 1 I had 4GB SD card and the response was always slow while browsing the storage card or using Music and Photo tabs in SENSE.
I replaced the SD card yesterday night with original 2 GB card. I had 54 percent yesterday night and after 16 Hours I am still at 33 percent. (even with 25 mins call and some use of phone).
Seems the problem is resolved. Hope this helps to all who have battery problem.

You are correct- a data connection turned on but not exchanging data uses minimal power as it's simply part of the GSM/3G service. However, if it is on, then some programs can use the connection for active data transfer which will use some power.
If you stick with GSM, rather than 3G, the battery hit is even less. Most battery usage when 3G is on results from the hunting between protocols when the 3G signal level is poor, though a good 3G connection uses less power than a stable GSM connection.
yes been thinking about updating the ROM. im on the o2 1.43 rom.
I still dont get the data connection though. even if i manually turn it off, something turns it back on i pressume its Twitter or weather. but why does it not disconnect itself afterwards?
i also have a question about the battery: is it normal that the battery drains 2-3 % per 10 minutes while listening radio?? screen is off, no data connection! this makes me crazy..

I also have a Omina II, and whilst I appreciate it has a larger capacity battery and only 800mhz processor, I could listen to the fm radio for an hour and the battery would drop 1% Max. The omina does throttle down the processor for less demanding apps.
I had problem with G-Alarm. When in standby the HD2 use only 4-5mA in GSM/GPRS (no 3G) but when opening and closing G-Alarm, the HD2 was using in standby 80mA average.
I found that overnight it was discharging my battery around 40% (from 89% to 45% in 7hours). Then after disinstalling it I come back to normal discharge rate of around 4% overnight.
I think that G-Alarm and maybe some other softwares are not fully compatibles with the HD2 and after you open it (and close it with task manager, so not still open in background) there is a bug that let the HD2 not fully in standby, also if the screen stay off. In this situation the processor is still active and drain the battery faster. The only way to recover from this, is with softreset.
Perhaps apart from network usage / 3G / wifi / microSD etc. there are some programs developed for previous WM devices that are not 100% compatibles with HD2 and don't fully put on standby the device after you used it (also if closed with task manager) draining faster the battery.

I tried the 2.3 version. When I was testing it, when closing it, it was not dispaying on task manager also for me, but after that the battery was draining quicker during standby. After I disinstalled it, the draining of battery during standby comeback to normal (4-5mA).
I use battery log to check battery draining.
It's a very powerful smartphone folks, my battery barely lasts a day either. I have to charge my HD2 every 20 hours-or-so. Stop comparing the battery drain on this handset to an old phone you just used for texting and making calls! Every smartphone I've owned drained the battery within a day if I actually used it for more than calls and texting. If you turn the data connection off and turn the 3G to GSM, you will experience much longer battery life....but then you won't be using the phone for anything much will you?

Last time I checked, it went 13hrs until 31%.
I usually use it for around 90minutes continously reading or web browsing during my commute. There is also 4-5hrs (or more daily) during which I only get 1-2bars of receptions, so it drains battery faster. There was probably also a 30-40minute phone call using bluetooth.
I can go an 10-12 hour day with light use:
45 mins of phone and text (no bluetooth)
20 mins phone (bluetooth)
30 mins misc.
30 mins games.
20 texts.
Data on about 8 hours without Wifi and 4 on (N enabled)
1 hour browsing, emails etc.
30 mins with Microsoft Reader.
Probably a little more.
Also syncing a lot with calendars.
Not bad, but I feel like it could be better.

Adjust your PEAK TIMES for ActiveSync, that way your device isn't consistently trying to allocate resources to collect data such as emails.
Screen brightness, system volume, hibernating times, etc.
ALL OF THOSE are key factors in how quickly your battery will be drained. Anything involving the on-screen display is what will quickly deplete available battery life on a single charge. That may seem very "cliche" to say, but the fact is, this device has a 4.3-inch screen, so it's a power hog.
For today, it's been 17.5hrs since I unplugged and the phone has been mostly sitting except for a few occasional brief checks of the phone, 30minute email syncs, and a 15 minute phone call. It's at 40% battery after the 17.5hrs.
It did drop around 20% in the first 6hrs since the phone was in an area of horrible 0-1 bar reception. The rest of the time has been 2-3 bar reception.

If you need direct push in your life, then I suggest changing 3G to EDGE network.
Difference is quite noticeable.
It sucks,and if you want better battery life don't use it.I returned mine after 48hrs.
All the advice is great,but....
-If I have go from 3G to EDGE.
-Lower the brightness almost to the minimum.
-Set activesync up.....What is the point of having so much technology? if I can not use because the phone dies.

I end the day with about 60% battery life left with mild-medium usage. A few phone calls, some maps/gps, active sync every 4 hours, facebook every 2 hours, weather every 3 hours.

i went all day yesterday (my first day with it) so i used it alot, took it of the charger, at 7:30am, and plugged it in last night at 10:00 and it was at 39%. that was BEFORE i turned off 3g(i dont get 3g in my area) so this hd2 blows the iphone battery out of the water....IMHO

that thing lasted 3 days with moderate use. compared to that, 15 hour limit does suck, and there are times I don't want to use the phone to conserve the battery, which makes rage, but oh well. now I always carry an extra battery in my pocket, so that's a bit better. but that doesn't make it okay.
with the 3g off, wifi off, auto back light,running the energy rom apr 9. unplug on 9 am use about 100 sms and 10 minutes phone call with all the auto data off,just manual check weather and email twice still have 80% after 3pm.

I adjusted the the screen brightness to a comperable setting that a friend of mine has his set to on his iphone3gs I did not do anything to the 3g settings or anything like that. I set me email to sync every 4 hours. But my hotmail I just click send/receive and sync it myself. I play music all day on my phone. Check twitter internet facebooks while music is playing and a lot of texting over a hundred sent and recieved daily. Before I made a few tweeks it would kinda die quickly but now it appears to be a lot better.
My batter DOES NOT LAST FOR CRAP!!!!! I took it off charge at 8:13 and at 10:30 i checked my phone, it went from 100 percent to 81 percent. HOW DOES IT GO DOWN 19 percent in 2 hours when i didnt even USE the phone, i just hit the backlight to check the time, this battery is unacceptable everytime i check the phone the percent has dropped

Do you leave 3G turned on? Do you have your e-mail and/or weather checking themselves automatically?
The phone can certainly be doing things that consume the battery, even if you're not manually handling it at the time.
I don't understand why battery life seems to differ so much from phone to phone. My battery life is excellent and I use it a lot. I do have to charge it every night but I expect that from a smartphone. It always lasts me throughout the day with music, videos, calls, texts and web use on 3g. I couldn't be happier with the battery life of my phone.
PLEASE give me good tips how to save battery? BTW im using ENERGY's latest rom with cookie 1.7. i dont understand why i have to stop my email and turn off 3g when this phone is MEANT for these features. theres no point of a having an excellant phone when you cant use its features to its full potentiol without having it die within 10 hours( with moderate use)
Battery is weird
The other day i charged my hd2 fully then got on an airplane all connections were watch from paris with love which looks great on the phone landed after an hour and a half and my battery life was down to 15 percent i think i might have a bad battery when i am in the car i leave it on the charge and when i am in the hotels that i stay in it stays on the charge or plugged into my laptop and thoughts??

Opera---with tap vibration enabled
Messages
Active Sync
Word Mobile
Hotmail
I had:
Push E-Mail (hotmail) "As items arrive" (receiving emails approx every 5-10 mins).
Backlight Automatically adjusted on, with both battery and external power set at 40%.
LeoCpuSpeed app running at 998 MHz.
Constant changing signal strength from 1-4 bars and H to 3G to E and back to H(Inside the lobby of a building).
Weather, Twitter, Facebook and everything else to be updated automatically, each one being set to update asap.
BsB Tweaks settings in the pics below.
Apps Installed: see pic below.
Also had some texting, about 30 messages from 9:30pm to 11:00pm with notification set to vibrate and ring. No phone calls
So, if you think your battery was bad...this is how mine did

Pretty much my battery did not last even 4 hours. Keep in mind I was browsing Facebook and XDA forums on Opera non-stop. Also noticed when the charge was at 8%, it started draining 1% per minute
My conclusion...I will have to get a spare battery cause a single battery can't handle my every day usage Have tried different Radios, but they all seem the same to me strength and signal wise. I haven't tried any other Custom ROM than KUMARS.
In case I forgot something I'll add it later on.
I also had very bad battery life, i have flashed a few different roms since ive got the phone about a week ago, and id have to say

Pal, how would you compare this rom with Kumar's in terms of Battery life?
My stock rom had slightly more battery life compared to Kumars.
I had terrible battery life with the Cell Evo ROM.
I have had terrible battery life ever since I had my phone. However, I am currently using ChuckyROM with 10.50.19_2 radio and it's actually getting me through the day now.

how long did u expect it to last? large screen, 1 ghz processor and a constant connection online... i bet ur HD2 outlasts ur laptop
thats like saying, i filled up my gas tank before i left home, drove like a maniac, floored the gas pedal after every red light & stop sign but i expect my car to not run out of gas.
real world tests are more acurate... without all that on u should get a full day of "normal" usage...

Stupid question, and this is something that we all as cell phone owner for the past decade should know.. did you train the battery? i get 24 hours out of mine, with contstant push email on 4 diff accounts, texting all day a few pix, a few sites visited

Sure did, the max I can get on normal usage is around 10 hours though.

I do not believe the HD2's battery requires training. Older styles of batteries had something called a "memory effect", where a battery not fully depleted, then fully recharged, created a shortened cycle time.
Newer battery components, IE Lithium Ion, or Lithium Polymer do not have this characteristic. Accordingly, there is absolutely no need to "train" the battery.
Now the only requirement with the newer battery types, is to maintain a charge between 50-70% during long term storage (ie what your phone was charged to when first received).

got my tmous hd2 launch-day... battery sucked so bad I cried (on the inside too). Returned it for another (hard as hell as I had to call corporate and have them call a store and make them hold one when some came in) after 2 weeks and all battery problems gone. 2 days easy with 1 charge. and I am a bit of a media whore: videos, podcasts, web, push, etc.

mine sure did, the first day i got it, it went dead about 6 hours after i charged it..
2 weeks later and it was down to about 60% after a whole days use and it would die during the night if i didnt put it on the charger.
now its been about a month and now it will go a whole day and a whole night and still be in the 40%s in the morning.
I don't see the need to have all that stuff running continously but it seems that the battery lasted as much as it should. I close out all programs propperly when done but I have the screen at the brightest and still the battery lasts me 30 hrs on average. I don't think I could kill the battery in less than 4 even if I tried real hard.
currently using the rom bellow... not getting 10 hours on my phone... my life relies on e-mail. So few calls rarely any texts. But 4 e-mail accounts with each having a send/receive every 5 mins... with downloading the full e-mail. I don't know what to do...
You are correct that Li batteries have no true 'memory' but there is a bit more worth mentioning... Here is a great article on Li battery extension & calibration:

my battery is horrible too, i cant last more than 10 hours without bareley using it. i took it off charge 7:30 a.m. took it to school, around 10 i texted a little bit used the camera to take about 10 shots (no flash), and i played bubble breaker for about 15 minutes. brightness was on 20...keep in mind after i close everything i fully close it through task manager.
around 11 my battery was at 65 percent. and i only USED the phone for about 25-30 minutes of light usage. i honestly dont understand how a battery can be this bad with a phone. the battery is HORRIBLE!!!!!
i got 3 different batterys exchanged so far, none of them work goood. i conditioned it as well... fully charged then fully drained then fully charged again
please help =( i dont even use my HD2 anymore because i HATE the battery, i strictly use my BOLD 9700 until i find a solution to the battery problem
NYC, the biggest issue with the HD2 battery is its low capacity (1230mAh), which is lower than most smartphones in general. Add the huge screen (a big battery draw all by itself) and the other power-hungry functions of a super-capable phone, and it can become very difficult to maintain a charge.
Now, in your case, I'd suspect that you have something that's updating data in the background, at least once if not repeatedly. Twitter, mail, weather, etc are all possible culprits. Even if they only update once in the morning (for example), they flip on your 3G connection which then remains on until you switch it off manually. Bluetooth and wifi also drain the battery quickly, even if they're just "on" and not being actively used by you.

I get from 7:45am to 2:00am pretty regularly out of my phone--push emails, IMs all day, about 200 messages sent/received, 120 min of calls, and probably 2 hours of browsing. I have wifi connected from 6pm-2am.

That is really hard to believe...specially the wifi from 6pm to 2am
My phone drops to 11% after 24 hours of doing nothing with it besides fiddling for about 10 minutes. The signal bar is 3 ~ 4 bars at all times on a 2G band. I'm not certain why it's this crappy even though I pretty much leave it on standby. Any ideas?
Hi guys, I have my omnia 7 for less then a week now and I found it's battery life terrible, the worst performance ever. It drys off in less then a half of day with general use. I fill the battery to 100% over the night and then I wake up in the morning at 5.30am and when I'm back from school sometimes it's allmost empty, sometimes is at about 20% with a usage of About 15 mins of gaming, some browsing/facebook.. few calls and sms and an hour or two of music playback.
I have wifi, bluetooh, push mail, feedback and locations off. Have also been reading on the social.answers microsoft forum about that and there were different tought. I'm wondering how is it with yours.. is it REALLY this bad or it is something wrong with my phone/battery. I don't want to take it back if all are like this as it will be at least one week on service.

mine is on par with any other smartphone ive owned. i can get 24 hours out of it comfortable. thats with about 30 mins calls, 15-20 sms, 30-40 mins gaming, wifi, bluetooth, location & feedback all turned on, windows live & facebook hourly sync & 5 email accounts syncing between every hour & every 2 hours. i have noticed battery life seems to suffer when i use last.fm over HSDPA so maybe its something related to music playback. but even with 3-4 hours of last.fm im still getting 13-14 hours.

mine is running fine.
1. exchange mail
2. google mail
3. facebook sync
4. average 10 minutes surfing
5. 10 minutes game
6. less than 20 sms
7. average 10 minutes voice call
morning 9AM full charged and at least 60% by 8PM
ok thank you guys for reply.. I'm deffinetly taking it back for a replacement on monday.
It could be some app running under the lock screen draining your battery, like a game or Last.fm... other than that, yeah, sounds like a replacement is in order

Nothing running in background. anyway I'll take it back in monday and ask them for a replacement if not, I'll have to wait a week or two to get it back from repair service... trought I hope to get it back till new year.
Maybe consider just buying a new battery?
you should definitely ask for a new battery first, before sending it to service. In the end all is made in China... P.s. My bat. lasts the same as descibed by the others. 1-1,5 day...

giving 390€ with 24 months of contract, using the device for one week and you really think I'm as dumb to buy a new battery as I have 1 year warranty on battery and other accesories ? ... Really ?

my omnia7 leasts longer than my galaxys with data and email sync .. so no problem
Ok I was at my carrier and they said that the phone needs to be send on service (no replacement options) so I'll probobly send it after new year.
But I notice that when I'm at home (I live about 7-8km out of the city) my battery last muuuuuch longer, actually enugh for what I expect - 2h of music, about 2h web and of market browsing (connected to home wifi + mobile data enabled connected on 3g+ full signal) and when I'm in school (city centre) it drys my batery much faster. Today after 3h with 20min of music and 5 min of web browsing it fell on less than 50% and few hours later on -20% and then it turned off. (same if connected to school wifi or just 3g+ also with full signal)... I really don't get it .
And many of my school mates have the same carrier but don't have any of this problem... might it be somekind of carrier transmitor selectnig bug with windows phone 7 or what ?
Things to note - browsing with WiFi requires less power than browsing over 3G - 3G browsing will suck out your battery a lot faster. (The phone will not use your mobile data connection if you're over WiFi) Also, depending on the lighting conditions, your screen auto brightness will probably also have your screen on a lower brightness setting in your house.
That, and I don't really recommened using your phone as your primary Music/Video palyer if you're serious about battery life - that does a good job of sucking your battery too, and you'll ntoice most of the people getting good battery life aren't really using it as their primary media player.
actually I tested it with using at home with same settings (brightnes to low, wifi/3g off/on) and I can see that when I'm in the city centre it sucks the battery in only few hours with data connection on and not connected to wifi so I assume that my operator wich recently updated it's network did something wrong as my school mates have noticed this too but none of them isn't using a smartphone on this network so it isn't so obvius. I temporary solved the problem with turning off data connection when I'm in the centre and turning it on only when I need it and when I'm out of the centre.
I also noticed my battery life sucked when I had the official twitter application installed on it.
Today I left it charging for 8 hours on my laptop and the battery meter barely moved, I removed Twitter and hey presto it started to charge properly.
Back to Beezz and now all is ok

Apps don't run in the background so it is pretty much impossible for twitter to be draining your battery if it is not open.
Maybe it was just a coincidence but as soon as I removed this app my battery started to charge.
Unless it was a one off issue with charging over usb.
my batterylife is the best ive ever had in a smartphone ... i need a custom rom on my galaxy s with android to get close to the batterylife of my omnia 7 ... i am using hsdpa with the same provider on both phones permantly and im syncing emails with them ... even with gaming (sims 3 or nfs underground) the windows phone least longer.

Not at all. There could me a memory leak in the .NET/silverlight runtime - even Microsoft developers make mistakes
Tbh, I have the Twitter app installed also and my battery life is as good as can be expected with a modern smartphone: 1.5 days heavy use (Music, Twitter, Facebook, web browsing & constant SMS/e-mail)
may I ask somebody for a favor ? Under the diagnosis (call ##634#) type *#2*# (battery diagnosis) and please check what does it say on the third screen at the last line "Result". For me it's "Pass/Fail". Might this "fail" mean it's something wrong with the battery ?
PS. after dialing ##634# a shortcut for diagnosis will show up in the apps menu... just delete it if you don't need it.
And to get to the third screen use the big arrow on the top =)
