Ladies and Gentlemen!
Just receivd my HTC Herald few days ago and I am happy to say :
this device is vey good.
on the PROS side:
battery life is very good - on pair with Excalibur
keyboard is sensational - sprung keyboard.
keyboard is identical to Hermes keyboard but has Exclaibur like rubber feel to it. very sexy!
device plays chimes when hardware keyboard is being slided out/ slided in.
very cool this one. my wife wants this device badly now
overall very well built device. great quality.
D-pad look is similar to HTC TyTN D-Pad but feels completely different! much better this one. better click easier to use. big step forward.
sylus - identical to Trinity. non-telescopic one. very convenient to use.
screen is very bright and clear.
WiFI and BT - can not compain about that one.
on CONS side:
200MHz processor - SKYPE is big NO NO unless processor is overclocked...
multimedia speaker sound is very soft. quite easy to miss on incomming call. did that few time already.
device is not as light as Artemis for an instance. it feels a bit heavier than it should.
I have noticed that this is due to the battery weight mainly.
great form factor! excellent replacement for HTC Wizard.
I hope when they come with the next version for the TyTn it is with the sprung keyboard with chimes
Regards
where did you purchase the herald?
im interested in getting one.
Sorry. I am afraid that HTC P4350 is not commercially available yet.
P.S. after almost full week of having Herald in operation I have eventually realised that great keyboard and D-Pad makes this phone exceptional for me.
I wouldn't touch Hermes any more. what a difference!

I'm with you on that one SecureGSM... I too have a P4350 (although an older firmware than yours), and think it's a keeper.
Size is great, dpad is great and keyboard is pretty good (not quite as good as Hermes IMHO, primarily due to location of button for left soft key).
I love the spring out keyboard action, but wish it was a bit lighter (why so heavy?) and wish it looked a bit more special and a bit less industrial
P
Cheers, Modaco!
It is the battery that makes this device feels heavy! I have realised that when I removed the battery out. Not sure why.. may be HTC has to use new designed battery in conformance with new European standards and regulations? battery is definetely heavier than normal would be. I guess this is the question to technical gurus. I am not one of those, sorry

In Germany it costs "only" 120 dollars less than the Tytn, but especially with a data flat I would not want to miss 3G and HSDPA anymore. The problems with the low speaker sound and low A2DP stereo quality leaves a lot of HTC customers angry. Too bad the Herald does not improve on this yet. Looking forward to the O2 Flame now, even if Quanta produces it...
Skype on HTC Herald (Dopod C800)
Dear all,
Have anyone actually tried skype on HTC Herald ?
I need to double confirm that HTC Herald is not able to
handle skype properly, so I will have to go for HTC Hermes instead. Basically I love every review on the Herald
except on the problem with skype.
Pls advise.
Thanks.
Hi,
I am also planning to order the Herald.
Great device in my opinion. The only disavantage is indeed the processor.
But if you overclock the processor to 240mhz, skype will work, i guess.
The HTC 9100 has the same processor and some people already reported skype succesfully working after overclocking tot 240 Mhz.
Am i correct ?
regards,
Dieter.
Can you tell me if the Herald has a low Wi-fi reception, like the Hermes? Thank you.
Hi Frankie_R,
you mean that the Hermes actually weak WIFI issue ?
will that affect the voice quality when using SKYPE ?
Hi ddv,
I have a review in local newspaper that the device is working properly on Skype without overclocking.
Not sure how true.
Unless the new 200MHz Processor is very efficient, I
seriously doubt it can handle skype with acceptable
voice quality even at 240Mhz overclocking.
Of couse, I wouls prefer to wait for actual
experience feedback.
At the mean time, I can still wait for the
ETEN M700 to come out.
Thanks for reading

If the signal isn't too weak (but the Hermes has a low reception, so you must be not too far away from the source) Skype will work without any problem.

Hi
Has anybody migrated from the XdaIIs, to the Wizard? is it worth it, or would it mean downgrading to something inferior?
I'm thinking about replacing my blue Angel by the Wizard, but i'm not sure if it's worth it.
Any views very very welcome!
Cheers
I migrate forom Dell X50v and Nokia 6630 on Qtek 9100. Nice! I wondeful!!!

huh?
i'd rather have a wizard than a blue angel.. but i guess if you had a BA then it might not be that much different to justify the upgrade... maybe if the phone was free or cheap.
Wizard is smaller, compacter, keyboard is loads better, but the wizard is a lot slower
thanks - very helpful.
The wizard on TMobile UK is free on Web'n'walk 200, so that's fine.
Do you use avantgo or pocket informant on your wizard? Is it a problem with the slower processor speed?
I've just gone from a Blue Angel to a Wizard. Wizard is much better
Its a lot more reliable, feels much smaller and the keyboard is outstanding compared to the BA.
Just my opinion.

Me too. Double ditto that..

I'm not sure where the lots slower comes from, because I find mine just as fast as my Mini, and the Mini has a faster processor than the IIs.
That is unless you install that crap at hard reset. I didn't, and have a clean device
On my device I have:
* TCPMP
* Total Commander
* PHM Regedit and PPC Plus
* SPB GPRS and Pocket Plus
* Opera Mini (MIDlet one)
* MS Stock Scramble (MS Games Pack)
* Monopoly
* Macromedia Flash ActiveX
* AvantGo 5.7
* Skype 1.2 Beta
* Agile Messenger (the free one)
* AE Uptime
* PocketRAR
I have all this installed on the internal ROM with 12.5Mb free.
I came from a PDA2k and think the Wizard is a much better device. As already stated it's seems to be a more reliable device. Much better keyboard. One handed browsing in landscape (with keyboard open) is also good. I don't really notice is being much slower, but maybe that's just me.
BA to wizard
was always very happy with teh BA (qtek 9090) except the way you have to soft reset every now and then (bless), the battery falls out whenever it wants to (less forgiveable) and the person on the other end of the phone can't hear you.
Oh, and it's like carrying a small brick, and I never use the slide out keyboard.
Do any Wizard users notice an improvement on any of these fronts, and does Tomtom 5 work ok (I assume it has a smaller screen than BA).
Many thanks
Hi pounana
Yes, all of those problems with the blue angel you note are fixed in the wizard, plus the bluetooth is light years better. ano conflicts wit wi fi either. as for tomtom, I am running 5.1 that I transferred form the supplied SD card to a mini SD that fits the wizard. Beyond the Tech on this forum has a Wizard blog with detailed install instructions. I was lucky though, as mine loaded and installed automatically no probs..
As for sceen, yes it is smaller, but very serviceable !
Hope that helps

Same here...so far very good!!!
double double ditto supersized
This is what I wanted from a phone: something phone sized, that also had a good camera and usable PIM/comms functionality.
I considered the universal, but it's too big (like the BA is) so I'd not carry it everywhere. Consequently, as a phone, it failed...
The Wizard is the right formfactor for my phone... I like it.
Why should we not let jasjar get involved?
It got 2 camera's video conferencing, bigger and twistable screen, yeah yeah yeah.,
I wished i had a wizzard to, but i will not sell my BlueAngel to get one,
for only a better keyboard, and somewhat better camera
Maybe in the future i will get one, but i think their to expensive to buy right now,

Well the reason may well be expalianed by your signature block...
I see you have a highly customised configuration that you probably spent hours (if not weeks and months like I did  ) to get it to a state where you had decent functionality that was fairly stable.
Now take the wizard out of the box, charge the battery, switch it on and you have it right away, only better!!
Now I realise that I can never get all those "ROM cooking" hours back and some of it was really quite fun (in a masochistic kind of way  ) but now it just works and I can get on with life!
Whatever floats your boat though... although I think us wizard owners are secretly starting to miss cooking our own ROMS already!!

Hello to all..
I am a newbie here and I really dont know anything about these pocketPC's..All i want to say is, I am crazy about mobiles and I hav my own mobile forum too for the Nokia. Currently I own a 6600 and 6630. I only use the Nokia S60. But this time, I wanna try out a PPC..I Really dont anything about PPC's..I will hav to learn from here..
I am really getting confused which one to buy..I want help frm you professionals..Shall i go for the Wizard or Blueangel??
I found dat wizard has 3 advantages over the BA
1)Camera
2)Keyboard
3)Weight and Looks
The only disadvantage of the wizard is the
1)processor speed
2)64MB RAM..whereas the blueangel has 128MB RAM
So we can say that the major disadvantage of the KJAM over the PDA2k is the speed of the phone and opening of applications..
Please let me know about the other advantages and disadvantages of the wizard over the blueangel.
Also tell me about the sound quality and volume of the wizard..Is it 3D sound and loud ??
I like the wizard..It looks good too..But the only thing disappointing me is the processor..It has a 200mhz processor which is kinda slow as compared to the BA..The BA has 400 mhz processor..So do you ppl think the speed really differs?? And please let me know which one u all prefer me buying??
Thank you..
Please help me in choosing the best one..and tell me the CONS and PROS of both over each other
I am currently running a ba with wm5 on it and really like it, but am thinking of getting a wizard too but for the edge technology. The processor worried me too until I did some reading. The TI Omap 850 is a dual core type processor, which should show no real speed diff from the 400mhz that is in the ba.

Really thanks for replying..I think ill go for the K-jam.
I had a blue angel, a magician and now the Wizard.
I like the wizard very much.
Blue Angel:
Pros: quick, big screen, internal wifi (crap reception)
Cons: bulky, not comfortable in the pocket, heavy, keyboard not comfortable for lot's of typing - after a while I reverted back to the virtual keyboard, bluetooth worked TERRIBLE !!!! - lot's of noise and static - tried 3 different BA devices and 5 different BT headsets - all carp. No bluetooth voice dialing - major disadvantage. Not stable all the time, had to reset from time to time which irritated me. Terrible camera (!)
Magician:
Pros: lighter then the BA, size was reasonable, quick as the BA
Cons: no keyboard, small screen, bluetooth still crap, no BT voice dialing, no WM5, No wifi, bad camera, no so great handsfree speakerphone
Wizard:
Pros: acceptable size, great keyboard, wifi on board (802.11G - reception signal strength could be better - since i am comparing thr reception to the sandisk wifi card that i had for my magician), quad band, better camera, WM5, bluetooth FINALLY works as it should have all along which is GREAT !!!, very stable, practical and nice, good speakerphone, great sound!
Cons: I'm not sure if it's really that slower than the BA or Magician... however I'm disappointed by the CPU speed rating. Due to the mechanical design - all of the carrying cases in the market so far are a compromise - not great to say the least. Bad stylus concept, design and implementation.
So which one is the best so far?
The wizard. without a doubt.
Go for it.
Any advice from Universal owners would be welcome. I need an unlocked tri or quad band phone and I am ready to buy now. I see that Hermes has 2.0 mp camera which I read is a big improvement. I am not that interested in keyboards and have heard that hermes predecessor (magician?) had problems...so I am concerned about having a slide out keyboard that I do not need which might cause problems in future. The hermes has upgraded blue tooth and usb if I am not mistaken as well as EDGE? Universal has SD while hermes has mini sd.
Any suggestions from Universal owners if I should get my Unlocked Universal now or if I should wait for Hermes???
thanks
scott

If you're not interested in keyboards, the Universal really shouldn't be a choice because it has the biggest keyboard of all HTC devices.
You say that you're ready to buy now, you can start with the Universal. If you don't like it, you could always sell it and get a Hermes when they come out. That's what I would do.
I understand that Keyboard is not on your priority list. However do consider the VGA screen on the uniersal. It is really the best screen I have ever seen. As I do a lot of net browsing a smaller QVGA screen is somewhat a deterrent for me.

thanks
Thanks all for advice. I have stage fright in making my purchase decision!! I am ready to buy now, but am now concerned that the Universal is already outdated....BUT the hermes wont be available as unlocked for some time....(you can probably understand how my last pocket pc was a phillips nino!!....I keep waiting for the best, and by the time it is available...there is a new best right around the corner!)
From your experience, is the universal a good machine? Will I have huge problems out of the box? Will I need ROM upgrade for it to work?? I am not a super techy guy (don't understand much about modifying these machines and am frankly afraid that I might mess it up) and this machine will need to last me for at least 5 years....I am not one to purchase the latest model each year....
Will I really miss all of the new additions present in the Hermes model?? such as 2.0 mp camera (reviews have said the 1.3 mp cam sucks), and all of the newer email capabilities edge? utms? Or do you think for a regular user that I won't miss them??
Some things that I want for sure:
Blue tooth STEREO phone and mp3 headset combo (so I can keep this brick stored in my bag and make and receive calls without it clipped to my belt all the time....and listen to mp3s in stereo....is this possible?
Voice commands from bluetooth headset...possible?
If there was an unlocked model similar to hermes available now without keypad...I would consider....but only thing I have seen is eten g500 with integrated gps...looks cool but only 1.3 mp camera and no wifi....so I do not see anything else available on market that is better than universal
thanks for any advice/experience you can offer

what about prophet?
I have been reading about prophet...as a possible alternative to universal......I am worried that 200 mhz processor might be too slow for skype...one review said it was really slow.....but then another review said it was as fast as universal... has anyone used universal with voip or skype ...does it work ok??
Thanks for any comments.... is there a huge benefit to having universal's umts and 3G (most of my time is in america).....or would the prophet's (or Hermes) EDGE be seen by current universal owners as a big plus..and a better choice today...?
thanks again for the advice

Scott, currently 3G and UTMS, none of that stuff is avaliable here in the US. So if you spend a majority of your time here, it probably won't do you any good. EDGE will, but like I said it will only make a real noticable difference if you tether with a laptop and use it as a modem.
The 200mhz processor in the Prophet and Wizard series is a nice processor. For day to day usage, you probably won't even know that it's 200mhz. For Skype (If you use that feature a lot), I would steer away from the OMAP processor. I know some people say this and say that, in reality, it's really not a fast processer when coming down to run memory hogging big programs. The one thing I REALLY REALLY liked about the OMAP processor is how long those phones lasted on one charge. I can really use my Wizard all freak'n day and it would laugh at me. My Universal...that's a different story.
hi all looking at getting a trinity 3600 because i need stanalone gps, pda and a phone that takes my 3 sim card. just wondering b4 i take the plunge is there another phone that will meet my requirements that anybody thinks is better than the 3600 cheers
Other devices...
Well, the HTC Advantage can do all the same things, plus it has a VGA screen, but is a much more bulky device. The only other device I'm aware of that does all that the Trinity does is the Nokia N95. The Nokia has the advantage of a 5MP camera (only 2mp on the Trinity), but it doesn't run pocket PC (it's Symbian I think).
Other than that, I'm not aware of any others. The Trinity is a very good device, you'd be hard pushed to beat it!
Lee
but Advantage i read can only be used as a phone using a headset
it dont have a mic or something
polaris the upcomming replacement for Artemis but it's not out yet
another option could be Kaiser is another option if one is not bothered by the extre thickness the keyboard adds or even pref a keyboard
thanks for your replies the n95 i think you have to pay for the gps service I dont think it has a built in sirfstar 3 chipset or any alike so i would not go for that but i will have a look at the kaiser cheers
Yes, N95 runs Symbian, but no touchscreen. I've tried it a few days ago - much slower than my N73.
Other options
As of now the Trinity is one of the best PDA'a around.
Other phones that you can consider are the Asus P535/525 series and the Eten M700.
These phones have all the feature the Trinity has and then some more. Like all phones, the Trinity also has its fair share of problems.
I was about to buy the Trinity but holding out for the Kaiser, it has all the feature that I want in a phone.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Cheers,
Hiren
i'll wait for polaris or nike myself
dont want a slideout keyboard
polaris looks really good just took a look out in october ultra thin aswell says 3.5 in screen does that make the phone bigger than the mda 3 compact and is it defo 3g because it was the mda i wanted but only 2g
hi...
is there a better phone/pda? interesting question....
If you are using it mostly like a phone I wouldnt go for the trinity because of two issues:
* I need a quite strong GSM signal to get acceptable sound quality. People I call often complain about the quality of my voice when compared to a 'normal' phone. Maybe is my device, people in this forum say, but I tried some proposed remedies without success.
* Screen is nearly invisible outdoors on a sunny day
If you are using mostly PDA features, the trinity may be an interesting option. The rest of features work really well, specially GPS.
Beware a new (pricey) trinity version is to be released soon (or maybe already). Hopefully they solve these issues plus the paint peeling off thing. Then it would be the perfect phone.
Depends on what you value!
If you need the phone for business, don't get a PDA phone coz the reception is NOT 100% reliable...
What do you need the PDA for?
All in all, it might be better to get a TomTom GO, then a cheap phone with bluetooth that can connect to TomTom!
But as previously said, D810X is meant to be coming out, no idea when and how much though.
D810x is out in Australia as the HTC p3600i.
i think dell axim x51 is very good for gaming but it dont have a camera!
Polaris looks its gonna be great! I remember reading it only has 400mhz cpu :S
Hi all.
I have a HTC Athena for daily use and others for developing and testing (Tynt, s200, p3300 and Universal) and I ve the posibility to get a cheap kaiser. My question (not easy)is..
"...Should I replace my Athena with kaiser??"
Athena strong points against kaiser.
1) SCREEN SCREEN SCREEN
2) a better Keyboard?
Athena weak points agains kaiser
1) Worst gps
2) very bulky.
3) My headsets makes me crazy many times.
4) touchflo?
I would like to listen other thoughts about it....
Thanks¡
I actually have both but am considering selling the Athena as it proved to be just a bit too big for my daily use... I just need to be able to put it into a pocket (even if it bulges out) every once in a while - something I couldn't do with the Athena, especially not in the leather 'case'. And I'm not a big fan of the 'quick-draw-western-style' holsters for the belt...
I've had the Kaiser only for a very few days and have found a few bugs, but they are not deal-breaking for me... and I'm enjoying the form-factor...
Functionality-wise I think they are very similar... apart from the VGA-resolution screen on the Athena.
Thanks Marcoma.
Apart of form-factor, do you appreciate more improvements in kaiser not present in athena (speed, phone speed, battery live, etc, etc).?
I think I would miss the vga screen too much
Dani
Well - the speed does seem a bit faster, but then again it is only driving a 320 x 240 resolution... I am able to watch movies again which is really nice (have to use an adapter for the headphones though since it doesn't have that nice 3.5" plug like the Athena) and I benchmark around 145 - 170% in Coreplayer.
Remember the actual CPU is slower than the Athena (520 - 620MHz if I remember correctly).
I don't find the phone a lot faster, but I didn't use the phone itself that often... the battery lasts about as long as I got out of the Athena... depending on the usage 1 - 2 days. if you watch movies, use GPS etc. it's a day - no more
What is very nice is the application that comes bundles where one just takes a picture of a business-card and it OCR's the picture and puts it right into contact - pretty darn accurate and way cool (and for me actually useful).
Overall, i feel it's like the Athena, just in a smaller package...
I had a HTC Advantage X7500. I returned that to mobileplanet for a full refund $1100. Now I own a HTC Kaiser TyTN II $750. I would call Kaiser the best available in its size group.
I disliked a few things in the HTC Advantage X7500. High Price, Battery not highly upgradable, Size, Weight, Portability,
When HTC Advantage X7500 prices drop I will go back for it. I love the fact that you can upgrade its microdrive and it supports miniSDHC. HTC Athena is a good device for modding.
I have seen a lot of people who are in the Kaiser community who are no more in the Athena community.

better keyboard? not tried kaiser but prefer Universals.
Well, finally got a kaiser.
1) Screen is qvga, logically
2) GPS is much much better.
3) Fits in my pocket.
4) Keyboard is good but Athena's one is better.
5) I can forget my headset if not necesary

I am happy with It but I wouldnt pay 650€ for a kaiser if I already ve an Athena....

speed? The Athena has clearly the faster processor and running the same OS (assuming WM6) why should Kaister be faster?
Im in a similar boat, T-mobile upgrade is due, using a hermes, considering the Athena, but feel the Kasier is what I need. I really love reading all the athena stuff, and feel its a great device but on a daily basis ill just go crazy. Found an old diary which is about the same dimensions of the Athena, and kept carrying it everywhere to imagine what it would be like using the athena. Anyways I am gonna pop into a T-mobile shop and see what deals are available on both and then decide. Its more like Loving this hot babe, but knowing you cant live with her... LoL..
if you are more of a talker then a smaller phone is for you
personally i am much more of a internet browser, video streamer etc so the Athena blows away anything for me at the moment.
Its more like a mini laptop that can make phone calls than a true phone which suits me just fine but is not for everyone
Spacecat I echo your point. I'm also more an internet browsing person, although I also watch movies a lot with its big screen. So for me the big screen, although bigger size, is the biggest advantage of Athena. I don't care about hardware keyboard as Tengo is working so well for me, especially on big screen.
After using real VGA at 128 dpi, I just can't imagine using QVGA. Its simply no longer acceptable anymore. A small VGA screen does not go well with realVGA even at 128 dpi( this is assuming that you do come across a smaller VGA enabled device)
Bottom line: BIG VGA screen is the single most important consideration for me. It's not the storage space or keyboard, especially when you can get 8GB microSDHC card.
Thank you spacecat and eaglesteve, for your inputs, I am gonna think this one out a bit more, but it always feels very re-assuring to hear first hand experiences.
I am a 8525 user and i will upgrade soon
but i'm not sure with one i'll choose
I have read lots of reviews of the athena, one thing I haven't found, is it possible to use it as a phone ( speak with it, with out a speaker phone or a bluetooth)
just placing it against my head and speak
and no vibration ... ? how do you get your mail or sms during a meeting ?
is it possible to put it in your pocket ... for exemple in a pocket of a jacket coat or a jeans ?
thank you
The phone works out of the box as a 'speaker phone'. If you plug in a pair of earphones you get privacy for the incoming side of the conversation and the mike will still work. This makes it similar to a regular phone. If you have a 3.5 plug headset that will work also as will bluetooth headsets.
I doubt this device would ever get in a jeans pocket unless you have a large cargo pocket on the outside of the leg. I have been using such pairs of pants and it is satisfactory but I think a pouch attached to your belt is the best way to go.
Brad
I do hold it against my face.

This is not an issue for me. I simply go to sound setting and change the announcement for new sms and mail to a soft beep. I can always hear it but others don't really notice it. Or if they do, no one has said anything. You can do the same for incoming call before going into a meeting, just change the ringtone to a soft beep.
I do use the phone without bluetooth and hold it against my face. Does'nt bother me a bit. However, when using voip, I use a wired headset otherwise there will be echo at the other end as the other guy's voice coming out of the speaker feed into the microphone.
I use a diy belt pouch to carry it around without keyboard, and it's not big at all.
I also prefare X7500, althogh have just ordered Keiser fir m wife. The screen is most important. When in the car there is no comparison to any other device. I use it hardly as a phone, but also as data/info storage, mailing, internert and as access pont for my laptop, when on the move.
I always use my Jabra stereo headset and keep it on a belt. This way I do not have to bother to get it out when the call rings. People usualy do not know wheather I am on the pohone or am talking to them. This is the only problem. Jabra aso works great when on voip.
same doubts. I'm on the 3 pieces bandwagon. A tablet (IBM X60) which is the main office, a very slim/small/cheap cell (LG KG320) and a WM hardware. Until few days ago I use a HTC TyTN and went to HKG looking for an Athena. Find only the old Dopod version and get disapointed with the white looking and price. So, got a Kaiser. Very good machine, no questions. BUT, when I want to work light the Kaiser is not enough to show products to a client. The screen is just to small for a more professional use. On the other hand is too expensive and bulky for a constant use as a cell (which I carry even for jogging). I think that if you choose the 3 pieces approach for a mobile work the Athena is probably the best. I had a look on the UMPCs and find many nice and even well priced. Problem? Vista. Who wants a mobile hardware with slow boot and all the problems Vista related (plus anemic processors) and a battery that does not last a full work day? I will try to get an Athena from USA where the prices are more reasonable.
Hello. I've been following the Kaiser thread ever since I heard about it, and with the same anxiety of the owners of that phone i've been waiting for the miraculous drivers to appear. I'm looking forward to upgrade from a HP hx2750, to a new pda with phone. After a few research I concluded that the pdas the fit my need are the HTC p3600 (trinity), p3600i (500Mhz processor version) , the Tytn 2 Kaiser or the coming Eten X800 and the I-mate 8502 which in my option is the best off all those but I doubt it will be available sooner than April 2008.
From all those the p3600i and tytn 2 seemed more appealing. So I have to pick between the p3600i (since i'd rather have more ROM and processor speed though paying a bit more) or the kaiser, tytn 2.
I like to play videos, take pictures and once in awhile play a few games, but also have a decent scrolling and browsing speed since I'm used to the hx2750 wm6, BUT, i'm not sure if the drivers will ever be made or work properly... in other words I wouldn't like to have a crippled phone as expensive as that kaiser(not getting contract!). The p3600i looks great is not so buggy but doesn't have keyboard and this is something I always missed in the hx2750. Neither I know if the keyboard in the end is really that useful cause it looks very hard to type in...
I heard better things from htc in past times but now they don't seem to care for consumers opinion, so that's another question. I dunno if it's better to get the kaiser and wait for drivers or get something more solid. I heard new windows 6.1 will come out soon, so might be a help or push to fix problem. I prefer more the kaiser but the p3600i is impressive too...
So i'm here asking for whoever wants to share its opinion... What's the best buy p3600i or tytn2 (kaiser, tilt)?
Is htc giving up the kaiser for real?(no more drivers, no more production of that model? And does the p3600i as any issue too?
P.S:I really refer to the p3600i not the updated p3600(trinity)
Heavy s**t
My penn'orth:
The TyTyn 2 is SOOOOO heavy and bulky. although the 3MP camera is nice, the keyboard is not really that useful as it's fiddly to use and the bulky size and weight for me do not justify the tilt / keyboard.
For it's size I'd say go with the 3600i.
It may be useful in terms of getting responses - to specify which driver issue you are talking about - I'm not sure myself!
I would like to add that you should keep in mind that the P3600i is still relatively new and that if you plan to immediately flash the ROM to your favourite cooked TouchFlo variety you will be unable to do so for a while so you'll have to stick with the original stuff for now. Apart from that I would say that a big part of your decision-making considerations would be the hardware keyboard and how important having one means to you - to be honest I hardly use them. Additionally, I HATE to feel the looseness/play created by the moving parts, and I like a solid phone with only buttons - no flips, slides or twists. Another consideration is battery life - not sure exactly how they compare, but I have a feeling there is not much difference between the two (keeping in mind that the P3600i has a faster processor than the Kaiser). I am not sure how the cameras compare either, but the Kaiser should indeed produce better results, though I will say that the P3600/P3600i's photos are not that bad either. Another factor, presumably, is the cost. I am about to buy a P3600i today and it's running me USD$599 - the TyTN II is USD$750. For me it's the P3600i, but of course, the choice is yours. You have to look at all the differences between the two phones (read as many reviews as you can) and the environment you will be using the phone in and the type of usage you will demand from it to fine-tune and make the best decision for yourself.
I had to make the same decision and ended up with the p3600. For two reasons:
1st: The P3600 comes with almost the same functionality, like wifi, gps, hsdpa/umts and so on - but is cheaper and smaller. Besides that the P3600 has no performanceproblems with applications or videoplayback.
2nd: I dont do any SMS-texting, neither do I write any e-mails from the phone. So the keyboard wasnt too important to me. Since there are some nice programs for fingerfriendly onscreen keyboards, I can type small texts without any difficulty and quite fast.
You definitely get more for your money with the p3600 ... which is useless if you need to write 20 emails a day on your phone ...
The drivers issue I made reference to (Htc tytn 2) problem is the fact it has a video performance worst than earlier models, it's slow and paused when scrolling, can't play games with proper frame rates. This is blamed in the lack video drivers... the tytn 2 or kaiser thread is filled with users seeking a solution to that.
The p3600i is a beautiful device but I don't know till when the 64MB memory will be a issue, and the kaiser offers 128Mb...
I don't really mind not having a cooked rom as long as the new one isn't that bad or buggy. About the touchflo I don't know really what is and how useful is but I suppose is something like finger scrolling... don't think is useful in such small screens... ^^
My hx2750 screen is almost as big as the p3600! I compared them side by side!
Does anyone knows if any htc device will be updated to wm6.1?
Thanks for all opinions...
