Internet browsing on wi-fi problems - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi there
Only had it a week (2nd hand from e-bay) and very happy overall just can't seem to browse internet for long without the main memory creeping up to 75 -80% and then having to close down cos of the notification messages. also It says i have 4-5 or even more applications running, when I go to task manager to shut them down there is nothing there?
When it gets too much I go for a soft reset and that knocks the memory back down to 45-50% and off I go again
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Spec is as follows: o2 XDA Exec
running wm5.0
Processor PXA270-520MHz
memory 49.75 MB
expansion slot: In use ( I assume this is the 1gb SD card that's in there that is empty - apart from a few pics of the kids)
Many many anticipated thanks
x

You can do this to clear the cache and get rid of those popups each time it happens, without restarting.
Menu -> Tools -> Options -> Memory -> Delete Files
Then OK out.
Unfortunately there's no way of doing it automagically
You can make Pocket Internet Explorer (PIE) more usable by doing these two things:
Get MultiIE - It's an addon for tabbed browsing and other such goodies.
Get OzVGA - Actually use the VGA screen you paid for! Quadruple your space used for displaying web pages!

thank you for that I tried it yesterday and it worked for a short time. I tried to browse again today but only managed to open google, do 1 search and as I clicked on the page to open it I got the notification messages again. I tried to delete the pages but this time it didn't work. (but as it showed I was running 7 applications and was upto 79% of programme memory) I ended up going for a soft reset.
now it shows 1 application running and 51% memory. am I doing something wrong?

Storage memory is critically low

I'm getting that message.
The funny thing is, I haven't added anything to storage memory in a while. I got the phone a few weeks ago and installed everything I needed then - there was around 6MB remaining of storage.
However, whilst I'm driving today, I get an SMS and have a look and it shows me this critically low warning. I got home and tried to delete all my SMS but the phone decided to crash. After rebooting it didn't load all the today plugins properly, so I decided to reboot using SPB Pocketplus's safemode. I press the safemode option during boot and it says it will boot in safe mode but all it does is reset itself again and start in normal mode.
When it starts in normal mode it shows the critically low warning and freezes - I can't close the warning or do anything about it.
Does anyone know what could have caused this all of a sudden? Considering I had several MB free earlier today and haven't added anything to it myself... Also, what on earth can I do to fix this problem? It says to remove some programs but I can't when the device isn't responding or going into safemode...
Do a search for big files - also check your documents in case you've inadvertently recorded a lot of nothing (as I've done in the past) - also I believe temp internet files and remote desktop caching can take up quite a bit.

At the time it was impossible to search for any files - the device wasn't responding at all once it had booted up. However, I managed to connect it to my PC and access it remotely - even though the device's GUI wasn't responding and I had indeed recorded a load of nothing when it had been woken in my pocket by the SMS. Needless to say that button is now disabled.
Thanks for the reply, it's sorted now. Well, as sorted as you can get with the universal's minescule amount of memory
If you spend a lot of time surfing the net, your cache will fill up the space. Try to flush the cache and search for big files too. You should use SKTOOLS, is the best.
how
Daft question but where is the cache info stored. I can find may way around but I am not that technical. I am having the memory problem too. I have nothing on my device but its full. I have a map program on the card and thats it.
To clear your PIE cache, open PIE go to the menu and selct tools, options and then select the memory tab and click the delete files button. It will probably take a while. A easier way to manage this cache, in my opinion, is to purchase and install SKTools(a fantasic app for many uses) and run the quick clean program. I have the quick clean app mapped to a keyboard combo (using freeware PQZII) so it's very easy to free up memory.

Need help on 8125, Phone Dialer locks

I got my 8125 and have loaded a few programs. Ever since a few days ago I have noticed the phone dial is slow to open when I hit the phone button and almost everytime closing it seems to lock up or hang. I have to wait for it or sometimes it will unfreeze and go to working.
I read where the rom I have is possible a problem or cause. Anyone know about this?
Also is there a free way to unlock the sim/cid to update the rom? I am still looking thru the forums. I will check back soon.
First, you need to read the Wiki to determine if you have a G3 or G4 device.
If you have a G3, then go to this thread to unlock your phone. Then, you can flash any ROM you want.
If you have a G4, then you need to go here and start reading on using the ShellTool to flash your ROM.
As far as the phone freezing, check your Storage Memory. It could be critically low which will result in freezing problems. You might try clearing your internet cache first by opening the brower and tapping Menu > Options > Memory > Delete Files. I've seen others gain over 20mb of storage space just by clearing out their cache. If you have a storage card, you can redirect those internet files to the card by using a registry editor and making the following change in the registry:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Cache = "\Storage Card\cacheie" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
How does you 8125 run? Does it seem to have any lockups with the setup you have?
None whatsoever. I've done just about all the reg tweaks to move stuff off the phone onto the Storage card that can be done. I only have programs installed to the device itself that have to be installed there. Everything else is run from the storage card.
Even with everything I run, I have over 20mb Storage Memory and around 23mb Program Memory left. I do a soft reset every morning when I pull the phone off the charger when I leave for work to regain any "leaked" memory and my 8125 hums right along.
Check here for some screenshots of my current setup.

I agree, soft reset everyday. I though, have everything I use installed to the main memory and still have 18mb and 29mb of each memory free.
The only time I get a temporary freeze is when I shut down WMP.
I did so looking around and I think the problem was the 156 emails I had in my inbox. I believe that might have been causing some issues in slowdowns. I deleted all them and today no lockups at all.

Wing Cant Fly, Or: How I learned to loathe my Wing and am planning to set it on fire.

The number one thing I need to do here is thank the xda dev Herald forum, and a lot of the people who have contributed. I learned a lot of valuable information in the last 48 hours of immersing myself here trying to fix my Wing.
However, I'm at my ropes end, and can't figure out what to do.
I've had my Wing for a 5 weeks. Took some getting used to (had a couple of Dash's before that) but the phone had potential. I had installed a single game (Soduku) and was on my way.
Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. I start getting a message I'm sure you all are familiar with:
*Storage Memory - Your phone is running low on free storage space. Delete old or unused items to create more space.*
Now, after years of using the Dash, getting such a message after only 5 weeks seemed incredible. I went through the cleaned Temp Internet files, MMS messages, and whotnot, to no avail. After about three days it just went away on its own.
This brings us to three days ago. My phone just starts locking up on its own. I go from never having soft reset it before to having to do so almost a dozen times in 2 hours. This is when I start my search online for solutions. I find this place. I start learning about ROMs, RUUs, SPLs, registry tweaks, .cabs, some of this stuff I knew about from my Dash, some of it new.
Two days ago that Storage Memory message came back. Followed by a new one:
*Storage Memory - Storage memory is critically low. If the storage memory is not increased, other programs may not be able to start. Use File Explorer to delete files that are no longer needed or move some files to a storage card. *
I redouble my efforts. Throw Battery Status on there, and DL the files for the Page Pool change. This did not work, as I can't run .cabs or .dll files from my phone. I don't know if this is a PPC specific thing, but that's how I always installed stuff on my Dash; just run the .cab from File Explorer.
However, on this phone, when I try that, I get:
* itsutils.dll - There is no application associated with "itsutils". Run the application first, then open the file from within the application *
Same thing with .cab files.
This brings us to today. I can soft reset the phone and I get a Storage Memory message before the phone even finished loading the home screen. I can't go 90 seconds without getting a Storage Memory message. I deleted the one program I had installed (from the storage card), changed the registry to save Temp Internet Files to the Storage Card, nothing.
My Memory is:
Storage TOTAL 31.44 MB IN USE 31.44 MB FREE 0.0MB
Program TOTAL 47.89 MB IN USE 35.36 MB FREE 12.53 MB
I can no longer do anything useful on this phone. Text messages won't send. Half of my programs don't open. I can receiver calls but not make them. I went into the Remove Programs part of the Settings; that window is blank, and where is says Total storage memory available, its also blank. All T-Mo tech support can do is tell me to hard reset the phone.
I went through and deleted all of my text messages (about 2400 total), with absolutely NO CHANGE in memory. Every time I touch my phone, I get a Storage Memory message, unless one has already popped up on its own. Sometimes they stack on each other, too.
The only thing on this phone are my contacts, and Battery Status.
I'm about at the end of my patience here. My blood pressure has gone up 15 points in the last three days, and I forsee this phone getting very familiar with my 21" ASP followed by some Zippo fluid, in about a day.
Some basic stats:
WM6 Pro
CE OS 5.2.1622 (Build 18128.0.4.4)
ROM 4.26.531.1 WWE
OMAP850 201MHz (clocked to 247)
Model HERA110
IPL 4.26.0002
SPL 4.26.0000
That's all I can think of. I'm going to thank in advance anyone who even reads this, for taking some time out of your day. If you can help me, even better.
Cheers
By what i can read you are probably using a stock rom. considering you are running low on storage space 1st i would recommend use one of the BIGSTORAGE or Light Roms. Most of them have a big storage data and a lower Page Pool and less unnecessary programs. As a Wing user for over a year once i have flashed a custom ROM i have never had a low memory message. Been trying different once and using Open Touch 7.7 now. Not much of Storage Memory but i have a 4Gig memory card so i dont rly need it.
Also its a good practice to use the task manager to shut down programs if u run low on Program memory.
Thats about what i can think of for now.
Believe me, the Wing is a rly good phone.
Edit: Here are some Higher Storage Roms that i have used:
ttran001's Light Roms
ivanmmj's ROMs - 1
ivanmmj's ROMs - 2
Yeah, stock ROM.
I've been trying to DL another, and Hard SPL; every time I do it downloads about 900K and then the DL stops like its complete. But thats a story for another time.
I realized (and cant figure out why) that I can't actually delete any text messages. I delete them, and for whatever reason, I'll have to soft reset the phone, and then they're all back again.
I managed to get into the Remove Programs, and deleted EVERYTHING. Bought myself 2.2MB of Storage memory.
45 mins later, of the phone just sitting on my table, it was gone. Storage Memory is just back at 0.0MB.
I'm about to just hard reset and call it a day.
I'm using "JustMe" Ivan's ROM. A lot software installed. Some softwares in main memory. Because needs install there. But still i have 47,53 MB storage and 15 MB program memory. Thanks Ivan

HELP!!!!!

My storage memory keeps dropping, seems like something is using it up because if I leave it overnight it chews up all my onboard storage memory and it gives me a warning in the morning but when I do a soft reset it all comes back. This happened yesterday so I hard resetted my phone and did a full backup dated March 15th 2009. Now its still using up my onboard storage memory automatically it went through 5 megs now in a matter of 15 mins. Can someone help pls? Do I need to do another hard reset and install each program one by one to see which one is causing this?
1') Are you using a custom ROM?
1'') In order to see which process is using up your storage memory i suggest downloading the SKTools trial and launching the processes util. It displays the CPU time, memory and heap usage...etc. This might give you a hint of whose eating up your storage space.
2) Were you using tools like Advanced Config Tool?

I'm using the stock R1A rom
Yes I have Advanced config Tool but wasn't using the program at the time could this program cause the issue?
The X1 already has a better task manager than the one in settings. If you go to the Windows folder in the file explorer and find the tskmngr.exe, you can view all programs running and processes. No need to download anything. I'd use that to take a look. Installing another program seems like it might just exacerbate the problem.
If you wasn't using the tool before these symptoms first appeared then its not the tool.
Could you go here http://www.s-k-tools.com/index.html?m_downloads.html#sktools and download the trial in order to see the processes that are active on your phone?
I also think there was a free tool called Advanced Task Manager, but I don't remember if it displays the memory usage.

Yes, but unlike the normal task manager he can use the other tools to see which services are started, what programs launch at start up and it has a registry optimizer and a memory cleaner.
And the X1 task manager WON'T show the hidden processes already running on the device.
I think installing one more program won't do more harm than already done.
ok I just installed SKTools v4.4.7.1 how do I find programs that are using up my rom?
1) Use the "CPU Usage" tool to see which processes are actively consuming cpu time. You should have around 18 processes there
2) For those processes that use, say, more than 0.5% use the "Processes" tool to see the amount of memory it consumes.
You could use the other tools to clean the registry, etc while you're at it.
SkTools also has a "Optimize tool" You could select Maximum Memory and see if it still bugs (you can always revert to the default settings if you don't like the performance).

Thx for the help, i've looked at the processes and looked them up on google and nothing out of the norm. I also used to optimize tool and it runs a bit quicker, so far i'm not losing any storage memory but i will find out tomorrow morning. I'll update when I get home from work tomorrow.
I just lost another 7megs from my storage memory and I didnt even download a thing. man this sucks.
This is beginning to bug me as well
Use the Clean! tool. When it finishes analyzing, go and check the files/folders it displays one by one. Do you notice some files or folders that have an abnormally large size? Most should be under 1mb (except maybe the GoogleMaps cache)
If that doesn't reveal a clue...I'm left clueless Maybe hardreset/update your ROM?
Here's an update,
Last night when I installed SKTOOLS I enabled freeUP RAM service and also Shadow cleaner in the shadow services. So again when I went to sleep I had my rom at 107MB's after I deleted a few pictures that came with the rom. This morning when I woke up I had the same pop-up, clicked on the icon at the top right hand corner and it said 0.2MB's then I guess the shawdow cleaner kicked in and my MB's started to change at a very fast pace it went back up to 107MB's within 3 seconds. I will see if it does the same thing when I wake up tomorrow. But that was really weird this morning I have never seen anything like that before.
Did u check as I said with the help of the "Clean!" tool to see if there are junk/temporary files or folders that have an abnormal large size?
My suggestion is disabling the Shadow Cleaner for now, then when you start running low on space again, use the Clean tool to see which temp files are big...that will immediately tell you which program is bugging...
Ok so from catgories I clicked on cleanup then clicked on temp and junk files is that what you want me to go in when all my rom is used up?
I just lost 2 megs
I went into SKtools and it says
Temp folder 2
\Application Data\Volatile
If you do a horizontal scroll in that tool (Clean!) you have a tab where you see the size of the Temp/Junk files and folders. What folder has a big size? Is it the Temp2 (because for me thats the RamDisk)
I have SPB insight installed on my today screen here's a screen shot,
So I think I found the problem, it might be SPB insight... here's a german forum translated into english using google language tools
http://translate.google.ca/translat...data-volatile.html&sl=de&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
He says in a short time he accumulates 30-40 megs...
Damn...
So did uninstalling spb Insight solve your problem?
Like your screen setup btw
I didnt uninstall insight... I just removed it from my today plug in then I went into the program to remove all data and set it only to manual update.
I lost another 2 megs so 4 in total in the last little while, its all IMGxxxx.tmp in my \Application Data\Volatile folder. I'll leave my insight turned off for now to see if I keep losing storage memory.

15 mins to get up and running after soft reset :S

hey first thing i want to say is this phone is amazing and it blows away everything and anything i have had in the past (ok not my 360 though).
but in the last 2 weeks ive noticed whenever i perform a soft reset, mainly because of some program freezing, it takes an enormous time for the phone to recover functionality. i mean, that when i turn the phone on, i see the pink circle appear and then the t-mobile logo, after that the Launching HTC Sense shows and then it takes about 2 mins to completely show the home screen, i.e. clock tabs calender, notification bar and all.
thats all fine, but then when i try to scroll through the home screen tabs at the bottom it jitters and is extremely unresponsive moving after like 30 secs to 3 tabs. its the same with the start button, when i try to scroll down the apps its really slow and does the same jitters and when i select something it just does that 4 colour dots loading thing.
it happens every single time after a soft reset, however if i turn the phone on and leave it aside for around 15 mins then when i try to scroll through tabs or apps it works a treat, like nothing was wrong with it.
please can someone help me, i dont know if its some start up programs causing it or some registry tweak that needs to be applied to correct it. but any help is greatly appreciated and thank you
p.s. i have quite a few apps installed :s i installed resco explorer and through 1 of the apps 'system info', im going to post some of the numbers maybe it might shed some light.
program memory 336.9 MB - used 193.86 Mb (58%)
storage memory 214.7 MB - used 204.99 MB (95%)
storage card 1.8 GB - used 1.78 GB (97%)
here is a list of the things under \Windows\StartUp
BTTrayCE
DelWMPTempFolder
HTCStartUp
PKG
poutlook
RunGNAgent
XMmobiresetter
I suspect its down to having a shiny new toy and access to this "sweetshop" of a forum that's at the heart of the issue here. I too had similar problems earlier today when my storage memory dipped even lower than your's that resulted in pop up messages from windows warning me about critically low ammounts of storage and telling me to remove some installed or redundant files to improve performance..cue bye bye to co-pilot as I dont use it and things have improved considerably.Amongst the stuff I've installed are Tomtom navigator 7, Garmin mobile XT,Igo8.3.4,ACR hd,Totall commander,Resco file explorer, myplayer,Zoomer, skyfire,BsB Tweaks and a slack handfull of games...(all of them installed to the SD card which is now almost at capacity...roll on getting my 16gb card )
These two programs (RunGNAgent, XMmobiresetter) are not in my startup folder, so try to delete them (before deleting backup them), and see if that helps.
first of all thanks to terrytpot and Mikulec.
ill try to uninstall some apps and try an reduce the memory as much as i can and see if i notice an improvement. hopefully that'll work and ill also do the backup of the 2 files and delete them from the startup.
thanks again
P.S. if anyone has anymore ideas that would greatly appreciated. thank you
rungna.exe what is it, explained
well I did some experiments with this rungnagent.exe. witch apeared to be in my startup folder.
I installed sbp-safemode (just in case i would crash the phone (ps im having a samsung i-780).
then i moved the rungna.exe to my storragecard (away from any bootup options)
I shutted my phone down holding the on/off button and restarted it.
instead of waiting 2 minutes for the phone to startup I could scroll trough start, my homescreen and apps (really fast) within 20 seconds, wich was the startup-time when i got the phone .
I made sure that all my apps were still working and guess what they did not have any complications to any backgrounded or foregrounded apps.
I was starting to get very curious about what this app would be.
I loaded the program to my windows 7 desktop-pc and scanned it using filealyzer from savernetworking (the makers of spybot search and destroy).
the file seems to be a .net executable microsoft visual c# v.7.0 . net program with the following funtions in the hex-strings (the commands given to a program on how to funtion) and the behaviour is (in my case):
check the installed files from the program google navigator.
there's also in te hextext that it has to open google navigator trough a link in the windows folder named Google "Navigator.ink"
so when you deïnstall google navigator (in my case I did that because the software was crap). it can't load and run it's intergration with the system at startup and may hook your mobile phone down at that very same startup. the makers of the software just made a mistake in their deïnstall executable because it doesn't remove this specific file. (google navigator is not google maps google navigator is a 3d navigation program using google maps you can find their software on pdafun.net)
so when you deïnstalled the program just put the file somewhere on the phone (just in case) or at least remove it from your startup folder.
So this would mean: Problem solved thread closed XD
ps
my phone stoped freezing when i deleted this startup entry so for some reason it also hooked up the system when you opend more than 5 regular apps. having you to reset the phone all the time. those problems are gone now .
I would suggest that you install spb pocket plus buy it (or bittorent it XD). the software has many handy features with one in specific being very handy. the boot in safemode option.
when your phone crashes 2 times (so you stik your stilus in the resethole 2 times) it comes up with a special bootscreen giving you 2 options boot regular or boot in safe mode.
boot in safe mode means you startup your phone without loading any registry entries or boot commands. you just get a blank screen (no deskapps, tochflow, home shells, etc). with the regular startbutton and all programs and settings. meaning you can fix the phone when it crashed.
fixing means not having to do rom-resets (while worrying about contact backups, messages and all those apps you installed and have to reïnstall from scratch when hardresetting).
good luck with ya pocket personal computer XD.
amonfog
ps: thread still closed XD
