Navizon on Universal - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Rigt, have downloaded navizon as it seems like a great program. But I can't seem to get the wifi discovery mode to work.
It finds cell towers perfectly, but I know there are two or 3 wifi points, one of which I am using now, and it jut doesn't pick them up!!
Is it a problem with the firmware I am running, can anyone who has got it to work let me know how they did it. My area is unmapped and I know I could earn a few $$$ by mapping all thw wifi points.

Cheers

Anyone?? I wanna earn some $$$

Anyone tried even using it on their JasJar, I would be interested to know if it works for you !>

GPS Software

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for a couple of things. I have the HTC-Kaiser (AT&T Tilt) running WM Pro 6.1.
I'm looking for GPS software that will allow me to track my wife's cell phone. She has a Treo 650 and get's lost often in the city, and I can't very well talk her in unless she has vivid details. If I had software that I could track her by, I could then tell her how to get places. We can't afford a stand-alone GPS system for vehicle at this time.
I'm also looking for GPS navigation software compatible with my Tilt.
If this can be done in one program, GREAT! But if not, I will be glad to get each of them.
If there are any FREE one's that I can try before I buy, that would be appreciated as well.
Thanks a whole bunch!
tracking software

this is a gps software where you can see where your wife is. You can set up a buddy list and you can track your buddies at any time.
If you do use it, do me a favor and use my referral code.

I have been using this for about a month to track wifi points and so far seems nice.

Thanks,
I just downloaded it and used your referral code for you. But it keeps saying that The Google Maps API key used on this website was registered for a different website, and that I can generate a new key. I'm not sure what I need to do at this point.
Any ideas?
install problems
I did not have that problem. I had google maps installed when I installed this. Try installing goolge maps as well, or contact Navizon support. Ihad one question for them and they got back to me very quickly, that was on a Saturday, not sure if they work on Sunday.

I also have the Google Maps. And I also have a Google Account. For the API key, it's asking me to enter the URL that I will be using. The Navizon just installed to my phone. The Wi-Fi and Phone indicators light up on the page, but the GPS button is grayed out. Does that mean my GPS on my Tilt isn't compatable?
gps working
I am running it on a Hermes. I have an external receiver. With my configuration the wifi light turns on when I start navizon, but the gps does not connect until I click the start button from the dashboard. Try that and see if it is the same on yours.

I hit start, and it searched for Bluetooth devices. It found my earpeace and that was it. GPS radio button still grayed out. I downloaded the Lite version, which should still work per the site.
sorry, no help here
Sorry but since my reciever is external, that is all I know how to use. I know that there are other threads here for Navizon, try searching them and see if they can help

Problems with picking up Sat's. Please help!!

Ive tried tomtom, nav4all and Igo and cant get any of them to pick up a satellite. They will all find my location or pretty close to though
Im using htc touch vogue, sprint with wm 6.1
I can get between 5 and 7 sat's using google maps, windows live search and sprint nav in about 10 seconds.
i have my phone set for comm4 and 4800 baud. under the "external gps icon". theres none for internal.
Igo has any auto detect and it just sits at "scanning communication ports" and automatically goes to port 9.... i set the ports myself in igo, try to find the gps and it still goes to port 9.
Anyone have any idea why i cant get any of the good gps programs to pick up a sat?
should i flash the rom again and start from scratch?
I also have iguidance as a primer..not to sure if its working. i click the icon and nothing happens.
Thanks in advance for any help!!!
I use GPS Launcher and TomTom with absolutely no problems with your exact settings. I actually didn't change anything in the config on the PPC or in the TomTom app itself. Left everything on default settings.
Without the Primer installed and running first, it never seemed to work.
Your GPS seems to be working if you are getting Live and Google to run it...Don't think you should really need to re-install the ROM update.
Did you run your free 15day of Sprint Nav. Is that working like a champ?
Thanks for the reply
Sprint nav works perferctly...I would use it but im not paying the money they want. I would rather buy a puck..
Im using the primer. i click on it but nothing happens. not to sure if anything is supposed to launch though.. Pretty much new at all this.
Cant figure it out.... Everyone else that using this phone i read has the nav working. I dont know what else to do but to try and reload wm 6.1 and start from scratch.. dont really have anything special on my phone but #'s
One quick thought...
Should I unlock my phone???
Also, I have GPS launcher and that fails to detect as well...
at the "Qucik GPS can speed up the time for determining you gps satellite position via internet connection (such as gprs, activesync, etc.." i try to download and it fails right away. . After the 6.1 upgrade i cant connect to the internet with the data cable connected and i have no idea how to use my phone as a modem.

I definitely wasn't suggesting to buy the Sprint Nav. That's just silly...
Download the QVGA-Black Repack3, and the GPS Launcher.
This is currently configured to Prime the GPS and Launch TomTom; both of which are located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2439623&postcount=34
and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1862619&postcount=1
You shouldn't have any problems with these two.
L8R
OK....unlocked the phone. updated rom with OJ's custom..
Tried to install tomtom now my maps are screwed. its not asking me for the code to unlock. Anyone know where i can get maps for Mass to try?
Installed igo, of course it failed to pick up the sat.. but it will pick up my location and will give me a simulation of the route i have to take....sat is still crossed out!
No issues with live or google maps picking up my location
I dont f'n get it...Do i have the same phone eveyone else is using with these programs? Are people using a gps receiver ie;puck for this to work?
it says my phone is vogu100 under identity..

HTC Touch Vogue and GPS

Hello, just need something things cleared up, I have unlocked my phone by cooking custom rom and enabling GPS capabilities for this phone. I have spent a week or so learning how to mod different things like SPB, S2U2, icontacts, etc.... I traveled to Montreal from Toronto using the GPS pay services, $8 a month, which is reasonable, but I was wondering if it possible to use the GPS capabilities for free. I know when you go buy a GPS unit, you dont have to pay for the service, only if you want to update your maps. Is there some registry hack or software that will enable this for free. Please let me know and point me in the right direction if possible, thanks everyone.
gps free with unlimited date plan
if you have an unlimited data plan ,(im with telus),like if you wanto get internet ,tv or anything else. your gps connection gona be free. for the htc touch vogue with the news telus rom its so easy to get gps working with a simple modification with Qpst and a registry hack.

Original poster was asking whether it was free to acquire GPS through satellite rather than through a data connection.
I have an Elf so I don't know the answer, but the Vogue has a GPS chip in it so I'm assuming it can communicate with satellites. If you have the newer ROMs then it should have GPS enabled in the operating system.

did you know that your phone doesnt communicate with satellite gps but its making a triangular equation with his cellular satellite. I'm working on getting a gps lock without having any contract. And getting a free internet connection at the same time if youre able to get a gps lock you have internet acces because they came from the same source.
Thanks
Hey guys thanks alot for your replies, I think I have a better grasp on what you all are saying. So, I have enabled the GPS capabilities on my phone through the ROM. Now I have a icon in programs menu that says GPSNav. When I go to that application it gives me 2 options, 3.50 a day and 8.00 a month. From what I understand GPS on these phones are done through a data connection meaning the internet, not through locking onto an actual satellite like those dedicated GPS devices. I do have an unlimited data plan right now. So, is it because I'm running this particular program that I have to pay? Or is there another program I can either use through one time purchase or I can find on the net somewhere that I can install and get GPS for free through using my unlimited data plan (triangulation). If there is an app out there, whats the name? Thank again!

Hmm... I thought the GPS capability of these newer phones was equivalent to the functionality of using separate Bluetooth GPS receiver. Thus no need to buy the receiver anymore.
Correct me if I am wrong, because this was one of my reasons for wanting to buy a Touch Diamond or the Touch 3G.
gps without any plan
i dont know for the touch diamond or the touch 3g because the telus interface is cdma not gsm. but if you want to get an gps connection without being charged for it. its shure that if you have to open an app that charged you for using the gps its because first- that you've not flash a custom rom or simply with the new htc rom wm6.1 you can just modify your Qpst and with a little registry hack you can get a fully free of charged gps using. but you will need to install a gps sorftware that already have all the map in it. or if you have and unlimited data plan get google map and youll never be charged for using the gps chipset enabled.
For now I've almost get a gps lock with my HTC libra without any plan at all, its seeking for satellite but not able to lock on 1. im trying to get a pass trough the cellular tower to get a data unlimited to for free with cloning and some little other hack. ill see if its working.
gps and internet working without any plan.... to much
the gps connection working with a 8 second locking time and 10 gps satellite locking on. with the new rom wm6.1 from telus i've found that there is many thing that make it so funny and easy to hack and make everything working. now i've found how to make the internet connection working.
google maps working
9-10 gps satellites lock on
8 second delay for locking satellite
satellite view working because of the internet hack ..... so hot
internet
download bitrate of 1200 kbps
Now the question is how long all this will stay working.
all of this working because off all the time i've put on this. reading and trying modification in registry, modification in the epst with ##778 and the getspc, changing values in qpst for enabling the gps chipset and dont forgot to change your spc if you dont want telus to get in and see what you have done in it. the key to get all off this working will stay secret for a week minimum because ill see if after a week everything will stay alive maybe ill tell somebody who will pay for it. but after making the impossible-possible the secret key to that is.....lol

I'm not fully understanding what you're saying. But... to help others out you are making them pay for it? On this site?
My initial point about the GPS chip was not to imply CDMA or GSM. It should have nothing to do with either. I'm talking about direct satellite tracking (like with a bluetooth receiver) not tracking through cellular network. Maybe someone else can enlighten us on this.
im not telling to ask other to pay for my help but for the key to acces the network without any data plan and get full free access to gps. about your idea to get an outside gps connect with your device, for me its an crazy idea because youre gona pay for a gps device that is already in your htc device and that you can get full use of it without being charged for it.
the way i've found to connect to the network is pretty easy after all but that take me so much hours to found this hack that im not gona give it to a nobody(french term)
when youre talking about direct satellite its your choice but about me im not working on that because ive no interest in that.
Now next step is to get a free access to the cellular tower and get access to make phone call without having a plan with a company

My Elfin doesn't have a GPS device built in. that is why I have to use Bluetooth to connect to my separate GPS receiver. That is what most people do.
2nd day off free internet access
day 2, the internet connection still alive.
-I think that yesterday about 3hrs after i got access they try to deconnect me . Because i've been deconnected and they send me and msg that ive not permission to acces the network. but after soft-reset everything get back on and nothing else apen after that everything going good.
-Now can somebody now if its possible to make a roundup connections with cell tower. is it possible to activate the option of making the request activation after the connection begin like the 10 min registry hack activation delay for the btpan in dcd rom
sorry for my poor english im from Quebec, Canada.
mabe if something possible I'll be interested in develloping and creating a kind off ghost phone project with the help off every one who know something about that
thanks
I have an Elfin myself, so I don't know how the Vogue works...
But from what I've read, the Vogue has a built-in GPS chip. This is not to be confused with aGPS (Assisted GPS), which uses the cell towers to triangulate your position; it's not as accurate as true GPS but it gives you a good idea. I'm not sure if aGPS costs you money, I would assume it does as it needs to use the internet (Google maps uses an aGPS style positioning).
Where as true GPS uses a chip to pick up on the 24 GPS satellites or so, orbiting the earth right now. The chip is designed to get a satellite lock, and the satellites help triangulate your position to a more accurate position. Well, more satellites/cell towers = better accuracy. Therfore consider 24 satellites, or 3 or 4 cell towers. Obviously true GPS works better.
So from what I understand, you just unlock the GPS (which I believe is true GPS), then I would download Garmin XT for windows mobile and use that. You will have to download or buy the map sets, load those onto an SD card in your phone. Then you can use Garmin XT (with pre-installed maps), combined with the internal GPS chip - it should work just fine, and will not use the internet.
I have been using Garmin XT on my Elfin, with a bluetooth GPS and it works great. I have never used a data plan either.
Now, I just wonder what chip the Vogue is using for it's GPS - it must be some kind of SiRF chip... Maybe someone can tell us, then we will know the exact type of GPS it uses.
Try out Garmin XT and let us know.
hey guys..
i have an HTC Vogue..
i was wondering..

Wifi is flakey at some APs

I have installed and uninstalled a number of firmware/mod combinations on my xv6800 in hopes to get the GPS working. I don't believe that's going to happen (saddly, I feel like there's a conspiracy out there to trick peeps like me into spending weeks on this problem without any positive outcome) so I'm currently focusing on what DOES work with this device.
One thing that's flakey is the wifi. At home I'm running WEP128. It connects sometimes, others it will not. When it does not automatically connect but sees it, it asks for the key each time. What's the deal with that? Entering my long a$$ key each time has made me memorize it, but it's still a serious PITA. I don't have the same issue at most other places - still using WEP128. Doesn't appear to have any issues connecting to open APs. Does have issues connecting to a friend's AP, i that it doesn't even SEE it as available any more, after the initial 3-4 connects.
Thoughts on why this could be happening? Not having the GPS makes me very angry, but then to not have reliable wifi practially makes the device pointless, as I have another phone, my own PED and an actual good camera... and a laptop.
thanks for any helpful thoughts.

I have the verizon Titan and just use mac filtering on my wireless router. The encryption slows it down to much for me and basically need the same encryption scheme on both sides to get it to work properly. I don't do anything that it needs to be encrypted and the mac filtering keeps the neighbors out as well.

I think of doing that often... but well... I don't have a but. WEP is hackable, but feels secure enough , considering I have a bunch of secure APs in my neighborhood... some obscurity helps as well.
I know that sometimes if I restart my AP (linksys wrt54g) the xv6800 will just find it and connect on it's own.

There is absolutely no reason why gps should not work on your device. In fact in this forum we really don't even discuss it too much anymore because it's really just an understood thing to be working. If you are on verizon use the latest alltel radio 3.42.xx I can't remember exactly, load dcd's 3.2.6 or 3.3.4 and start from there. Wifi on these roms have power saving features make sure if you are using wifi that you have strength up to full. Also, all the moguls that I have had, DO NOT COUNT ON THEM AUTOMATICALLY FINDING ACCESS POINTS, simply go to start->settings->connections "view all available access points" and select the one you want to use. I have heard cases of gps having trouble locking if wifi is on so make sure the switch is off and vise versa. Do the verizon qpst and registry settings change. On verizon you should have a lock within 30 seconds everytime if you are within the continental US. Good luck and take your time.

I have 3.42.something new within the last two months. My first attempt was with the DCD. Nada.
As for finding available access points, at my friend's place, it just shows it listed as unavailable. At home, it will SEE it and even attempt to connect, but often fails, except for those random times when it will connect.

Hm... will it maintain the lock with the wifi turned back on afterward? The whole point is to be able to use gmaps with the GPS. I can install other s/w that has it's own maps as well, bypassing the need for the wifi, but for starters, getting GPS working first is important.
It's a verizon phone, but I don't have service turned on yet. I'm not going to switch my number over until I'm happy with how it's set up. I do not intend on using a data plan - too expensive, so wifi when in range and other gps s/w when I'm not will be used.
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I have taken some serious time with this. The nice thing is that I don't have to rush, so I've tried MANY different things from the forums and even the PPCgeeks IRC channel. If I practice any more patience, I'll be sleeping.

That phonenews article was VERY helpful in getting me started, but:
It is ancient. Those old roms have problem. Use the newest DCD roms and radios found here. (thanks DCD and everyone)
ALSO, on the GPS.
If you EVER, EVER, installed the new Verizon MR1 upgrade, the GPS is locked. No worky no more..... But, simply find the older Verizon rom, it can be found. Downgrade to it and run it. Then go straight to the DCD rom/radio.

I did try the MR1 upgrade based aGPS hack, but I then realized that aGPS only matters if you've got a working GPS at all. Anyway, I then downgraded again and started over from scratch. I got my phone in September and did my series of hacks/upgrades/unlocks over the course of two weeks or nightly tries and retries. It's nice to hear someone say it WILL work, but Murphy's Law is working overtime with me on this one.
It is my understanding that if you don't have internet access than gps will not just not work on mogul. The gps one chip I believe is strictly an AGPS chip and cannot lock without using agps. However I guess some people have done it and use it, although even if you get it to work the lock will take forever. The mogul really needs that emphemeris data from the north american gps servers to function correctly. I didn't realize these were your terms.

I've never seen it written anywhere that one would be required to have a data connection with the service provider to get a GPS lock. Seems ridiculous to me. If I wanted to pay for a data connection, then why the heck not just pay for the VZ Navigator access??
I've never seen aGPS as a requirement either. If all the tuts were about aGPS, I'd see that having that data connection was important. Boy, I sure could use a definitive on this. If I KNOW for fact that GPS just doesn't work without a data connection, I'd have to suck it up and get an external bluetooth GPS device if I care enough. I have believed however all along that the whole point was to access GPS hardware without incurring data charges.
thanks,

I did try the MR1 upgrade based aGPS hack, but I then realized that aGPS only matters if you've got a working GPS at all. Anyway, I then downgraded again and started over from scratch. I got my phone in September and did my series of hacks/upgrades/unlocks over the course of two weeks or nightly tries and retries. It's nice to hear someone say it WILL work, but Murphy's Law is working overtime with me on this one.

Also, not trying to undermind you, but why did you aquire the mogul if you weren't planning on using internet access? I mean you loose live search, google maps, pic and video messaging, skyfire, ie, youtube, and pretty much everything that makes a mogul a mogul. If you bought it for the soul purpose of using as a gps device you definitely bought the wrong device.

TOTALLY reasonable question.
I will use the phone when I have it set how I like it.
I got it so I could have a reasonably convenient way to freely check my email and surf when in wifi range without needing to lug my laptop around with me. I got a good price on it, much cheaper than an actual laptop.
Nice sized screen for when I want to actually watch a ripped movie or TV show and the option to install other software on a whim to have with me is just great. I got a ppc that can be a phone essentially. I'm not a phone person, too cheap to pay for a text plan, but wifi is key. The ability to open this phone up for GPS use was a major factor in picking it from lots of research before diving in.

gps wont find anything

so I bought a htc hd2 using it to type this, however gps wont lock (and kb Really is bad lol) im on o2
any ideas..
Re gps won't find anything
Hi,
A couple of questions. What software are you using? (like Google Maps). You say you can't get a lock, are you able to access any satellite? Have you selected Google Maps Use GPS Option. Have you enabled QuickGPS (Start/Tools/QuickGPS). There is a setting there to let you download Satellite data using your PC connection during Activesync which might help you if you have data issues.
Now, silly question, are you indoors or outdoors when you are trying to get a fix?. Im not always able to get a satellite fix from my living room).
Regards.

sorry took so long to reply (keyboard really has issues ... or maybe i have the issues and just cant use it) so i came to pc to reply.
i was indoors at the time (trying to show my gf how great my phone is and shes with her iphone getting a gps location in seconds) so i was indoors , i have tried outside however and it dont seem to work, i had the same (and still do) with my xda ignito and just give up on it , but this is a new phone and i just want to be able to sit in my house and go oooh phone says im here haha.
i used quickgps however that has not helped
LOL, knowing that you couldn't get it working on your other phone might have helped in your original posting . Have you talked to O2?
gps does not care about the carrier...
BTW: What the iphone does (and your phone can do too) is the self positining using the google api. that works over the cellular network, using a table of positions where the antennas are lokated and not gps!
GPS indoors is not possible with a antenna like the HD2 or the Iphone has, aslong as you live in a "normal house" and not in some weird mobile home ect...
If it cant get a fix using google maps or tomtom outside of your house within 2minutes of not moving somewhere on the street, or the gps tuner did not even find one satellite, think of hard-resetting your phone and then try again.
if you sill can find anything your antenna might be broken so you need to return your phone to warrenty and get a new one, or yours fixed!

Intereseting, I've never actually seen a phone using nagigation software without data services from a carrier. I must live a really sheltered life. Good luck.
Usually, every GPS phone has trouble locking from inside houses, with the exception of when you are standing next to a window sometimes. My HD2 however locks in seconds when outside.
I would suggest running QuickGPS (or something along those lines) from Start->Tools, it updates the locations of the satellites so the GPS takes less to locate them when locking.
All the best,
shpatar.

what are you talking about? tomtom, garmin etc. never use the carrier to get a fixed gps position. thats why you call it gps, because it uses it and gps is not run by any phone carrier but by the us. forces... so you dont need any dataservice or even simcard to get your gps position with your gps-enabled phone...

Are you using igo8? I know i had to manually set the correct com port (COM4) within igo settings before it would work.
Also you can manually set it in google maps. Try setting it to COM4 baud rate of 4800
The carrier locating in my area is useless when i am inside my house. Says i am like a mile away in the middle of a field! lol.

As others have replied- the iPhone uses a different method of getting your position, as its GPS receiver is pretty poor (which is why TomTom needs its own GPS receiver in a dedicated cradle to work properly )
The HD2 has the best GPS receiver I've yet seen in a mobile device- no longer than 1 minute even from cold start in most cases- and I've used it in UK, Italy and Slovenia in the last 6 weeks. However, if you are indoors it will struggle.
Which software are you using to try and get a fix? Maybe it isn't initiating the GPS correctly.
The Ignito is also pretty good, so maybe you are in a 'dead' area? Have you tried in a different location?

i said what network i was on to imply what rom i was on (was first day with hd2 and i was typing using it .. and i wanted to make it as small as possible - hate the kb lol)
and my gf iphone does actually pick up gps in the house , mine doesnt tho.
i got a signal once since i started this when outside after about 20 mins.
i understand what you mean with regards to cell network etc and obviously that works fine .. however gps seems to not like me
