Network based service to access multimedia content converted in real time - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi all,
I'm looking for a program which could make my multimedia files stored on a WinXP PC available on my I-mate K-jam (HTC Wizard) trhough WiFi, resizing video on the go accessing them.
Thx in advance

Have you tried orb or MS Media Encoder.

Orb works through the Internet. I'd like to use my WiFi network only.
Windows Media Encoder let you only stream contents, so it doesn't let you you choose them from the "client" device, you're stuck with the content the server is streaming at that moment.
Yes, I already tried them both before

Have you tired VLC?
There is a VLC port for wm5. See it that will work.

Live encoding to a V5 device

Hi -
I have a security camera which I am streaming on a Windows XP SP2 box using
Windows Media Encoder v9.
I have a recently purchased Sprint ppc-6700 phone running the Windows Mobile
5
platform. It's running Windows Media v10.
I can't seem to view the stream on the PPC. The error I get is "Cannot find
the file. The file might have been moved, renamed, or deleted...."
I tried connecting using the url of mms://123.456.789:8080
I also tried to create an ASX file on a web server and have it point to the
above address
with no success.
Both my encoder and PPC device are on the same net with no firewall issues.
When I use a service such as www.beelinetv.com, I can view all of that stuff
OK
on the PPC device.
I can view the encoder output on another XP machine just fine. I am encoding
using WM9 150k video.
Any ideas ? :?:
Any joy
did you get any joy with this..
im getting exactly the same problem with my m5000
supported codecs ?
maybe you can try other codec, such as mpeg4
how about using software live webcamxp??, with this i can view my how webcam on the ppc screen from http://*.*.*.*:8080/pocketpc etc
Has anyone got a solution to this? I've searched various streaming threads on this forum but can't find an answer.
I'm trying to stream a video using Windows Media Encoder 9 on my Windows XP home SP2 PC to my O2 exec via wifi, but I can't open the file with either WMP or TCMP. With WMP I get the error message "Cannot find the file. The file night have been moved, renamed or deleted...". TCMP gives me a similar "Could not open file" error.
I can open the file stream from my laptop on the same wifi network using WMP, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the streaming. I can connect to the internet via wifi no problem from my Exec. I've tried using both http://<ip address>:<port>/ and mms://<ip address>:<port>/ but with no success. I'm sure there's a simple solution!
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated, particularly if it doesn't involve buying/installing any further software (I'm not bothered whether it plays back full screen or not).
Thanks
I know its a verrrry long shot but.....
Code:
--Universal can't connect to Windows Server 2003--
Cant map to a Windows 2003 Server share? Is it also a Domain Controller? Check the server for
start / programs / administraton tools / Domain Controller Security Policy
Then check Local Policies / Security Options :
Microsoft Network Server: Digitally sign communications (always)
change to disabled
I had to use that fix so i could map drives, i could browse to the shares but it just kept looping on the password dialog.
Is it possible that the same style fix could be done on your streaming machine. after all, you do say another xp machine can do it fine
worth a shot! after all those keys look disabled on my xp machine
Had the same problem. With wme9, wm5 and media player you need to add "/*" at the end ot the url. Hope this helps.
Many thanks for the replies. It was the /* at the end of the url that fixed it. Plus I had to use the internal ip address of the PC rather than the machine name or the external ip address of the router, even though the machine name worked fine for the laptop, and it was the external ip address that was showing in the connections tab of media encoder.
Canot connect Mobile PC to Stream (WM Encoder)
OK, as per others advice I tried to connact my WM 6.1 device to my Streaming Media over bith LAn and InterNet address http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xx:8080 with the /* on the end. This is better than without the /* - actually brings up the Mobile player screen - however then get the following message:
Cannot play the file. The file is either corrupted or the plyer does not support the format you are trying to play.
I can get the stream on my PC's though, bith XP and Vista boxes, just will not work on the WM6.1 handheld - all WiFi.
Any suggestions ?????

Streaming Media Files from your PC to Universal WM5

I found a way to stream my media files and listen and view it o my Pocket PC with windows media encoder.
Download the file and follow the steps.
I just attach a network drive and run mp3 or avi directly from wm10 or tcpmp.
A version of the excellent freeware GSFinder has ben designed for the universal:
http://mkawa.dyndns.org/Soft/GSfinder/GSFinderE/GSFinder-U.exe
It allows easy attachment of network drives.
and from anywhere ?
Good but is there a way to stream a mp3 from a computer if I'm connected to another network ? (not my local network)
For example I'm with some friends, connected with wifi, but not in my home. Then I tell them "hey, have you listened to this song ? Wait a minte, I connect to my computer and I stream it directly on my pocket pc ! "
I would love that kind of feature !
yes, if mark your home PC on your router as a DMZ or open the appropriate ports to the streaming PC. You will also need to know your ASDL/cable IP address.
Note that this is generally inadvisable as it leaves your home network open to attack.
A much easier and better way of doing it is to buy/own 3rd party website storage (i.e. on your ISP). then download the MP3s you wish to share onto this, so they can be played from anywhere on the Internet.

Colonel, thanks for this info, but please could you also tell us how to configure the network drive settings in GSFinder? It asks for "Remote" and "Local Name" settings when you select "Network Connect" - what information needs to go into those boxes? I've tried IP addresses, device names etc but I haven't found the right combination yet.
Mach
Remote name is \\PC name on the network\share drive.
You need to know the 'full computer name' of the PC. (Start --> Control panel --> System --> Computer name)
You then need to make a share drive. Goto the folder/drive you want to share in windows explorer. Right click on the drive and select share and share this folder. You will be asked to enter share name.
Then what you type in remote name on the pocket pc is:
\\pcname\sharename
The local name can be anything you want. It will appear on your pocket pc under windows explorer or gsfinder under a folder called network on the root.
I would suggest you uses windows help or search the internet if you need more info. There is loads around

Hi
Thanks a lot for your input.
I can stream over loacl WIFI quite easily from my Dell PDA. But when i try the same in WM5 on the XDA Exec, it seems to want to connect through the GPRS connection and then it will stream the music. I think its sending data to GRPS and hence charges!!! Why doe it need to do this? If im connected to my WIFI, its should stream without any GPRS connection. Anyone else get this? Thanks

Networking software?

So what are some good software that I can use to connect to a computer a browser the files on the computer, watch the videos on it and listen to the music on it. Like xp/vista and osx does. What about software that lets me connect to some ones WMP or itunes play list? Thank you.
so anyone?
u can use Resco or something similar to access the shared files from ur pc and play them with ur fav media player
anyother options?
You could also use a VNC client on your pocketpc and a VNC server on the PC. Have a look at ptVNC http://www.parystec.demon.co.uk/pt_vnc2.htm. There are other solutions as well, just Google around...
Nothing like what you see on the Tilt or the Vouge?
Is there some way to make a Windows Mobile 5 device show up as a shared drive on a network (connected to it thru WiFi)?
WM6
On WM6 there is a Network plugin for file explorer. you can use it to map to a shares on your windows machines.
It's an HTC app so have a look on the CAB apps area.
It's ace!
Also a Domain Enroll app, I haven't tried yet but I'll get a virtual PC up and give it a shot..

If you could connect to the home computer/server/pc from the mobile and get the (windows) shared files from the PC on the mobile.

Is there some software that enables something like this?
Thanks ..
