Hey everyone, I just got my 8525 and have been playing around with a few customizations. One of the things that bugs me about the original button layout is that the placement of the camera button makes it nearly impossible to use the camera with only one hand (at least I always feel like I'm going to drop the phone).
So, I got the PTT patch (thanks Slueth255!) to map the camera to that button. However, it looks like any function can only be mapped to one button at a time, so the original button has to be remapped first. It works great in portrait mode, but in landscape, either the button is on the bottom of the phone or the display is upside-down. Is there a way to map two buttons to the same function? Or better yet, is there any way to rotate the camera display? Has anyone else found a better way to use the camera one-handed?
Thanks,
Sar

Trying to work out at what stage your problem is. I turn on TyTn with thumb, move thumb along to camera button and then take picture with central D Pad button.

Thanks for the tip about using the center D-pad button to take a picture, it makes things a little easier. I realized after trying to take a pic that switching the camera function to the PTT button won't work. It will activate the camera program as expected, but once in camera mode, you still have to push the original camera button (or D-pad) to take a shot.
After some more playing around, I found that you can take a pic with the scroll wheel button as well, which makes it easier, but not perfect. You still have to reach for the camera button to switch to camera mode and the scroll wheel is not good for taking pictures as it will change camera modes with a scroll if your press is not dead center.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to take out the phone and snap a quick spur-of-the-moment picture without too much fumbling around. Typically, I hold the phone in my left hand with my index finger near the power button and thumb near the PTT button. Or, in landscape mode, index finger on the PTT button and thumb about halfway between camera and comm button (with the D-pad resting in the palm). Moving all the camera button functionality to the PTT button would really be great. Getting the camera program to run inverted would also be nice, but I could probably learn to live with having all my pics turn out upside-down.

Yes, I see. I just tried it left handed and it is more difficult due to button positions. I also agree about scroll wheel push you have to be spot on with press else you end scrolling to another function.
Hopefully others will have some more tips/tricks.
For some reason if i want to push the camera button to activate the camera,it wont allow it.Well it does nothing. But if i goto the camera application itself, then it works when pressed. The keys are not locked on the side either.Anyone have anysuggestions or advice on what the problem maybe?

make sure you push hard on the camera button, there is two steps to it, make sure you press it all the way through
Yeah bit tricky and supprising, i thought i'll found 2 steps button for camera only on my digicam, but my athena have it to... great isn't it?
I have to push my camera button really firmly before it opens the camera.
You may have already done this but check the mapping for the button. Voice Command likes to take this button for itself.
got it!
Hey thanks! That worked!I thought that it was just me.The buttons were mapped correctly(meaning that they were not re-mapped)A firm press brings the camera up after a 1 second delay. The only thing that i was wondering, why was there no ms voice command included?I have the application(Since i kept all the applications that i had when i owned the JJ).Like i said, thank you for the quick response time and help!
Hi All
I've been looking in to locking down an Athena and taking control / disabling all the hardware buttons. I can disable most of them in Start->Settings->Buttons. The ones I am having particular trouble with are the OK and Windows buttons to the left of the screen. I have trawled the registry and am yet to come up any answers on how to do this. Does anyone know where the registry keys may exist to do this?
Cheers

I'm curious why you would want to take away such a useful things away. Currently I use all the hardware button and wish there are more available. I use it for things such as changing SIP, rotate screen, start IGO, and control myp3 (such as volume up, volume down, next song, previous song, blank out screen, bring up the playlist, pause, unpause. This is while the device remains inside my belt pouch). The ok button is extremely useful in doing things such as hiding the phone application after use. Similarly if you're using program such as VITO fun contact, you could hide it after use without having to exit this extremely memory tiny application and able to instantly access your contact again anytime. Why would you want to disable all these useful features?
AEBPlus free version will disable all buttons

But I agree, unless you're developing an app that comandeers the buttons, why reduce functionality? You can lock the buttons while the unit is off. ???
I have a MAPL100 and downscrolling on the trackball has stopped working. It works sometimes, but usually it takes me 4 or 5 flicks to get it to scroll once.
That said, is there a way to remap one of the keys in the bottom right (Camera button, mail button, and inner circle key) to perform as a downscroll? Like a virtual directional pad.
Or remap a volume key?
More thoughts: the inner circle key can be customized via settings to launch a program. Is there a program that does nothing except send a scroll down signal?
Likely not. How hard is it to make one? I've hardly programmed for WM but I know .NET well so if you have any pointers towards such a program I would much appreciate them.
Thanks
Bumping this. I can't scroll down OR left!
Hi, why don't you try to flash a 3VOLUTION SERIES ROM, they have a button configuration functionally which gives you the option to configurate for long press and short press several buttons, otherwise you could try by installing SmartToolKit or AEB Plus button configurator, however in my experience these apps don't work well with stock roms as they can't seem to register the key remapping; unless of course the issue was with the sd certificates, now I couldn't tell as I'm already on the latest 3VOLUTION SERIES ROM.
Hi, is there any way to replace roles of those 2 navigation keys?
I have problem with screen sensitivity on bottom right part so want to have back key left (back is muck more used and this part of screen is perfectly responsible)
This will help me a lot, I have no solution to fix this or to replace phone...
I don't know if there's a mod to exchange the functions of those 2 soft keys. What i know is you can install an on-screen navigation bar to have back, home, and recent apps buttons. It will work only on Lollipop touchwiz:
